why is energy not like initiative?

in Revenant

I always figured its Anets way of admitting that the initiative system is incredibly broken, unfortunatly there are too many thief players for them to actually redesign it.

Nothing stops them from adding cd to their skills just like nothing stopped them to slap cd’s on our utilities.

Revenant needs a mechanic redesing when it comes to energy.

If things keep going the way they are, the entire profession needs a redesign

With all these CDs and energy costs...

I think they should just give rev access to all legends at all times, similar to elementalist attunements. Still think it’s funny how the thief still has a similar energy management design.

I think all legends at once would be a little overwhelming, especially considering we would still want to keep weapon swapping, but it would be interesting to see Rev balanced around using 3 legends. It would take a lot more balancing for Anet, but the way I see it, we’re slowly losing everything the Rev had going for it at release: No cooldowns, energy management, reaction based skills. Right now it feels like I’m just popping cooldowns and and autoattacking until either they’re off cd or I’m dead.

Revs just need a new dynamic very badly right now, for both class balance and for it to actually be interesting to play, personally it feels like somehow Rev has become more unfinished then it was at release.

The original idea for Revs is long gone. We aren’t a versatile class with a trick for every situation anymore, and energy management is just frustrating and pointless if we’re going to wait on cooldowns all the time. I think the best fix for the state of Rev right now (besides bug fixing and actually putting effort into balancing other builds) is to let us switch between 3 different spirits in battle.

That would open up more build variety, combat options, and we wouldn’t be waiting on single key skills to come off cooldown. Rev could become much more of a jack of all trades master of none type class, and cooldown/energy cost nerfs would be much more forgivable.

Shut Down By CC

in Revenant

Posted by: roman.6390

roman.6390

I’ve been playing some PVP lately and it’s starting to feel like the meta is shifting towards a lot of CC builds, that or I’ve been running into to many Dragonhunters. Is anyone else having trouble countering this? If no I’d love to see some builds and strategies, but even running a PVT amulet I keep getting CC locked, and burst hard and can’t counter because that class has easy access to stability. Am I making myself an easy target or have people found an easy counter to Revenant?

Water Combat/Stance Issue?

roman.6390

I’m sure when it came down to it, it was either a nicely polished class above water, or more bugs with the class and more underwater legends/skills. If that’s the case I’m fine with waiting for the rest of the underwater features since It’s not a huge part of the game, and from I’ve seen non-existant in HoT content

Overpowered Passive Traits

in Revenant

Posted by: roman.6390

roman.6390

Don’t be upset at other people linking traits if you open up your argument by comparing one trait to another.

The reasoning I see behind the amount of passive traits for the Revenant is because our utilities are “locked in”. It’s more beneficial for us to have active, offensive/defensive utility skills since we can only choose between 2 themed sets. We have no signets with passive boosts, and our legends don’t increase stats or add effects. We use our traits for our bonus to stats, on-demand boons like prot or stability (yes Jalis has a stability skill, but it’s not fast reaction, with a high energy cost) and anything that other classes have easy access to. For example if I’m in a match against 2 hammer warriors with rampage, I can’t just equip different utility to help counter the CC, I need to change my entire build, which will likely take away from my damage or support or a bit of both. Revs weren’t built like the other classes, so don’t be upset that they have more passive traits, you’re comparing apples to oranges.

Whether it’s OP or not is irrelevant, 9 days of actual in game data isn’t enough to decide what needs to be changed, but it’s a great starting point and that’s what he have now.
If you think that passive traits in general need to be redone, fine but you’re in the wrong sub-forum for that. If you think Rev is just class for noobs to faceroll the better players, then you will just come off closed minded. Either way you’re complaining a week before people even get to see how things will work out, no one is very inclined to listen yet.

Helseth is a great player and all credit to him for his success, but he can be a bit of a doomsayer. Don’t follow the herd and repeat what he says just because you watched a lesser player avoid his burst combo.

Energy regen rate after legend swap

I had this issue as well. It seems like the upkeeps take a moment to deactivate now. During BWE2 I was able to activate IO immediately after a swap from Glint, but now I have to wait if I was running a few facets, sometimes feels a bit longer if I had more upkeeps activated

No revive skill on revs

in Revenant

Posted by: roman.6390

roman.6390

I’ve always found revival skills a bit of a gimmick, only useful in fights where pugs drop like flies, and they usually have a pretty harsh trade-off like a super long cooldown. It’s a nice thing to have once in a while, but I would hate to trade an already limited utility set for something that’s usually not as useful as some people think. Just use Shiro and use IO to quick revive, it works really well.

how would you redesign Energy System?

in Revenant

Posted by: roman.6390

roman.6390

I wouldn’t redesign much. Just significantly lower energy costs on utility skills (and some weapon skills) and put very short 3-8 second cooldowns on utilities, excluding upkeep skills. I get people wanting excess energy over 50 to carry over on stance swap, but I always burnt through my energy before swapping so I never saw it as an issue.

I see the revenant as a mortal channeling immensely powerful beings. It makes sense to me to only be able to manage their power in short bursts before running out of energy, as if you were only able to tap into small amounts of their strength, and any more would be overwhelming. And mechanically I think the more often you need to stance dance the more entertaining it will be to play.

I think energy is close to where it needs to be, there’s just a fine line to balance the energy cost, and the current lack of cooldowns. I’d hate to see the meta to end up being walk into a crowd and spam jade wind while your team does the rest.

So much Revenant Hate

in Revenant

The Revenant has some awesome skills and abilities. The issue is that they just look good. They barely do any damage.

My warrior is specced for GS, but can still utilize a longbow to attack at range and do decent damage. The Revenant, as it stands, can’t even measure up to my warrior’s least-effective weapon.

The common denominator with most of the dev comments on what’s wrong with the Revenant is broken skills. They are looking for things that just plain don’t work as intended. Damage is a numbers game, they’ve said before that tweaking numbers is the easy part, and I can almost guarantee the traits we have are placeholders. Anet just finished redoing traits for 8 other classes I’m pretty sure they know what they’re doing by now. Just imagine the outrage if a class only 50-75% complete could come into the live environment and match up against the other classes.

Criticizing the Revenant design right now is like telling an artist their painting is trash when they only just finished a rough outline. Just be patient and let them know if they missed a spot.

[Feedback] No underwater combat for Revs?

in Revenant

roman.6390

I doubt that they aren’t implementing it, I have a feeling it is just a work in progress. If I’m being even more hopeful, I would guess that there will be all new utility skills for each legend while underwater, hopefully being carefully balanced in an overall restructuring of every class’ underwater skills

Don't have beta, but was wondering...

in Revenant

roman.6390

I’m a little conflicted with the way things are with the revenant. I would love to see a dual role, fast switching reactive class, and if possible I would like it to stay with no weapon switching. But unfortunately they synergized weapons with the builds. I feel like if I run Direct damage + Ventari, in berserker gear, with a staff, I’ll probably just be terrible at everything.

I hope they have some unique solution they just haven’t mentioned yet.

New to Mesmer, wondering about PvE offhand

Mesmer off-hands are all good at what they’re meant for. Get all 3 and as you explore you will start to see where each one excels. Sword will get the most single target DPS, pistol is a close second for when you can’t melee, and focus is good AoE dmg that also works at range(phant spawns on target, not on you and runs to target like sword#5). If you want to know which to dump money on first, probably focus because of sprint/AoE dmg phantom/reflects. Not to mention its great in dungeons, solo pve and WvWvW

It feels like it’s a little more broken than usual. Several times in EotM yesterday I tried to blink and went nowhere. I remember it happening a lot around the destructible bridges. Besides that the downed blink has been useless everywhere but perfectly flat ground.

Let’s hear the opinions on which race makes the mesmer class look kitten good doing what it does best.

personally I’ve always wanted dual daggers, in the throwing knife gypsy kind of style. I feel like that would fit the mesmer style really well and would open up a lot of mid range options. Would be nice if it embraced the more rogue/sleight of hand/magician side of the mesmer, without blurring the lines into thiefdom
