You’ve sparked my interest in trying that puzzle out ;P Sounds like fun!
Yep. Good idea Ronah. I haven’t had problems with the current system, but I can see where it could be confusing and complex (having so many different types of gathering tools).
I disagree with making things easier. My non gaming 50 year old father in law plays this game with a ball mouse. He doesn’t have any difficulty. I imagined that he would when he started playing, but after each jumping puzzle or vista, he keeps telling me “This is all they got?”.
Anet should build their game for the majority, not the minority.
Edit: Sorry if I came off rude. I didn’t intend to.
Wonderful list. Not groundbreaking…but good stuff for a big patch.
CPU is not bad. What is a exact model of the VGA card? They made multiple models in the 7800 range.
CPU bottleneck?
OK, I’ll grant you that WoW’s LFG system is lifeless and boring.
But the system that GW2 uses (i.e. no system at all) is worse. Spamming map chat for 20-30 minutes isn’t fun. Seeing everyone else spam map chat constantly isn’t fun. Being suppressed for asking in map chat isn’t fun.
WoW used to have a channel for LFG. It didn’t solve the first problem, but it more or less solved the other two. GW2 could at least do that much.
I’ve been around since Vanilla and all I remember is /2 Trade chat…was LFG chat.
But I do agree that Anet should change ‘chat suppression’ and add a LFG channel or search menu. If people will use it.
Maybe I should note that I’m running everything super max. Including supersampling. I don’t know where other people stand on the settings.
That would explain why. Back it off a lil ;P
Odd. My wife has this:
AMD FX-4100 CPU
4Gb DDR3
6670 DDR3 VGA Card (Low End)
Windows 7 64bit
Medium Settings
She is pushing 50FPS steady. No problems.
Sorry, I wasn’t trying to create a ‘why’ article on whether or not the game was optimized, but I was only saluting Anet for optimizing GW2 to a point after BWE3 that 3 completely different systems that I have playing GW2 (Mine, my wifes, and father in Laws) all have very noticeable differences in FPS wherever in the world.
Same driver version: 12.8
Difference was noticed 3 days after the initial rush into GW2. Anet released a day 1 update to the graphic menu options. That is when the game starting running much more smoothly.
I agree with a small bit of reluctance. Because it can be hard to find groups for some people. Anet found a way for people to work together so seamlessly in every other aspect of the game. As it is, people are using the classic lfg in map chat. Perhaps this could still be improved a little?
Of course, none of this really matters in my mind though. As I am slightly disappointed with the ease of getting dungeons done with random pick up groups. Even if we have a weak link or two, it’s not like it wont get done. Nerf corpse running already!
I agree with nerfing corpse running. That is a whole other subject though ;P
Large dynamic events do great (20+ players). Haven’t tried WvW yet.
I was only referring to open world PVE and how it was unoptimized for my system during BWE1-3. I was worried after BWE3, but now I couldn’t have asked for more.
In GW2, I am forced to find groups if I want to party for a dungeon. In WoW, the dungeon finder was awesome at first, but when you stand back and look at what it has done…you begin to realize that maybe it wasn’t necessary.
I feel as if WoW’s dungeon finder connected people without them having to ‘connect themselves’. Instead of going out, spending whatever amount of time to find people, /w them and ask them questions…etc, and then invite them to the party…WoW makes grouping almost brain dead.
I remember grouping in WoW through dungeon finder and never talking to the person I was with. Like we are just going through the motions and he is there as an extra body.
I just got out of an instance in GW2 (CM SM) and had a blast with my party. We joked and talked more than my parties in WoW did.
So instead of creating another lobby system and doing everything for us Anet, I think in my unqualified opinion that an MMO should be about communicating and forming groups ‘ourselves’ to accomplish goals.
Note: And yes I do realize how long groups can take to form…etc. I am sure there are ideas for that ‘without’ a dungeon finder.
Sometimes we need to stand back and think about why we think the way we do about MMOs. Is it because we came from WoW? What if GW2 was our first game and we moved to WoW…what our opinion be then?
Even though mailing works great and COD is good…I prefer trading since you interact with players on a personal basis. I would honest end up using both systems.
Greatswords are fun.
Same here, Thanks Anet!
Just wanted to say that you guys did a great job optimizing GW2.
System:
Phenom II X4 965 3.6GHz
HD 6870 1Gb
4Gb DDR2
Windows 7 64bit
High SettingsSilky Smooth 70FPS Strong
Great FPS for an MMO. I am one happy camper. Thanks ANET!
How is your FPS in crowded WvW?
Haven’t tried it yet to be honest.
FPS during BWE1-BWE3 was:
20-30FPS
Now it is 70-100FPS
Very large and noticable difference overall. Zero lag when I whip the camera around.

Me and my group just experienced the same bug.
- Change guild chat color (the color doesn’t stick out). Give option to change chat color.
- Notification when running low on gathering tools
- Better party invite notifications (people have a hard time knowing when I invite them)
- More emotes to play with
- Double clicking to salvage masterwork or higher items deselects my salvage kit
- Still not sure why I can’t vendor some of my soulbound items
- Preview for Trading Post (I think this is already being worked on)
- Still haven’t figured out what all these tools on the ground are for (shovel, stick…etc). Myself and my friend just pass them up. Consider reducing the amount of ground junk or explaining better (ex: Sylvari starting area where you have to dig up worms. That was done well).
- Some sieges are clunky to operate. It does take more skill, but sometimes you want to sit in a seat and fire away without having a turn a crank that moves like molasses.
Please release a Halloween Event. This will be my 1st on Guild Wars. I am excited to check it out!!!
I think the frequency of PC chatter is fine IMO.
GW2 uses the easiest looting method I have experienced. Just tap F when passing over mobs…easy pesy.
You don’t want to make everything super easy. I remember when Vanilla WoW was very fun, but many of the old mechanics would be frowned upon nowadays. Make things too easy, sooner or later everyone will just stand around in Stormwind…

Great idea on the notifications OP!
I agree inspect should be looked into and implemented. Great feature.
We have a small guild of 5 real life friends. We are noticing that we /w more than /g because it is hard to see /g in the mist of the other channels due to its color. Please consider changing the color of the /g chat or allow players to create their own colors.
I am having to constantly tell friends over chat that I sent them a group invite also because the notification noise isn’t loud enough. Please consider working on this also.
I am having problems with lvl 57-62 (so far) Sylvari personal story quests (a couple before Forging the Pact). The Vigil Charr Commander (female) is having no voice with no lips moving. And after that, Trahearne is not talking sometimes. Sorry I don’t have the exact names.
Also, the personal story quest last night (Sylvari, lvl 62) Forging the Pact is still bugged keeping the researches from following me to the south exit. Some people said I have to make sure Trahearne stays alive throughout the whole encounter.
Me and my friend (With a different setup: Nvidia card and Intel CPU) have no problems whatsoever except the occasional lag drop. GW2 runs much better than it previously did in beta. It is on your side…not coding considering people are running the game fine.
I love challenging Vistas and jumping puzzles. Probably the most innovative thing Anet did (turn jumping into a sport). Anyhow, I think they should make Vistas more difficult (And I am sure many people will agree). If my 60 year old father in law can do it (still pecks, clicks, and uses a ball mouse…anyone can).
Oh, and BTW Anet…thank you for updating the sky jumping puzzle in Metrica Providence (2nd air vine). Me and my father in law had a blast trying to figure out that one.
Well, for an “MMO”, they did a good job. Of course they will go further with optimization, so things will get even better. MMOs are a different beast than regular single player games (I know you didn’t compare them, but many people do). I’ve played a couple popular western MMOs (WoW, Rift, TOR) and Anet did a great job optimizing this game comparison to the ones above (except WoW because of its age).
Anyhow, I have these specs below:
Phenom II X4 3.8Ghz
HD 6870 1Gb (newest drivers)
Windows 7 64bit
Game on “High” settings running at 60-80 FPS everywhere except WvW (~20-80 FPS).
Sounds to me like your PC or setup (software or hardware wise) is the problem. 1st thing I would do is start with the crossfire setup. Some games are picky about 2 VGA cards. Then I would play with your drivers. Anyhow, good luck.
I would love for dueling to be implemented. I am hoping for a patch soon that includes dueling. Me and my friend are itching to test each other’s skills out (balanced or not).
Agree. Level 10 loot for a lvl 56 is disappointing.
Please NO! That would be equivalent to adding a playable race such as…Pandas.
I had a similiar problem with 2Gb of RAM on XP Pro when traveling to different areas on the loading screens (game would crash to the desktop 50% of the time with a fatal error). Upgraded to 3Gb of RAM….problem went away completely.
This game is terribly coded.
Sorry, Rift is terribly coded. They did a good job with this game.
Phenom II X4 3.8GHz
HD 6870 1Gb (newest driver)
Windows 7 64bit
Everything else standard
Game runs very smooth (60-80fps) comparison to Stress Tests and BWE1-3. Anet did a great job on optimization before release.
I didn’t like the trailer either. I was not expecting that type of trailer. No offense Anet. You have proved so far that you can produce good trailers, but this?
I would like to see duels also. Me and my friend are itching to test each other out.
Need a stronger notification sound that someone invited you to a party. I have to tell mey friends over Vent that I sent them an invite because the current notification doesn’t get the point across.
Also, the auction house needs a sound when you buy something. A week ago, I bought 5 shoulders on accident because I thought the “Buy” button was bugged. No sound or anything.
