The new AC does one thing right:
- More variety with boss mechanics. Some need refinement but making boss battles unique is a good thing. Fighting colossus does not feel like a slight variation on the howler king now.
Sadly for one step forward it does 2 backward:
- CC spam. AC used to have one of the few meaningful knock-down of the game. Gravelings would at leap you and you better use your stun break or get help or you would down. Now it’s a bouncing ball simulator, constant spam of knock-back, fear, knock-down, etc. You just watch your char bouncing around until you can finally lands 2 hits before bouncing more.
- Artificial length. Evasion, weakness and more hp. Make sure everything take longer to kill.
Complete overhaul focused on fun? not really. Encouraging players to skip more content by making the non rewarding part even more annoying? check.
From my experience and understanding it doesn’t exactly works as you describe. Here is what I know.
Rewards: per character, 20 token per path completion. Extra 40 tokens for the first completion of the day. Money, experience and karma never change and scale with level.
Diminishing Returns: per account, affects all rewards and ignore daily reset.
- Repeat. Completing the same path twice or more in a row halves the reward. Stacks in intensity. Resets when doing a different path.
- Spam. Completing many paths within a short time frame (starts hitting at something like 4-5 paths in 2h). Stacks in intensity and duration: during the halloween event some people ran the MK dungeon so much they got awarded 6 tokens 8 hours or so later. Resets with time.
- Speed. Completing a single path under a given time supposedly triggers reduced rewards. I haven’t actually met this DR and don’t think you can trigger it unless exploiting (and yes I did CoF1 in less than 12min, etc). It might be set to different values for each dungeon or to something unatainable without exploits (like less than 5 minutes).
I’d love to know if anyone has more precisions or a contradicting example.
My advice: check a few guides and run the dungeon with someone who knows it. As others said CoE is one of the best designed and most fun dungeon available (even the destroyer has a good base idea, just needs some tweaking). Alpha is also one of the best boss in game with a wide range of abilities requiring position awarness, knowledge of their mechanics and teamwork.
@BrunoBRS: TA and SE would like a word with you. Seriously CoE is full of waypoint, the only one a tiny bit far is the path 2 final alpha, but since you shouldn’t die anyway doesn’t really matter.
Lupicus is luck based. If he doesn’t randomly reset with 4 people still in the room or hit you outside the aoe circles then consider yourself lucky.
Detail: Leurent as boss is forward forward not forward up.
Those knights are the hardest ennemies in TA, including all bosses, which is surprising considering they’re only silver “trash”.
Tried it with a group of 80 full exotic. Don’t bother if you don’t have a pure DPS party (something like 5 zerk mesmers) or a lot of stealth to avoid the waves.
Report the issue with the exact time (and timezone) even if you do not have the chat, Anet does.
GW1 didn’t have this problem because you could not change party at all once in an instance. One persone griefing or leaving midway? you’re out of luck. Saying party system is bad because of some people’s abuses is like saying chat should not exist because some people insult you through it.
From forum rules:
Do not engage in personal attacks against forum members or in character assassination. Posts that attack another member, that single out a player for ridicule, or that accuse someone of inappropriate in-game actions will be removed without notice. In-game violations should be reported directly to our Support Team. If you believe that using the support system did not result in a sufficient or timely response, you may post your concern in the Support section of the forums.
Just trying to save you a thread deletion
I don’t really see a problem with the current system, it has lots of valid uses and I see no point in making it more complicated when 4/5 could be abused as well. I (only) pug and never had a problem with it given some precautions (screen the group). Completed my dungeon master title as well. I agree that party chat being wiped is annoying and serve no purpose though.
Finally, don’t start a witch hunt on the forums. Firstly it is against the rules, second we only have your part of the story, and last we can’t help you in any way. Instead report them to the support, last I heard punishment for that kind of behaviour was a 5 day ban.

> Some of us are working on legendaries, so extra tokens are used for dropping exotic dungeon reward weapons into the forge for a chance at a precursor; at its worst, it turns into an exotic that you can sell for a gold or higher in the TP.
… and I never thought of that. Well I know where the next batch of CoF token is going now.
Fun and friends need the tokens. I’ve had up to 1.5k tokens of some dungeons in stock, just rolled an alt and geared it or salvaged for ectos. It’s also decent money if you don’t die every mob.
For this you need a leader which will ensure everyone is ready and make a short countdown. You can also use one of the following tactic to make your job way easier:
- (easymode) have some ash legion spy kits, go to the torch, use it and wait for a countdown. You’re invisible, this is brainless.
- kill 2/3 mobs, then retreat/use kit/stealth in order to break aggro on the third (or tank it). Have everyone regen and recharge skills, then go in, kill mob asap and wait for countdown.
Done this path several times with PUGs, no voice chat, just agreeing on a few codes beforehand (r = ready, activate on 1) and it usually works on the first or 2nd try.
You might be interested in the damage wiki page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damage . You might also want to know that barbed precision applies 1 stack of bleed for 1 second. You can test all that in PvP area against the npc and see how much direct damage you lose vs how much crit you gain by stacking precision.
Midnight UTC (as for local time, it depends on where you are).
Has nothing to do with mob being yellow/green/etc, rather it comes from downleveling formula being messed up. See bug thread for details: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Life-Stealing-Has-the-opposite-effect-on-Enemies/first#post486854
Same time as daily achievments (so fixed time), but you cannot do it again straight away or you’d get 30 tokens due to DR. Details on DR: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Completeing-same-paths-on-different-characters/first#post522855
It’s quite simple really. Story rewards aren’t great and story isn’t needed to enter explorable (it is only needed to start it). So most people do explorable without actually having done story.
Now the solutions. If you care about the lore and therefore want to experience story before explorable (and watch cutscenes in both), then your best bet are guildies or friends. If you do not care about the lore, just join random explorable groups. At some point no one will have story, which result in the group either disbanding or completing story.
P.S. You can of course also try to find a proper story group, but it might take a while.
Completed my dungeon master title a few days ago and here are some things I learned along the way. Sorry if some are widely known, mostly for beginners!
- Any dungeon. Ash Legion Spy Kit is a lifesaver. For 28 karma, what are you waiting?
- Any dungeon. When a “death puzzle” is involved you can simply remove your armor to avoid unecessary repair bill.
- Any dungeon. If you (or someone from your team) pull a monster, do not hit it until it is far from its group. The first hit will lure it, any more will aggro its allies (tip: disable auto attack or swap to melee after landing first hit).
- Several dungeons. If a boss has turrets buffing it, a ranged character can stand behind one to hit both turret and boss, free DPS gain!
- Several dungeons. You can often rally on various things. If you’re down do not hit the boss, hit the weaklings which will die in a few hits. Blossoms in TA, Tendrils in CoE, Crystals in CoF, etc (tip: use esc to cancel your attack and pick a better target).
- CM: path3, if you blow all artifacts the door will open, letting you lure Mr Knockdownrifle outside for a much easier fight.
- CoF: path 1, the effigy respawn so no point killing it. But is also buffs the boss if close to it, so keep them appart.
- CoE: the lasers have a rather simple pattern. Wait for them to be right in front of you. When half disapear jump twice. Then jump as they move. No need to side step and other weird theories I heard around.
- Arah: a mesmer with portal can make a path from the initial WP to lupicus (drop from the ledge in the room where spiders spawn). Getting back in the fight take less than 30s like that.
Anyone else has some tips to share?
From my testings:
Daily bonus is per character per day. You get 60 token the first time you run a path on any character. DR kicks in if you run the same path twice within a limited time (something like 2h possibly) and halves the reward. DR is account bound and ignore daily reset.
Few examples assuming 2 characters A and B.
- You run A1 =60tokens. Immediatly after you run A1 again =10tokens.
- You run A1 =60tokens. Later you run A1 again =20tokens.
- You run A1 =60tokens. Day reset right after and you run A1 again =30tokens.
- You run A1 =60tokens. Immediatly after you run B1 = 30tokens.
- You run A1 =60tokens. Later you run B1 = 60tokens.
(As posted on reddit) The problem lies somewhere with downleveling.
| Player lvl | Monster lvl | Vampiric | V. Rituals |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 2 | 2 | 10 |
| 8 | 6 | 2 | 10 |
| 11 | 8 | 2 | 10 |
| 14 | 11 | 2 | 10 |
| 16 | 15 | 2 | 10 |
| 19 | 18 | 2 | 9 |
| 21 | 20 | 1 | 9 |
| 23 | 20 | 1 | 8 |
| 27 | 26 | 0? | 7 |
| 31 | 30 | 1 | 6 |
| 34 | 33 | 1 | 5 |
| 47 | 45 | 5 | 0? |
| 51 | 50 | 7 | 2 |
| 80 | 80 | 33 | 21 |
Notes:
- Bold means healing, normal means damage.
- Tested with a lvl 80 fully exotic necro.
- Vampiric vs Vampiric Rituals: vampiric also triggers when hitting normally, letting you know which is which.
- The heal doesn’t seem to go higher than 12/pulse which is reached around level 15.
- Vampiric Rituals is much more buggy, starting to heal monsters around level 45 and healing for up to 10 (which at level 2 is something like 15% of a monster’s health).
- This bug doesn’t affect only wells, but since vampiric’s heal is low (2 at most) and normal attacks deal much higher damages it is barely noticeable.
I used to res anyone anytime but I stopped now and only res friends/guildies. Here is why:
- At 80 the reward is rather useless and insignificant.
- I don’t get any contribution in events for doing so.
- Outside events people often port to the nearest WP before I’m done.
- Rarely get any thanks or recognition… get downed whilst getting someone up? They happily run away ditching you there.
- People being downed are often in that state by their own fault. Typical example: the shaman boss in the norn area. He does this short range 1hit-ko aoe, you res someone and they just stand there to take the next one head on.
All in one, even with better rewards I think I’d stick to helping people I know will benefit from it and be grateful about it.
I think the final boss of path 1 in Citadel of Flame, Legendary Searing Effigy, is currently bugged.
I came to this conclusion after trying to kill it many times, when things were too messy my group would just retreat, let everything reset and try again. Now this is what I observed:
- most of the time, the boss will directly spawn crystals (about 5-10) and then keep spawning them at a fast rate.
- sometime, the boss will just constantly spawn crystals, even while using other skills and not doing his crawl animation. If this happen he would almost instantly get 25 tack of regen and we would just die of the chain knock down.
- sometime, the boss would not spawn any crystal until about 75% health. At which point he would start spawning them in one of the above fashion.
- rarely, the boss would not spawn any crystal until 25% health. At which point he would start spawning them in one of the above fashion.
- rarely, the fight works as it might be intended. Boss spawns crystals at 75% and 25% hp. The ones spawned at 25% also give him might buff.
I’ve experimented this over two different runs, after the 25th update. My group was able to kill it when the last case happened. I believe this is a bug, due to the randomness and huge difference of difficulty between the mechanics.
Mark of evasion:
- the mark of blood you leave when using it triggers where you finish your dodge (tooltip only says “when you dodge”)
- the mark of blood you leave doesn’t last as long as the normal one (5s vs 20 or so).
Also, unsure whether it’s a bug or not: when dodging (with mark of evasion enabled) you can get 2 marks of blood up. However if you recast the staff one it remove the previous one.
To be clear I’m not saying they’re too slow to update or roll out fixes, rather that I’d love to know what is going on. Of course 4 days would be nothing in a stable game with updates every now and then, but given the pace at which events currently unfold for GW2 I think it is a long time.
At first when the game launched no information was to be found on what was happening. Then CM team started posting status update mostly through social media (twitter, facebook, reddit). Then we finally got some proper up-to-date information through gw2’s own website (and forum/wiki).
But, since last weekend, nothing. Did we step back to the start? CM team pretty much deserted reddit, facebook is showing the latest shinies and twitter is an alt of support.guildwars2.com apparently.
So, can we get a status update? An estimate of when next bug fix will be shipped? stuff like that. Or at least an update saying current game status is still the same as of sept. 10.
P.S. Sorry if I missed it, I looked at the news section, gw2’s website, social medias, even dev tracker but couldn’t find anything anywhere.

Mainly made it for WvW, pulling foes down their walls is incredibly fun. But it works in most situation and give great mobility (constant +25% move speed, reduced fall damages) . I use it with a rage sigil and power/pre/crit + power/tough/pre equipment mix.
