I wouldn’t recommend Deso right now, if you’re looking for good public tags, that supplies good fights and loot, FSP is prolly your best bet, but I bet they have queues whenever a decent pugmander is leading.

Might aswell postpone PPT for that week, especially if you get lopsided RNG MUs.

It’s more individual commanders and players that contribute to PPT, but the objective game? It does take time and effort to upgrade a keep (or even a tower), scout and siege it up to at least T2 or even reset one, especially if you set that goal for your raid.

There’s still no incentive for players to transfer, or even start on lower ranked servers, that’s the problem. Nobody really seems to care much, about making WvW competitvely balanced anyway.
If that happened, we would have MU variation along with balanced MUs, rather than silly stagnation and boredom, from fighting the same servers for weeks and weeks.

Most WvWers I know, WvW first and PvP second, PVE is optional.
WvW is as casual and hardcore as you want to make it, there is so much more of a diverse range of players that make up a part of a WvW community. You have the more hardcore side of WvW Raiding or GvG; fighting other guilds and coordinating with your own Guild to win fights., then there are the roamers, pugs and Commanders, that keep everyday WvW from getting stale – compared to every other content in the game.
I have to say though, the Competitive side of WvW that is PPT and Rankings, has failed to be improved upon, so many Guilds and Players now focus on something like GvG, for good reason.
I’ve been on my Server for the past 2 years and seen it change, I even commanded this one time. In my opinion though, too many Communities go through ups and downs or just fall out of existence, it’s because of Anet’s failure to capatalize on something that is so poular and address the issues with the game mode – which is unique and evolving through player driven initiatives.

The maps aren’t small group friendly, it’s not easy to flip back with a small group, or even K-train, but a blob can easily take a Border and hop, without resistance.
Fights are fine, as long as it’s away from the East/Wind keep, where it’s a bit like EoTM.

S/x thieves usually lack Condi cleanse though.
Infiltrators return used to have no cast time and it also used to be a stun breaker, yes S/D can be a strong sets when it follow the meta , but I don’t think any S/P Build is OP by any standards.

Seriously I’ll repeat this: We did not drop on purpose, we spent months getting steamrolled by Gold League servers like Vizunah and we lost rating points BECAUSE of the rating system, yet there were people working hard to prepare ourselves for the Leagues – even through the drama of Guilds leaving us.
We lost a whole lot of wvw Guilds who left for their own reason, but we only half expected a big PVE influx which has stuck around as we’ve had the momentum; those who want to win the Silver Dolyak and whatever crap you get for winning your League.
Credit has to go out to our commanders for putting up with some of our pugs and taking up the mundane task of night capping/PvD, cause I wouldn’t be able to do it.
There are people who will never have it easier though, once we go back to normal match-ups against “Gold” servers and once there is no AP or rewards to play for, we’ll probably deserve to be a “Silver League” server or one of those servers struggling at the bottom of the Gold, so we’d be a “Golver” League Server (or something..)
We were a truly a strong server back when we were fighting SFR and Vizunah all those months ago, now we just rely on our PUG population to keep up their motivation or for us to find an incentive to get them to learn to play outside the comfort zone, cause which Guilds in their right mind would transfer to us for 1800 gems and with our queues?
The state of wvw doesn’t allow that and the state of our matchups hasn’t allowed that either, because PPT is a flawed system; you can understand why there’s so many Servers that don’t bother playing for it, cause of the need in coverage that skews the score.
During prime time, it’s led to some poor organization and queues, against servers with the luxury of having much more Guilds and no queues to fill a map!
It’s all about the Leagues though which has only brought about more heated debate among communities, who’s fault is it at the end of the day? ArenaNet’s for poorly implementing Season One, while wvw is still imbalanced.
Also what on earth are these Toxic PVE things doing in wvw? Seriously?

They don’t care about small scale balance, but even in terms of large scale fights, the meta can get a bit boring, unless you play different professions. The skill lag can be also insane.

Believe it or not, zerging, even as some players claim Raiding to be, is actually good practice, because it’s a test of your awareness and reflexes, which is important for a Thief.
Trying to stay out of AOE or away from the enemy Melee trains, whilst bursting down squishy or low targets; it’s actually challenging while playing with just around 2k armor.

How to read ANet server ranking (from an EU perspective):
- Very high: queues at reset and maybe short queues during the week. The best night capping team wins the match.
That actually would describe most servers in T1-2 atm , prime time isn’t that busy apart from a couple of guilds and blobs. Night capping doesn’t beat SFR though, it’s a shame PPT is pretty meaningless and not a real measurement of most organized/skilled server.

well I suppose according to the statistics we have focused Deso 55% and BB 45%… must be a case of double teaming… can’t deny that 5% extra focus on Deso. Although in fairness when Deso painted the map blue the other night it was because our commander wanted to take BB keep in ebg…. and when a competent commander took over they had no choice but to focus Deso because there was nothing else to focus on.
Yeah I noticed that, I think it’s fair enough if you focus on us.. we did close the gap a little while you slacked and then BB wants 2nd.
Double teaming is expected on your Home BL’s and on EB is you are the weaker side – earlier this morning mostly everything was wooden so it’s easy to flip unless it’s sieged to the teeth.

I can’t see how you think you are balancing out Thieves survivability by drastically reducing our mobility, especially as we do not have easy access to most boons. unless you run a rune set like Lyssa.
Mobility apart from Stealth, and the upside you get from pairing it with Health Regen under stealth are what helps keeps us alive in big/small scale fights.
Traits like Hard to Catch won’t compensate for the loss of our mobility- Assassins Reward being a GM trait and Scale with Healing Power; it’s a Stat that we hardly pay attention to because it scales badly for thieves.
The Nerfs to our Vigor uptime IMO are over the top along with the increased cast time to Shadow Return/Infiltrator’s Return, Sword mainhand is going to take a big hit to it’s viability- so why not make SR/IR a stun breaker once again?
I can accept the changes to how we Regen our Init, I put 20 into the Trickery line so I don’t really need Quick Recovery, I can always use Infiltrators signet if I need it, but D/P will still be a strong set to use, while Sword Builds may well become even more niche despite the small PW Buff.

EU population is the lowest I’ve ever seen, barely any queues and outnumbered on all borders, apart from EB ofc.
I’m sure it’s similar elsewhere.
Deso has no prime time guilds, Commanders who only tag when they’re bored, only one GvG guild, no other scheduled WvW Guilds raiding, all that’s left is some zombie PPT Guild, but nobody cares about that anymore, other than maybe BB right now.

Well I see not much has changed since I last checked!
As rangerjrd says be glad that we’ve got a fight on our hands compared to the past couple of weeks, relish the challenge either way if we win or lose the matchup.
It’ll all be irrelevant soon as it’s almost over, we’ll soon earn whatever reward we’ve been arguing and fighting over. (I haven’t even done my AP’s..)
In the past we also had well organized wvw Guilds like Coin and FG, aswell as smaller but well known Guilds like AFTL who could always put up a good fight, these days we have CS, EXG, GoD, INVI, TEQ and TLA but these days we often have to tag up, so we may get mixed rep for obvious reasons. Bragging about loot bags seems so March 2013, it’s about WXP Chests!
Gold League or Silver League there will be Guilds, Groups and Individuals putting in hard work for their community.
There is nothing like DVG these days which was mentioned; they covered for most of our coverage when we were in the higher tiers which was alot of work itself, so these guys who do their bit for day and night deserve a break now and again, to enjoy the game or other stuff.
We also have to cover for the lack of wvw knowledge that our pugs have; one day they’ll learn or reroll tetris.
EB looked like a mess when I got on this evening, but double teaming is to be expected and with offensive Siege as it is it’s pretty much hard to defend without numbers, organization and proper scouting.
I saw those Golems walk towards our keep, good thing I wasn’t too fussed cause that wasn’t the most coordinated Golem rush I’ve ever seen, but those Omega’s seem to be trendy.
Later today we’ll likely get hit hard by the patch, I don’ know if it’ll hit you two as hard but we just have to deal with it the best we can, we’ve seen it all before so it means more work for our morning/night crew and more chance for you Gandara.
So yeah with this matchup being so close: less forum wars and accusation throwing at Desolation as usual , go get that ppt, let’s see more epic in-game fights and, may the best server win this week and that Silver Dolyak.
I said I wouldn’t set foot here again

Why do you expect, each and every Guild to be responsible, to show players, how to play? All we want to do is run together with their guild, for 2-3 hours an evening, in coordination with the people we want to play as a team with, without having to do that with player; that won’t invest time in joining a guild, learn to play as a team or learn to run a proper build?
You have Community guilds and pugmanders for that, I’ve been there done that, it’s almost impossible to expect full cooperation and organize everyone in wvw, unless they’re already in a guild.

EU, ded.
Not really, but there isn’t many Prime time guilds left on Deso anymore, the curse of being #1 I suppose
People don’t PPT unless the MU is winnable via PvD IMO, they only defend if they even have manpower, but you don’t need to defend if you tick @ 400-500 each night for 2-3 hours.
Most people just end up staying on EB anyway, or just wait for people to log, there isn’t any investment that people have to put in anymore.

This is a terrible idea as many people mention it would create more elitism, promote the turtle zergs farming kills and would put randoms and pugs at a big disadvantage up against large guild groups as it is already.
I don’t like how capping stuff with little resistance at certain hours heavy influences the score but this would be the wrong way to discourage it. The whole point is the objective/strategy/point tick, not fighting gvg, rvr or gvr. Anet seem content the way it is anyway. We are getting a progression system that rewards the individual player for kills this month anyway.

The lag on EB atm is horrible. I don’t know what you did, but if it’s due to the player cap, it might be a good idea to lower the cap slightly. This was just 2 way fights aswell, at least open field between Guilds, is playable enough, but that’s usually 20v20 or so.

I wish the game was actually balanced for more variation in Large Scale Open field fights, but it’s mostly Zergs running Melee Trains with Ranged AOE unless it’s a random pug composition, even then some Servers have taught their Community to run Blob Trains the same way, but with less Build crafting and coordination of course.
GvG lacks the support and can be toxic to some communities if the Guilds aren’t open minded, PPT brings a Community to work together – sadly it’s a flawed Scoring Metric that doesn’t really show Server Superiority in terms of Strategy and Tactics, it only rewards Servers with more people playing at night or day.

Only when it’s late @ night or prime time, even then on Desolation most borders were outnumbered and Home Border was flipped by RS/JS, only for Deso to tick high at night.
It’s time to do something about night capping, or fill population gaps somehow, competitively WvW is pointless, or always has been really.

Player wise the Community here has counted on the PVE side of things – which boosted our Player population, especially when there’s a WvW Tournament going on.

There’s not many tags these days, still got a big night crew if someone leads, but that’s all, could care less about the state of PPT, unless the new scoring system is any better, there’s needs to be Open tags and numbers on tag, to actually fight these blobs; at least on EB.
Links are a temporary fix, it’s not really what I think is the best solution, people are jumping ship from RoS afaik, linked to SFR aswell. Players need incentive to actually transfer to Deso, but it’s 1800 gems.

Gandara is also full of roaming groups, who attack any number of roamers or players they run into. Basically there’s probably more challenge to duel against anyone with builds that aren’t cheese, than solo roaming against random brainless pugs, but then again you have to realize WvW or even PvP, is not really balanced for 1v1s either.
But seriously, those troll solo roaming builds are not that good either, like those Nike Warriors and SA Thieves running about.
So you better have a group willing to run with you even if, some coordinate on TS, try blobbing or find an organized WvW/GvG Guild.

@gensokyo It wasn't pretty on BB Borderlands I have to admit, we had too many Squishies. Too much match-up talk anyway .
And don’t listen to people saying we’re giving up already due to past events, most of Deso is going to try to Fight and Compete. The only problem is we lost quite alot of our Population after the initial Tournament influx, which may be alot of PVE’ers but you know strength in numbers is quite important in WvW.

Two months to relink, is too long at this rate, but your not going to stop that revolving door of transfers once they relink, unless there’s tighter. There isn’t the population left to spread out as there used to be, some servers should be probably be merged, it would work out better.

You see I don’t mind GvG’s but seriously you can still play to win and have good fights plenty of guilds do both, sure you may face blobs often but it’s still enjoyable to try different tactics, cooperate with everyone else and take objectives for the points game when there is resistance ,even night capping is quite ‘hardcore’ in a sense.
When guilds are looking for fame rather than helping their community that’s a problem Anet has to figure out, there’s a time and place for GvG’s there should be less Elitism and more unity..
Guild Wars 2 has no GvG so it isn’t a reference towards that it has wvw which can be casual and hardcore as you make it, again I’ll say there’s a time and place for that and Anet needs to add some sort of GvG mode while the rest can still fight for their server.

Not all worlds will be linked, the problem with content like this, the influx of players it’s mostly short lived, like WvW/PvP seasons. Lower pop servers probably won’t notice much themselves (until the links happen), most players are already on higher ranked servers.

In my opinion the overall issue with thieves, and why we continue to see these kinds of threads, is that they are extremely good at killing bad players as the skill cap for fighting a thief is higher then that of playing the basic thief.
Nothing about WvW encourages people to play better. No incentive to learn their class or to learn other classes. The vast majority of the players in WvW spend most of their night following a taco, stacking when told, blasting and dropping combo fields when told, running gear and abilities they were told to run.
Their play is dismal and it creates an environment where even bad thieves can be successful.

Despite this night capping I don’t think we want to increase our chances of fighting Vizunah, especially for the first time in consecutive weeks we get Abaddon’s Mouth who are lower ranked but at least it’s a new opponent. Prime time on Piken BL was interesting despite the lag the huge battles were epic, it was nice to meet SPRT and your big guild group running again we also had a good amount of EXG and FG around but not so many pugs and the blobs were insane
Let me just say this we were complaining about being outnumbered on anything but our home BL after many of us took a well earned rest and blobbing which is the wvw meta yet look at things now.
I’m going to enjoy this matchup as much as possible, we will still play for the win but I think many of us want to win it the right way; so we also want to fight for the points.
We don’t want leave the impression that we are like Viz: it’s no excuse to say we had to endure them for months.
I don’t think there’s a need for Karma trains that steamroll through objectives every night during this matchup, like Viz ‘bullies’ others who lack the coverage; it’s just not that fun.
The fact is we have many guilds besides FG who only just re-joined, INVI, GoD and Unit that has much to learn against servers with several organized guilds who also communicate and cooperate better not all are in the alliance though, we have my guild who is semi hardcore in the process of improving ourselves and others who just formed in the last 1-2 months.
We all know how important the pugs are but whether they’ll be here in the long run who knows, we’ll lose keep and towers and get wiped at times but it’s a learning process we have to go through so bear with us.

Morning/Night capping takes effort esp on our part, but not really skill just coordination and communication.
