For a truly diabolical April fools joke, they should say they will do something (or not do something)that is seemingly absurd and everyone will be like “Ah ha!!! nice one! good April fools joke guys. oh you! Such rascally scamps!”

and then actually go through with it.

If they had originally announced that Tengu was coming as a playable race to HoT, then on April fools announce it was canceled and then actually cancel it… Anet would become my personal heroes for the rest of my life because that would be one sadistically hilarious prank.

Specializations at 80, or sooner?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: myself.2143

myself.2143

Well, they haven’t said specifically when you get your spec, but it seemed to be implied that you get it before 80. The reasoning is, you start to get traits at 30 and at 80 you will get mysteries, so it’s assumed spec will come in between that somewhere (as spec is supposed to change the class mechanics in a significant way, not just add a new weapon for you, so getting it at 80 seems kind of weird). But like i said, Anet has not yet specifically said when it happens, so it’s anyone’s guess really.

Comparing Dual Weapons to Two-Handed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: myself.2143

myself.2143

oh boy… that’s a tough one. Each weapon type for the classes that can wield them have their own set of abilities, which are more or less effective depending on what those abilities do and what they are good for.

But for actual stat distribution, at level 80 which exotics, the 2 handed weapon (Let’s say 2hsword) has one or two more points in a particular stat than dual wielding (Let’s say 2 axes).

But like I said, the actual weapon abilities are more important than the stats on them: the stats are just a means to an end, the weapon abilities being that end.

You can make a ticket and see what becomes of it… but probably nothing will. The legacy armors that are in the package include the armor skins of Primeval, Krytan, and Profane-all of which are still in the gem store. These armor skins were the first to be introduced in the Gem Store when the game was released.

I would also note to you that those particular skins are not all that and a bag of potato chips. You aren’t really missing out.

Oh, for the love of the six gods yes!

It’s great that they at least try to add new skins in the cash shop, but those are few and far between, not to mention there is certain lack of variety for each armor class. Medium is almost all trenchcoats? really???

I’d would love to see many more skins for each, I would also really reaaaaaaally like to be able to wardrobe different armor classes for any character. (heavy wearing light for example). Customization is better the more customizable it is. there is no reason not to be able to wardrobe armor you can’t wear as a stat item.

I’ve been thinking Norn. Norn look great in heavy and I don’t have a Norn heavy yet as my warrior is Asura (snickers*) and my Guardian is Sylvari.

I’m particularly excited about the Revenant because in the video it looked like Rytlock was using a staff as a melee weapon! I find Bo Staff Melee fighting to be cool as fly, though what i really wanted was for the thief to get a staff and become a martial artist type of specialization. But the rev will just have to do for now.

And before anybody complains that staves are for wizards or exclusive for magic or whatever, (I’m sure there are some out there who think that) keep in mind that mesmers shoot magical lazer beams out of their greatswords.

Best Class for me? Reccomendations please!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: myself.2143

myself.2143

Well, I don’t know. I guess I’m speaking from personal experience. I played a ranger for a long time and it’s skill cap fluctuated depending on what you were doing, and it seemed like in higher level areas and high level content using it was more complicated and difficult than when he was leveling up or just running about doing DEs.

I play a thief now and I feel in more ways it’s easier to play than a ranger. With my ranger, much of my damage was tied to my pet, even if I didn’t have significant investment in the BM trait line, but the pet was ridiculously squishy, so when he died, not only did I suffer a dps loss, I also gained an incoming damage increase since the mobs were now fully devoted to chewing off my face.

With the thief, I do so much damage the mobs have very little time to react or do any significant damage to me, and when things do get perilous, I have so many defensive and evasive maneuvers at my disposal it almost makes feel sorry for the mobs ineptitude at striking or doing any meaningful damage to me.

But you know what? To each their own. You like archers, Lone Gamer? Play a Ranger; they are the most archeriest archers in GW2. Who knows, you might rock peoples socks off with it.

Oh, I would also mention that the combat in this game doesn’t favor range over melee like most other MMOs do. GW2 has a risk vs reward combat system which basically makes melee weapons do much more damage than ranged weapon in most cases with a few exceptions.

That being said, I still recommend the warrior for you. (even though the thief is the class that can kill thing the fastest.)

Probably ranger if you want an archer-y class. But be warned, Rangers have a higher skill cap later down the road and if you “couldn’t kill crap” with a thief only up to level 7 you may find a ranger is far too difficult to play.

You may not like generic warrior class, but I’d have to say a warrior might fit you better. (they can use a longbow and a rifle)

This should not affect anything else with your account. You will still log in to the game and forums with the email address registered and the same password. It should not affect your gems in your account or anything else tied to your account.

And what about gems? will this effect my current gem balance or future purchases?

For PvE, if that’s what you are asking, the consensus for greatest dps involves GS+Hammer rotating (for level cap dungeons). You use the GS #2-5 skills, then switch to Hammer for #1 auto attack for the duration of your swap CD. Of course, you need to have the correct traits and gear set up to maximize this. There are alternatives, especially for specific fights, but for general meta usage, both 2 handers will net you the most dps most of the time.

If we are talking about open world dynamic events. GS for bosses, staff for everything else. The same can be said for leveling, though just as many like using sword/x+whatever. As said previously, sword/x+GS gives you a lot of mobility, which can be useful for leveling up as it gets you across maps much faster and to dynamic events and xp nodes quicker (the fastest way to level up after crafting is to find pois, waypoints, vistas, skills challenges and hearts, all while doing the DEs you come across along the way and gathering resource nodes.) which is a favored method for alt levelers.

PvP and WvW are two entirely different monsters all together, neither of which I bother with on my Guardian.

Calling it now; Point of No Return

in Living World

Posted by: myself.2143

Hmm, idk but I’ll give it try.

While playing through the personal story and getting a whiff of the game world’s lore, I came under the impression that the Pale Tree started spawning Sylvari specifically to fight against Zhaitan, (maybe that’s just coincidence, but dang it is quite a convenient one!) as Sylvari are completely immune to the Dragons’ undead corruption. To reinforce this idea, the firstborn Trahearne’s Wyld Hunt was the study of Orr, the resurfaced city of the dead under Zhaitan’s control, and to gain immense knowledge to use against the dragon, and purify the land (which pretty much everyone agreed was an impossible task). Then later on, 25 years later to be exact, you (we the players, if you happen to choose Sylvari) are born with the Wyld Hunt to fight and destroy Zhaitan. And as we find out, Trahearne and you play extremely important part and eventually Zhaitan is defeated, a shocking but marvelous victory which let’s all of Tyria know that the Dragons can be defeated.

So this leaves the a theory about Mordremoth: if he can control plant life and corrupt it and/or make it sentient, is it not possible that he has adapted after Zhaitan’s defeat and if there is a secondary Pale Tree, it hasn’t fallen under the control of Mordremoth in an effort to counter the Sylvari? Furthermore, this could also be where the phenomenon of “The Nightmare” (the anti-thesis of The Dream) could gain the opportunity to grow and blossom?

Which in turn could support where Malyck comes from, leaving the second pale tree, or even being a creation of Mordremoth himself, and why the Nightmare Court was so interested in him and Caithe’s reaction to his pod during the personal story quest. (I also feel that “The Nightmare” is a product of Mordremoth’s influence and corruption toward plant life and the resulting effect it has when applied to Sylvari)

However, these are just theories and conjecture from my perspective.

Rangers are the survivalist tanky types of the Adventurer medium armor classes. They’ve been that way since the game began. There are very old videos showcasing rangers roaming the crap out of groups of players in WvW.

Rangers are kitten poor in dungeons because almost all the rangers wanna be archers and neglect the class’s true strengths.

I used to joke with guild mates that I could fight for days with my ranger because he was nearly un-killable. The class is still like that. It’s just the way it was built.

Necromancers are in the same boat (being tanky and hard to kill), unfortunately for them, they are worse off because there is a stacking cap on conditions and Necros focus on dealing most of their damage with conditions, gimping the class in PvE.

“Balancing” in an MMO is little more than a pipedream.
