It prays on hopes and dreams, because there’s always a chance.

If something were impossible, people wouldn’t do it. It’s the hope of that tiny chance that causes ruin.

It’s the nature of gambling, because people think only others are subject to the laws of probability. It’s also unfortunately, extremely profitable, for the one that is the house.

Before HoT, most of these things had a greater level of accessibility. However, due to the amount of people wanting to be special snowflakes, they lobbied for more things that were based around exclusion. Now this wouldn’t have been a bad thing, but this is obviously centered around pve “grinding”, and leaves anything else out of that paradigm that isn’t esports left out in the cold. One of these things is World vs World, and it’s no surprise that HoT hasn’t been kind to it.

Oh no, stop. The price of superior arrow carts is dropping.

good im out of gold :| probably i can buy one now… lol..
use to burn all cash on anti confi food…

Well, out of heroics too? I usually budget them so that about 50% of them goes for my own siege stock, most of the rest gets sold to the TP or donated to people as needed since I figure if they don’t place it, I’d probably do so anyways.

As for food, Saffron is anti-condi and relatively cheap, and sometimes if it’s really a slow night, take a look at the level 60 versions. They’re not really that much worse and are a lot cheaper. Plus the privisioner sells some interesting food. (don’t go for the ones you can get for a few copper though)

But in all seriousness and this applies to everyone; don’t go too hard on yourself. Week to week, it’s very easy to burn yourself out especially when you feel not enough people are helping you. There are some very great people on my server that just literally collapse in frustration because either people don’t refresh their siege when they spend a ton of gold on it, or fail to scout properly so that tier 3 structure gets lost after a lot of time investment. I just tell them that it’s time to take it easy. At least the scout partcipation system has helped them out a lot because I know a lot of people that have had a net total of 10 gold on them, and that’s not right.

I’ve been there before. There’s sometimes an urge that makes one try to take up the slack when others fairweather decide it’s nor worth it. Sometimes the break is truly worth it, just because a game should not be taking so much stress. I mean, for the most part, the same thing should be there next week.

No Real Varience in Matchup System

It’s not viable in NA. You can take a look at some of our matchups, and the system has already matched most of them to be in close in rank as possible, but there’s still great disparity that would be worse if we have more variety http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/

I am currently on a t3 server, and it is simply not pleasant on either end if we get matched with a t2 or t4. Even karma trainers will get bored if there’s nothing left to capture.

WVW, GVG Guilds to Rangers: You can't join!!!

in Ranger

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I don’t think rangers need more damage. They would be severely OP in small scale combat because their single target damage is fine. One should be addressed on focusing on their ability to deliver said damage to a enemy zerg. This game also isn’t balanced around 111111111 content.

IMO, it just takes two steps:

Merge Signet of the Beastmaster with Signet Mastery to adept or remove it entirely, making it so that signets work without traits.

Merge Piercing Arrows + Eagle Eye, and maybe make it so that it increases SB range by 150. This way you could take both without sacrificing spotter and look selfish and/or worthless.

That would be more than enough. The main problem is that ranger traits are so scattered and have to compete with each other over a small space.

Blocking dps meters

You know, I always thought the gripes on both sides, both “Omg I am only getting dps nubs in my party kick kick” and “Omg I kept getting kicked by mean pplz” seem to share the same thing and that is that they are putting their fates in the hands of random people. Trusting random people to treat you well is a complete gamble.

The solution is of course, to get friends, or find a group that you will have agreed to expect a certain atmosphere and performance. And especially in content where performance actually matters, this seems pretty critical. Toxic people are toxic no matter what and short of banning them from abusive behavior, there is little that can be done.

Then again, it’s also not surprising when neither group has many friends to begin with… I wonder why!

Stop playing the victim and only associate with people worth associating with. Also lol@ the legality part. Excuse me, but when you join group oriented content like that, it’s no longer about yourself since what you do does directly affect other people. You don’t have a right to the privacy of that, as you don’t even own anything involving the game itself. Arenanet does.

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

ArchonWing.9480

After some discussion in Bloodstone Fen tonight, I also discovered I’m capped as well. And I thought, “Other than the two gold and middling gift, what’s the point of doing dailies anymore?”

If the primary rewards an activity don’t interest you, then naturally it is pointless beyond the quality of the activity itself. Doesn’t mean it’s pointless for everyone. Just don’t do them.

The rewards from dailies far outstrip the effort required to complete them. If you’re so established that 2g a day for 15 minutes of effort is still not good enough for you, then give yourself a good pat on the back, for you are very well accomplished in the game.

I think the writ of experience from most dailies is completely worthless because I have level 80 of each class and it does nothing but provide an eyesore. Doesn’t mean the game needs to be changed to suit my needs.

Dailies already represent a disproportionate part of all AP. I think that makes it a complete joke because it doesn’t really measure any degree of accomplishment in the game. Ironically, this is probably my best argument for increasing the cap.

Commander’s Compendium account bound

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

If you were planning on selling them then why hold on to them? If you promised one to someone why didn’t you mail it when you made the promise? Why by 5 in the first place? If I had 500 gold laying around I certainly wouldn’t buy 5 of these.

As for the change, probably the old “must do content to get reward” mantra even though BoH drops (or dropped, do they still drop) from achievement chests.

Did you read what I wrote? They are Prizes for a charity event that takes place this Fall, the ExtraLife Charity Event. I was holding onto them for that event.

If they were for some event occurring in the future then why buy them with such a lead time? You couldn’t remember to save 500g and 1250 BoH and not spend them until the event was over?

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time, that seemed to be an okay thing to do.

If the change was instead to increase the book to 300g and OP could no longer afford that would you have criticized the poster for not buying them in advance? Plus it’s an issue of trust. There’s no guarantee people will intentionally or unintentionally spend the gold and not have 500g lying around— with 5 books lying around he can’t do anything else with them for the most part.

He certainly didn’t expect the game to suddenly change the rules on such an issue when nobody asked for it.

Should we not store anything in our bags or inventory in the fear that it may randomly become account bound some day?

In any case, it’s why I propose the things be vendorable. The badges will be gone forever, but at least the trouble from these fringe incidents can be mitigated a bit

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

All the people calling this setup “grinding” I really don’t understand.

It isn’t as if you’re doing the same hero challenges over and over. You’re running around HoT maps, doing events, hitting hero challenges and mastry point thingies. This is exactly the same as all the endgame maps in the core game, orr to silverwatses, just with different icons on the vistas.

It is literally the same exploration-centric advancement model as the core game with the exact same model. There are more hero challenges than you actually need points, so you can skip the ones that are too hard/boring/etc.

Were you all the same people complaining there wouldn’t be anything to do in the HoT maps except grind events for mastry xp as well?

They even threw WvW a pretty giant bone here, and honestly the only “grind” in the system is there for the people who go out of their way to avoid the intended advancement paths through either naturally playing WvW or exploring the HoT maps and jump on the sure-to-be-formed EOTM “lets ruin EOTM by using it to farm” train that people who want WvW stuff without actually playing WvW set up already anyway.

Someone explain to me how this is a grind. It looks like fun progression designed to get you moving around the maps, just like leveling in core.

Your question/statement at the end has been answered multiple times.

You are grinding it over and over again, If you want to get elite specs on multiple characters. You are grinding it if you want it quickly. It’s disincentive to sit back and enjoy the content, if you want the elite specs.

Again explain to me how this is different than leveling.

Or gearing alts.

Is the problem that you’re actually expected to play characters to advance them?

If you don’t like playing those characters, why do you care about their elite specs?

I just don’t understand it.

The game does allow you to largely bypass the leveling process via tomes, and before that there was crafting. Gearing alts can just be done with gold, something that can be obtained anywhere in game. You can approach either issue with a myriad of ways.

It’s a bit different. You can have an 80 geared in exotics or even ascended with minimal interaction. I would suspect many of us have that in mind to have an instant 80 Rev.

They just need to make more long chain events and trains in other zones.

Truth is, after the repeated Cursed Shore Nerfs before the train started, there was probably zero reason to play open world beyond leveling because there was nothing to be gained from it— oh good a rare after 15 minute world boss! And the only reason people are like that is because crap was nerfed elsewhere— so it’s pretty laughable to think that making the problem worse will solve the problem.

Bring back Cursed Shore or something… boost the loot greatly and revert it back to the old difficulty.

Dragon banners, seriously?

10 people owning 50 people zergs sounds fine.

10 people owning 50 people zergs because the former pve’d enough for it, well….

Go PvE heroes! They were right. You guys really are into PvE!

Banners are extremely cheap, only about 3.5g per banner, and it lasts until the objective is flipped. Commanders might drop 3.5g worth of siege just to attempt to capture a keep. Do you complain about pvers using superior siege or high quality food too?

I’m sorry, but that’s a ridiculous and disingenuous comparison because you’re ignoring the barrier to entry like the cost it takes to get to the level to require the banners. Any individual can purchase high quality food without any prequisites beyond a few gold at chef, or even just use the TP. Furthermore, the difference between expensive food and relatively cheap food isn’t that big of a difference. There’s no requirement of this sort for making siege either.

Not to mention food and siege can be easily made by actually playing WvW.

And sure, I’m complaining because siege and food can be easily done by individuals, so yea the complaints are different. I didn’t complain about +5 in the old days, because an individual could provide it, so yea, try again.

Oh, and by the way, even if your assertion is true, I don’t actually take any pride or some kind of superiority in having “worked” for my food and siege. Not to mention, if they did have out of balance food or siege to that degree, I’d complain the same if not more. If there was a new tier of armor that was 50% stronger than the last, or a 100% condition duration food, you’d bet I’d be calling it out for exactly what it is— a pve based crutch.

And let’s be honest and post a general question to those reading. How many random pve’rs that are just here for the daily capture willing to drop superior siege, when the tower rewards less than the siege?

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

It is incomprehensible how Anet has said nothing – flat out zilch, nothing, about this yet. The dev post tracker is full of tech tickets resolutions, but .. lack of commentary on a seriously pressing issue, for literal months, over and above and past the time they once kidded to us that they were listening?

I am tired of this. Seriously freaking tired.

Agreed. How can you make such a big change with so little care?

Anyhow, the system fails because it does nothing but slow down progression, and that naturally is bad for people who’ve already done it a few times. It makes it more clear that your character is nothing until they hate 80.

If they really wanted to make leveling more engaging, they should have increased the difficulty of mid-level zones and drastically increased the difficulty of higher level zones, as well as boosting the rewards accordingly. This way, people that don’t want to care about leveling can just sandbag away in the faceroll easy low zones, when people that actually want a little challenge, can, you know, be actually forced to understand the character’s mechanics. I don’t really get how adding more restrictions and having less freedom to “play the way you want” makes content more meaningful. It just stratifies the game too much to what the creators want.

Right now it does nothing but make people do more easy content and actually pve in a lot of places is easier, making the gap between the open world and instanced content even bigger and thus becomes even more worthless as a learning tool, unless you want to learn to zerg I guess. Others just buy the way their past through it, rendering the system moot.

As played IMO they should auto unlock all current adept and master traits, possibly refund people that wasted if possible, and introduce more unlockable traits in those tiers. This allows the presence of unlockable content that becomes an option, but does not cripple the player should they choose to not partake in it or at most just suffer a mild inconvenience in buying it. Such a endeavor actually requires effort, of course so if they fear balance issues to not allow them in pvp possibly.

You’ll just have to respect the fact that a lot of people are dedicated to their cause and take wvw really seriously. This really impacts their cause. To add onto, it, given their general neglect of this game mode, this really comes across as a slap in the face.

And I don’t consider “don’t play wvw” to be a viable solution, because that’s what a lot of people are electing to do.

If they introduced an instant kill button in which you press 1 to kill everyone on the map, then I think people would have a right to complain even if death is cheap. Then again, this isn’t that far removed, if not that extreme.

I would have settled for say, 25% less supply, and more subtle buffs.

And FYI I’ve had no trouble adapting to the excessive damage quickness meta.

There’s really only two things I like involving siege. Getting a ballista up to snipe enemy siege (especially enemy ballistas) and disabling siege 4-5 times in a row. Stuff like sitting on a treb makes me ill and I don’t understand people that sit on cannons firing at passersby all dayYea, it’s not very skillful, but frustrating enemy attacks is always a good thing.

I suppose I could just not bother at all.

P.S. Disablers are pretty easy to counter. If your group is too lazy to bubble/toss reflects/use projectile destroying skills/mark the walls/yank people off the wall then maybe you don’t deserve the champ bag 30 seconds earlier.

Frankly, I think it’s better than it was two years ago when they were truly out of touch IMO with “NEW AND EXCITING” things that seemed almost used in an ironic sense and certain posts from the development that just made me go “holy crap, you have no kittening clue and are incredibly patronizing”, but I won’t name any names. =p Let’s just say I wasn’t a big fan of tournaments at times.

At least now they should realize not all is right in wvw land.

By no means do I think this boat is steered anywhere near the right direction, but a willingness to adapt to the situation is needed on both ends.

I would definitely like to also agree with points that feedback is important to provide, not anger. There’s too many times I feel the development team will make very short posts and I feel it is because of fear of being taken out of context or have their words twisted over a matter of semantics, and this doesn’t apply to this section only. Even though I’ve already dumped all my spare points in PvF defense, it is still not enough. (Sorry, I’ve resorted to spending my ability points on imaginary things) Now, I’d like to also point out many people do not do this and do provide very high quality feedback across the boards, but there are definitely a few folks out there that are making matters worse— not that I believe everyone should be punished for the actions of those few though but just because a red post seems to have posted something objectionable doesn’t mean you have to mash the post reply button. Proposed changes to conditions

Just nerf the + condition duration food, as well as the – condition duration to compensate.

Currently the food is so overpowered that it outpaces other food for condi users, and if they don’t take it, they’ll get overrun by people with – condi food who have to take it because they’ll get overrun by people with + condi food. A vicious circle.

Guild vs. Guild confirmed!

ArchonWing.9480

I would say to rest easy if you feel that this would take away from WvW.

This will allow guilds across all servers to fight, right? That means there’s much less need to hop around servers just to fight another guild?

If there were really groups on your server that only fight on OS and never come out to help your server, that wouldn’t change a thing. If they cared about your server to begin with, they will naturally come out. Plus you wouldn’t get any of those guilds that don’t care about your server just to solely gvg and take up your queue space or not.

In any case, this can only be a good thing I feel. If hardcore players have more incentive to play, the game will naturally last longer as they continue to innovate the meta which will spill into wvw fights. And as much kitten many people like to claim that those fight groups don’t help their server, chances are they are often a driving force behind activity behind all aspects of wvw.

Gift of Battle - How do I do This?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/WvW_Reward_Track

You don’t need a guild. However, you are better off with a guild if they have the WvW reward track boost which will speed things up. You can also purchase Badges of Tribute with badges you find to earn some gold:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Badge_of_Tribute

Hopefully it’ll help you afford more materials for your legendary.

Essentially, you need to open the World vs World screen by pressing b and look at the icons on the left. One of the icons leads you to a reward track and there are various choices. Mouse over the one that says Gift of Battle, and a button that says activate should appear. If you did it right, it should be on top of the screen.

To earn reward track points, you need to earn participation by doing events or killing enemies or guards. Every 5 minutes you are rewarded progress towards your reward track based on that. You get a bunch of intermediate rewards along the way as the bar fills up, and you get the Gift of Battle at the very end.

Doing a couple of events fills up the bar quickly, but it starts decaying after what I believe is 10 minutes. To prevent that from happening, you need to participate in any event or kill an enemy. Going to kill a guard does the job too.

Events include things like capturing enemy objectives or defending your own. Attacted structures will display swords and if you pass by one of your objectives that is under attack, the defend event appears. If you repair any damaged gate or wall, or kill an enemy, you get credit, so just remember to do that.

The most important thing to remember for WvW is supply. It is used to build siege weapons that can destroy gates and walls, and also used to repair them. You can grab supply from a supply depot (but the objective must have supply). In general, it’s better to grab them from supply camps instead of towers or keeps if possible.

However, do note the upgrade level of a objective. It’s marked by stars at the icon on the objective location. 1 star means the first tier level of upgrades, to a max of 3. A tier 3 objective is much tougher to take. You can also click on a objective on the minimap which gives you a lot of information, most importantly, how long it’s been held. Structures held for less than 5 minutes have Righteous Indignation (RI) on the NPC leader of the objective— rendering them invincible and also doing much more damage. So don’t show up before 5 minutes or close to it. RI is marked by an icon and also blue flames surrounding the supervisor.

The importance of supply is also why dolyak caravans (marked as a dolyak symbol on the map) are important as they transport supply to objectives. Killing the enemy dolyaks is a good way to cut the enemy supply and also gives you credit for an event. They are the easiest things to do in WvW, as well as capturing camps which are only guarded by mildly strong NPCs. Towers and Keeps have walls and gates to breach, and thus isn’t as easy unless you have a group.

An intresting thing is that you only have to kill guards to get credit for an objective capture. Thus, the laziest thing you could do is run around killing guards and you may get credit if your team captures the structure later.

The easiest way to do progress your track is to do dailies. Keep an eye on what the dailies are. They give a chest that gives you a potion of reward track.

Because you don’t care much about Player vs Player combat atm, consider bringing a class with high stealth uptime and mobility such as a thief or mesmer. This will enable you to easily do things like Daily Ruin capture, Daily Land Capturer (sentry), or Daily Supply Disruptor (kill dolyak). Personally, I would suggest Mesmer if you see allied zergs running around, because it’s a bit easier to give utility in zerg fights without risking yourself. One thing you want to try is to go into options and map a key to “look behind”. This will help you be a bit more aware of your surroundings.

If you do join a zerg, they may occasionally ask you to join their Voice Comms; typically a third party program like Teamspeak is required. Guide: http://www.multiplaygameservers.com/help/teamspeak3-guide/

It’s fairly easy to set up though. Consider it; most folks don’t care if you stay silent, since listening in already helps a lot. However, note that Arenanet has no control over what gets said on them.

If you wish to spend as little time here as possible, I would suggest sticking around until your dailies are complete, hang around to refresh your reward track, and do a bit more the next day.

You might have to go to Edge of Mists if your server isn’t active when you play. The track gain is less, but it is also easier. While everyone might kill me to do this, use: http://mos.millenium.org/na to check when your server is most active (In general the higher the income is, the better it is)

Cliff Notes

  • Do dailies (Veteran Creature Slayer, Ruins Capturer, Land Claimer, Caravan Disruptor are practically free and easy to do on a highly mobile, stealthy class)
  • Follow Zergs if possible
  • Help capture objectives
  • KIll dolyaks and guards
  • Use Edge of the Mists if your server isn’t active.
  • Find and schedule times to PvDoor
  • Pay attention to RI. Do not fight NPCs surrounded by blue flames.
  • Using the server’s voice comms will help

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

ArchonWing.9480

400 wouldn’t be a bad idea if one had to do it once. But, it would seem like people with alts were not taken into consideration. I’m not even talking like about having 20 alts; just one of each class. It’s kind of like exploring the map in general. It’s fun the first time or so, but when you can do it with your eyes closed because it’s the 9th time, that’s another story.

Sure, we shouldn’t have everything immediately. Sure, elite specs aren’t mandatory. However, when one of the draws of the expansion is all these elite specs, we’ve been severely gated if we want to see a lot the new class mechanics. This is especially true when one’s most frequently played characters (and thus have more points) have terrible elite specs I don’t want to see, such as the Dragonhunter, but that’s an issue for another day.

anyone want to explain to me the point...

Goals:

  • Annoy grinders into limiting their progress so they can’t just get it in 3 days
  • Annoy off and on players so it takes even longer to get their stuff
  • Annoy people who don’t like grinding
  • Annoy people that don’t want vertical progression
  • Annoy people with alts
  • Annoy action oriented people by using the most banal and minimally interactive channel as crafting being the first available option.

This way everyone can be equally as miserable, though the skinner box rats won’t mind since they just care about chasing the next shiny and would defend pulling a lever every day as a valid game mechanic that should be “dealt with”

If you don’t believe me, look how they destroyed all 3 utility infusions in a egalitarian fashion.

Kill the Queensdale champion train.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

For every thread that wants to remove a champ train in Queensdale, there shall be 5 more.

“Paternalism” as I see it is just the view that players are too stupid to think for themselves and needed to be guided if they were little children. Which is too cynical of an approach. And honestly, putting your own viewpoint as for the the greater good is why you shouldn’t use big words like that; it just seems pretentious. I mean I know that’s kind of a problem on these forums, but it’s something that should be fixed.

This “nerf prime farming spot” has been done a lot of times (sup Cursed Shore). The only thing it ever does is kill the area that gets affected, people move on to the next exploitable spot, and there are about 346185760 threads about how it’s impossible to make gold, and honestly how can one put grind in a game and then start removing the ability to do.

So sure, I’ll see to that all champ trains are removed if ascended gear besides trinkets are removed. Nope? It’s here to stay.

In any case, we don’t need nerfs; we need buffs. Buff hard content and buff the rewards. The easymoders can stay where they are; everyone else can go enjoy something else. Teq is a good step in that direction.

Mastery point madness

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ArchonWing.9480

First off, I’d like to say that putting half the points behind a buggy story (my friend cannot advance past Roots of Terror after repeated tries because that moron brahmn cannot be talked to, and yes I felt like ranting about it here), adventures, and raids doesn’t make for a good experience. The strongboxes and insights I felt we needed more because those were actually good, and most of the event ones were decent if not tedious.

  • Salvage Pit
  • Flying Circus
  • On Wings of Gold
  • Ley-Line Run
  • Drone Race
  • Beetle Feast
  • Haywire Punch o Matic

Of these… only one i have been able to get gold one so far is the salvage pit… not even silver one these and other adventures… and the super-mario effect isn’t my idea of fun… to began with

Wings of Gold should be easy as long as you have the gliding mastery. You have way more than enough time to get them, so just glide a bit higher than you need to. Remember that there’s ones at the very top. Remember you have to return those gold things to that collection spot though.

Drone Race is faceroll if you have poison mastery. (Personally, I think they shouldn’t have had bothered with the poison vines at all) This is one I always do if I’m in TD if it’s available and it’s great if it’s a daily. You don’t have to be anywhere near precise. Just keep hitting swiftness and pause for a second or two when you try to speed up those ramps to make sure you point it right.

Ley Line Run is hard, though silver isn’t hard as long as you just jump carefully. You can almost limp to the finish line if you choose. I recently got gold when I gave it a serious try though it was only half a second from not getting gold. Just look up youtube on where to blast ahead.

I’ve only managed a silver on the rest, so not qualified to make any comments about getting gold on them. Flying Circus was pretty tough.

The ones that make me upset are Tendril Torchers (barely got a silver, can’t even imagine getting a gold because I can’t even find enough tendrils), Scrap Rifle Field Test (barely silver), A Fungus whatever (can’t get anything), Sanctum Scramble (the thing is too kitten ed long and one mistake ruins the whole thing— I’ve never finished it), and Shooting Gallery (the worst)

A special mention goes to fallen masks, an another terrible adventure due to that RNG, but thanks to that RNG you can also get silver sometimes even without trying.

In the end, I got enough mastery points to fill out everything besides raids and had 1 extra to get the first Raid one. The raids themselves give MPs, so that problem would solve itself eventually though until then I’ll be bothered with that flashing xp bar.

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

If the gameplay has devolved to where 99% of the game is no longer worth playing beyond login and daily rewards, then I think it’s time to find a new game.

I mean, if most of the game doesn’t even matter to you, then there really is no point bothering to cater a reward system to your needs.

Honestly, I don’t see an argument for lifting the cap beyond you wanting more AP.

That’s not what I said. The game does matter but it does so through the rewards.
I’ve sank 4.6k hours into this game. I’ve done everything a few times over. What keeps me coming back is that next “fix” of cosmetic items, skins, cool things.

I don’t really play GW2 for the “gameplay experience” since I know most of that by heart anyway.
Except for WvW and PvP and Raids the game doesn’t really have “interesting gameplay” to keep me going. I play the same old stuff over and over chasing skins.

I mean, if most of the game doesn’t even matter to you, then there really is no point bothering to cater a reward system to your needs.

Yes there is – because regardless of what matters to me keeping me involved, playing and coming back means you’ll keep me spending money on the game AND spending time – both of which benefit the game.
Money goes towards development. My play time goes toward maintaining a numerous and vital community.

Anet has every reason to want to keep me playing.

But you said

If my daily log-in AP and rewards go away – so might my log-ins.

That would suggest that those things by far trump anything else in the game.

As for the rest, I shrug. I’m glad you’ve spent 4.6k hours to this game though and done mostly everything. But really, so what? You want stuff. And you won’t play if you get it. And it can’t be any reward, but one within your narrow band of interest. (tl;dr rewards useless to you doesn’t necessarily mean it should be changed either)

I mean the argument is rather circular, I would think. It could be used to justify anything. What if I like to kill ambients each day? Should they adjust the reward system to cater to my “loyalty” and to keep me logging in? Why can’t I repeat any achievement? If you can infinitely get AP from dailies, I think I should deserve more from repeatedly making ascended armor.

And honestly, I think there’s a case for making various achievements repeatable….

A response to ~Karl's Epidemic Comment

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Epidemic needs to be reworked, plain and simple.

Bandaids aren’t going to balance this issue.

The skill can be balanced and still be a powerful tool for condi-spikes and carrying out numbered fights.

1st .. the “25” condition cap is broken and not working as intended, we’ve tested this, and the .gif I’ve attached in the OP is proof of this as well. This could easily follow the same condition table as Corrupt Boon https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Corrupt_Boon … and what I mean by this is – it will apply a multiplier from this table as you see it I.E. 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x what’s currently on the table, per Epidemic cast on target, if those conditions exist.

2nd .. the cooldown is way to short, cleanses to counter an EPI spike don’t share nearly the same cooldown I.E. Virtue Of Resolve (when traited, can clear up to 5-conditions on Guard, and 3-conditions on allies); this has a 30-second cooldown whereas Epidemic has a 15-20 second cooldown reduction depending if you trait for it or not. This is just one example. Other examples can be reviewed here .. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition#Skills_that_remove_conditions

3rd .. there’s no clear indication that the Necromancer is channeling such an aggressive skill. A poster in this thread mentioned implementing a floater signaling Epidemic is being cast.

4th .. it’s unblockable, IMHO if you want this to remain unblockable make the core skill blockable, then make it unblockable if it’s traited for; so it doesn’t get abused by power necro specs as well.

Edit: For illuminati reasons, you should know that I mentioned my guild utilizes this skill and coordinates EPI-Spikes on targets. Even against organized groups we’re matched up against, we’re still insta-gibbing 2-3 players minimum on top of the original target. We still intend to use Epidemic after the rework, but the skill as it currently stands is overpowered because of the way it exponentially scales.

- Post of mine from earlier in this thread.

Reasonable Epidemic adjustments

Reduce radius to 240. The current radius is massive and twice the size of Meteor Shower. A radius reduction would be more than okay.

Reduce range to 900. Although this would be a pretty heavy nerf, especially with the radius reduction as well, it would add a bigger risk/reward factor to the skill. Getting close to targets in zerg fights as a Necromancer isn’t a good idea. Reducing the range could promote more skillful decisions.

Disallow it from working on high health NPC’s and siege. It’s not fair to be bouncing so many conditions off of things that normal players cannot survive. This would be a perfectly acceptable change.

What the community wants

Remove it!
Make it transfer only one condition every few seconds!
Quadruple the cooldown!
Increase the cast time!
Long winded rant about how it’s broken and a half baked idea to completely rework the skill so that it functions completely differently and no one ever uses it again because reasons. (You fit this one well).

What ANet will do

Half-listen to the community, knee jerk nerf it to the point that it becomes even more niche than what it currently is.

Community cries that bunker meta is too stong.

Reasonable Epidemic adjustments

  • Limit condi stacks to 25 on players only. Adjust something else for burning and confusion. That helps manage condis globally. They never should have brought the condi changes to anything but NPCs.
  • Disallow epidemic on objects. Just a terrible concept.
  • Nerf Mortar burning (Seriously, what the hell)
  • Make poultry soup and saffron bread also reduce condition damage; invent more food with similar abilities. These things would be useful but haven’t kept up with game changes.
  • Make it blockable; including the actual passing of condis

Questionable Epidemic Adjustments

  • Make Resistance no longer a boon
  • Give more resistance/cleanses to other classes
  • Epidemic Self Cripples too
  • Give resistance or – condi damage to runesets like melandru or hoelbrak.

What Anet will actually do*

  • Epidemic Cooldown reduced to 10 seconds
  • Change the look of condition icons
  • Make some -50% condition damage reduction food that takes Maguuma Lillies to make.

Why was cooking and Jewler left in the dirt?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As for ascended trinkets, they’ve been used as general rewards across the game. Played some fractals? Here are some trinkets. Played PvP and WvW? There are trinkets in reward chests. Explored the new LS3 maps? You can buy trinkets. Logged in? Here are some laurels you can use to buy trinkets. Why do we need jewelers able to craft ascended trinkets and undermine these rewards? They’re already getting saturated in the game.

It’s just a matter of choice. If people don’t want to do fractals or farm unbound magic, they have to wait a while for laurels. WvW isn’t a reliable source of ascended trinkets because the drops are random and typically useless stats.

Right now, Jeweler is a dead end profession and beyond a few specialized recipes and the achievement, a waste of gold. Compared to other professions, it’s the most worthless one because it’s the only profession that cannot make the best of what it was designed for.
