One, defiant plays an issue ALOT in this fight. Remove defiant from the game and then it would be a different fight all together.

Two, it’s not the AOE that does damage, its Mai. Try and stand in the AOE while you have aggro and are unable to move out because she will. Her attacks do a lot of damage. Not complaining about that, but again, if defiant wasn’t there then it wouldn’t be a problem.

I’m pretty sure defiant was there since most of my knockbacks and CC’s did nothing. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think I am

It’s my understanding this fight goes,

- Kite her into the electric shots/aoe
- Repeat until the shield debuff is gone
- Attack her
- do this 4 times (25% each)

It’s not the general idea that I see a problem with but with how aggro works in GW2.
It’s that hectic that I really can’t see why this idea was actually made.
In my opinion, instead of fighting against the boss, you’re fighting against the GW2 engine to try and magically get her to follow someone.
Now, I’ve managed to kill her but it took much longer than it should of compared to say if a classic style of aggro was implemented into the game.
I think it was a mistake to rely on kiting a boss when kiting and aggro do not really go hand in hand.

Good job on the 1st boss however. Finally seeing scripted bosses is a step in the right direction to bringing players like myself back.

how hard is it to add the things that have passed to FotM or design some way that new players can experience it? not that kittene would assume. I’m all for an evolving world, WoW has done it fine, through dungeons and lore. It’s been a year and the dragons have done NOTHING to the world. All we have is stupid filler content to allure the more casual players while alienating the much more serious crowd.

I fail to see how its ANet’s problem or a problem with GW2 if you (or anyone) flocks to dulfy.net to get achievements done ASAP without trying or doing anything for yourself.

That’s really not the point I’m trying to make. I’ve played since beta, the point I’m making is the current content isn’t even worth bothering with imo. Since F+F the only decent content was the MWF. I want to play GW2, but it’s like Anet don’t want to even bother anymore.

This is what it has come down to.

Fluff content that is all smoke and mirrors and doesn’t show off Anet’s potential.

Give us actual re playable content and maybe a lot of us on hiatus will return with friends. Right now even the updates aren’t enough to bring me back, the only reason I come on is because of the “temporary content” achievements which are also temporary.

I’ve seen countless people now in dragon ball using food buffs that give regen. Because of the low health you have and amount it heals for they are virtually invincible.

I’m half way through my 2nd legendary and It just makes me sick seeing the garbage pumped out of the living story machine.

Temporary content is NOT the way to go. It’s basically making all of your effort and work put into that content only being seen by the people who were playing at the time.

If someone took a break and came back a month or two later. There would still be no content and nothing will have changed bar a few textures and models.

It’s pathetic, and saddening that Anet will just ignore this thread because of their “all knowing innovation”.

Thankfully due to the schedule of our release, our team was staffed with some of the fastest iterative folks from the company to get something good out in a short time.

I think you might be over emphasising the word good. I think embarrassing is a more appropriate word.

Quality>Quantity, Ironically the majority of the time neither of these are met.

If all the future updates are going to be continuing to focus their attention on “e-sports” and dead on arrival “living story” then I’m genuinely counting the days till I can jump ship to wildstar.

It’s been a year and the only reasonable content we have seen is FotM, SaB, and MWF. The last of the two are now gone from the game.

I really don’t understand the design decision to drop the focus from permanent content while your “innovative temporary content” receives all of the attention from you but only caters to the people who log in once every month to see it. It’s like you actually only want people to play your game when you add new things rather than play it daily because there are lots of things to do.

TL:DR you’re delusional if you think this living story is worth your efforts every month. Take your lumps, it’s not working.

I’m glad people like my idea! I have a notebook full of stuff like this that I do in my free time.

The general idea is that, in my experience, dolyak’s are only killed if they are there, they don’t really seem to be hunted down as a big part of WvW.

Following them on the same route around the map is kind of boring and gets old fast. At least with making them siege, the possibility is there to make them actual targets in world vs world since they actually have fire power to take down patrols etc.

I hadn’t really thought about making the Dolyak player controlled. It’s an interesting thought. Potentially sacrificing getting supplies to keeps to aid attacks etc.

Something that could also be cool is their ability to carry supplies. Maybe a player controlled dolyak could have the same skills but also carry supplies essentially giving more tools for creating siege and getting supplies to where they are needed.

Hey, I figured since we don’t currently have much lined up in terms of dungeon content, I would have a go at designing a new concept revamp of Sorrows Embrace that includes tweaked bosses and hopefully some new ones. I wanted to have some cool throwbacks to forgotten lore about the stone summit dwarves.

This is a WIP for a design portfolio I’m working on but I wanted to collaborate with the dungeon community and hopefully get some cool feedback and criticism.

Sorrows Embrace Hard Mode – Fully Explorable

Lore

Sorrows embrace was originally inhabited by the stone summit dwarves as their main base of operation although currently it is filled with Dredge and Inquest.

The dungeon is centred around an Inquest Necromancer who has ties with Tazza.

With Tazza’s absence the Inquest Necromancer has risen to rule over and enslave the dredge currently inhabiting Sorrows Embrace.

Under the Inquest Necromancer’s ruling he has ordered all the dredge on an endeavour to recover all of the stone summit relics they can. Aside from corpses of the fallen stone summit, they unearth an ancient dwarven tome that allegedly sheds light on forgotten methods used to raise the dead (minion master throwback) as well as control the living. The Inquest Necromancer believes with this knowledge he can enslave the elder dragons.

As more and more Inquest flock to SE to support this cause, the dredge are held under lock and key although some have escaped. The escaped dredge, few may they be, search for help to rescue their brethren. They come upon a Priory patrol who take this new information as a serious threat. The information is passed on to all race figureheads and that’s where the players come in.

With aid from the priory you are to infiltrate Sorrows Embrace, clean out the inquest, recover the tome, set the dredge free and be back in time for tea.

Dungeon Design

The design of this dungeon is supposed to be a throwback to Urgoz’s Warren as well as the original Sorrows Furnace which were completely explorable and not so much linear paths.

The dungeon can be cleared in any order bar a few bosses which require items dropped from previous bosses to advance, for example explosives to blow open a passage or a key to open doors. Refer to the map attachment that shows an idea of the locations of bosses as well as other things.

The dungeon would have a new Stone Summit inspired armour set that is available to purchase by having every boss have a chance at dropping an armour token (head/shoulders/chest/gloves/pants/boots). These tokens would be traded for skins via a vendor inside the dungeon. The drop rate is not super low but should be around one token each run (bear in mind the token type is random). Two random tokens could be thrown into the Mystic Forge along with craft-able components (e.g chest plate + chest liner) to gain the skin you want (chest skin in this example).

Map Explanation

Start – Obviously the entrance to the dungeon

Red- Boss Location

Green – NPC/Poi Location (These would either be NPCs that if you rescue would join your party or points of interest like the explosives mentioned earlier.

Orange – There’s only one of these and this relates to the direction in which you want to begin.

Like I have mentioned there is only one of these.

The concept I have here is that upon entering SE you are greeted with a gigantic Asuran wall like structure that has forcefield entrances which will only allow you to pass through if you have the correct credentials. (There could be space for a mini-game here like the hacking in fallout 3). Moving on, it seems that you cannot enter. Luckily for you, the Priory have been working on a dolyak mounted cannon that has been brought along with the entourage of priory scholars. The only problem is that the cannon only has one charge and you can only blow a hole in one side of the wall. Which side you choose will open up the way (which side doesn’t matter but it adds variety of starting at a different boss).

Thats all I have time to post today folks, this is a WIP and any ideas you have are more than welcome! Lets hear those awesome boss encounters!

I don’t run fractals that often to have a “you’re just being bad at the game” comment.

I do however agree that the design of AoE rings on platforms where you cant see them kind of defeats the point of them being there.

Having to take them on one by one is an artificial difficulty and time sink in itself.

Don’t get me started on the in game vertical FoV as well as camera problems. Those alone make trying to “spot” the balls an even bigger nuisance than they need to be.

Depends on your class really. Different dungeons offer different stat combos.

A must do is:-

-Keep doing your dalies (idiotically laurels are the only way to get ascended accessories).

-Run Fractals of the mist up to level 10 and then keep doing level 10 until you have the ascended rings you want. (max times you will have to run it is 30 inc 1-9)

- Decide what stats you want then run that dungeon. (alternatively craft/buy the set from the TP)

- If you are happy with your outfit then just try and have fun without getting burnt out. If not, save up some gold for Fine Transmutation Stones and customise your look.

IMO Toss Crab minigame isn't fun!

Its like the devs have a raging passion for CC and immobilisation.

Knockdowns aren’t fun.
Not being able to control your toon isn’t fun.
Putting them together and calling it a game isn’t good design thinking imho.

Reverse the game and make it like hot potato, then maybe it could be fun, but right now it’s not.

Just speaking with my guild, a lot of people would pay for this stuff. They have already modelled it so why not put it on the gemstore? It’s illogical to say the least.

The MWF, in PvE terms, is probably the best content we have received since release.

Even with that said, It is only going to be around for 2 weeks!

I think it speaks quite well for the state of dungeons and PvE in this game when content that is designed to be temporary completely dwarfs the content we have which is permanent. It was great to see new mechanics like jumping rather than having a HP sponge that will intermittently throw out some AOE.

Just my opinion but i’d like to hear others experience with the new content.

Since im usually the tear kitten in my dungeon group I’ll give my 2p

People shouldn’t be linking petrified of saying they’re petrified unless you NEED to.

You can see the debuff in the party frames and you can see it blinking. When it starts blinking really fast thats when you want to throw your tear. By the time you actually throw it they should be fully frozen and this way you can minimise downtime from the debuff.

Watching the party frames is key! It’s really not hard.

It’s just a terrible loot system.

Its far more efficient gold wise to run past “extra” bosses, such as kholer, and just do the minimum required to get the tokens and 25s. It also doesn’t help when all you get from bosses right now is around 10-15s and 3 blues. Minimum should be greens imo.

- give more tokens for completing and less silver
- spread more silver between bosses
- give bosses unique drops (unique skins/recipes/chance at a mini of the boss)
- give trash less hp but give more of them (think arah p2 if you decide to not blow up the risen by the crash site)
- dungeon progression (we need a system to increase player skill, get the into arah instead of babby runing CoF)

I have heard that TA and CM are “on the list” of dungeons to be re-worked.

My question is this though, What would you rather have? New scenery with new bosses and lore or Old scenery with the same lore and re-worked bosses?

I’m on the fence about this because on one hand. Most of the dungeons are STALE and nearly every boss comes down to banish/wall of reflection/dps/and the odd dodge. The exception is lupus of course. A new dungeon will freshen things up, but I’m still going to need to run the current dungeons too.

That said FotM was introduced in November (correct me if it was December) and it has been almost 6 months since we saw some real new content to dive into.

I will say this though, the current AC is lackluster at best. Buggy bosses tied with trash with a gorillion knockdowns and CC is not fun, its just irritating. Keeping stability up 100% is a chore that shouldn’t be a requirement to make it acceptable. Maybe a larger QA or beta test sample could be made? (ahem test realm ahem). I know Rob and Will worked hard on re-working AC but maybe they missed the target a little.

Personal opinions aside, I’d like to see what you guys think. Maybe post the bottom 3 dungeons that you run daily too that you think need improving. Best case scenario we get a new dungeon, then a re-worked one, rinse and repeat.

P.S. Just speculation but i’m really hoping the team didn’t flop out on the opportunity to add a new dredge/flame legion dungeon with the final part of flame and frost.

Craft the gear you need then use tokens and the gold you save for Tranny stones and the skins you want.

This coming from someone who got a full AC set before they changed it to give you 60.

Is there a way to change the camera rotation speed to any less of the slider? I want to use my mouse at a higher dpi that 2000 without my camara doing a 900 for every inch my mouse moves.

My group can run up and fwd/fwd in about 23 mins. So I’d say they both have their merits. Only thing that sucks is no loot from the nightmare tree.

We need, damage done, healing done, average dps, downed/deaths, and time taken.

Only then can we start to think about not full speed clearing but fully clearing since it will increase the damage done and also average dps. Healing NEEDS to be taken into account also. Too many times are healing/support roles being given the short straw.

Happened in SE p3, last boss, 50% hp, disconnected, was actually able to get back in and collect my money from the boss but still no tokens. Awesome!

Seriously,

The toad boss is way better than pretty much all of the current bosses out there.

- big enough so they don’t get covered in effects
- subtle ques so you have to watch what the boss is doing
- mess up 3 times and you die
- mechanics that if you ignore you wont kill the boss

Guardian/Warrior are Meta. Ideal dungeon scenario is 2guardian/3warrior (2/3) or 1guardian/3warrior/1mesmer (1/3/1).

Everything else is just filling the gaps needed for players.

Meta PvE (excluding fractals and some Arah bosses):-

- banish target against a surface
- use wall of reflection
- everyone stack
- keep stability and protection up
- dodge red circles
- rinse and repeat

It’s ridiculous how most mechanics can be ignored. People keep shouting nerf when all that needs to happen is decrease the health of bosses and increase the damage done by getting the mechanics wrong.

Current design philosophy seems to be lots of health = difficulty.

As for state of the game stuff, we here at Anet don’t host or coordinate those. I asked our community team about the potential to do it, and they expressed openness to it, but we don’t farm that stuff out – the community has to come to us with the offer I guess. We just kind of show up and answer questions I guess, lol.

Wow, thanks for the response Rob. Hearing that, hopefully the community as a whole can come together to make this happen.

Since I got infracted for my first post about this I assume I’m just not allowed to mention any names this time. (if this is against the “rules” again instead of being given a copy and paste response can I actually get a reply to how I can make this thread viable without it being locked again)

Much like sPvP and GWGuru have their state of the game livestream, Is this something we could possibly work towards doing with the dungeon team?

Not to insult but I feel the amount of discussion about changes and interaction from the team is pretty low apart from the odd post in the stickies.
We all want to be able to help give feedback and also just have a little bit of dedicated time to get some burning questions answered. Waiting a month for the next patch only to find there is no real content makes me not want to continue playing.

Is this something we could maybe set up like a 20 minute stream each month with a few of the team members? I’ve tried PM’s but everyone’s inbox is full.
