Can I craft Exotic

Because crafting is so good to gain levels and skip the terrible areas of the game, you can buy most crafted gear for levels 1-79 for slightly over the vendor price.

So craft if you find it fun, or if you want the XP, but not if you want to have decent gear; for that you should just buy it.

I’m annoyed that so much of the discussion focused on ascended gear. While that sucks, it’s not even in the top 5 of problems I have with GW2. They would be:
1) Bugs, bugs, bugs. When will our classes work as intended? When will events reliably work?
2) WvW. WvW is boring. When will it be made fun? All the focus seems to be on esports.
3) The levelling process is super painful now that zones are empty. What are the plans to fix this?
4) Class balance. I understand this takes time, but certain classes are simply terrible, and others are one-trick ponies.
5) FoTM. This dungeon takes too long to run to advance levels, and the level splintering is stupid. Why can’t I hop in and run a single fractal at whatever level my group wants to run? I don’t have 3 uninterrupted hours to play.
6) Economy. Everything is super cheap except legendaries, which are stupidly expensive (mostly because everything else is super cheap). Was the loot at the end of Lost Shores an attempt to deflate the economy?
7) The Lost shores event was boring, laggy, and buggy. Then you reward people who had a high tolerance for BS with a precursor.

How many here are playing less? And why?

1) I’ve gone from averaging an hour a day to not playing for the last week. I’ve been playing Master of Orion instead.
2) Stopped playing after the Sea of Sorrows event and trying FOTM for a bit.
3) The event was a buggy unplayable message, and the rewards for those who were able to make it are a kick in the gibbles. I’m not able to complete any FOTM levels since I don’t have 3 hrs to play nonstop to try to level up. And now that most of the dungeon-running playerbase has levelled up, it’s even harder to find a group. If I wanted to play a raid progression MMO, I’d play one of the raid progression MMOs out there.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that WvW has been a HUGE disappointment for me. I played over a year of Warhammer for the RvR and scenarios; WvW just doesn’t have the same appeal. I’m not exactly sure why, but it just isn’t fun like Warhammer was.

Arena’s got way better metrics than we do, so I suspect they’re seeing the drop in activity.

Why are people only thinking about participating in events if they gain something from it?
Why not do it because the event itself is a reward?

Then the event should have given a cosmetic, like a piece of shell that could be transmuted onto a back slot, or a title. But instead the event gave an absurdly large reward.

I don’t understand why Arena would

  • Piss off a large portion of it’s player base 3 times: Once because you had people working on a one-time event instead of fixing bugs, again because the event was when many people couldn’t do it, and a third time when the event itself was laggy and people got kicked out and couldn’t log back in

People who work on bugs are going to have a different skill set then the people who work on making new content. You don’t have graphic artists, writers, level designers, modelers, sitting around doing nothing while the programmers are fixing the bugs. No, instead have them make new content.

What about the people who worked on the new mechanics? Could they not work on class mechanics? What about people who worked on new dynamic events? Could they not fix some of the bugged events? What about the people who worked on the new landscape? Could they not fix some of the broken landscape?

The point is, with games like this there are teams that do different things. I’m sure they have teams that work on bugs. Throwing more people at the problem is not always the solution, generally it is very inefficient and just costs the company more money which takes money away from making new content. With my Job, sure we can get a task done faster if we had more then 1 person working on it, but it would not get done 3x times faster, just 2x faster because of the nature of the task. But we can get 3x the work done on different tasks if we all do different tasks.

This has been true for MMOs since the beginning, and there is a reason for it. What you want is not healthy for the game over all. It is the bigger picture that you are missing.

I have a ton of professional experience with large, diverse, teams, and this excuse is BS. People are fungible. Sure, you can’t take an artist and have them optimize netcode, but the examples I gave are valid. Arena made a concious decision to prioritize new content over fixing existing content.

  • Unbalance the economy by handing out gift precursors to those who managed to be at the final event and win the RNG
  • Have massive events that showcase culling and terrible performance when a lot of players get on the screen — seriously, we need an option to turn off friendly spell effects
  • Spend a ton of developer time, including presumably a lot of overtime this weekend, on a terrible event

Whoever made these decisions should be re-assigned to a new job. If they made those decisions because team leads promised the events would run smoothly, then those people need to also be reassigned.

I don’t hate you!

But seriously, this lack of communication from Arena.net is BS. Why do they use twitter when they have official forums, in-game mail, in-game announcements, and other non-sucky ways to communicate?

Thank you ArenaNet!!!

Here’s what sucks about the dungeons:

  • Bugs, bugs, bugs.
  • They are long. It was supposed to be 15-30 minutes per fractal, but even on “easy” ones, it’s about an hour per. I know some people can play GW for 5+ hrs straight, but many of us can’t.
  • If anyone presses the “back to lab” button after finishing a fractal, you lose your progress to advance to the next level. The way to advance to the next fractal is not obvious.

The bugs, lag, and lack of directions on what to do wouldn’t be so bad if this event wasn’t just for a weekend. If your event is only going to run for 3 days, it has to be perfect and clearly explained.

But it doesn’t work like that — one person gets blown off a ladder and ends up un-rezable. So you need everyone else to die and incur repair costs. Not gonna happen.

I got an in-game mail to go to Garrenhoff to fight an all-out attack like the one experienced in Lion’s Arch. (As an aside, I have no idea what happened in Lion’s Arch). So I trek to Garrenhoff, and what do I find? A lot of players standing around, a dynamic NPC who won’t do anything, and no karka to fight.

You have to switch to a good server. My first character was a breeze — events were happening and lots of people helped out. But now, the only people in the lowbie zones were bots. Seriously, I’d see 1-2 real players and 10+ bots all the time. Then I switched from Borlis Pass to Tarnished Coast, and things are good again.

Find a good server (I like TC so far), and transfer to it. If it’s “full” check back every few hours until it’s merely “high.”

Anyone else basically pass on the event?

I found this whole event super confusing. The mail they sent didn’t help either. If your event is going to have a bajillion things going on, you need to make sure people understand what they are.

Then I opened one door and got teleported to a random place, where I talked to some guy who put me in a maze where people tried to kill me and I had no skills. Wow, that was some fun.

The landscape events for Halloween are much harder than other events of their level too. All in all, I can’t wait for this event to be over.

Bummer; can’t transfer to TC because it’s full. I’m stuck on Borlis Pass, where if it weren’t for bots, I’d see maybe one person per zone. If only the bots were better at completing events.

WTB Guild Wars 1 heroes. Or a transfer to a less sucky server.

Another vote for “breaking the blade” being BS. Quinn wasn’t there for me, so I had to fight Doc Howler alone, and she stacks too many conditions. At level 10 I don’t really have any useful condition removal. She has too much health as well. Plus didn’t I just kill her in the previous mission?

It matters for about 20 levels. After that everyone gets back into the same track. Oh, and you often get re-introduced to a good buddy as if you’d never met.

Pretty darn hard on an engineer. Eventually did it at level 22 so that I could use grenades and two turrets.

In general, I find destroyers in this game to be significantly harder than other enemies of their level (and I’m not using burning).

Noticed this a bunch too. There’s a magic place you can stand to hit the object (on a bone trebuchet it seems to be one of the legs but not the others). Not so much of a problem when you’re just grinding out hearts, but it’s really annoying when the objects are shooting at you.

Turn off friendly spell effects

lotharic.9513

We badly need a way to turn off friendly spell effects. When you’re playing with other players, there are a few issues:

  • A big ice shard will be hanging over your head. Is it from a friendly elementalist, or do you need to duck out of the way? No way to tell aside from studying the white/red range circles
  • In massive fights, all you can see is the San Diego fireworks where they all went off at once. You can’t see the enemy winding up his big attack, or very much at all. Heck, in big fights like the camp defenses in Cursed Shores, you can’t even see the enemies at all. You just spam AoE where you think they are and see if big numbers appear on the screen.

Running under him didn’t fix it for me. Bugged out for me 3 times.

Reported a bug, but at the rate they’re (not) fixing things, I guess my personal story won’t get finished for a while. So much for shipping when it’s ready.
