People who make an ascended weapon would opt to keep that instead of using their excess karma/badges/dung tokens on just finishing a legendary?

Don’t kid yourself, this idea is terrible and anet would lose a large portion of their playerbase if there was no value to their endgame gear.

There would be absolutely nothing legendary about it if you could get a precursor for 200g, and if it was readily accountbound for all characters.

If they ever implemented an idea to make precursors readily available to everyone, they better compensate by making it require 2x the rest of the mats. I don’t understand why everyone has this casual mentality that everyone is entitled to walking around with multiple legendaries? Where’s the fun of seeing 50 twilights standing around near the bank instead of the 5 or more that we already do?

So basically everyone craft a precursor within the time-gated 2 weeks? And instead of dozens of legendaries in every corner, we see everyone run around with multiple ones?

No thanks. Worst idea I’ve ever heard, no wonder devs don’t take these suggestions seriously.

Just a very honest question. I understand NCsoft’s future game plans are more traditional style, but seems this is their one game which they’ve done everything in their power to cater to casuals and nothing more. Time-gated progression, majority of the skins available to anyone who has a bank account, and not many rewards that are exclusive to the people who put in the time for them (FOTM back piece, or liadri mini for example).

Is this the direction we’re headed? Any cool new skins locked away behind RNG gemstore chests, or new items locked away behind a meta achievement from 2 week updates? Like, I understand all that.. but I’m starting to feel all the money I’ve poured into the gem store isn’t even resulting in any new challenging content even being developed.. there’s literally no content exclusive awards besides FOTM skins and back, otherwise everything else could simply be bought and is available to everyone.

I think ultimately, trying to continually cater to the casual consumer base is going to alienate a lot of players who are growing tired of waiting for some challenging content to come their way for once. And instead of gaining revenue, ultimately it’ll just push away the ones who are currently so involved with the game.

Anyone disagree? Anyone else think there’s no challenging content or exclusive rewards and we’re simply getting fed temporary farming options every 2 weeks?

That seems to be a double standard. Solo’ing lupi isn’t a challenge because it’s just learning a fight, however 8 orb Liadri is/was?

You can learn the 8 orb fight, and still not be able to do it on many classes. Did anyone realistically have an easier time on 8 orb Liadri then on lupi? Solo’ing lupi has become more about how fast someone can do it, not if it can be done.

Why do you even run fractals then, nmoral? You don’t want their skins, you claim ascended rings an fractal skins are stockpiling in your bank, and the loot/money is crap compared to other things to do in the game.

So why do you even run fractals? Or even care? I think you’re just looking for a quick way to make gold by wanting to sell the skins that you already have, which is why so many of us are against changing the skins. If they can be sold on TP, then the value and exclusivity is completely lost.

I’d hardly call Fractals the best/most challenging content in the game…

There’s no challenge in tediously large health pools and increasing amounts of damage.

High level Fractals just take more time, and only slightly more coordination, but most importantly, more time.

What’s more challenging then progressing to level 80 FOTM? Only thing that was tougher was the Liadri 8 orb achievement, otherwise no other content is even remotely challenging. Solo’ing lupi is all about learning the fight, if you consider that ‘challenging’ then I don’t know what to say.

Anyways, point is yes we don’t really have any challenging PVE content, but the closest would be higher FOTM and the rewards are lackluster compared to other aspects of the game.

Actually a different thread about skins sort of sparked this thought. It’s going to be nearly a year since the release of FOTM, and arguably by many it’s currently the best/most challenging endgame content this game currently has. So how come we haven’t seen any added unique rewards or incentives for fractals then?

It’s a bit surprising that every other aspect of the game has seen advancement of some sort (Dungeon loot has gotten buffed, champion loot has gotten buffed, WvW rewards buffed, new sPvP maps and trait changes, living story progression, etc), but one of their most popular content hasn’t received any additional maps/rewards/buffs to loot at all.

FOTM is like currently the only slightly challenging endgame content, and in many peoples’ opinion also the best endgame content we currently have. If anything, they need to add more unique rewards and incentives for people to keep running fractals.

Dungeon loot gets a buff, champion loot gets a buff, and even get rank chests in WvW now. Why are there no new incentives for people to do FOTM?

To the OP: I agree legendaries shouldn’t be sellable, but neither should fractal skins. Giving everyone access to every skin in the game that can simply be bought by gold without putting any effort in = fail

Sadly, opinions are only getting worse as the day progressed. I enjoy a lot of their updates, and hype up a lot of them to guildies right before release. But this update so far has been such a disappointment (especially for marking the 1 year anniversary) to many people, that I’m honestly a bit surprised that there’s not more criticism on the forums regarding this. After an incredible patch with Queen’s Gauntlet, where we finally had some challenging content and a new premise for a gauntlet type permanent content for the future, now we get an update like this.

I know you can’t please everyone, but there were just so many people who absolutely loved the previous patch and had high hopes for this one. Sadly, it’s NOTHING challenging and nothing permanent. It’s a giant zerg fest running around maps and underwhelming living story content.

In a few days a big portion of your playerbase is going to be incredibly bored and go back to doing old content. Don’t get me wrong, I want this game to succeed and I still play many hours every day. But content like this is a huge step in the wrong direction in terms of giving us more endgame content (read: permanent) to play with.

How is one single arena, like 0.001% of the all content, making GW2 less casual?
Don’t like it, don’t do it. There’s plenty of content out there that is fun and easy.

Quoted for truth.

To the OP: Chill out, there’s a million things for you to do ingame that caters to your preferences, just because there’s one piece of small content that is finally difficult, isn’t enough reason for people to cry that the game is becoming less casual.

The biggest fault of GW2 is the fact that nothing in this game is challenging. Even getting to fractals level 80 wasn’t really challenging, it was simply a grindfest. So yes it’s to many of us it’s absolutely refreshing and encouraged to have difficult content once in a while.

I’m not sure the need to be so blatantly selfish and expect every aspect of the game be completely catered for a person.. I’m all for creating as much diverse content as possible so that all sorts of people may experience and have content that they’ll enjoy.

I know everyone has a different perceptions of what is fair and what isn’t, but can we all agree that it’s a step in the right direction to finally introduce some non-faceroll content? I would love things like the camera angles and blinding colors attack to be polished up for everyone, but it was just refreshing for once to have to fail at content continuously and working towards learning the fight completely until it could finally be finished.

I agree with alot of what you guys are saying, but even with some of it’s problems it’s still one of the better content implementations that we’ve had in a while.

Absolute blast, finally having some tougher content in the game and a reward for being able to finish it. Wasn’t at all easy, and I really wish a-net would focus more on content like this. By far one of the best patches we’ve had so far (along with halloween update and the fotm introduction).

Please ignore the naysayers, there’s enough easy content to do in the game, and its not mandatory to have to beat her. Playerbase shouldn’t become so spoiled that it automatically feels like it’s their right to be able to finish tougher content on the first day. It’s day one folks, not everyone should be able to finish it immediately.

Again, I hope the devs are paying attention to the feedback; majority of the people I’ve talked to absolutely LOVE having harder content and a sense of achievement when being able to finish it. What’s the fun in content that awards everyone everything at the start? (everyone has dragon wings back, everyone has SAB skins, there’s no value in seeing these items anymore because they were SO easy to get ahold of). If you want GW2 to thrive, you need more carrots at the end of the stick besides just legendaries, so please do have future options open for more content that is actually tough for once.

There’s alot of uncalled for backlash. The guy made a thread which has many very use-able builds for people to try out and experiment with, and if I were a new necro I’d find this thread to be a great starting point to learn a variety of builds post-patch. He’s even taking the time to answer questions that people are posting, so there’s no reason for others to look to discredit him.

Does he sound slightly arrogant? Yes.
Did he say a few things regarding top necro players, that he probably shouldn’t have? Yes.
Is he sounding like a know it all in certain posts? prolly
But he’s actually taking the time to help in his own way, and instead people are flaming him about his leaderboard rank. Leaderboard rank means nothing except for how good your team is and how often you decide to destroy your rank by doing solo queue. I’ve been in and out of the top 50 and yet I do think he’s quite knowledgeable about the class.

Either way, lighten up and let him help in his own way, rather than continually flaming someone when they’re doing far more to help the necro community than others are. If the way he carries himself in his posts bother you, then why not just leave the thread?

edit: some of these posts about qualifications and such are so silly. Just because at one point I was 26 on pvp leaderboard somehow make me some guru that all should listen to? No, your rank or ‘qualifications’ aren’t a huge deal when you’re trying to help new players with very use-able builds.

The general consensus on the mesmer forums is that this is the worst patch that has affected mesmers since the start of the game.

Personally I’m going to continue trying to make mesmer competitive but its funny how ridiculous it is to make it viable in high end tournament play when you can just be a terror necro instead now

Mesmers have also become far more overpowered than they previously were.

Why would you think so?

More survivable, and the interrupt builds are starting to show, and get very very annoying.

Plus, I’ve been seeing confusion/torment Necro teams. Fears, Stuns, Confusion, Torment. Most terrifying combination ever.

You have no clue what you’re talking about. Interrupt build so far is absolutely terrible since most casts are .75sec or less that it becomes impossible and almost complete RNG to be able to interrupt your targets casts. All for an immobilize and measly interrupt damage. Go take a look at mesmer forums about how everything is completely broken and how much anet hate is going around because no spec is viable competitively anymore besides shatter.

I don’t know why so many people have this class vs class mentality; this isn’t about the thieves arguing with mesmers arguing with rangers etc etc for each to get their profession a step above the others.. this is about all of us (who probably have alts and play each of the other classes) collectively trying to voice our opinion on rational changes instead of a broken change for a broken problem (in this case 1v1 spec phant build).

We all strive for class balance and diverse builds to use that could all be potentially viable. The problem with this change was instead of nerfing the 1v1 phant spec, they nerfed the whole mesmer class as a whole. We all want viable specs for our class, and we collectively agree when something is broken; in this case mesmers will be the first to tell you that the 1v1 phant spec was broken, but the way a-net went about dealing with this completely destroyed the possibility of using other specs. Creating a change that promotes majority of mesmers to be shatter spec, and a small few to be phant spec, and nothing else viable for high end PVP kills build diversity.

Address the specific build when it’s broken, don’t punish the whole class for it.

RIP Phantasm Mesmers

in PvP

Posted by: koolmutt.9827

koolmutt.9827

I don’t think people are understanding why we’re even speaking up about this, everyone can agree they’d hope developers create a variety of balanced builds that could potentially be viable for tournament play, and when a particular build is broken then nerfs and buffs are warranted. But the only reason mesmers are speaking up is because this change had nothing to do with creating build diversity or making less popular specs more viable or useable. All they basically did was a blanket nerf on all mesmers without other options to compensate. (a new interrupt build? it’s going to be abandoned after 5 days once people realize how stupid those changes were)

in PvP

Sinnoda: If this was just about randoms using any build they experimented with and adapting to class changes for hotjoin or random play, then sure you can be happy with this new version of mesmer.

But that’s not the issue. The issue is any viable tournament spec mesmer build HAS to take 25 points in illusions for this trait, or else are crippling themselves and teams realizing people with random ‘adapted’ specs are a handicap to their team.. and effectively replacing the meta with a different class and pushing mesmers out altogether from high end competitive play.

As posted, yes ofcourse people aren’t forced to trait this and do whatever they’d like, but part of the problem for competitive PVP has been the lack of diverse and viable builds for different classes, and soon more mesmers will realize if they want to be ‘good’ or do well in high end tPVP, they have no other option except to make sure they’re now a shatter spec.

RIP Phantasm Mesmers

^ Which is my point. I don’t care for phantasm specs specifically nor do I care that we can try to adjust points around to get a somewhat decent phantasm build. The whole point is this patch is basically forcing 25 points in illusions for a spec to be somewhat viable. Which is ironic because the whole point of this patch was to promote diversity and unused trait lines for all classes

RIP Phantasm Mesmers

in PvP

Posted by: koolmutt.9827

Also, your first build is somewhat more viable, but almost any experienced mesmer knows that the compounding 3% damage per illusion trait is bugged, and doesn’t effect your phantasm damage (only effects self damage and shatter damage)

Listen, I understand people wanted a change to phantasm mesmers, and I AGREE they deserved to be nerfed. I have played a mesmer from the start, and always mess around with random builds rather than the same cookie cutter shatter or phantasm builds. My point about this thread isn’t for any sympathy, it’s just pointing out that this change makes it mandatory to spec 25 points into illusions (shatter line), effectively killing EVERY non-shatter spec for all game modes just because one specific build was broken for 1v1.

There could have been many other ways to nerf it, but this was not the answer and makes all mesmers that play all gametypes suffer.
