In regard to the Asura Warrior and Norn warrior discussion here:
Norn are certainly big and strong and powerful… But I’ve yet to see a single one of them perform a highly agile and acrobatic ninja flip when they dodge.
Hey thanks! Much obliged!
Hey Everybody!
I came back recently and noticed a lot of the forum topics are archived, including the race ones. Can anyone tell me why this happened or link me a post that explains it? I’d appreciate it!
Why not?
This is why not…
OMFG… It took me a second but that is kitten hilarious! Made my day!
Do you mean a shield in his/her right hand, like a sword or mace?
Or do you mean a shield as an actual offensive weapon that uses attacks instead of defensive skills.
Because I could totally see a Guardian (or even a warrior) using “shield bash” a 425 range attack with 15-20 sec CD and provides a couple seconds of protection boon.
That’s the catch22 of gambling and RNG.
…Just …..one ……..more!
aaaaaand nothing.
This sounds like fun.
Pretty much nailed it.
Despite the all the good and bad points made by both yay and nay sayers, I still feel the idea of this class is just a push for a “death knight”.
Simply, if a new soldier is released, it would have to be an original idea in terms of existing class themes and mechanics.
Hot as in, if you get burned, anet is not liable.
Make existing weapons for classes more viable in general. Every class has more than one weapon/weapon combo that is rarely used, if used at all, because there is a better option.
When it first came out as an April fools joke, people’s heads exploded.
During it’s second coming, folks gorged themselves on it like crack heads with an 8 ball.
It’s third appearance will usher in the cult of 8bit and fun will become mandatory.
Quaggan of course!!!!
Naw, it was just the laurels reward on the last row I think. As long as it doesn’t impede my progress for recieving tomorrows login chest (the next chest on the list I mean.) I don’t really mind.
As long as I don’t kitten up on the 28th day….
Nice try. Won’t happen. We already have the full beat em up plate wearer and the magical plate wearer. We also already have a death themed class.
Any 3rd soldier class that comes along, which will probably be never, will have to be original in theme, mechanics, and style. a “death knight” simply doesn’t fit that bill.
Regarding the bold:
We have two elemental themed classes: ranger and elementalist
We have two deception themed classes: thieves and mesmers
We have two non-magical themed classes: warrior and engineerSo why can’t we have two dark themed classes?
Regarding the underlined:
We have three adventurer, we have three scholar, so why can’t we have three soldier? All three scholars are the “magical lightweight” and rangers and thieves are both agile fighters that mix tools and magic, so why can’t there be more than one magical plate wearer? You’re saying “we can’t have more than one of this very general description for multiple classes!” but we already do, on multiple accounts.
In fact, the only thing we’re lacking multiple of is a dark themed and a light themed profession – but we have a light heavy, so a second guardian makes little sense. A dark heavy, however, can make sense.
Well, you’re not wrong there. But the class that is being suggested is basically a necromancer in plate, which is what I’m trying to say here.
Taking your example, the Mesmer and Thief, (the two class that have the closest similarity in arbitrary themes) yes they both have this deception as part of their portfolio, but they are executed in very different and unique ways. The Mesmer uses illusions to confuse their foe while the thief stealths to disappear. Both can misdirect, but how they do it is different from both a style and mechanic point of view.
I thought I was being clear but I guess not. I’m personally not opposed to a DARK themed soldier class, but a DEATH themed one won’t work because it’s already being done. And a death themed class is basically what the OP is suggesting. (I mean, even the mechanic is basically the necromancers except it can choose more than one form to take. The OP seems to just really really want a “death Knight” style class.)
edit: I would also like to add that if the Thief is played like an assassin, it could qualify as a dark themed class, but that’s being really nit picky.

“Alcoholic”.
Classic, straight to the point, no room for interpretation.
I dunno, I like the fact it’s awfully representative of alcohol consumption.
A large money sink for no apparent reason with absolutely no reward that may leave some with regrets.

Poor Wildstar. A game that’s stuck in the past and doomed with no future.
Yeah, they made my head start baseball cap into a universal head slot skin, why didn’t they do it for other town clothes?
I rather they just rework some of the existing weapon abilities so they are more viable (like warrior) and allow them to be customized somewhat.
I’ve seen it for “League of Angels” a Chinese game that uses every underhanded and illegal tactic there is to advertise their “game”. I haven’t seen it for anything else though.
Why would you want to open it on a different character?
Because I was deleting that character, and I only clicked the box accidentally.
When you mistake a silver portrait for a bronze one.
Watching a world boss die a fraction of a second before you get in range.
Leveling a class to 80 only to deeply regret your choice of race.
Being unable to link poi/way points during daily events due to many many commander tags.
Dying often because you can’t move through characters in combat only to realize it’s optional.
Interesting. A “new class” thread pops up, and a gameplay programmer responds with how he’d play it. Combine this with the PAX announcement speculation, and what do you get?
A big bag of nothing. Because speculation is just that: nothing.
As the saying I heard in Rata Sum goes, “Don’t count your Proto-element powered mechano chickens before they hop off the assembly line.”
Hello everybody!
Is there a way to bring up the login reward screen? The only time it seems to come up is when I click on the chest.
I’m going to assume the answer is no for now, as I logged in with one character, accidentally clicked the blue chest but chose “save it for later” so I could open it on different toon and as it turns out, you aren’t allowed to open it on a different toon once you click the chest. I haven’t found any info via google.
And no, I cannot open the login chest on the toon I accidentally click it on because I was cleaning house and deleted that toon.
No new race is good enough unless it’s and Asura/Charr halfbreed.
Just to prove I’m not pulling anyone’s leg, here’s a screen shot and to the left you can plainly see a char with the Teq living world wings. not to mention the twilight abor update stuff
Have they fixed this yet? I’m getting this same error on my PC.
Yep, confirmed. Moto definitely has some insecurities with Asuran height. When I left SAB with my Asura she was back to normal size, about a quarter the height of a full height Norn (she was a little over half their height inside SAB!).
Perhaps heights were equalized to adjust to all the jumping inside SAB worlds?
I think it’s pretty good overall. w2 could have been designed better, though. One giant jump puzzle was a bit excessive.
lol…. “kitten” slaps…
I think I like that better actually.
Funny how the “pimp hand” kitten slaps w2 into triviality.
Pimp hand+eagle=easy w2 clear
I took my Asura into SAB and it seems like she’s a little bit bigger while inside. I stood her next to some Sylvari and Humans and she was almost as tall as them. I thought, “oh, they must have chosen the short end of the height slider.”
nope.
I brought in my Sylvari and saw the same thing: Asura nearly as tall as he was. I put both my Asura and Sylvari at max height when I made them.
What happened to my slingshot and whip? I WAS INDIANA JONES, DAMMIT!!!!!1!!1!!
Maybe this has already been said, but just because the name has the word “range” in it, doesn’t mean it’s exclusive to ranged attacks.
As someone who got their start in D&D decades ago, to me, rangers are more of a naturalist who are at home in the wilderness and have a kinship to the wild. As far as a profession goes, Rangers could wield either the bow or a dual wield a sword and dagger with great proficiency. (in D&D anyway.)
I think a lot of MMO players today are too conformed into thinking that the class that exclusively does non-magical range dmg is the class that uses the bow.
If anything, the non-magical ranged exclusive profession of GW2 is the engineer, as the closest thing to melee they can get is the flamethrower, and that is still ranged, albeit, short.
Toting a rifle or a pair of pistols would be cool as a Ranger, but I believe most people see “ranger” and automatically think ranged attacks.
As someone who got his rpg start in the good ol’ days of D&D, to me, Rangers are not about ranged weaponry, they are naturalistic scouts and slayers that are at home in the wilderness and use said environment to their advantage by stalking and even calling animals to their aid and could wield a bow or a sword with equal prowess.
I’m not saying I know Anet’s philosophy in this case, but rifles and pistols seem to be more technology based weapons and the ranger, in GW2 anyway, are a pretty non tech profession.
Huh, that would actually make Ranger LB pretty good as an all purpose weapon. I am going to +1 your post.
The idea behind sword #2 attack is to be able to move away from a big attack, miss getting hit, then moving back in to fight quickly. It may not be a real evade dodge, but you can’t get hit if your not in range of the attack.
As for #1 attack (AA), I believe the intent it to turn off the auto attack function so each consecutive attack can be used strategically. After all, one of those attacks is a gap closer.
More importantly, when expansions and new content are released that have ore of a higher grade than Orichalcum that require picks better than Orichalcum picks, will this perm pick scale up to be able to mine it? That’s what I would like to know.
1. Ready for a fight. I even have a lovely admirer! (not the weirdo on the snack cart)
2. Scouting pirates. Naughty, naughty pirates. The chest? You just never mind about the chest.

Frequently Forced to Hard Reset 5-10 Minutes Into Game
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: myself.2143
Similar problem here. Game just freezes with a buzzing sound and must hard reset.
I haven’t tried anything yet since I’m too compustupid too know what I’m doing which is why I came here first before working on solutions to see if anyone else was having a problem like this.
my specs are-
dell xps 8300
gtx 550ti
intel i5-2320
6gb RAM
…
that’s all I know for specs : \
however, I also experience a flashing light and beeps and my system won’t boot up and found out that part is a issue with ram or something…
since others have this freezing buzz thing going on I’m not sure increasing my RAM would be of much use. So I guess we’ll see.
As the name states, this is a suggestion and not a question. I’m sorry about that but I feel this needs to be said on behalf of people like myslef who pre-purchased the game in a specific way.
In the future (for expansions I suppose) could it be possible to extend grace periods to take in consideration folks who buy from online retailers, like Amazon.com for example, so that they won’t have their gameplay interupted?
Yes, I know it’s far more efficient to buy directly as a digital download, however, I’m a bit old fashioned and like to feel a physical copy in my hands (Think of it as a victorious trophy), but due to my shipping choice the game would arrive days after the grace peroid ended. I chose a free shipping method and in this economy, saving a few dollars via amazon’s super saver shipping was an obvious choice.
I’m sure I’m not the only person in the entirety of GW2 commuity members who have bought the game by these means and had this problem.
No, I did not have my gameplay interupted for very long and I did have other things to do, so, I was able to wait patiently. But I can see how it could be a hinderance to some.
So please, take this into consideration in the future. Thank you for reading.
