I agree 100% with the original poster- Ele still needs major work. Raw DPS should be much higher when specced full glass cannon. Its unbalanced – end of story.

Normally, I would expect that if you have to make the sacfrifice to wear light armour, the trade off would be higher dps output.

dagger/dagger spec got some love, and the downstate was greatly improved, but I still think we should be able to outdps a theif when specced for full dps.

I have a lvl 26 midget Elementalist.

Where should I go to see the Halloween Content? Is there a specific place to start it, or do I need to talk to a certain NPC first, or read a note in my e-mail to start it. No idea how it works?

But for me, i always have enjoyed the mage n auromancer classes the best. And I also like the complexity of it.

The class certainly isnt broken to the point to where i just wont play it in pve or pvp. it needs a bit of work, and it was really hard for me to get the hang of the class, but i like it.

Love the graphics and spell effects. And I also like grouping and we are great in groups with combo fields, debuffs, buffs, and cc and heals.

Theifs have too much dps. their class is broken making the game unbalanced. we should have more burst than them but we dont. and if we build full out dps, then we lose the survivability and die in like 2 seconds 1v1 against a thief.

Staff auromancer builds where u apply auras to group and heal, cc, buff and clear conditions is the way to go

I say its the theif and warrior classes that are messed up in pvp. They should balance the game by lowering their dps output. Then everyone will stop complaining about getting blown up by 100 bullkittens and kitten seek spammers.

Try this and see if you still think its broken:
Spec traits to full lightning – Grand Master Trait +50% increase damage to knockdown foes, also take +10% damage in air, +25% damage to enemies with low health,
Take full arcane, take the trait that gives buff on attunement swap, and decrease %C D on attunement swap
take runes, sigils etc that increase stun and knockdown time on enemy
Take runes that increase base power and boon duration = increase damage
Take Cantrips grant stacks of might
=Blow Em Up Time

Utility skill needs at least 1 stunbreak, lest the 100 blades bullkittens start messing with u.

Thats a build that works for me. The traits have synergy – you will be putting up tons of might stack and other buffs which increase outgoing damage, and you can start off with knockdown and stuns and then hit with lightning for +50% damage.

Also, staff auromancer where you are support, cc, buf, debuff and heal is a great spec-throw out heals and auras to the whole group makes for an easy win in SPVP

Anyone know how much increased damage output we get from might stacking?

I tried this last night and it seemed to do ok using S/D

Got skill grant 3 stacks of might when using a cantrip
Got the utility skill for gain a buff on attunement swap
Took the increased buff duration for the weapon sigils (or is it increase boon duration)

Full pts in lighting to get the +50% increase dmg to knockdowned , increase damage when in air, and increase damage to enemies with low health
Enough pts in arcane to get the reduced cool down on attunement swap
Signet of earth to immobilize

I forget the runes, but i used 3 different ones, 2 of each set. Focused on increase power, increased buff duration, and increase knockdown time.

So is this build any good for DPS glass cannon spec ele or no? Its lacking a bit in defensive traits, stun breaks and auras. I could use the utility skills for defense but then i lose the combo finishers.

I was trying to make something that had such high burst damage it would kill anything before it kills me.

Ever play RuneKeeper in LOTRO. Now that is a glass cannon spec right there. They were also able to respec as and be a viable main healer. I used to have to heal end game raids on that all the time. Talk about hard.

My thoughts are this: We were made to be a complex class and therefore they cant make it easy on us. The skill ceiling is higher for us than all the other classes. I used to die constantly until I really starting looking into how to play the class. Now I can straight own in PVP and PVE.

That said, I think we still need a rework passthrough on our traits and some minor tweaking, but nothing too serious. Downed state needs to be balanced so as to stop giving free team rallys. I think that should be 1st fix.

I just started a post on counter to warriors yesterday. Supposedly, they are one of the easiest classes for us to take down. You just have to be specced right and have the skillz to counters to their 100 blades skill.

Heres how it works:

Invest full air to get Tempest Trait

When u get hit with 100 kittens it will auto counter. Now that the warrior has blown his main CD, just blow him up. Having multiple stun breaks and oh kitten skills really helps.

So I switched up from my normal (healing support cc buff, debuff role on Staff) last night to S/D and D/D Full DPS Spec Full Air traits Tempest.

Couldnt get to the top with the most kills but it definately works. Have to press a lot of buttons really quick to get enough burst dps to get the job done.

But I wasnt dying to the 100kittens and Kitten Seeker Spammers nearly as much. Still need alot of practice and in D/D spec but im getting there.

Is the mystic forge and mystic c oins only for high level stuff or can I make something for say, my lvel 25 Ele?

I am looking for a guild to play my Ele in.

I am only lvl 25 in PVE, and up to rank 10 I think in SPVP.

It would be really helpful to get in an active guild with an expert ele who could help me hone my skills.

My rational is that reading the forums and watching videos of ppl kill noob theifs will only take me so far. I could learn much faster with someone in game in vent showing me the ropes.

Most ppl run S/D for PVE. Use earth for conditional damage
Most ppl say Staff is a bit harder to run in both PVE and SPVP.

What i do is switch back and forth when i get bored

You need to learn to get really good at both. I think what has helped my game more than anything is playing differnt builds in SPVP. Getting good at PVP will make PVE seem like a faceroll with any weapons.

From what I read, they didnt say they were nerfing the class. THey said they were watching it… So it could be the other way around, we could get a boost. And they did say Heal/tank spec so I woudnt worry about them lowering our dps. no way that will happen, its already way to low. Arenanet is not that kitten.

I dont think the heal/support spec should be nerfed either. So long as their is 1 support ele on each team in SPVP, they are balanced as far as I am concerned. Now put 1 team with a good support ele, and the other team without 1, then yea its probably gonna be one sided

The skill ceiling is higher for this class than for the others. It will take time to master it.
Keybind the attunement swaps 1st
Get all your weapon skills unlocked -that in itself takes a while for ele’s
1st ten pts to fire trait 2nd 10 in earth or water, as previously stated
i go for the 2nd ten in water to get the speed increase
play some spvp with the class to get a feel for it. once u get good with the class in spvp, PVE will become much easier
scepter dagger is most common and is great for PVE, if you get good with staff it can work well too, great for CC followed by AOE dps
get used to constantly switching attunements. dont just stay in fire all the time.

our survivability is very low so get used to kiting and you never want to be standing still taking melee damage. use your ranged dps and cc, and keep yourself healed up

its a very fun class that when played right can turn the tide in SPVP, and straight up owns with aoe dps in PVE

Theifs Guardians and Mesmers in particular order are definately tops. Its all you see in SPVP now.

I play a Staff Ele for healing/CC/damage mitigation but have played all the classes in SPVP. Tons of fun. Hard to beat a team with a good Staff Support Ele locking down areas with CC, and healing and giving out bubble auras to everyone constantly. DPS just isnt there with the Ele unless you sacrifice all your health, and then you will just get facerolled and one shotted.

If i were u i would just try all of the classes and see which one u like. you only have to be lvl 2 to unlock spvp.
Pick what fits your playstyle. Me I prefer ranged dps or heals cause thats what ive always played before. dont like melee classes myself much so even though theifs and gaurds are at the top, i prefer to play a more complex class that fits my style

After getting tired of playing my ele in Spvp, I have decided to give the Mesmer a try.

What is the mesmer’s role in Spvp?

What is the best setup for said role in Spvp.

Weapons,
Armour rune,
Jewelry piece
Skill rotation

Please assume that I have never played a Mesmer before and no nothing about the class or how its played. thx in advance for constructive advice

Another night last night of fun Ele SPVP sessions. I am loving Spvp now so much that I am neglecting leveling my toon up in WvW.

A few more questions;

1. Acessories and rings – I dont see that the Pvp vendors selling those items. Just the amulet. So can you use a ring or accesory? What about the back slot? If the Pvp vendors dont sell those items, where do i get them? Can I just buy some lvl 80 stuff off the trading post and use that? Or is that only for PVe?

Spifnar – I totally agree. When I started this thread, I was maily full on heals, ignoring the buff/debuff aspect. Now Im throwing out all kinds of buffs /debuffs / slows /stuns in addition to heals and it really helps the group. As soon as the group figures out anytime they are near me, they are getting all kinds of buffs and aura bubbles, as well as heals, and that the enemy is getting lockedin place -the group becomes much more focused and tight knit, rather than all split up.

So I tried some of these build suggestions last night. Worked out really well.

Do have a question though

1. I was getting bubbled with auras constantly. Why is it that sometimes the auras do not apply to everyone else even though I traited for it to apply to group

. Sometimes I see the bubbles on everyone else around me, sometimes I see it on just 1 other person, sometimes it doesnt go to anybody.

Ive been trying out different build as Ele in SPVP. I love the staff. Love the range on it. I dont spec for dps. I spec for condition removal, heals, signets, auras and buffs to group. Really seems to increase survivability and dps output for the entire group. Also, everyone else is always rolling a mesmer, theif, or gaurd, so its good to have the Staff ele out there healing, buffing, and mitigating damage

One more question. I tried to roll a theif just for kicks to see how it plays in SPVP. I couldnt seem to be able to get into SPVP with a level 1 theif.

Do I need to level the toon to a certain level before SPVP option becomes available or something? If so, what level will it unlock SPVP at?

I have been playing alot as Ele in SPVP. Hopefully this will change one day, but for now, I dont think Ele is viable in SPVP as a high dps role.
I think its more suited as a support class and focus healing/cc/ condition removal, auras and buffs to groups
And stay away from Theifs – they can take you down extremely fast no whate defense you have up

Is an Ele specced with healing armour runes, and max traits in water with a staff, and condition removal good as a healer/CC in SPVP?

I see most poeple just run around with a theif and spam 1 and 2.

Are poeple even using healer’s in SPVP Pugs?

Then how do you spec it for glass cannon? What traits, setup, runes, etc for a higher dps set up?

I tried stacking crit and air, and still wasnt enough dps.

So I tried Ele PVP this weekend and here’s what Ive taken out of the experience

I stacked Conditional Damage gear wh toughness.

For traits, I put most into fire and took the extra damage traits.
For the other’s I think I put 10 into air and 20 into water to get the first or second unlock and get health regen when attuned to water

I tried scepter dagger but kept dying to fast.

The range of 1,200 on the staff seems to be higher than the rest of the classes. So I tried to use that to my advantage. dont let anyone close and stay behind a wall of friendlies where possible. Didnt get a ton of kills but by using AOE Fire skills on the control point, i could take a whole enemy group health down and then let the melee finish off.

DPS just isnt nearly as high as it should be for a glass cannon spec. In other MMOs I have played a glass cannon and i could take down the med armour clasees faster than they could take me down. this game its the other way around.

I read something about secondary professions in GW2 and it confused me. Later i read that they took out Secondary professions.

As for Karma vendors, is there any certain ones that have certain armour that is better for Ele’s? Or should I just go to the nearest Karma vendor at my level? What about dungeon content at level 20? I read something about The Fissure of Woe Obsidian Armour. Is that any good?

Now that I have upgraded to a halfway decent video card, I am going to upgrade my Dual Core AMD to a Quad, something like the Phenom ii X965. Then I will have a system I am truly happy with.

I have only 60 silver and 1,200 Karma to spend on armour.

So I have a lvl 20 Ele in WvW. Definately a hard class to play unless you know what you are doing. I played a glass cannon / healer in LOTRO which is why I picked this class in GW2- it seemed similiar.

I just tried Structured PVP last night for the first time.

Questions:
1. I see I can respec my skills, but can I respec my talent points? If so, how? And what should I put the points into for dps damage role?
2. What should I use for weapons for dps? I was using scepter/dagger and found air and fire spells to be decent dps.
3. What should I use for gear? Is all the PVP gear free?
4. What about using Ele as support class in Spvp? I saw a video where an ele was acting as support class and lowering incoming healing on oppenents by 30%
5. Best skill rotation for ele in pvp?
6. Who should i target first? Who should i stay away from?

I welcome anything that can help me in Spvp on this character.

I see in the gem store you can buy xp boosters which could help speed level.

I ask, whats the point? I could see if you had to get your toon to max level to compete in PVP but since it autolevels you to 80 in PVP, what do you really stand to gain by buying a bunch of xp boosters to speed level?

Do you have anti-aliasing turned on? Turn it off, turn shadows off.

Bottom line is you are going to have to sacrifice image quality for performance.

My suggestion would be to look on Craigslist for a cheap used mid-range card since you cant afford an entire new rig.
Your card will be bottlenecked but you will still see an increase in performance. At least I did anyway.
I have an AMD dual Core 2.8 and was running an ATI 5570. I bought a 550 Ti Card for $50 bucks and I can run everything maxed out in pop zones at 40+ fps now.

Just upgraded my old ATI 55 70 to a Nvidia GTX 550 Ti. Its still just a mid-range card but it was only $50 bucks on Craigslist so for that price I just couldnt pass it up.

Anyways, I can run smooth at 45+ with everything maxed out and Full anti-aliasing. Its like night and day looks so much smoother and more detailed. and no lag even in populated instances. Im telling ya, im hog heaven with this new card.

Q: Is GW2 such CPU dependant? supposedly its coded for 4 core CPU, but I dont think its optimized that great. Also, I think it uses DX 10 , which isnt as demanding as DX11.

Also, will a better video card keep the framerate from bottoming out when I get in a populated zone? Or is that their server load? Cant be my internet, its 40mb down and 5mb up

Anyone tried this game on a ATI 6770 Video Card?

Im currently running on a ATI 5570 and I had to turn the settings down to med or low and turn anti-aliasing off completely just to have an acceptable frame rate.

A guy has a ATI 6770 for sale used for $50 bucks. Would that be a solid upgrade that would allow me to up the eye candy factor on this game? I want to experience this game in all its splendor with the graphics settings maxed or close to max
