There seems to be nothing rare in the gifts. Why would I buy gifts again with sweaters?

The value in the TP generally is correct. There are manipulations and mis-pricing, so I applaud your effort to find one, but I’m never surprised when I just say to myself “it would be easier to just buy that”.
If you had a better than 1/5 shot to get something for 2g that is worth 10g, that situation would not live very long.
People will complain about thieves endlessly until they are just watered down warriors.
They should be soulbound on acquire. If you get it with a warrior, you should have it on a warrior, if you get it on a thief, you should have it on a thief.
There is no reason for a sudden increase in supply, and demand is high as ever so price will rise.
I disagree. As the price for ecto rises, it makes more sense to salvage rares — that is, it makes more economic sense to salvage more rares => more ectos in supply.
Love this trait! Can get lots of bleeds quickly on a target … C&D, Caltrops, Dodge w/Caltrops, Pistol/1 = many bleeds quickly.

All Carrion gear. Works very well in all situations (pvp, wvw, pve) and is practically un-killable in world exploration. Signet of Shadows and Short Bow make world exploration a breeze. Shadow Refuge means you can trip just about any node without a huge fight. I can solo many champions (but not all) with this build reliably and AoE farm very effectively.
Oh, by the way, you can win 90% of underwater fights by just going in a circle and dodging (or use Harpoon/3) to get away from charging mobs.
I got one as a daily reward today.
I think they change drop rates behind the scenes without a patch. I also think people are farming like crazy right now for T6 mats.
I’ll never get a legendary, I know that. But, I thought the point was not to buy the mats, but go farm for them (lol). You can either spend your time, or pay other people for their time.

I found it fairly accurate in terms of how much mats I would need for each Tier, but it’s wrong about making staffs. Don’t make staffs for artificer, they are too expensive. You can get to 400 just making focus, scepters and tridents.

They usually all have small inaccuracies, but generally directionally correct.

Very expensive right now because of the cost of ectos.
You have to discover things to make. Lots of guides out there.

The goal would simply be to establish a dow type index for the game. The top 30, 50, 100 or whatever items that represent a baseline against which you could judge inflation and manipulation. Something like …
Ecto
Butter
Chocolate
Superior Rune of Divinity
… on and on
Until you had an index. (I realize I took all the hot topic ones).
From my understanding (and correct me if I’m wrong), the chance of getting a precursor from 4 rares is extremely low. Also, does adding a mystic forge stone help or hurt?
I think it also has to do with the plinx run nerf. At least on my server, every day there were at least 20 people doing this run over and over pretty much 24×7. With decent MF, I was getting on average 2-3 yellows per run. I was salvaging those for 3-5 ectos. Now? I see about 2-3 yellows per day, not per hr. and I get maybe 1 ecto per those 2-3.
I think it’s a combination of 3 things. Drop rate of yellows decreased, ecto salvage rate from yellows decreased, plinx run nerfed.
… of items, what would they be? The index should contain a broad cross-section of items that when taken together represent an overall picture of the market. Does such an index already exist for the game? If not, how many items do you think would make it difficult to manipulate and truly represent the state of the market? 30? 50? 100?
You have to stay in the circle ’till the house goes away, then you can go out and stay stealth.
Artificing is worse I think… soft wood being a particularly sticky point… to give you an example.. i think its 40 softwood logs per staff. That is freaking insane for such a low level item. X.x
The others arn’t quite that bad thankfully, but still, what a kitten.
There is no reason to make a single staff leveling Artificer to 400.
Ectos are not going up any faster than the normal market. Compare for example …

We are seeing across the board increase in prices. I think it probably has to do with the mass bot banning.
So, we might be at a peek right now. I think we will see prices return to the normal trend line. But, who knows.

So the point of this thread is to debate whether a Cap or variable ceiling in possible stats is important or not.
My claim is, whether you think it is or isn’t important, what truly matters is the effect on your character will be too small to notice.
Then why have it? If it adds nothing, it’s unnecessary.
If they didn’t want to add more grind (which they did), they could have added the gear with the new slot and the same stat pool and put rewards that get you closer to your legendary in the higher frac levels. That would give incentive to go out and get the new gear, but not change the manifesto (which they did regardless of what they say in the AMA).
The devs objected to the slippery slope argument, but if they don’t intend to add further tiers, why have another tier at all?
(By the way, you should be using the flat (purple) weapons in the HotM to do your damage calculations, they take out variable weapon damage making it very easy to see what the addition of power is to your damage).
Last thing … in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. When no one else has it, a 10% bump in damage or durability is a massive advantage.

This must be your first MMO. Any class with stealth will be whined and whined into oblivion. Just go play a warrior, you will be fine.

They could just post the patch notes and let us all go ape kitten … that would pacify us for a little while.
People quit matches all too often. In other games, there is a penalty debuff for doing that. It generally prevents you from re-joining a game for X number of minutes (15 minutes seems like enough to keep people from quitting).
Yeah, it seems to want to put you in low pop servers. Seems like a bug to me. I’ve found that looking for a server with 12-13 on it works pretty well. If you try for a 14-15, you get serer full too often.
I see a bunch of servers, I get that. I see the populations … I get that. If I select a game, I and hit “join game”, I jump into that game. It’s the “Play Now” button I don’t get. I always wind up in a game with me and like one other guy when there are plenty of 13/16 games to join. Am I misunderstanding what “Play Now” is supposed to do?
The way it should work is that any stealth overrides any attack … that way, you never stealth then immediately attack.
Okay, that does fix the problem .. but then I have to continually hit my #1 attack which is a pain. Plus, steal does not turn on auto-attack, so this still seems like a bug.
I’ve been trying to figure out what’s wrong with the trait “Hidden Thief” (2 seconds of stealth when you steal). It seems that when you steal, you use your #1 attack once on the target. That makes the Hidden Thief kinda useless since you immediately get revealed by your single attack. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for posting these vids (and in the other thread too) … really great! Question for you, how do you get up to 21K health? With full carrion exotics on armor & trinkets, I only have like 17K. What am I missing?
Also, why choose Infusion of Shadow (10 pt. shadow arts)? This build does not seem to be initiative starved … wouldn’t shadow’s embrace (remove conditions in stealth) be better?
my max hp is 19k, i have 21k in that vid, because our server was winning and we got WvW buff , oh im using those Backpack (5g backpack from guild armor or something ) too from WvW

Yes, being new to the game, this is a real problem. Are we not supposed to participate in crafting until we reach level 80 or something? Or is this just a way to force those of us that want to do crafting to exchange gems for gold?
