Most of my guild on JQ have decided to take the week off.
Between long broken queue system, the non stop karma farms, and the players that run when a fight starts, and huge ppt lead causing no extra insentive to continue playing, this week is just no fun.

My hopes is a solution to the queue system is found quickly, and most of the AC hunters get their AC’s and head back to pve lands, or at the very least learn how to follow the commander when things deviate from PvD

But really tho, finally I get to see the maguuma forum dwellers that i’ve heard sooo much about haha. Honestly I thought I’d get a challenge here..but nope it’s just a bunch of pride of being amazing “PvFers”, like that’s…something to brag about? lolz, hilarious.

O yea and 4 replies by Maguuma for my ONE simple comment, that’s amazing. LMFAO Honestly i think BG has the worst trolls stiill cuz theyre not just a bunch of crybabies and man, they are in blatant denial of everything they do and say JQ does it instead lol (because you know, JQ totally can do a 2v1 last week on the other servers AT THE SAME TIME as when all SoR and BG did was either 1. camp our spawn, or 2. camp bloodlust nodes 24/7). Oh and the claims of HzH hacking LOL because we can do that while an Arenanet employee was in our very zerg + TS oftentimes

Crystal desert is mainly a PVE server. Attached is the score taken a few minutes prior this post. Achievement hunters seem to be helping alot with the score.

Once the achievement hunting has tone down after a few weeks since most would have cleared it by then,we’ll take a look at the score for CD again, if its significantly poorer than this than we can safely say its not the achievement hunters fault that the server is losing.

All this really means is that there is even more emphasis on oceanic and sea, because while NA prime time queues mean that player slots get taken up by pve players who don’t know what they are doing (making NA time PPT less meaningful), overnight times can always benefit from more players.

Question about simple macro's

in WvW

Posted by: luckywaldo.6089

luckywaldo.6089

In the spirit of the law?

You don’t think pressing one key and getting a whole phrase typed out for you is any easier or quicker than having to type the whole thing out? Doesn’t that give one player a distinct advantage over the player that has to type the whole phrase out? Isn’t that what the spirit of the law is really aiming for, not giving one player a distinct advantage over another?

“Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.

1.This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.
2.For example, if you Press A and it results in the casting of a single skill, you’re ok. If you Press A and it casts multiple spells, you’re not ok.
3.You cannot program a macro to perform the same or multiple actions on more than one account at a time.
4.You cannot program an “auto-clicker” macro that, for instance, opens chests while you play elsewhere."

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Policy-3rd-Party-Programs-Multi-Boxing-Macros/first#post1532762

I doubt they come along and clarify it any more than that. They have shown reluctance to do so. According to the ‘letter of the law’ it isn’t allowed either. But then again, NO real macros are allowed. Only key remapping according to their interpretation.

Voice chat, pumpkin.

In the spirit of the law, it should be fine. The point is to prevent people from getting special advantages from coding macros; in this case, however, you can and people do the same thing even more efficiently with teamspeak.

In the letter of the law, it could be argued that it is technically not allowed.

So while it shouldn’t get you banned, there is no guarentee. I would recommend trying to get your server into Teamspeak/Mumble/whatever your server has. All you need is a mic; all they need is to install the program.

The Blob Problem

in WvW

Posted by: luckywaldo.6089

luckywaldo.6089

Let us turn to the Blob Problem. Many people have derided blobbing stifles skill development. This is where a big mass of players in a mega zerg stacking up close together in their movement as one big ball. Such big blobs can easily steam role roamers and do so regularly.

Roamers maintain roaming requires skills and blobbing does not. The predominance of blobbing in World versus World had meant subdue of players’ skills. Blobbing have and always will overcome skills use in battle.

Blobbing create skill lag. Skill lag only ever appear in a blob encounter. Related to that is blobbing cause general lag over all in game play. Another intrinsic problem that Blobbing causes is culling.

The progenitor and the formative development of blobbing is GvG. This is when initially beginning with 5 or up to 8 players a side that now has grown to upwards from 10 to 15 and even 25 plus a side. Blobbing and GvG uses the same style of play. Both use the same techniques and control. Both are created by the same group of people run by the same group of commanders.

Today I learned that mega-zergs consist of as many as 20-25 people, and were invented by GvG players. Before GvG started, WvW fights were only 5-8 people per side. GvG drivers spread this technique because they love running with commander tags on and picking up lots of pugs. After all, you need those pugs to build that 25 man mega-zerg.

The point isn’t to dimish the value of other players, the point is that it is very silly to act as though guilds playing the occasional GvG are a detriment to the server.

If a server feels that way, they should let their guilds know, so that the guilds may consider the option of transferring to a more welcoming server.

The problem with wxp/loot incentives is that the zerg will always take the path of least resistance for their loot, and if that means the ruins then the zerg will just circle around the ruins.

Wow, you guys amaze me every day. On this very page alone I find two posts where terribad Baby-PvPers alias GvGers are so full of themselves to assume everybody who doens`t enjoy your “1” spamming cyclejerk must be a newb.

Sorry to break it to you guys, you`re pretty much at the bottom of the foodchain skillwise.

Good players usually don`t rely on 24 mates to show off their skills, good players usually despise any setting where their individual talents cannot shine, good players usually don`t GvG because they would simply feel bored to hell…

Now go on mass report my post like you did with the last guy on this page who expressed an opinion (without any namecalling or insults) that was not yours just 10 minutes ago… so mature, so classy!

Best regards

Why is everyone so woefully ignorant of how GvG works? It’s a very occasional event, something that takes a lot of coordination to set up and is usually done in a way that doesn’t interfere with WvW.

Most people in my guild do far more roaming or PvP, because that is also a lot of fun and also doesn’t require nearly as much work.

Of everyone here, you are the elitist who is telling us that we can’t decide to have fun in a certain way.

I still find it odd that the GvG Crowd and General WvW crowd seem to be at war. Given that I participate in both, I feel left out.

As far as I can tell, this isn’t where the war is at. GvG’s are almost entirely done by guilds that identify as WvW guilds, and playing GvG is just kind of a side distraction to occasionally do something a little different than ‘normal’ WvW. There is usually a lot of mutual respect between these guilds and the other hardcore players and commanders on a server for each other’s dedication.

This isn’t a rule, but it is my impression that the criticisms come from the more casual WvW players. Kind of like when you run a PvE dungeon, there are certain unsaid rules to how everyone is expected to play it. The generally expected rule among casual WvW players is that you run in a zerg and flip objectives.

Now there are legitimate cases of GvG hurting a server’s performance, but it’s the exception and not the rule, and it’s a symptom of lack of communication in a server anyway, and should be handled on the server’s community level.

You know, in the end, I think allowing GvG matches should pretty much be dependent on the servers themselves. If a server majority decides they are too serious for GvG’s, they should let their guilds know so those guilds can decide to give up GvG or transfer to another server. If the anti-GvG people find themselves in the minority, they can consider transferring themselves to a server who thinks like they do.

ANet really needs to just stay out of it. Maybe they need to consider that the best way for games to stay fresh is to allow players more creativity and variety and independence, and to not try to keep them chained inside a box of “the correct, intended way to play”. It isn’t just about GvG; my server also has nights like ‘naked night’ and ‘drunk necro night’. It’s awesome and hilarious, and prevents the game from feeling like a monotonous drag.

And I would be interested in seeing the way the “serious, anti-GvG” servers stack up against the others.

26 pages and we have seen the response and apology from ANET in regards to this incident. When are we going to see a similar response from those people involved for their language and treatment of the ANET person? Apologies should go both ways in this case but I have yet to see the opposing side man up and do so. All I see is “he kittened up and should be lynched, tarred and feathered and run out of town”. Since such language is against the TOS should those involved be punished accordingly which would constitute a ban? Fair is fair! Both sides were wrong.

I hope they apologized to him personally for being rude, but at this point in the thread that is almost off topic. There aren’t 26 pages for that brief encounter, but rather because some people actually defend the idea that you shouldn’t be allowed to organize PvP fights in an open world PvP environment.

I try to leave the gvg crowd be, but honestly many come off as elitist. Secondly, tonight there was a huge gvg event in tc bl, where we were fighting to save our keep. We could not get help in the bl, and when we asked for help to save our keep we were told to leave the bl. This is way too early in the match to be throwing the match.

No it isn’t, ur matched to BG and SoR. The match was thrown when it was made, don’t lie to yourself. Your highest tick not including the first couple hours was what? a 240?

Did I say which server I call home? Lol you know what they say abou ASSumptions.

Uh, you did when you referred to anything in TC BL as YOURS?

Our keep. As in we owned the keep, lol. reading is fundamental.

It’s not his fault, the universal convention among wvw players is to refer to the keeps on own borderlands as ‘your keeps’ and the keeps on enemy borderlands as ‘their keeps’, regardless of who is owning it for the PPT. It works this way because servers like to focus population on Home BL to have a home-field advange, so having everything on home is a must and anything you take on other BL’s is like extra credit.

However, I frequently play outnumbered when my server is at the bottom of an uneven matchup, because the fairweather players who filled up queues on easy matchups are now nowhere to be found.

Now who is the greater detriment to a server’s WvW? Ultimately both are doing the same thing, focusing on their interest of fun, not necessarily having any malicious intent toward anyone else, but obviously ignoring the interests of everyone else.

Are GvG players the villains on the server simply because they thought outside the box a little, and found a way to have fun without ANet telling them they were allowed to have fun that way?

I think it’s safe to say that fairweather players are an issue on just about every server, that’s just how people are. They do cause a population shift during more difficult and unbalanced matchups which makes the matchup even more imbalanced, but they aren’t in a wvw map taking up a player slot while intentionally not participating in wvw. Just because the fairweather players are gone for a week doesn’t mean all queues are gone.

But GvG players are participating in WvW. It’s an open world PvP area, is it not?

It just isn’t what the developers expected, because they thought all fights must revolve around their capture points.

There are significantly bigger problems in WvW that effect other players experience, least of which are players dueling each other. The fact that each match-up is a blow out in all tiers except 1 (maybe 2) is probably the biggest issue. Having played on ET for almost a year I can tell you that from personal experience, it was so bad that I just stopped queuing for WvW.

I have to agree that the current situation with wvw is not a good one, and you probably won’t find many that would consider it to be without major problems.

Regardless, what you said is a game design issue not a player issue. Players should be able to do what they are doing. ANet should never tell players they shouldn’t be doing what they are doing as long as it is not against ToS. Because if they do, it puts them in a very sticky situation.

It’s not viable to design a game where everything a player can do should be considered acceptable. Just look at the update history we’ve had so far. Nothing in the ToS forbids intentionally not completing or failing a dynamic/meta event, but Anet has made their stance on that rather clear. There have been several instances of events being farmed instead of completed that lead to those events being altered in way to make that impossible or deter it. The reasons for this being that the content was not being played as intended, and that these farmers were preventing others from finishing they event, or harassing them for doing so.

I play a lot of WvW, and as far as I know, I have never played outnumbered because of a GvG taking up queue space.

Jesus Christ. Prior to watching this GvG video, I almost thought ( from what it sounded like ) that it might be a good deal to have as a form of competitive PvP officially. Wow, freaking Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry in GW1 would have been better candidate than this mess.

There is no way in Hell, that I’d ever want this introduced as such. Frankly, we need more Devs like this with the same opinion.

If you’re not in WvWvW to compete on behalf of your server then kindly get out.

I don’t understand. Some people are fine with ascended gear, with wxp buffs like applied fortitude, with outrageously uneven matchups and coverage problems, and with bloodlust.

But a guild spends 1 hour on a dead thursday night to play a GvG, and they lose their minds because it’s ‘unbalancing’ WvW.

Disclaimer: none of this is opinion, it’s facts based on what I’m reading. It’s a summary. Enjoy

There’s several factions here besides yours. First, There’s people who care about PPT. On NA t1, gvg does indeed eat up valuable queues. That upsets the hardcore wvw’ers.

Then you got the people who think train v train isn’t actually an organized esport. They believe it involves less skill than tpvp. Many pvp players fall into the category. I am one of them. I tend to question if we really want gvg in the current format. I tend to think more critically about things. For me, I call it train v train because it does not represent any kind of gvg that I enjoy.

Then you have ANET. They’re professional devs so they will take a more disciplined approach to gvg design. A problem for them is that they tend to agree with the tpvp’ers in terms of how competitive “gvg” really is. They would say it’s a degenerate form of combat by their criteria. However, it’s something many in the community like. So how do they deliver on that while also keeping everyone happy and making it competitive?

After that, you have the wvw dvs like devon who have been dragged through the mud for doing their jobs.

I think everyone needs to look at it critically like that. Try to understand the other side’s perspective. We’re all smart people. How can smart people disagree? They have a different vantage point. Learn what that is before raging and burning bridges.

You claim to think critically, but you immediately dismiss the value of GvG because you personally don’t see any value because, without participating, you assume it requires no skill?

How about trying to see this perspective: playing WvW is lots of fun, but unlike tPvP you might spend an entire week of being outrageously outnumbered in fights. On the night before reset it’s dead because all the fairweather players went back to PvE when the match started, and you play GvG with another guild because it’s refreshing to play a little matchup where both sides have even numbers.

Now some people who only play for the tower-flipping zerg tell you that your GvG is ruining their game, because your aren’t filling your duty of being their loot train.

I absolutely don’t want to be dragging devs through the mud, but it’s frustrating that devs want to punish the people who usually play WvW the most.

But they are meaningful as long as anyone has interest in them, and several people still do.

I dare you to find me one person in the game who cares about PPT. And when I say ‘cares’ I mean, would continue to play for PPT even if all rewards were removed. No champion bags for killing lords, no WxP, no ascended materials, no experience, no karma, no gold. Absolutely no incentive but the PPT. Find me that person, and that person does care about PPT.

Because I’m rather inclined to think that the people upset about GvG are more upset about having their karma trains stolen away.

I am that person. I have everything I need in the game. I play because I like blowing people up on my engineer.

Well it’s not the PPT you care about then, it’s the PvP.

In which case, you should really try out GvG/Fightclubs. Making a fuss on the forums isn’t a requirement, and these people are really badly represented on the forums. ,All you need to do is show up and have fun fighting other people, which is what the game is really best at.

It’s WvW, not GvG. Not sure what you expect. You think people are just going to leave it alone when they’re trying to play the game as intended? Anet or not, you’re going to get grief for wasting everyone else’s time in wvw by sitting there and not contributing.

You think people come to WvW just to GvG?

It’s dedicated WvW guilds who spend 95% of their time “playing WvW” and are tired of being outnumbered and fighting for the rest of their server who does less and cares less than they do.

Araris. You are wrong about sparing the 2-5 players.

Consider this. kaineng is not even down with the lowest servers. On each BL at any random time we might have 1 group of 5 people. If we gather up all three borderlands, we may have a zerg of 13-15.

That is 15 players to take and defend… sorry sparing 5 for bloodlust when they will get rolled on by 15 is a waste.

YOU may be able to spare those players… but most of the silver league will not be able to spare those numbers.

I think this post illustrates my point perfectly. I am not saying that players in lower tiers count less, they count the same amount of any player. And there are far less of them than in NA T1. Balance should focus on making matches where the majority of players participate balanced and enjoyable. If the mid tiers (lets say t4-6) of NA held the majority of players then that is where the balance should be focused on. If the majority of wvw population was Top tiers of EU, then that should be the benchmark; however, it is not. The majority of players (not just the match up with the most players) play NA T1 represented now by Blackgate, Sanctum of Rall and Jade Quarry.

The Blood lust buff fixes many of the problems the majority of WvW player experience.

In terms of numbers its simply a net win.

So you’re saying that there are more WvW players in T1 than in the rest of the tiers combined?

I’m saying the majority of the population of all regular WvW players in housed withing the top 3 NA servers.

Is this a joke? I’ve played on T8 and seen 1hr map queues no problem, depending on the matchup.

Population issues don’t have to do with raw player numbers, they have to do with fairweather players that clog up WvW on easy matchups and tuck tail and run on touch matchup weeks. When you in a T1 server fight a T2 or T3 server, you are only seeing a fraction of the people who play when they are matched up against a T4 or T5 server.

So T1 servers only have marginally more people than other servers, they are just overall better and better coordinated, and don’t have to deal with the people who only show for the easy karma train.

Ideas to help outmanned servers

in WvW

Posted by: luckywaldo.6089

Right now the outmanned buff gives you free trip to spawn with no repair penalty if you die—sounds about right to me. Also the buff lets you know you are outmanned so you can plan tactics accordingly—sounds about right to me.

Any other tinkering with this buff will just make the situation worse!

I know that the implication is that the weak servers are outmanned because they have low populations and they should get help against the strong or large population servers. However, that is just not true. I play on a tier one server which has a very large and robust WvW community and depending on the time of day or the BL we are on we get the outmanned buff—often. We are usually miles ahead in PPT but would it be right if we also got some huge buff because we are not properly covering a BL?

Agreed, some servers need those occasional opportunities to pull back a bit.

The problem isn’t purely about being outnumbered, it’s that losing in PPT by a large amount starts a feedback loop where fewer people get in WvW because they see the server is losing, so it keeps losing harder and harder over the week.

The problem has more to do with unbalanced rewards that encourage casual players to karma train on easy matchup weeks, and then fall back to PvE with their tails tucked between their legs on hard matchup weeks.

WvW is broken, now simply a farm mode

Certain sources have indicated that WvW was always supposed to be a casual karma train. And the fact that it was originally a great game, with even more potential to be outstanding, was a complete accident on the part of the developers.

Warrior / necro / guardian

in WvW

luckywaldo.6089

I don’t think Warr/Necro/Guard groups are necessarily the best or only option, but they are certainly the most popular because it’s a tried and true mixture with lots of youtube videos of guilds showing off the play style in zerg-busting and GvG.

Here is the major problem: mechanics like time-gated ascended gear and character-bound WvW ranks discourage players from trying new characters/classes and/or builds. I’m going to much prefer playing my Necro with all the nice gear and buffs, than spend all the time getting another set of BiS gear together or grind through WvW ranks again with another class.

This means WvW meta is going to shift very slowly. Most everyone will avoid trying out new things because the game so heavily discourages it. So it’s going to take a long time before some adventuring people or guild find a different way to play.

Do Guilds need to quit for you to change WvW?

I find it amusing that the game is suddenly shattered for so many over something as insignificant as a 0-150 point increase in stats. I simply can’t believe that people who honestly and legitimately enjoyed the game prior to the buff are unable to logically enjoy it now. It seems far more likely that they’re simply being disingenuous, for effect.

“Insignificant” is not what I would call 4 ascended trinkets’ worth of stats.

Take the inverse of Bloodlust; if the other realms could get a bonus which, upon getting it, would let them go “nope, you’re not allowed to equip any accessories”, would that shed any light on it for you then? Can you understand why they might think that completely invalidates WvW? Because that is 2/3rds of what this system does. It’s even worse than everything else that imbalances WvW because you can’t both have those orb bonuses at the same time; if someone else is eating, you can eat too. If someone else has stacked Guard Killer, you can stack Guard Killer. If you’re outmanned and you want to roam for some fun fights? Enjoy your (even more) uphill battle.

There is a significant difference between a minor, blanket increase in stats and forbidding an enemy from equipping accessories altogether. I understand the spirit of what you meant, but that is a ridiculously silly comparison to make.

The thing is… 150 stat points is, in most cases, insignificant. Assuming you have all the buffs at all times (which has been exceedingly rare so far), you’ll be maybe 5% stronger than your opponent, give or take. If you die to a thief in two backstabs without the buff, you’ll still die in two backstabs. If you kill someone in ten hits without the buff, you might kill them in nine with the buff. In the vast majority of cases, people aren’t winning or losing fights by the margin provided with bloodlust, and that is why it’s insignificant. People just want an excuse for losing.

Regardless of that… So many people in WvW don’t use food or other such bonuses, despite the fact that they can. Plenty still run around in rares or exotics, when others are using ascended. When you encountered such a person prior to this week’s patch, did it completely ruin the game for you? Did you avoid the fight? Did you think “this game sucks, I should quit”? If people never reacted with outrage to those situations, I can’t exactly take it seriously when they scream about this one, considering it’s virtually the same issue.

“The game was not perfectly balanced; therefore any additional imbalance must be acceptable.”

Tequatl can be defeated...

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: luckywaldo.6089

luckywaldo.6089

This is what we asked for.

I never asked for this.

ANet was kind enough to make it optional.

Optional? Than wheres my old teq that involves me standing at his foot and giving him a pedicure until he needs another nap.

Optional would imply I had the option to do old teq or new teq. If I wanted a challenge I’d go play a non-MMO, I went to world bosses for free ecto’s.

Optional implies that there isn’t any reason to beat him important to the rest of the game, like BiS gear. Which is exactly the case.

And MMO’s SHOULD be difficult in a way that gets people to interact and cooperate. I’ve run champ trains, and the only reason anyone talks is because we are so bored out of our minds we talk to relieve it. Now people are talking on how they can improve their builds, how they can improve their approach, and work together to take on a challenge.

It’s excellent, and it’s a shame that the game has trained people up to this point to think they deserve rewards just for showing up.

Gear setup for Tequatl fight

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: luckywaldo.6089

luckywaldo.6089

Let’s see: change out an entire set of gear for one event at enormous cost (not everyone has stacks of gold) when no server has even managed it yet, or alternative two:

Don’t bother with wasting all that time and effort on the event and go and enjoy your limited leisure time – it’s supposed to be fun and entertaining not annoying and frustrating.

Compared to ascended gear, exotic is a joke to get, much less rare.

I much prefer this addition to the game that encourages variety, rather than a multiple-month process of getting a single set of marginally better gear.

Now everyone who posts, include the updated total. That way, anyone can look at the last post and see a total up to this point, and not need to read every individual post.

I’m excitied to have more place to have fights, especially fights on interesting terrain that don’t involve people hiding in towers. (Or water combat, yuck)

It remains to see though if this mechanic will bring out more action or if it will be a way for the more populated servers to pummel the underdogs even harder.
