If WvW is the main reason you play the game, don’t bother with HoT. Currently, PvP and WvW has no means of unlocking the new specs as they are only unlocked through hero points which can only be earned through PvE content (400 points for the elite spec that is).
Anet bent PvPers over the barrel and went to town on this one.
Anet: “HEY GUISE!!!1!!! LOOKIT WAT CARBINE IZ DOON!!!”
And thus was the beginning of the end for GW2. /sadtrombone
As a token of good will, they could just remove the class weight restriction on pieces when you use them for looks, mixing and matching pieces for some cool appearances.
And don’t give me that stale lore spiel, ‘cause Braham is wearing fur and hide armor and don’t give me the clipping spiel either since a lot of pieces of the same weight class already have very noticeable clipping. The only reason this isn’t in game already is due to dev laziness as proven by them continuing to make outfits and not armors.
Sorry to be the debbie downer here, but Anets investment goes into outfits and BL ticket weapon skins. Meaning you got to pay for them. That’s the direction they’ve decided on and that’s what you’ll get from now on. We are just going to have to deal with it.
Interesting perspective. Thanks for giving Anet the idea of putting HP boosters on the gem store.
A large chunk of complaints are coming from people who want their elite spec so they can enjoy content as said spec. Another large chunk is people mad because story is locked behind the ultra grindy masteries. And yet another chunk is folks mad about having to play PvE content to unlock the elite spec when they only PvP/WvW.
Once those 3 problems are solved the complaints would take a nose dive.
Right, early Sylvari design had them looking more humanish with human skin and such, but since then, most art work has adjusted to look more like their current shrubbish (haaah, puns) appearance.
But what I’m saying is that artwork for Charr hasn’t changed even though character models have, it all still depicts them as standing upright. Charr DO NOT stand upright in game, much to the dismay of many a folk who want it to be so. The fact that the artwork continues to do so is insulting to us who wish for upright Charr.
Somebody had data mined that there were very few new skins with HoT some many months ago.
And really, there’s no reason to add them either, all their time goes into making Black Lion Ticket weapon skins and outfits that are put on the cash shop.
It’s funny you mention Wildstar because this HoT expansion reminded me a whole lot of Wildstar’s end game grind.
The Charr (Rytlock I assume) on the launch window is very clearly a cool looking upright standing Charr, not the hideous bent over types that are in the game. If you are going to continue making art work for Charr, please make their physiology match what their actual character models look like (since changing the character models is completely out of the question). At this point you are just mocking us and rubbing salt in the wound.
Also, the Charr neck and head area is so incredibly fat that there is no way that skinny little tail is preventing them from falling flat on their faces multiple times a day.
I felt like shoving my 2 cents in… so take it. Take it hard.
ANY creature that walks on it’s hind legs DOES NOT have a hunch unless they have a physical deformity.
It does not matter if they run on all fours or their default stance in on all fours (Note the Charr’s is a hind legged stand)
Charr should have be standing up right. Period. They can run on all fours like a beast, that’s fine (Even though they don’t run any faster than the other two legged races, which is the whole purpose of running on four legs), they can even hunch over a bit while in combat, e.i. combat stance, but the hunch is such a hideous and vile fantasy archetype for the "Barbarian/warrior/beastly races.
Oh, and here is REAL WORLD PROOF that four legged creatures ARE NOT HUNCHBACK when walking upright.
People say they want hardcore content but quickly choose the easiest way to complete said content. baffling!
Just take tempest and fire specs, equip a staff and condition gear, and watch the world burn.
Anet should lock builds as soon a the group enters the raid. Then make each boss use 2 or 3 random mechanics out of a list of 10 or so. This would promote a group to bring a little of every thing so they could cover all the bases.
Maybe it’s not a perfect solution, but it’s better than what will become of raids: after a month or two every boss will be analyzed and each class will have the most efficient spec for them listed to easily down the boss.
“You’re going to have a bad time. But don’t worry, as we’re leaving you a repair anvil at the entrance. You know—to collect your tears on.”
You know who else talked like that about their PvE content? Carbine.
Some one said once that the ranger is the “Jack-of-trades” class. And they are right, considering how rangers function.
“Every thing a ranger can do, another class can do it better and more of it.” This is true. But, a ranger can do almost every thing every other class can do, just not as well.
So maybe Ranger truly is working and intended: a crippled class.
It very well may be just my imagination, but after doing jump puzzles on several characters and playing SAB until I fell into a coma, it just feels like after the trait overhaul patch my characters jump is just a little bit lower than before. idk
What’s important is that the design goal of GW2 is that every class can fill every role if they choose to build for it, and that class will have a unique flavor and playstyle for that support, dps, or control build.
That’s perfectly okay, as it allows sane people to go “okay, we need one more DPS, you there, you’re a what, engineer? what’s a good engineer DPS spec? Okay, can you run that today?” in stead of “Well, we need one more DPS and all we have online is five tanks. guess someone needs to reroll warrior”
I’m not saying each class needs to become a dedicated role, absolutely not, I am against that 100%. What I’m saying is players should have the option to build a dedicated role that actually works if they so choose to.
Masteries are just like reputations, it is like people calling “Coca Cola” “Coke”, doesn’t make it a different pop..
That is your opinion. I would say masteries are more similar to the increase in level cap most expacs bring to other MMOs.
Player: “Hey Mister Frog, can you teach me your language or any other useful stuff?”
Mister Frog: “No, you are unknown to my tribe, go kill stuff in my name, and you will be rewarded!”Player: “I killed lots of stuff, tell me your secrets!”
Mister Frog: “Here, take this stick as reward, you have done well and are now known to our tribe!”
Player: “A stick, but what about your language?”
Mister Frog: “Kill more stuff in my name, and you will get a higher reward of our tribe.”Wow, really doesn’t look like a reputation system to me, how could I even come up with that idea…?
Please explain to me which race teaches me how to hang glide.
Please explain to me which race teaches me how to auto loot and run faster in cities.
Please explain to me which race is teaching me about fractals and how to forge precursors.
I’ll give you that there are similar aspects to reputations present in the mastery system, but you’re picking out individual masteries and claiming the entire system follows that same format.
It is exactly like a reputation system, but instead of giving gear, mounts, neat little trinkets, or new quests, it gives abilities that-like better gear-help you perform better and explore new places, as that falls in line with GW2 horizontal progression.
It’s like if you want to make toast, you can put bread in a toaster… or a toaster oven… or an actual oven. All three are a bit different, but all three result in toast.
I wouldn’t mind a further push toward the trinity system. That way we wouldn’t have every other player and their mother in full zerk gear for content (WvW-sPvP specialty builds aside), we could actually make more diverse and interesting builds that were actually competitive in the PvE environment, such as a legitimate tank build or healing build. You may not realize just how deeply these role archetypes are wanted in the PvE community. Yes, there are people who want to heal and only heal and I don’t see why said players shouldn’t be allowed to do so in a game that is “play your way”.
Some one once wrote a long thread on this forum about it. It summed up to; “It’s fine that Anet did away with the trinity system in GW2, what isn’t fine is they didn’t put in anything to replace it.” And his words are still true to this day.
I feel that after the trait change and the open beta weekends, the jump height was lowered. Am I just imagining this? It seems we used to have a higher jump.
They can demand all they want, you are not obligated to give into those demands whatsoever. If people like that annoy you, take the suggestions of other posters here and /block him and move on. And like I said, just think of his wailing as free advertising and prepare for a possible influx of new customers.
Also, I said there was nothing he could do to shut you down, but that’s not actually true: He COULD tell people you are scamming/are a scammer, but in that case, since it’s a blatant lie (I assume you are selling a legit runs and not scamming people), you might be able to report him for slander or something. idk if anet would do anything about it though.
/rude is all I would ever need.
I paid $60 3 years ago to be on Blackgate. Money well spent despite the fact we get our butts handed to us by Jade Quarry almost every week.
My impression is that they mean that they don’t want to implement a tool where you just queue up and then instantly get dropped into the raid once nine other people are found. I think they don’t want to add such a function since it just further encourages people to not socialize in an MMO.
That’s a matchmaking LFG tool and that feature doesn’t even exist for current dungeons and fractals. So you can bet your bottom it won’t exist for raids.
They will probably just add a new tab under the current LFG window titled “raids”.

This is a bit old a slightly dated but still mostly accurate in terms of how classes operate in the game overall. Individual’s mileage may vary.

Here’s a thought.
What if druid ISN’T the new elite spec for ranger?
While they did say that Rangers would have a druid spec during the reveal at that PAX or whatever it was, it wasn’t set in stone, and things can change before a release as anet may have decided to go in a different direction. Since they have yet to officially announce the elite spec for rangers, who’s to say Druid is the guarantee?
After all, everybody assumed Thief would get a rifle and some kind of ‘sniper’ spekittenil they dropped that daredevil whammy on the community.
What if the Ranger spec is that fiery hammer wielding chap (From that release video)? what if it’s something else entirely?
Thoughts?
(I put this on the ranger forum too, as I’m unsure if this thread applies to the ranger forum or the HoT forum)

You know what would make the druid something to behold? If pets were turned into spirit versions that only appeared when you attack a with a pet attack or action. Basically removing the auto attack from pets and baking it into the ranger itself. That would solve one issue, but as Random said, there would still be the fact that Rangers offer nothing to a group.
Heck, anet could significantly increase the value of both engineers and rangers if they just turned several skills into combo fields.
Will there be a discount for heart of thorns

Healix actually has is right: by buying HoT now, you will actually save money in the long run by being able to unlock LWS for free as is comes out simply by loggin in. (I’m thinking you’ll have to own HoT for this to happen since LW stuff will all be tied to the new area for a while). also, if you buy a higher tier version of HoT, you’ll get a a set of gems at a discounted price, which is something as anet has never before offered a discount on gems.
Basically what I’m saying is, buy HoT now and you’ll be able to circumvent a lot of hidden costs that might arise for you later down the line.
There’s little point. I suspect Raids will get abandoned just like dungeons and fractals did. If anet put in some time and effort into creating a matchmaking LFG system for the game, I can guarantee dungeons and fractals would see much, much more activity and raids would actually be something worthwhile (if a matchmaking LFG was implemented for those too).
As it currently stands, if they add more dynamic events like we’ve seen in The Silverwastes, the majority of people will defer to doing those for gear farming and simple fun as they are highly repeatable and individuals and groups can jump in and out at any time however they please.
But this is just my speculation based on anets previous history with instanced group content.
(yes, I’m aware that dungeons and fractals do get run, and players do play them, but it is a very small portion of the community that does so. Raids won’t be much different I imagine, and anet isn’t going to cater to a tiny portion of the community that likely isn’t paying their bills).
All raids will be is what we already have for open world bosses but in a slightly more controlled environment, i.e. instanced.
But don’t get your hopes too high. they will add a few in the coming months then abandon them like all the other instanced PvE group content.
Look at it this way Angel, by showing people what you are doing, he is effectively giving you free advertising. You just might get a lot more business!
People who want what you are offering and are willing to pay, will pay. those who don’t want to pay, won’t get your service.
There’s nothing he can do to shut you down so don’t worry about it.
So? Did you try the tempest spec for elemental? With a burning condition focus build, the damage they do is outlandish and if remains will likely be the meta for the class. So thief will have a buddy.
Those specs will be available October 23.
Proper balancing might have gotten in the way of that. But in general, I agree. GW2 should have had a multi-class function of combining two classes. But again, it’s most likely a balancing issue. (not that that really matters, at least 2 classes in this game are all but useless outside solo play.)
I got my 25k rapid fires in group settings, not solo (should have mentioned that). So I ended up having full might stacks with fury and nearly if not full vul stacks on target(s) (Was amazing with piercing shots and clipped several targets!) and nearly every hit of rapid fire was a crit. It was from [soft] maximizing. (Again, I should have mentioned that).

I’m not sure I’ll ever understand the mentality of people feeling entitled to a quality product for free. You paid $10 for the base game (With all updates and patches included free sans LWs2). That’s a pretty amazing deal and the fact that you bought the game puts you a step up (A big step) from f2p players in terms of your accessibility.
If you stay with the game, you will find that measly chump change of $10 will go a long, long way.
Warhorns have to sound like this.
I hope daredevil will make thief more enjoyable for me.
I hope tempest doesn’t get nerfed (That’s a pipe dream and I know it. a nerf is all but guaranteed.)
I hope the druid actually does something for Ranger. I hope they introduce two handed axes, because my warrior just isn’t man enough with out one.
Druid will be staff ele in water attunement and a pet. Calling it now.
And part of the reason anet doesn’t do anything with ranger is because they get played anyway, despite the fact that they are a lackluster class. Sure, I like bows, so Ranger would be ideal right? No. I can make better, higher performing builds with warrior and thief. (and so I do).
Yeah, Rangers were in a good place when you could run a longbow build that hammered out 25k dmg rapid fires, but since the trait overhaul in preparation to HoT, that’s no longer possible so folks are going back to the older, less effective builds.
I simply recommend abandoning your Ranger. A thief can sate your shortbow cravings and warrior for your longbow ones, which ever you prefer. They actually make for better “Ranger” archetypes anyway plus you don’t have to deal with pesky quite-possibly-braindead pets.

For the past 7 months we have only got outfits.
7 Months 0.0
I would fully accept this fact if they allowed you to transmute armor from any class weight. Lore can suck it, and clipping can suck it too because a lot of armor in the same weight class already clips.
I actually like the outfit. It makes my Thief feel especially meaty. And yes, my Warrior wears a frilly dress.
So suck on that, conventional fantasy standards and stereotypes!
Unless you are extremely cheap and stingy, I have no doubt in my mind you have thrown away more than $60 in the past 3 years on frivolous garbage.
I almost never see anyone looking to do dungeons or fractals. After a month or two, I wonder if anyone will even care about raids anymore.
As far as it goes, I played in the Beta and the only class that got a direct upgrade from going into an elite spec was Necro -> Reaper. Guardian only got a small utility buff, mesmer player decently but about the same level of power as the base class, and ele is kinda lower powered by taking shouts and warhorn except in zerg situations.
if things follow the pattern, Druid will be a different playstyle, but not one that’s truly better than the base ranger.
Actually, Reaper was a bit underwhelming. The class I thought was killing it was the Ele. I made a Condition build ele wielding a staff and spec’d into fire and tempest and was literately killing mobs and players in seconds. I dare say it’s OP.
The “Elite Specializations” are nothing more than a new additional trait line for your class. It’s just that these trait lines change how your class functions a bit more on a fundamental level by changing what your class mechanic does. To activate the elite spec, put it in one of your trait slots.
Basically, Your ranger will still be a ranger, the “Druid” part is actually just a new trait line that you can swap in and out of at your leisure.
As for what the Druid line does, I have no idea, it wasn’t released with the recent beta event, so nobody has tried it out.
I have to agree. During my 3 year tenure in the world of GW2 I can honestly say the only music I actually remember is the when they promo’d SAB in the rad 8 bit style. To this day the only thing that has stuck in my head is the very opening of character select scene. Overall, the music in GW2 has been incredibly bland and unmemorable.
Today when I opened up my character screen, I sat at it for a good hour just listening over and over again to the new theme. The music introduced in HoT is leagues above the original score. Hopefully this isn’t just a fluke or a one time thing, because a game of epic proportions like GW2 needs a musical score to match.
