I feel like my Engineer is very effective and it’s game play is flawless.
Sounds like the Engineer class is not for you.
The class isn’t bad but it also isn’t particularly good at any given thing. Looking at this has made me wonder if the complexity of the thing is good or bad or even intended. I think at some point analysis paralysis kicks in and choosing a good role to play is becoming harder and harder because everything can be done in a more or less mediocre way.
And I am looking beyond “damage” I’m afraid for those who want to bring up pure damage builds. The amount of technical skill required far outstrips the actual value of the damage because if you’re looking at damage numbers genuinely most don’t differ by but a few thousand. To illustrate my point let’s say we have an Condiiton Engineer who does 32k per second. We pit him against a Condition Necro who happens to only get 29k per second with significantly less effort.
Taking 1m HP as a base you just divide it down to get the number of seconds, right?
1,000,000 / 32,000 is 31.25s
1,000,000 / 29,000 is 34.5s
34.5 – 31.25 = 3.23s?
I can live with not having max DPS (I don’t do world records) at the cost of not getting a hand cramp.
I don’t want to say it because I’ve played the Engineer since the beginning but I haven’t played my Engineer seriously for almost 7 months now? It just isn’t worth the effort. I love the class and the concept of the class and used to love the skill level but eventually it just got out of hand and became more or less outmoded by builds on other classes that are significantly easier to pull off and just about as effective.
I’m not certain but I think a lot of players feel the same way about the Engineer so the question isn’t “how do I save it!” but rather just whether you think it really is going to be meaningful to be an Engineer past this point in development if something major doesn’t change.
lol skirmishers have no problem ganking people trying to get across the map to the battle yet demand everyone act like civilized gentlemen when a duel is in progress…

Stop being delusional. If you’re thinking keeps/towers will go down uncontested you’re the one who have been playing too much EotM.
Duels do nothing for the score, they take one slot from people that might’ve been helping and those “duelers” won’t think twice to gank people running back into the fray cutting reinforcements.

Joke aside, generally I try to get into the open and see how they react, sometimes I ask if I think there is any chance that they mgiht respond. Except if my ally is in a really bad situation I’ll more often than else walk by and ignore them. Still, sometimes you get into annoying situation in which people “duel” in really unadapted places (between Umberlade and the Blue keep? directly in front of SM’s entrance? Seriously guys?).

The current system is great. Downed the commander, spam attacks on people trying to res and throw em into combat, they now can’t res anymore. Working as intended. Wipe the enemy get your dead back up.

When I was rocking healing bombs, it did its job very well. They healed for about 400-450 depending on the type of wep I was using and I would hit for about 1.5k. This made for awesome coverage of healing my zerg without this weird new healer type stuff that apparently is extremely ineffective. A blast finisher that heals? With the way things work at the moment, engis are using less blasts than before just to keep themselves alive.
Next that Medical kit thing is an extremely sad joke. So I put on ALL cleric’s gear to find out that Med Blast only heals for around 100 hp a person… An uplevel bare minimum staff elementalist can heal people with a normal attack for a little over 300 HP! The rest of the med kit is just mediocre or not very effective. Throwing bandages doesnt help me out when Im in WvW and I need to heal 5-10 people all at once. Doesn’t help much in PVP either because of its lack of area of effect.
I’d like to see engi with better healing ability. At the moment, even the turret has lost quite a bit of healing factor due to the fact that defense and vitality absolutely suck at the moment as a stat for all classes. The factor that defense and vitality suck is really effecting my engi’s ability to heal with the things that are currently available. *Defense and vitality do not defend against condition damage while condition damage can build to an out of control level within less than 2 seconds.* This added onto the fact I can’t really spam heals in a crowd as much anymore adds to me questioning the need for having FULL CLERICS gear. I was fine with full clerics and even won quite a few one on one fights with it on, but now its not even good to wear within a zerg or anywhere. The amount of healing points added to healing power is just not enough to condone wearing anything outside of beserker or mega condi armor.
Not asking much, just give us some healing bombs back for now.

We are doing our best to catalog and test the bugs that have either been affecting Engineers or have been around for a really long time. While this thread originally have all the bugs listed out on multiple posts, there were so many bugs that I ran out of room. Additionally, trying to use the formatting offered by the forums was frustrating at times. So, all that said, the lists were transferred to a Google Doc that you can find here:

Could be interesting, but something like that would invalidate the whole point scoring system they have going on…
Who cares about the score? I want a victory, not a high score.
higher team score does net you a victory at the end of the match….

Remember when they did that in GW1? That was a good idea. You REALLY should do it again.
I’m going to call bullarky on this case. My last match of Stronghold was against 2 Engineers -1 defended, 1 attacked- and we wiped the floor with them. How, you ask? Well for one I was a Staff Ele that just AOE nuked the clustered turrets with easy. The other was my teammates, one being a Shatter Mesmer that kept doing the clone thing with Feedback too (self destroying turrets, classic). Our thief kept using the “come here!” Scorpion ability to pull the Engi away from the turrets to do the stabby stab out of harms way.
It is once again an overused complaint against a class that you personally have issues with. But by no means does everyone in the community have issues with this class or build. The choice of going outside your personal build comfort zone to instead find a more creative approach to tackling obstacles is the reason why we have so many utility skills, weapon swaps, and the trait trees.
My questions:
1. Will HoT introduce new WvW abilities at all. If yes, will those augment the new “more defensive” vibe to keep / hold things (like Dolly escorts). If no, will there be any balance changes to old abilities?
2. Will there be an attempt made (e.g. with a new reward structure) to encourage defending and escorting supply lines or structures.
3. The immunity to burning from holding the Fire Shrines seems to be affecting some professions way more than others (e.g. Elementalists and Guardians). Will there be a counterbalance to that by de-buffing other “core conditions” of other professions too (e.g. Poison, Torment, Confusion).
4. Will there be more ways to invest Badges of Honor instead of gold for personal items, upgrades etc.
5. Since map completion in WvW has been removed from World Completion in PvE, will a fully explored WvW map now perhaps give you mastery points?

I dont see why people should be forced, almost 3 years after release, to adapt to a playstyle they do not enjoy. I can totally understand anyone who quits playing WvW because of this.
But you were fine with 4 classes making up the vast majority of compositions in every large group from 20 players up, you were fine with the “balance” that there were usually more guardians in everything from a 20 man GvG group to a zone blob, than there were engies, rangers, thieves & mesmers put together.
How about the times in team/map chat when someone asks what is a good build for ranger or engy, and all they get back are replies like “reroll”,“alt-f4”, etc, did you simply laugh at the engy / ranger or did you actually make posts on this forum decrying the balance in WvW and that these classes needed help?
The lack of objectivity and level of hypocrisy in these threads is hilarious.

To be fair, it’s not like stability in zergs wasn’t an issue prior to the patch. Try do play in a few zerg fights in the next few days and see how it goes. Don’t forget that stab doesn’t stack in intensity anymore, so just saying “pop SYG” in TS will result in an awesome 25 stack, 5s long stability for your zerg.
I’m hoping it’s just an immunity to the burning status which certain fires in the game gives you, and hopefully that the lava will inflict. If not, I don’t think it is a good idea.

Let me start by saying that generic models are great and I always have them on, but there are problems with the implementation that bother me a lot. I have a couple suggestions that hopefully people will agree with, and hopefully the ANet developers will feel are worth the time investment to refine this feature.
1. Add an option to enable Generic Models in Unranked Queue
Currently you can only use them in Ranked Queue, and that’s among the only reasons I play Ranked instead of Unranked. I hate playing Unranked and having to figure out what some Charr in the bulkiest animation-blocking armor is doing.
2. Add an option to enable Generic Models for Allies
I want to know when my ally Guardian is about to cast the full heal in his Tome so I can be in range, but sometimes he’s some minimum size Asura and I can’t tell what he’s doing.
I think if these two options were implemented, it’d be of huge benefit to the PvP community. Thanks!
I am pretty sure the comments are meant to be heared by others. Otherwise some comments such as the ones he makes when you rezz someone, would be pointless.
If it gets changed I want my 500 gems refunded.
