…
This exactly. You say we have soo much dungeons? We got 8. And we got them since 2 years now. They’re stale and not challenging at all. The only reason to still repeat them is to get the gold.
Fractals are not as old as dungeons and can be challenging, but that’s by far not enough to keep people interested for multiple years.
You say we got temporary content? Good, what can I do with it now? Exactly, nothing, it’s gone.
All PvE maps have no reason to be explored twice. There is no reson at all gameplay-wise to go back to Timberline Falls or Snowden Drifts.
We got a worldboss chain, which can be parted into waiting till the boss spawns and pressing 1 till the boss dies. So where exactly is the challenge? Why should I do that day by day for months?
The only endgame this game has is to either join any sort of PvP and seek for challenge (which gets complicated if we factor in the messed up balance) or to farm gold to get gems or legendaries or other fluff. There is no challange, no incentive to repeat the content other than to get the gold. Literally.
The only other “endgame” activity I can think of is to get achievvement points. That is one thing, I wonder how long this will keep the player interested.
It is not like this game is bad, it offers so many possibilities. But those don’t get picked up by the devs and I’m slowly but surely sick of waiting.
It’s nice to hear that atleast some members of the ANet staff think that this game is good how it is. But that doesn’t change my feeling that this game is lackluster.
Proposal Overview:
Guild Villages
Goal of Proposal:
Add housing, give Guilds more reason to exsist
Proposal Functionality:
Add Housing, add a showroom for guild achievements, add a blackboard for announcements and such.
Associated Risks:
Players need to have a guild to have access to housing. (?)
Guild Village could be rather big if there are 500 member in one guild.
Sooo… what’s with the suggestion of fixing the former town clothes? There are still tonics in my bank which are waiting to be transformed back into skins.
I feel like the biconics have taken way too much space in the living world so far. Rox and Braham should’ve left once the molten alliance got stopped. Majory and Kasmeer should’ve left after they’ve solved the murder. Taimi should’ve been sent back to Rata Sum long time ago. Each of those characters should make a comeback once we really need them, not stay with us the entire time. This way all those character would fit in the story and not feel like forced on us, like they’re now.
I think storywise the living world suffers from the exact opposite the personal story suffered from. In the personal story, characters got introduced we never saw again. That’s probably because different teams did the writing for each 10-level arc. The one team introduces characters, the next team wont use. The living world got written by only one team and this team only uses the same characters over and over.

This wont be toned down because it’s intended.
Seriously, if noone at ANet saw that coming then it’s their own fault.
There is one simple rule to follow: The game doesn’t offer anything for the players with proper rewards, so anything that is more rewarding will be farmed like crazy.
And this will be the case until ANet fixes their economy, which is way too gold reliant at the moment. Having everything aviable on the TP is bad.
Seriously, I don’t want to refund the clothes which got converted to tonics. I want them to be fixed. This is complete nonsense. They shouldn’t break a working system, replacing it with a much worse one and justify this with “we couldn’t do better”. If you can’t do better, then leave it.
They broke my Santa. :’(
Remember that they are DECREASING gold sinks. No longer will you need to purchase multiple gem store sets, weapons, repair armor, etc. That translates to HUNDREDS of gold saved over the course of a year.
Don’t cry just yet because you’re getting 1s less per Champ bag/event. You can and likely will still farm the kitten outta them, so relax.
Don’t forget that this is also an on-going project: they will continue to tweak and balance the game so that ALL aspects are rewarding(perhaps not ideally equal, but hopefully close).
Did you even read the thread? We don’t talk about the championbags. We talk about the event loot. And as you may have noticed, the loot isn’t worth farming. They also wont decrease the gold income. The trading post can still be flipped, dungeons can still be used to get gold. Why sould you do events for 1s, if you can run dungeons for 1g? They don’t decrease the gold income, they just cut diversity.
Why are there still spore events out there?

So Scarlet has been defeated, we’ve celebrated an awkward party, all her minions are magically gone, so why the heck are there still spore events out there?
If there is one area ArenaNet really shines in, then it is in fixing problems by using the sledgehammer method.
I just want to remind why we have now town clothes tonics: Because they ran into technical issues converting the town clothes into real armor.
That’s bugfixing à la ArenaNet.

Human stupidity is OP.
As Albert Einstein already said: Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about th’universe!
@ Vayne:
I’m sorry, but I have to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-On3Ya0_4Y
That is what you are defending.(It’s not my video, I just found it on reddit and it might show… some problems with the new system)
This doesn’t “do anything” to me. I’m not sure why you think it could. Let’s see, a guy with a nice voice, who is dripping with sarcasm tries to make a patch look stupid with opinions. I’m not quite through with it yet, but at least some of it I have to question immediately. Like not being able to die in the tutorial instance. That’s not knew because I’ve known about that for like a year. Except that the video is attributing it to this patch. So, if you don’t have your facts correct to start with, why should I believe the rest of it?
The reason I think they did that is because there are no waypoints in the tutorial, btw.
All this does is show me a guy who doesn’t get it.
To be sure not every single change is going to be perfect. I don’t think that the elite needs to be held off until 40, but the truth is, it makes very very little difference in the game to me. Very little.
But all the little things I’m getting while getting up to forty make a quite nice difference in the game for me.
So what made you think that video would affect me at all?
He doesn’t have to make the patch look stupid, the patch is stupid. Plain and simple.
I die because:
(1) A herd of players runs over me
(2) A good player forces me to use dodges and defensive cooldowns … and then hits me with what he really wanted to hit me with.
(3) I waste dodge/defensive cooldowns and get punished for it when something big hits me.I don’t die because some player presses #2 while using a Ranger longbow.
This exactly. You die because 5 rangers pewpew you? Suck it up, you would’ve died to 5 players anyway, no matter what professions they use. The only difference is that those 5 players don’t have to run up to you.
Hi All,
I am up to date with the conversation. We are discussing your thoughts internally and continuing to work on the story steps. Once I have some more new I will update the thread.
Meanwhile I just want to communicate with certainty that NPE was not implemented in order to increase monetization from the BLT. It was designed for brand new players to the game. And it is for that reason that we are working with you to understand how to better refine the system.
Chris
Chris
I know you’ve probably read this already or are already aware about it, but please think about this.
Why has each new character to overcome the leveling process, when you only want to educate new players?
New players might need help with the game mechanics once, but not every time they create a new alt.I think every character made once a character hits level 80 should get a free level 20 scroll, and every level 20 scroll should instead turn into a random mini.
In the case of people who have hit 1/2 years of age, allow them to trade their scroll for a miniature box of some sort. For people that already used their scrolls, well – at least they got use out of them. Cut losses and let it ride.
P.S. The NPC that will trade scrolls for minis will look up character age, so someone couldn’t keep trading in scrolls by making new characters.
Your idea deals with the problem that many players don’t enjoy leveling. It gives them the opportunity to simply “skip” this part. I think that this is the wrong approach. People should be able to enjoy leveling. So first we have to determine why players don’t like leveling. The most obvious answer would be that it’s tedious and not rewarding.
Players try to make gold to get the things they want. Doing the personal story, or completing maps isn’t very rewarding. So I think that the reward porcess should be altered instead of giving players the opportunity to skip all the boring or unsatisfying stuff.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
Now about how I would fix the problems I’ve listed earlier:
Add
- An optional tutorial, accessible from the character select screen, which treats:
- Weapon skills, healing skill, utility skills, elite skills
- Dodge mechanic
- Downed mechanic and downed skills
- Class mechanics
- Objectives on maps (Renown Hearts, Events, Vistas, Skillpoint challenges, Diving Goggles, POIs and stuff)
- Gathering and traiding
- Lots and lots of tooltips for all things listed above
Keep
- Rewards for leveling
- New renown hearts
- Faster leveling process (I personally don’t like that but many do)
Remove
- Bundled story steps
- Everything that was accessible before and got locked with the NPE changes
The problem is not that the gem shop gets consistent updates. The problem is that the gem shop gets all the fun stuff.
We get the Living Story, which is even if the story is great only a one-time experience.
We get new maps which suffer from the same problems as the old maps.
We get some new skins, which are heavily grind- or RNG-gated.
The gem store gets skins, skins, skins, useful tools and skins. And everybody just wants these things. No wonder that people get upset with the gem store releases.
It’s time to bring this thread back from the dead, because for the love of Gaile Gray, we don’t want to create attention-grabbing multiposts.
The new Destiny’s Edge suffers from a phenomena I’ll call the Anti-Trahearne phenomena.
Back in the days many players hated Trahearne, a hate I can only partially agree with.
ArenaNet acknoledged this and I’ve even seen dev posts along the lines of „We don’t want to create a Trehearne v2“
The most common complaint that ArenaNet picked up was that it felt like playing through Trahearne’s story instead of their own.
The secondary character Trahearne has too much lore tied to him, so our lore does fall short, that was the complaint they were getting.
The new cast, the Biconics do have almost no story attached to them, they don’t even have a real explanation why they’re following us around. Ofcourse, Marjory and Kasmeer want to know why Theo Ashford died, but that’s a rather bad explanation why they’re following us around since over a year now. Braham and Rox have also responsibilities they have to meet. Braham has a village to rebuild and to establish his legend while Rox could’ve been part of Rytlock’s warband.
Instead they always follow us around now, opposed to the Living Story where we followed Trahearne. Problem now is that the story arc of Trahearne isn’t the real problem and that the anti-Trahearne behavior of the new cast is by far no advantage.
The real problems Trahearne has is that his voiceacting is pretty bad. He’s the Dinklebot of GW2. Furthermore is he as NPC utterly weak. The biggest problem however is that our story falls short while Trahearne is around. His story arc isn’t the problems but our lack thereof.
The Biconics have the same problem, just the other way around: Their story does fall short as long as we are around. All of the DE v2 characters are fine as long as they stay in their own story, but since they’re following us around like puppets they’re annoying. This and the facts Shriketalon already mentioned lead to the problems they suffer from now.
So in conclusion, while ArenaNet tried to avoid the mistakes they’ve made with Trahearne, they’ve created the same kind of problems.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
Praise the lord and ANet if they finally are able to get a potent AI.
That would solve half the problems I have with the current state of the game.
It would be a huge step if the AI would not only act but also react.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
I’m sorry that this isn’t the discussion you’ve hoped for prysin, but it’s common belief that the pet is flawed simply because it’s an AI. You (and, as you’ve claimed, ANet) don’t want to remove the pet? I’m completely fine with that. But give the pet another purpose then dealing damage. I am completely capable of dealing damage, I don’t need an AI to do that for me. Furthermore should the AI help me dealing damage by CC and debuffing the enmy and by buffing me. If I recall correctly, you said in your livestream that it would be insane if Sic’Em would work for the ranger. So what about a pet that, instead of dealing damage, buffs you like Sic’Em does buff your pet?
Because it’s perfect business sense.
A game is not a business. Players can’t be seen as money source. Ofcourse they have to make money. But if they see the player only as a way to make money, the game isn’t any better as a F2P title from EA.
A game is a business. Players are a money source. The birth of Pay for DLC made this happen, phone App games with in app percheses made this happen. EA just do it more more than others, and don’t try to hide it.
I advice you to never create a game.
I have no plans too. But consumers have made game companies see this as ok. I remember when you get new maps and such for game for free. These days you pay something like £15 for 3 maps. Ten years ago they would be a free update. I just don’t see why people act surprised my game company’s milking there player base.
I’m not surprised. But I wont sit still either. The fact that BLC keys could be farmed was the only saving grace for me. With that gone, I wont accept this bold method of making money.
Maybe, just maybe, I’m on the forums to improve the game, so I can enjoy the game for the next year. I’m not on the forums to be told that I have to leave the game to make a change.
And since I have a background in business, I’m here on the forums to educate people that the more profitable and successful NCSoft/Anet is, the more us players will benefit in the long run. If I have to spend thousands of $ over the life of the game to support a company that I like, I have no issues.
If they ask for money to develop new content, I’ll give them money. If they want me to pay for RNG, screw them, I won’t do that.
No one has a gun to your head forcing you to open BLC’s. These not right? If there is blink twice and I’ll send help.
As I already said, skins are the main goal in this game. So you either have to dumb a lot of gold or pay to progress.
Sorry I thought having fun was the main goal for a game. I don’t see skins as the main goal. I personally only like a handful of skins in Guild Wars 2, and I have them all bar two. The eligant guild back item, and the Flameseeker Prophercies. The rest I’m quite happy to leave.
Having fun is the goal of every game ever created…
So it’s not getting skins then……..
How do you create “fun”?
Not my job to create fun. That’s ANets job. They made the game. So playing the game it’s self should be fun, and ideally rewarding. If you find fun in RNG boxes, then stop wasting time here and go farm keys while you still can.
I’ve already said that RNG is not fun, it’s rather “anti-fun”. Having to pay only to get a RNG gamble is the very definition of not fun.
…you’re a bad ranger…
…you’re a bad ranger…
Stop it, immediately! The ranger is subpar to the warrior. Period. That doesn’t mean that the warrior always wins or that a selfclaimed proplayer is able to win the most fights as ranger vs. warriors. But it means that the warrior has to invest less skill and less effort to beat a ranger than a ranger has to invest to beat a warrior.
I reckon; “Gain 3s of Aegis whenever you swap weapons in combat, weapon swapping is 30% faster.” Fits in nicely with the other swapping traits in skirmishing and also fulfils the defence part of the trait name. Choosing it would then give swiftness, fury and aegis on swap every 6s. IMO, ranger needs more boon traits such as this. My $0.02.
I don’t think Aegis fits the ranger, especially not on weaponswap.
1) You have to be in combat to make use of this trait, so not an option for the initial engagement.
2) Aegis on 6 sec. cd is way shorter than the guard Aegis.
3) You have to make the decision if you want to block an attack or if you want to stay on your current weapon, which isn’t optimal.
Thanks for the feedback, folks. I appreciate your comments and will say that consistent, complex, nuanced characters and storytelling are absolutely my goal as well. I’m soaking up all the existing story that I can, via gameplay, wikis, our novels, and lots and lots of conversations with my coworkers who have great insights (and opinions) on our expansive lore. I really love the game and am excited to be a part of it moving forward. Keep the comments coming!

(now with fancy, red ANet banner)
Please, if you can (I obviously don’t know how much impact you have on the future story telling), try to bring back some “old” characters like Laranthir of the Wild and shift the focus away from the biconics.
You can find a whole thread about the previous problems of the Living Story here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/The-Biconics-cannot-carry-the-GW-Franchise/first
EDIT: This basically sums up all the problems I have with the LS.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
What were your favorite narrative moments? What did you like about the content? About the way it was told? And of course, I want to hear what you think we can still do better on.
Trahearne was very well written and the whole representation of the pact was cool. I would like to do more stuff with the pact, I want to get the feeling that there is a whole army marching towards Mordremoth. Ofcourse, the scout mission was cool too but I would like to have both.
The library was excellent and I hope it will be made aviable outside the storymission too. I also hope that the library gets expanded every now and then. I also hope that some minor things in the world change. Some authors of the books we could read are still alive and I hope that they get more dialogue options based on those books they’ve wrote. I also would like to see some minor improvements like the guards in the Omphalos Chamber have still their standard dialogue eventhough the dialogue doesn’t fit anymore.
But I don’t know why Marjory knew everything about Glint. That did throw me off but I might’ve missed the explanation for that one (other than her mother told her).
On a final note, I hope we don’t have to wait another two years to get more detail regarding the carpet in the library.
While I understand the obvious technical reasons for it, I’m still a little bothered by the fact that we’re never mentioned by name. Even as Ellen Kiel introduces us to the Zephyrite leader along with all the others, each of the NPCs is mentioned by name. The PC, however, is “And their leader.”
LOL! I know what you mean. You have no idea how hard it is to try to make that sound natural when we can’t use the PC’s name in voiced content. I could write a whole dissertation on it. Believe me, I wish we had that technology. It’s not an easy thing to create though. Quite complex, and very unlikely to ever sound natural. I think it would end up being more immersion breaking than the nicknames we use for your character now.
P.S. You may feel you don’t matter to the game world, but you do matter to us at ArenaNet.
I think the best idea would be to give the player a nickname (based on gender, race and class, mixed with some RNG and several nicknames for each constellation). Southpark: The stick of truth did this and I think it worked out very well.
P.S. Please, tell this your coworkers, just participate more like this in all kinds of threads, the forums would be so much more enjoyable with devs actually responding to questions.

Proposal Overview
Achievements and Monthlies for Guilds
Goal of Proposal
Encourage playing with guildmates and give guilds a reason to exsist outsite of guild missions.
Proposal Functionality
There should be achievements and monthlies that can be done by guilds.
Those should not require guild missions and shouldn’t favor large guilds too much.
There should be however a minial number of people required participating (5 maybe) to complete the quests. The size of each quest should be larger based on the number of active guildmembers.
Examples
“complete X eventchains”, “secure X area (do all events in that area atleast once)”, “press X buttons on different places simultaneously (not as hard as guild trek)”, “capture and claim X objectives in WvW/EotM”, “hold X objective atleast for Y hours in WvW/EotM”, “win atleast one GvG”, “perform an epic dance battle vs. another guild”, “commit mass suicide (all have to jump off a cliff because… why not?)”
Associated Risks
Errr… Some achievement grinder will be sad probably.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
It’s time to bring it back.
I miss it.
I want to play it.
Why can’t we permanently have it?
What do you want to do with it? Once you obtained all you can get, you’ll hardly, if ever, revisit the SAB.
The forums have slowed down… I’m refreshing every time, waiting for something enlighting, funny or stupid. But nothing happens…
Because teef would sound silly.
I agree with you. Suggestions would be wonderful: Practical, reasonably expressed, and clear. Here’s the challenge, and we’ll see if it’s possible and reasonable: Share your opinion about how to improve the end game in (roughly) 100 words or less.
As I’ve already said in another post, before it got deleted because of insulting language (o.O?), I would split the endgame updates into 3 parts: Updating open PvE, updating dungeons and new content.
Open PvE:
- Local currencies for all maps
- Currency should span multiple maps (one for Ascalon, 1 for Kryta, …)
- No time-gated reward (These ranks in Drytop are terrible)
- Meaningful reward, stuff that you would want to buy more than just one time
Dungeons:
- Casual Mode focusing on the story
- Hardmode for challenge/reward
- New AI’s for all bosses, who can also react to player actions
New Stuff:
While I think that the suggestions listed above are a huge step in the right direction, new content is probably the most important part. However the suggestions can be kept in mind when creating new content. In that order:
- New dungeons (!!!)
- Proper raids (not that triple trouble thing*)
- New weapons for the old classes
- New classes
- New zones
- New story
- New world-bosses
* I don’t mean to imply that I dislike Triple Trouble as challenging content, I just really dislike that it spawns on a normal map, not to mention a lvl 45 – 55 map.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
I would just like to know in which direction this game is drifting.
Like dlonie, I’m waiting. I’ve been waiting a long time now and the only part of GW2 left that entertains me is the gemstore, at the same time I dislike ANet for pushing the gemstore so hard, my whole game experience has shrinked down to get gold to buy the fluff they release next because there isn’t anything else left for me.
And I thought ANet would knew this, I thought they know that the dungeons aren’t enough to keep players interested, I thought they know that the normal PvE has grown redundand, from a lore prespective (seriously, even if you would like to help that charr in trouble, the event would just start over ten minutes later. Your impact: Zero), from a gameplay perspective (When I started, I struggled to kill the most veterans, now I can solo almost all champions in the open world) and from a reward centric perspective (1 silver for completing that 10 min. long event! Yay!). I thought they know their game lacks interesting mechanics and challenge.
But then they started to release the NPE changes, because obviously some players can’t even pick up weed to feed the cows, and dumped down the game even more.
So I would like to know, which playertype is the one you are catering to? Is it the one who seeks challenge? Or is it the one who doesn’t want to be challenged, the one who only needs to buy the newest intrument or the newest outfit from the gemstore to be happy? Don’t tell me both because I wont believe you and you haven’t done a good job in the past convincing me of the contrary.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
They just have to fix the townclothes (and more transmutation charges would be nice) and I’m happy.
Lol needed a good laugh today ty. You realize a backstab thief is probably one of the most predictable builds in the game right. Stealth into BS everytime normally, it’s no mystery what he’s gonna do from stealth.
Can you stop him? No you can’t. Even if you know what he’s doing, you can’t stop him from trying it over and over until he succeeds.
Has there ever been a patch/feature that has been this hated by the community? The closest I can think of is ascended
The ascended update atleast didn’t locked anything away from us.
I would like to know why the devs are able to release new armor pieces (like toxic gloves skin) but aren’t able to change the old townclothes pieces into armor pieces.
The problem with the current trait is, either the effect is too low and noone want to use it or the effect is too good and you basically have to use it as melee fighter.
I don’t think that the current implementation can be balanced properly.
Because there is WvW and the Traiding Post.
Whole new map in WvW.
The map is quite nice, I’ll give you that. Even if the map changed neither the gameplay nor the story.
Rework of borderlands.
You call those 5 altars, which are getting ignored for the very most, an improvement?
I liked the big lake more.
New skills.
Which one? Those 2 new healingskills? While the majority of other skills aviable stay either useless or broken?
Several new PvP-maps.
Some new maps where you can bash each others brains in isn’t really compelling, don’t you think so? Furthermore, PvP, beside getting obsolete thanks to the messed balance, is a rather small part of the game.
New dungeon(s).
Nope. Just one TA path got replaced by the Aether Path, which was nice but no big deal. The only other change I can think of was the fractals release. They’re nice but get grinded like every other bit of the game.
New reward systems.
That’s a point. But it also changes nothing regarding gameplay or story. It’s just a QoL change, polish, but no great upgrade.
New world-bosses.
Which ones? Those zergfests where you have to bring atleast 120 players to succeed?
Furthermore, the change to tequatl or the 3headed worm where completely unrelated to the story; they could’ve been implemented without it and they didn’t make the story any better.
Etc.
Bad storytelling is bad. I was hyped just 2 times during the living story: At the very beginning when you could think about an elder dragon which expels the fugitives from their land and at the very end when they teased the next elder dragon. Everything else was mediocre at best. Not to mention that I would like to take a break from GW2 without missing anything.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
You know what ArenaNet needs to do?
They need to STOP DRESTORYING EXISTING CONTENT.
Everything described in this thread would be really neat… for a new boss, preferably in a new zone.
Well, they could atleast make the Shatterer more challenging. If I fight the Shatterer I want to have the “Yeah, I’m fighting the most powerful dragonminion right now” feeling
without the need to bring atleast 150 players to defeat him. But still, those fights should’ve been something special. Yet I’m not very pleased. It’s easy, yeah, but I would like to have some sort of crazy 10-stages fight with epic loot at the end rather than this afk zerging.
I haven’t played GW2 for nearly a year now.
I thoroughly enjoyed most of the game; I have a couple 80’s and some fairly high PvP-rank characters. Very close to world completion, high level crafting skills, etc.
I decided to see how the game has come in the past months and fired it up again; after a large amount of patching, a good bit of nostalgia, and a couple of hours, I found myself in a state of déjà vu; I got that same feeling of “there’s really nothing to do” again.
How could this be? Months of content and patches being added but still there’s seemingly nothing to do.
Well, you are experiencing the same as every other person too. The game had a great start. So many things to do, so many details. But since then literally nothing has changed. We got one new PvE map, which is as boring as any other PvE map. We got one new WvW map which isn’t that overwhelming aswell. Sure, some nice gameplay elements have been added but you’re just doing what you’ve done before in normal WvW. Everything someone could have enjoyed has become boring and grindy.
Why are you running dungeons for the 300th time? Because the content is that nice or because you want the reward at the end? I know, it’s a pathetic question but that’s how it is. GuildWars 2 had a good start and, exept for QoL changes, no updates.
And the balancing is still a mess.
Unfortunately you’ve missed the living story but that was also hardly more than an achievement grind.
Now just because you’re running with the theory of ‘well so long as they have one viable spec, the class is fine and we should move onto something else’ is certainly a valid way to look at overall game balance. It’s not something people who actually play that class are willing to accept.
I think the rest of your post has merit, Atherakhia, but I wanted to pull this out really quick.
Regarding the bolded portion, maybe people who play a class in an MMO should be willing to accept that. Maybe part of the problem with MMOs is that everyone is demanding everything be viable such that you can’t have more semblance of true competitive balance in the game.
As a Necro, I accept that I’m going to have shortcomings when roaming in WvW because I choose to roam Power with Dagger+Focus/Staff. I accept it isn’t the Condi build that I think excels more, but I’m OK with that. I’ve made it work well enough to gain a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Back when I mained Warrior for about 8 months, I rolled around Hammer/GS when everyone said Hammer was an awful weapon (can you even believe that people used to think that?). I don’t know that Warriors even had a “main” build back then because everyone seemed to think they were mostly garbage, but I made my chosen playstyle work at least for the most part. Some classes, like Mesmers, were intensely difficult to fight, but that was part of the deal.
Acceptance that there is going to be an “ideal” should be Step 1 in the Coping With An MMO program. Step 2 should be “Feel free to experiment and play how you want, but don’t forget #1 exists”.
There’s a Ranger build that’s tremendously difficult to kill that I literally never see, and I don’t understand it in the slightest.
What you simply don’t understand is that the best builds the ranger has are workarounds. They exclude the main purpose of the pet, dealing damage, to be successful. They are tanky and sustained. No build in PvP will go for raw damage simply because the damage isn’t worth investing in. The only thing you can do in PvP is outsustaining your enemy. The only builds viable in PvE are centered around the sword since the sword AA is the only skill who deals acceptable damage. So there are some builds out there who are used, but not because they’re so good but because the other skills, including the pet, are so tremendoulsy bad.
Erm… hmmm…
This one?
Well, that’s atleast as entertaining as the guy claiming that the LS can be considered endgame content.
Edit: GNAR, I’m going insane! Still no new post in this or that thread. Where’s Vayne when I need him?
Edit edit: One new post but a boring one… ~sigh
Edit edit edit: I mean, I would play the game if there would be something thrilling… but… yeah… #justGW2things

- Make it possible to be in one Guild only – not 4. The current systam braeks ppl apart and creats conflicts. Bring back Alliances as in GW1! Add an Aalliance chat channel.
Cons: May create rage among ppl who like the current systam (I am NOT one of them).
A big nono from my part. I need my personal bankslot guild.
It’s to be expected when the vast majority of rewards are based on gold. Can’t really blame players when the game is set up in such a manner.
Exactly. If I wouldn’t have to grind for the newest fluff on the gemstore all the time, I would have more time to do other things.
Do we even have a good idea of what IS coming?
Aside from more LS, of course. Tons more where that came from.
Hehe, good question.
Ranger still broken
Almost two years since release
Will things ever changeThat is completely rubbish. The ranger is now in a very good spot. Yes there is room for improvement, there is always room for improvement, but saying that rangers are rubbish shows that you have not even tested the class in a long long while. It is these kinds of comments are why i wish we had a “thumbs down” button.
Pets still don’t scale with your armor or wepons. Pets still eat up your damage.
They just fixed the utility part about the pets. However, their main prupose, to deal damage, is still flawed.
And the ferocity change hit. We’re now at a disadvantage to all classes who have strong conditions. And I think it was stated often enough that 3/5 new traits are simply garbage.
So yes, we must be at a very good spot… /sarcasmThe more you post the more I realize you have very little grasp on this game, pets “main purpose” isn’t damage, if you want a zerker geared pet to match your armor take a cat, grab companions might and 30 in BM and you’ve got an absolute killing machine.
Also, we’ve always been one of the best condi classes in the game so cut the crap, we can apply every condi in the game minus torment and confusion with ease and excess not to mention if you’re going for raw damage we’re your man because we have the strongest poison in the game which will put us ahead of necros in damage easy since we can bleed just as well as they can and apply a lot more burning than them, sure they’ll beat us in damage briefly when terror is ticking, but that’s not a very common occurrence.
Also, the advantage of pets is the fact that they don’t scale with our weapons and armor, sure it’d be nice to have, say a zerker bear or a tankier Moa, but so what? If you want a glass cannon pet we have 2, if you want a tankier AoE damage “bruiser” pet we’ve got one, if you want control pets we’ve got them, condi? Got it, sustained damage? Got it, etc.
So quit your kittening about non existent problems and learn the game, you’re contributing nothing to this thread but the spreading of false and misinformed information and there’s enough of that as is.
Simply lol. All you’ve mentioned got discussed before. So if it’s not the main purpose of the pet to deal damage, what is it then? The F2 skill? Why do we get a damagepenalty if our pet isn’t primary supposed to deal damage? Your arguments are obsolete by any means.
The armorscaling is indeed a problem. You can run a cat all day, but if it dies within 2 seconds, your whole damage is gone. Period.
And did the pets got a damagebuff when ascended stats were introduced? No they didn’t. So since all run with ascended stats now, we lose even more damage.
Ah yes, the great “invest points in BM” argument again. Why do I have to invest points into something to get it work?
And yes, we have now the strongest poison in game. Sadly, we can’t utilize it. The trait you require has no place in the current builds. Furthermore, the ranger has 18 differnet sources of poison, yes. But 14 of them are bound to pets.
And yes, you’re right again, we got nearly all conditions. But why do I never see a condi ranger? Ah, I remember, we suck at stacking conditions. Seriously, I see more condi warriors than condi rangers.
So all in all, you should read the forums more before you start to argue with things which has been discussed long ago. I know what the ranger can do and what he can’t. He can do what you’ve said he can do. But he can’t be effective with that. Period.
I think the heart of the issue here is that you’re anti-Capitalism.
You made me laugh and cry at the same time. And you just needed one sentence to do so! Is that the only argument you’ve got? everyone who’s saying something against ANet, the game or its ecomony is an anti-capitalist now?
Sounds convincing. He’s going by that poster’s previous posts and not simply because that poster has something against Anet or the economy. There’s a lot more to it than just in this thread.
Oh I have him seen accusing far too many people as anti-capitalists, me included, to believe in anything he says.
I think I read something a few days ago that NcSoft will improve the marketing for GW2. I hope they finally woke up now.
If they don’t change their policy to tell us more then this money will be wasted. Nothing marketed great is still nothing.
You don’t have to nerf the damage, you don’t have to nerf the cooldowns, you don’t have to remove traits. Just add the little “feature”: Enemies who are already stunned can’t be stunned as long as the prior stun persists.
