Just a question about the panic strike build. After spectating many people in dueling rooms I feel like I am the only one running dagger training.
I have the understanding that improvisations 10% only came from non-stolen bundles. Is the RNG to recharge something useful really worth 5% more damage overall?
Thank you for the input. I have was leaning towards build #2 also. Do you think replacing the soldiers amu with zerker one or replacing the cleric ring with either a zerker or zerker+hp one would be more viable?
And yes, I guess I meant gear choices rather than builds, I will be 00266 most likely
Hi! I am trying to decide between these 3 builds for roaming and would appreciate any input. I am D/D with pack runes, and could buy hoelbrak if needed.

Armor: Superior runes of the pack, it gives really high uptime on swiftness and a ton of combat stats
Well all the popular ones have been said but I’ll add the cele burning signets ele to the list.
I can die to the burning just from hitting them without them actually landing any of their signets or flame skills on my thief. And they are tanky from the defense stats of earth line + cele amulet with no boons to steal even.
Looks like a all or nothing burst build rather than a dueling one. Either way if you are running dagger/dagger you need to have infiltrators signet so you can have more than just mug to land your CnDs.

Since you are running the 100% crit out of stealth you might want to drop the trill of the crime trait and go shadows embrace in SAs instead. The fury overlaps with the 100%. A very common variant of WvW thief similar to yours but with a little lower burst and much higher survivability especially in 1vX situations is 2/6/6/0/0. In Spvp most people drop the SA and go 2/6/0/0/6 with d/d.
The crucial part with any d/d build is to make sure you time your CnD to mug/infiltrator signet so that it hits, for example wait till the roll or if they havent seen you. Otherwise you will have blown an important gap closer and you initiative without getting the stealth you need for your 100% backstab.

I tested in pvp and wvw and didn’t notice any problems. Could it be last refuge popping right as you start your mug/cnd or maybe latency on your side messing with the order?
Why did this change get implemented? Is there anyway around this?
I used to just queue and continue with map exploration, I didn’t mind longer queues either because I had something to do instead of running in circles in the lobby.
Its like 50/50 that ill get the action que to finish downed opponents on my ranger. Lag or bug?
Sounds like you might want to try an ele.
1)High uptime on switness, signet of air, ride the lightning if you are d/d and lightning flash blink for mobility.
2) Can 1v1 any class usually and some classes dont have much of a chance against ele. At the same time the boon spam and aoe spam make staff or d/d ele great for mid fight parties.
3) Ride the lightning and vertical blink(lightning flash for disengage)
If you play ele for like a week or so you will kinda gain a muscle memory of the rotations an it will become fairly easy to be effective with the class. Hope that helped!
Disregarding the infighting between our S/D and D/P brethren, this change to me seems rather neutral overall. I look at it this way: before you had to spend 5 initiative on the FS/LS combo or wait for it to roll back over. Mow you can chain FS together until you hit. This basically allows you to sustain longer until you make a successful hit. Numerically speaking, you get 5 FS now for the price of the old 4 which is a 25% increase in the evasion uptime assuming they are skilled enough to dodge/block all of your FS in which case you would probably need the extra evade frame uptime. I think we might see more complaints after this change rather than less. Let’s wait to see how this shakes out before we throw in the towel on the weapon set
Unfortunately its more than just the costs. Previously you would use three early at nothing so that you could use your preload your LS and then initiate by casting it and immediately steal for a guaranteed boon rip and possibly a nice damage spike.
It looks freaking sweet. Read the wind become useful, signet of wild gives stab without trait, quality of life changes on the weapons skills and might on autoattack bounces for ax, tangling roots lowered cooldown for using it for clearing condis with the trait. Time to dust of the ol’ ranger thanks anet!
I’d advise ele if you are on the fence about maining one in pvp, tanky staff with the parrot is easy and gets good results.
First and most important change that necro requires is deleting signet of spite from game, then we can talk about other changes.

You about have the right of it as far as thief’s purpose. You have the mobility with shortbow/shadowstep to punish people for not leaving bunkers and quickly tilting 1v1s into 2v1 and then quickly getting to where you are needed next.
As for build I think regardless of s/d or p/d you want the beserker amulet. I’m not sure if you meant to say “s/d” when you posted your build but that looks pretty close to the meta s/d build.
I hope you just didnt list your utilities though. Signet build only works with the cheesy signet of might one shot attempts. You probably want to grab shadow refuge at the very least, even if you are not a stealthy thief. Also pick up withdraw or hide in shadow for the heal.
Most d/p go either 2/6/0/0/6 or 0/6/6/2/0 if you dont feel comfortable without the shadow arts. Most s/d is 2/0/0/6/6 with you traits except pick up vigorous recovery instead of fleet shadow in acrobatics and swap to withdraw heal for high vigor uptime.
Personally I like the d/p, the pistol off-hand offers blind field for fighting melees and safe stomping and the s/d just doesnt have the satisfying crunch of a backstab.

i don’t think the pvp community expected to be receiving dungeon rewards ultimately though. now its just more garbage for my bank, some are nice mind you but i’d rather just pve those.

And to beat it as an engi just block once you see him put the venoms on, generally thiefs will just start. Also reflects from shield or the new turret bubble trait work well if you are running them.
mesmers are easily the worst class in pvp
Kinda only have portal going for us. If you try to play anything other than PU you just die 2 quickly and if you play PU you can win a fight after an hour but you’ve already been decapped and they can just leave at anypoint. WTB power mesmer buffies

Thats reallly freakin confusing. I started playing engi yesterday and have been doing power rifle since the damage the turrets supposedly inflict is like double on the tooltip when i go berserkers. Anet please fix so you dont confuse noobs!

@OP What do you think about running 6 in crit over 6 acro, but keeping the 6 in trickery?
1) Generally if you gauge that you can stomp someone before they can get ressed go for it. Keep in mind who you are stomping. If they have CC from the ground and you are alone with them go ahead and stomp twice. If there are people around you will need stability before stomping. In super big teamfights if you think you can stomp before the enemy resses the guy go for it with stability. However since you are a necro and dont have too much access to stability, spamming condi and then epidemicing when people try to ress or droping marks and wells would be better.
2)Since you play necro you are not the most mobile class in the world but you can be a great bunker or just point defender. generally you should leave a bunker, however if no one tries to backcap do move to support mid. Otherwise you are leaving your team at a possible disadvantage. If you see they have thieves, you should pretty much always leave the bunker or you will get backcapped.
3) Corrupt boon/blood is power is great, just make sure you have your dagger ready to send your condis to them. You can go corruption condi necro fairly successfully. Personally I feel the minion master necro is just better once you know how to chain your CCs and they make far superior bunkers. But if you play your build enough you will become effective. I’d also go sigil of agony on scepter no exception.

Okay I’ll try it, but does the 30 points in trickery really do so much? I feel like I’m wasting points because of the condition damage given from the line. I intend to use S/D+SB. I was kinda looking for a power dueling S/D build
Probably both full glass, thief popped attack signet for bonus damage, got 10ish stacks of might from sitting in shadow refuge, since that guard got you low first the thief then got the executioner 20% then crit you out of stealth with the backstab bonus and like fire sigil.
The counterplay is dont build glass when playing ele. You can be soo hard to kill now with fairly high damage now. Use stun aura shield after he hits you out of stealth. then start dpsing once gets stunned, also if he is glass jsut spam aoes around and he might even die.
I’ve been using backstab shadow arts d/p build forever now and am think about trying out sword/dagger instead. Mostly for spvp but I occassionally venture into pve/wvw. So does anyone have a s/d build that works fine post patch that I could see? Thanks!

I read that they stopped the interaction with the greatsword rush but did they also disable the one with burning rush? I’ve been testing at the golems and at most I get the lightning flash damage and like the final explosion of burning rush and maybe like one tick.
I know where laurel dealers are! I don’t know where to find carrion trinkets..
I cant find any at the laurel dealers is there some other way to get these? Thanks!
At the very least I think afk report option should be available for SoloQ. Sure maybe you get in some drama and someone reports you falsely but if you are getting reported by 3-4 for afking there should be some kind of repercussions.
The changes for the most part look really nice. The pvp stats customizer panel looks great, as well as the reward tracks!
I like almost everything in that blog update, and upscaling player’s existing rank to compensate for rank gains increase make sense. But 55—→dragon…come on.
I’d imagine the removal to be stat based. They do keep track of people’s “favorite” map in the panel so they had to be storing the data somewhere.
I for one am really happy about this anyway. Always, had to just click play again when it rolled to this map.
Hmm, I’d advise Thief/Warrior/Mesmer if you are going for a mobile burst character. Thief might be currently the best package of mobility and burst of the three. You got a couple of builds but as long as you go shadow arts you can play like a leblanc or Zed like style. Warrior you can mix in massive teamfighting capabilities instead of just roaming if you want, I guess its more like your gragas but with more damage and being an unkillable tank. Mesmer feels kinda like thief just a bit weaker with a bit less mobility but can be fun if you prefer a caster play style. Also I’d imagine thiefs/warriors will be toned down slowly while memser will probably only rise from a buff/nerf standpoint so if you dont want to deal with nerfs to your main you could start here.

Okay, that actually raises another question I had from before. Does “gear unification” mean that PvP gear would be usable outside the mists as PvE gear will be allowed into it? For example if I bought cultural armor from the glory vendor, at some point in the future would I be allowed to take it out? If not I’d just buy exp scrolls for my characters.
With glory being removed there is no point in us not spending everything. So my question is will any new rewards be added before the removal or should I just go ahead and blow it all on exp/bags now?
Confession Bear: As a long time ele player I hope they are nerfed to ele status. That way I will at least be able to have fair duels with someone other than other eles or thiefs.
In the heart of the mists you will notice three lockers, close to the weapon dealer and probably with people standing around them, all pvp gear/mats are stored in these lockers.
I do however understand your complaints and concerns. So I’d like to offer this to you guys, if you accept Trick or Treat bags until the Mad King festivities are over, would you be happy to have double PvP reward chests for the two weeks after the festivities are over? This way those players who would like to spend their time in PvP to earn their holiday rewards can continue to spend their time in PvP and those of you who don’t want the holiday rewards can sell them on the trading post and then collect double PvP reward chests for a couple of weeks to make up for it.
Does this sound like a reasonable solution?

Dont be scared of the forummesmers around here either. If you like GS feel free to use it as one of your weapons. GS + SW/Pist or Focus are great for phantasm builds.
Ah well, I see, thanks for the speedy response. I feel like there is no reward to winning solo queue games now though, the baggies have like 2-3 candies that sell for like 20 c each instead of the cool new gear I could be collecting. Oh well I guess its still better than no reward from hotjoin..
