If thiefs steal from a pet, they should get a 30% damage penalty and permacripple. There is nothing else you could steal from a ranger pet.

Should posts about general profession balance, that are not tied to one specific profession only, go into General Discussion?
Guild Wars 2 Discussion, yes.
So you’re saying that the Profession Balance Subforum is a failure? Not that I would say otherwise but it’s interesting to see this decision being made, keeping in mind that the subforum got created 10 months ago. The issues this subforum has will stay and get carried onto other subforums.
If there is yet another thread about 100b/backstab/rapid fire being over powered, an official response is needed, just scraping the subforum wont help.
There were multiple people getting upset that ANet added in events into the story that have to be done also. So you’re neither the only one crying, nor the only stance on this matter.
I personally like the way they try to live up to their personal story. Also, fights vs. 1-5 players can be balanced way better, which makes them more challenging, thus more fun for the most players, than they can balance open world events.
Not to mention that if they would focus on events rather than instances, we only would get events where the whole server has to participate, like we have to already in drytop.
So all in all I’m way more pleased with this season than the last season.
I haven’t even done LS2 yet – I was hoping for more zones to be opened, but when all w got was Dry Top, I was disappointed.
“I wanted more zones to play in, saw they only added one new zone, which isn’t as many as I wanted, so I’m not even going to play it…”
People want expansions. ArenaNet has said that they going to do the Living World instead of an expansion. People still expect expansion-like content. What’s wrong about that?
The Living World focuses around story instead of new maps or new things to do.
Sadly the story is very bad. Many people are not pleased with the outcome and insist that if ANet would’ve done expansions instead, the game would be better.
… I hope they’ll let me use my old green and yellow tokens to buy the old weapon skins.
Right now they’re definitely catering to the Vaynes of the playerbase. I wonder if they’ll ever change that.
And I’m a little bit puzzled by your last sentence. I’m not a native english speaker and the meaning is beyond my grasp.
In terms of story? GW2 is better than Max Payne 3, and probably any Call of Duty and Halo overall. In terms of presentation of that story, probably only on par. (That’s something which annoys me to no end, mind you. The Living Story has gotten better at presentation, so let’s hope the writing catches up.)
I really have to disagree with you in every single game mentioned. All those games, or atleast some of them, had a story which made me curious. The GW2 story, for the most part, did not.
It’s a matter of taste, but the GW2 story was a never-ending pain for the most part for me.
As for the downed state, they should just add an option to get used to the downed state skills. A simple tipp would be enough.
After that Ready Up episode I kinda fear that they’re in the everything is fine with the rangers or the we just have to adjust some levers mood.
No, in fact that is the thread I’m referring to. Great!
I’ve checked the CDI sub several hours ago, back then the thread was missing.
However I’m glad they’ve added it. It was missing all the time in the sticky post aswell, so I was wondering if they want to sweep the thread under the carpet.
One of the reasons for the meta we’re still seeing with Zerker is mentioned in this video, that there’s not enough of a difference between stats to make them useful.
No, no and no. We had a discussion about that already in the dungeon subforum and the problem is not that the different stats are weak, the combat system works fine.
The problem is that the encounters aren’t well designed. There is literally no boss in this game which can’t be killed as zerker because the most bosses aren’t punishing enough.
An example of a failed boss encounter is the first boss of CoF p1, which is meant to apply heavy melee pressure, further intensified by the quickness he gains if his health drops under a certain threshold. 5 zerker players are simply faster killing him than he is in killing them.
An example of a good boss encounter is lupicus, which is extremely hard to beat if you don’t know what to do, thus it might be better for you to run tankier gear. However if you’re familiar with lupicus, you can still use zerker gear.
Oh I love jumping. In fact, GuildWars 2 is one of very few games which makes great use of the jumping mechanic. I even wish we could jump and climb more, like on every single mountain on all maps.
Wait… this thread is against jumping? Oh… jumps away
They are killing the only part about the story I really liked: Doing the story when you, the player decide to to it. Now I can’t even do that.
That’s a really stupid move from them.
Thanks for agreeing with me that right now forging precursors is cost intensive.
That was never in doubt by anyone, the point is that it doesn’t have to be.
Right now, you can pay 100 bucks for gems to buy a precursor.
Give me 1 reason why Anet should devaluate their product just because they have the posibility to do so?For their reputation. I myself don’t buy any gems because I think their game is, at its current state, not worth my money and I’ve seen dozen of threads with many players claiming the same. And the acquisition of precursors isn’t exactly a poster child for this game.
It’s not that it should be particulary easy, but a clear goal rather than just a RNG chance would be cool. No, that would actually damage their reputation. There is a very real effect where people associate quality with value. If Anet were just giving away stuff for almost nothing after the valuation they have put on their items, I would have VERY real concerns about the state of the game.
Where did I say I want precursors for free? Seriously, where did you get that nonsense from? I’m questioning their way of acquiring precursors, not the time one needs to get precursors.
Anet has mentioned previously that their metrics tell them that we don’t like Dynamic Events, and don’t do them. That’s why none have been added since September 2012.
If so, they are simply stupid. Have they never considered that running a 15min dungeonpath for 1 gold is more satisfying than doing 15 events for 2 silver each?
what im saying is.. if we had more frequent Feature patchs.. for example once every month or 2..
our playerbase would be alot Bigger.
players would feel like we are getting content and new things. it feels like a safe money/ time investment.
You have to be more specific. A faster patchcycle wont help if they don’t have anything to add. What you’re suggesting is that they have to enlarge their staff, which means that they have to hire way more employees. They have to test things more in a smaller timeframe and foremeost, they have to make more money to pay all that employees. So you’re saying, and frankly so would I, that if they would add more things and fix flaws faster, they would make more money, both because this game would have more active players and because those players would spend more money.
But you have to convince the managers at NCSoft too. And it seems that this game, atleast from their perspective, is doing fine.
I don’t like the change. Because of that blueish glow I can’t spot which rarity the items have.
Well, this was funny…
Now I’d like to play without that huge head getting in my way… >_>
Sure, maybe it’s in the april fools spirit to annoy people, but do you really have to annoy them for hours with the SAME joke?
Why don’t you just take a step back and enjoy it for one day? Do you lose so much?

Grabs popcorn, sword is fine
Grabs shotgun, I hate those guys…
We have enough inherent evades to compensate for the lack of defense we’re pushed into during a sword AA chain. It’s all about learning and adapting.
Just because you can work around a flaw doesn’t make it less of a flaw. The Sword isn’t working fluently. And no matter how much you repeat yourself, it wont get any better.
I’m not someone who likes gambling on keys, but I couldn’t not have a shot at such a fashionable prize! …..
….thus endeth the lesson….
Gotta hand it to Anet.
Well there’s nothing wrong with buying gems if you can afford it. If you stop buying food to instead buy gems to try for a chance at an item that in the end is meaningless to anyone but you while you play a cyber-game… well, THEN you have a problem. And let’s face it, 99% of the GW2 population can’t afford to shell out 3500g (in game wealth) for one item, cuz… nerfs.
Purchasing gems isn’t the issue, gambling is, and it is incredibly stupid no matter how much money you have.
Well buying a stock is a gamble. Warren Buffet must be a complete moron.
Except with BL chests you can’t say: “I expect hair kits to rise today after X business thing happens.”
You can. I expect hair kits to rise to very high prices at the end of this 2 weeks. The fact that they exist to be dropped right now tells buyers that there might be some out there. So in 2 weeks they will start increasing their bids until they get their hands on one.
Unless the drop rate is increased I don’t see this item getting any cheaper than it is now. I suspect it will rise higher and higher and plateau at a price that people will just… not pay. So I’m not sure what price that is, but it will likely be over 5k.
I personally find it disgusting that there are obviously people out there who can afford to spend more than 5k gold just like that. Where did those people get so much gold from? I expect those people have everything they want already, exept the hair stylist, since there is no point of not buying the things you want with so much gold.
So I keep asking myself why there are those people in this game, which calls itself to be casual oriented, that can make so much more gold than everybody else.
To anyone making the argument: “Business exist to make money,” I have to say you are falling into a logical pitfall here.
Businesses exist to provide a good or service to us. Their objective is not (or rather should not) to fleece their customers as much as possible while doing as little as possible. That is considered a parasite to society.
It boils down to: “Are you making games to make money? Or are you making money to create games?” The former is contemptuous while the latter is not.
You can learn more about it here.
You make something, be it a game or what ever to sell and make money. Sometimes theses things start out of love to do these things. But ultimately it’s to make money. Some company’s are not so in your face about it. But they all want to make money. Look at how much WoW must make. £10 a month sub x what is it 7 million players? Go on tell me they are not in it for the money.
Making money out of a product you have created, especially if you plan to live from it’s revenue, is logical.
To maximise the revenue at the cost of client satisfaction is not.You have a choice not to play GW2. If you are not satisfied go play other games. Of course maximizing their profit is their goal. If people are not satisfied, they’ll leave the game. The only reason they havn’t be milking us that badly is because they dont’ want to many people to leave the game.
Maybe, just maybe, I’m on the forums to improve the game, so I can enjoy the game for the next year. I’m not on the forums to be told that I have to leave the game to make a change.
And did you swing your sword again?
I’m finally fed up with the pet. It’s is nothing but a complete handicap.
- Ranger has less damage
- 24 traits dedicated to the pet
- several utility skills dedicated to the pet (shouts & signets)
- pet keeps Ranger in combat
- worthless in WvW outside of capturing supply camps
- worthless in PvE against champion-level mobs
They should get rid of the Ranger pet, it’s a worthless mechanic. I’d take any other class mechanic over it.
The pet has no strengths that make up for all its weaknesses
So you think it’s a weakness having the ability to damage your opponent while dodging and avoiding damage alogether?
I don’t see it listed as a weakness, do you?
Well, that’s what the pet can do for you. You listed the pet as a ‘glaring weakness’. People need to come to realize that the ranger will never be without a pet, and should learn to use it to their advantage rather than build around it as if it doesn’t exist.
The pet also runs around every little obstacle. It also deosn’t anticipate the enemy’s movements or skill usage. It does furthermore activate it’s own skills randomly whenever the pet gets the chance to do so. It doesn’t cleave, it doesn’t dodge, it doesn’t position itself properly, it has latency, it has no tactic whatsoever.
Finally, it eats up your damage by 30% without to ensure that it can deliver that 30% when you need it.
All that the pet does. Or does not. Just for you.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, MonMalthias.4763! This post is exactly what we talk about when we mention formatting and concise feedback. Even though it’s a lot to take in, you do a great job of separating the ideas and making it easy to navigate.
I will be passing this on to the team to think about!
This post shows me once more how much faith I’ve lost in ArenaNet. Your post should make me happy and convince me that ArenaNet can learn from their mistakes. However, I just heard this sentence “Great post, I will pass this on to the devs” way too often to be convinced. Please Allie, prove me wrong!
check this out for an idea of what it means to pass things on to the devs
meh.. its kinda allies job to liaise between the devs and the community
Wow, thats… scarry. So Allie is the only one in the company who is responsible for the thread? I don’t demand Allie to read all the posts alone, much less understanding all those. I actually expected a team to handle the thread, so no suggestion gests lost or misinterpreted. But if it’s just Allie, I have just little hopes to see good changes.
I mean, ArenaNet has the data but we, the players, have the experience. So I think, if you want to fix something broken, ask those guys who deal with it every day…
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
I really do like this idea, even though I think many things, especially dungeons, have to be adjusted to this change.
I don’t think so.
None of the dungeons in the game have been specifically designed with stacking in mind.
NPCs should of course still not collide with each other because that would require too many calculations, but instead have the AI simply avoid each others’ hitboxes and when in melee, circle their target zergling style to find an open space if possible, or simply clip through and attack like now if the target is already surrounded or otherwise inaccessible.Simple.
Well, as Flissy already pointed out, stacking is a valid tactic, a messy one, but still. We would need more effective ways to kill things. I’m also fearing an “AoE or go home”
meta if implemented wrong.
What I wonder about is this: What if someone says something is coming “in the next couple of days” or “within the next week” or “by the end of the month” and then testing reveals an issue that delays the implementation? Would you rather hear something rather specific, like “in the next couple of days,” even while you know that it could change for reasons outside our control? Or would you rather hear “soon” and not have as solid an expectation, but also take on board that the implementation is a top priority (as was mentioned in the thread about the Currency Exchange changes)?
I’m definitely in favor of the former option, you could even name exact dates for certain releases, as long as you keep us informed if it’s gonna be delayed. I would not have any problems with this and I’m sick of this annoying soon™ joke which is going around.
Quick reminder for ANet:
Fix town clothes! The tonics are horrible and I don’t believe you ran into serious issues while trying to convert them. There is no excuse for their current state.
Also, Outfits shouldn’t be the way of ANet delivering new skins. They can’t be mixed, which undermines the purpose of the wardrobe.
Not sure why people are kittened at Anet. Key farming was here a lot longer than it was supposed to be. Anet was shooting themselves in the foot by having it in game for so long.
It’s about time we have weapon prices that are now in line with the risk of gambling on buying keys. It was a market inefficiency that had to be corrected.
Yeah, if you want to kill your game most effectively, you should lock all your new weapon skins and armor skins behind paywalls, that’s the perfect way to go.
I feel like I’m the only one around here who recognized that GW2 operated on a system where you would have to pay for extra vanity/skins. Thank goodness we don’t have to pay for extra stats.
And I guess we can completely ignore the currency exchange just to suit your argument
Oh yeah, wonderful argument. All players are completely capable of dumping 18g for one key. /sarcasm
Guild Wars 2 is pay2win by their own definition. The “endgame” doesn’t resolve around getting better gear but more skins. And almost every armor- or weaponskin they’ve added is locked behind a paywall.
