Strange in what sense?

Strange in that they can come from losing in third place by a large margin to stealing first place, which even SoR couldn’t seem to snag from BG. :P

Nothing strange about it in my eyes. JQ has always been strong server at the core, with solid tactics and commanders that really know map politics. Like with all servers, the core just needs every one else to show up. A couple weeks of karma farming and no/low pressure tends to bring these folks back. I’m not calling them fairweathers by the way, just more casual types.

In my eyes, the simple fact is they won for too long, which lengthened their slump. Winning in WvW for too long can have some very negative consequences. The key to a comeback is to keep the core together and connected and avoid frustrations and drama that can tear you apart from within.

Well, that and a clear 2v1 doesn’t hurt (wink wink wink).

Also, always fun running into you guys Jed. Saturday night on BGBL after you guys pulled off our NE tower and headed north, we called to cut you off at North camp, only to get there and find a good sized SoR force already there. So we said “okay let’s let them clash in the camp and strike from behind (huehue)”. So we moved right around a hut and the next thing on TS was “uhhh JQ is coming for us instead”. LOL! Always a good time.

So what guild is SoR courting now?

As a player on BG, I can verify this statement 100%. SoR got it’s much needed overnight coverage to at least make a showing in T1. In a big way from the looks of things. Sadly, that also means that T2 is going to suck for a awhile until things balance out a bit. Unfortunately it looks like we’re back to how things were in September. Four T1 caliber servers with only room for three.

But yeah, we’re all getting 2v1’d, as it should be in the three-way (hot) match. I would argue that the top 3 servers are the only ones that can pull it off correctly and consistently. So ya’ll should be patting yourselves on the back rather than crying about it.

Out of curiosity, what’s your beef with JQ? Assuming you have one. Maybe you just enjoy talking smack. You disappeared from the forums for 4ish months then popped up again about a month ago and have posted flames directed at JQ and FOO almost exclusively.

What’s funny is I don’t think you actually play on any of the current T1 servers.

I don’t blame people for being disappointed due mainly to what Colin said.

[HIRE] transferring to another server probably played a part as well. They ran with some really big numbers the past couple of weeks during my prime playtime (late night PST). I think they went to Ehmry Bay. Not sure if [ND] Never Die followed as well. Either way, IoJ lost a chunk of Oceanic/SEA players which was primarily keeping them competitive in T2.

If I played on IoJ, I’d be relieved honestly. They’ve been in T2 for what, almost 3 months, with one week in T1? It’ll probably be a breath of fresh air for them after spinning their wheels for so long.

Sure they “can”. However, do you guys see the drop rate for rares translating into “a lot more Ecto”?

Edit – By the way, for the record, I’m not complaining. I’m just wondering if the drop rate on rares in WvW is where Anet wants it to be. I’ve wondered this for awhile actually. I can practically roll my face across the keyboard in PvE and easily get 5 times the rares than in WvW, if not more. Maybe it’s intended, but I’m not sure why.

BG shoud be fighting for second place. Any third place team that is new to a bracket that isn’t clawing and fighting for any success they can get would be foolish. If I played for BG I’d be squeezing the crap out of JQ at all hours because the best way to change the horizon of the T1 landscape is to first take JQ out of the picture. I have no horse in this race, but I do see things shaking up soon.

You can take 2nd place by squeezing PPT out of the leader too, while tightening the score at the same time thus leeching off their rating if you don’t manage 2nd. Win win. Just because a server is in 2nd place doesn’t always make them a softer target.

Honestly, Anet brought this upon themselves via a lack of foresight and/or lack of action when it could have made a difference. They failed to understand human nature as it applies to competitive gamers. They assumed players would balance things out on their own, and they assumed wrong. Now they’re faced with a situation that really only applies to the top one or two tiers in WvW in a meaningful way but requires the expenditure of both time and capital to remedy the situation which impacts the entire game.

The fact is, the population limits they set for each side on a WvW map should never exceed their server’s ability to handle every single player on that map within 600 units of each other pressing skills. So they either need to increase processing capacity and/or implement game engine improvements, reduce the map population limits, implement features that discourage large numbers of players clashing in a small area, or some combination of the three. They’ve already tried reducing the map population limits and it had less than desirable consequences (enter that buggy non-transparent queue system), so that’s probably not an option at this point. This leaves either fixing things server side and in game mechanics, which mostly impacts 6 servers, for a game format who’s players represent a vast minority of the overall player base.

Not a great situation.

I’m not sure on the best way to go about it, but WvW definitely could use more carrots to keep people participating when losing. I think a good start would be to revamp the Badge system and create some PvP specific equipment skins that are different and actually cool looking. More gear options to buy with Badges would be nice as well.

WvW can be stressful and emotional sometimes. There needs to be something in the reward system to offset that. Otherwise, players that get frustrated or fed up tend to move to an alt, farm karma, or just log off and watch a movie.

I did vote to go to DB this week personally, but in retrospect, that would have been a poor choice and might have hurt DB… whereas we are nothing more than a small blip on JQ.
