1. Not all thieves do massive damage.
2. If you spec a certain way, there will be certain class/build setups that you will stomp on, and others that you will get stomped on by.
3. If you spec another way, you may find you can stomp on those you previously struggled with and vice versa.
4. I am a banana.

Well, it can keep 15-20 people busy for 5+ minutes, and in that time they’re not doing anything constructive to help their team. They might as well not even be on the field.

It may be a troll build but an argument can be made for it’s merit in waylaying the enemy.

The stealth mechanic in this game has really grown on me.

It definitely rewards players who use it intelligently.

Okay, it is not the responsibility of others to keep enemies in position for your skills. They are not your tanks. It is your responsibility to use positioning and skills such that pistol whip will hit them.

We’re not asking allies to control the enemy’s position for us, we’re asking allies to refrain from unnecessarily taking away our ability to control the enemy’s position. There’s a distinction.

All I’m going to say on this subject is morons and Death Grip.

you have to give anet some respect for attempting something on this magnitude. there was stuff happening on the open world map that would normally only be attempted in an instanced area, and there’s a really good reason for that.

they just aimed high and fell short.

the last event was particularly complex, and had some really enjoyable moments… landing a rockslide on the ancient crab, for example, was a lot more rewarding than just your standard tank and spank. other parts didn’t work so well (reinforcement stages, for example: artificially inflating the length of a set-piece by giving enemies two lives and adding zeros to their health pools is a sure fire way of sucking all the fun out of an encounter.)

i’m sure anet don’t need us to tell them what didn’t work as well as intended. this event will have given them a lot to think about as regards to what they can achieve and what they can’t.

i’d have preferred a 45 minute event. not 45 minutes of content artificially inflated to 2+ hours by adding a few zeros onto enemies health pools.

also, spending the best part of 10 minutes to take down a champion only for it’s healthpool to refill to 100% is soul destroying.

You don’t have to play through it. All you have to do is show up for the end, so you can get the credit for the chest. The loot, and the following flurry of precursor buying and selling was the most enjoyable part of the event… which should not have been the case.

pistol/dagger is more powerful when you play it as melee.

cloak and dagger is your friend.

I am not against having new content and even one time events. What I think they should learn from is all their previous events. Such as during the end of the beta weekend events and all other dynamic events such as orr where it becomes senseless AOE by the masses and most people cannot even see the foes they are fighting. Having everyone bunched up in the city for the event was bound to have this occur.

Having people AOE or swing a sword mindlessly without seeing the foes you are fighting isn’t in the least fun. It’s pointless.

i agree, having an entire server bunched up mindlessly dpsing is asinine game design on so many levels. it doesn’t make anyone feel heroic, or part of something bigger than themselves… it just makes people feel that what they are doing doesn’t matter.

being stood in a huge crowd around an npc/spawn point waiting for something to happen is the kind of thing that happened in mmos 5-10 years ago. it wasn’t fun then and it still isn’t.

better game design would be:

pirate ship being attacked by a huge sea/crab creature. npc’s running around causing mass hysteria. maybe dynamic event at multiple points in lion’s arch to hose them down to control the crowds. other dynamic events running simultaneously where players help to position/build siege weapons to down the creature. maybe even an escort type event where you need protect an npc who is leading an assault type mission onto the pirate ship itself where he/she plant’s high yield explosives to take down the creature.

crowds controlled, siege weapons firing, huge explosion…

creature slinks back into the sea. water is silent. bubbles… then hundreds/thousands of smaller crab-like creatures who then start to swim out of the bay into lion’s arch itself. now, there’s a new set of dynamic events where you help the previously hosed-down citizens of lion’s arch to arm themselves and enter the fight. another simultaneous event where you use barrels and such like to set up choke points at various points throughout the city, perhaps another where pirates who were on the ship attacked by creature have managed to swim to the beach and are in need of medical assistance. of course, people want to kill stuff and there’ll be plenty of that to do too.

wave after wave is eventually defeated. citizens of lion’s arch cheer…

huge sea creature resurfaces and starts to climb the lighthouse king-kong style. another cluster of simultaneous dynamic events ensue. then… lighthouse explodes. creature is flung off, badly wounded. huge net falls out of the sky (those resourceful asurans in hot air balloons!) creature remains shackled in lion’s arch for the next day or so, heavily sedated with a dynamic event every 15/30 minutes where it attempts to break free.

this avoids over reliance on single npcs. it spreads out the action which will alleviate lag/poor framerate issues. most importantly, it empowers players with the ability to CHOOSE what they do. they can see things happening as a result of their actions and there’s a constant reminder where they fit into the bigger picture because of the giant crab creature that’s either in their face or on the horizon.

buff to P/D!!!

I don’t know if you are trolling or being serious while trying to be funny (I really don’t, sorry). How did P/D get buffed? CnD damage reduction? Dancing Dagger reduced by 50%?

Seems P/D got hit… what am I missing?

i don’t use those abilities for their damage

looks to me like we traded minimal damage for more time in stealth. that’s a buff

P/D was weak, it’s now weaker
