[KnT] – Blackgate
For me personally, I enjoy getting on voice comms with a lot of people and my guild, killing enemy players, taking objectives, fighting for the glory of your server and having a few laughs. To put it simply, it’s the people. If you’re out there solo relying on map chat to know what’s going on and randomly following commanders around you’re probably going to get bored fast. Some may enjoy WvW in this playstyle, and all the power to them, but not me.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Devon has always been a good communicator with the WvW players. He also tends to post in flurries, probably due to being busy working on the game and not having a lot of time for the forums. Working as intended IMO.
[KnT] – Blackgate
So he’s proud that his server is now even more stacked than BG and JQ?
In before the “JQ and BG are full, SoR isn’t” rebuttal.
[KnT] – Blackgate
So he’s proud that his server is now even more stacked than BG and JQ?
Actually no, I just loged in game and at this time JQ and BG are both full. 3:36 US East coast time. While SoR is only very high. Reason why we are winning in PPT right now in WvW is becasue of what Indo said. Your servers are still way more stacked than SoR. If your not fielding the players its becasue of what indo said.
LOL! (see above)

Ascended items and infusions both will cost a less than normal amount of laurels, and a badge cost as well. (Ascended accessories will remain laurels + ecto, but with new WvW rank reward chests you’re going to be getting a lot more Ecto!)
So we’re two weeks in since the patch that added rank reward chests, and I was curious about people’s experiences thus far.
Personally, I’ve opened 25 chests since the patch, and have gotten 24 greens and 1 yellow, which salvaged into 2 Ecto. Not counting the coin from chests and vendoring the greens, at a cost of 50 Ecto and at my personal Ecto rate thus far, I’ll have enough Ecto to purchase 1 Ascended Ring in 12.5 months.
Now, I’m a moderate player, logging around 15-20 hours in WvW per week in mostly large group play (zerg if you want to call it that), so I realize this plays a part, but even if I doubled my playtime I’d be looking at 6 months. Tripled? 3 months. Maybe I’ve just had a bad streak on the RNG?
For the record, I’m not bringing this up to whine or look a gift horse in the mouth. I think it was great on Anet’s part to add them. I also realize that there are many other ways to acquire Ecto, ways that I will most definitely use. But I can’t help but refer to the above post from Colin and wonder what the heck he was talking about, because so far, my experience has been a far off shot from “a lot more Ecto”.

Valid? Sure. It doesn’t violate any game play mechanics. In my view it’s bad form though. Being pushed to spawn on a map is punishment enough. Setting up siege is just plain mean and unsportsmanlike. Again, my views. Others will argue that all is fair in love and war. I just know I wouldn’t participate in it if my server was doing it. There are plenty of other ways for me to find some laughs that aren’t at the expense of others.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Now they’re looking around scratching their heads with their primary goal already accomplished,
The thing is…. They should’ve have seen this coming. There’s literally no excuse for not realizing what putting that many people in that time zone will do to the balance of T1.
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. Hindsight is always 20/20, and you don’t really know what kind of impact a transfer like this is going to have until you have a chance to look back on it. In my eyes, the numbers IRON brought to the EU timeslot, while very meaningful to overall performance, had less impact than the actual fact that they were there at all, which added massive “hey I have something to give a crap about now” factor for SoR. Was it coincidence that MORD and NYS had a sudden resurgence? I think not. Heck even SYN and Ritsuko made a brief return to the game to get in on the action. A 9.0 earthquake hit in the middle of the ocean and SoR is riding the player tsumani.
By the way, please don’t take my opinions above as an attempt at bashing anyone or belittling anyone’s accomplishments. Nothing could be further from the truth. I’m just stating things as I see it, which as always, could be completely stupid and wrong.
[KnT] – Blackgate
I think we need to remember guys that the choice a guild makes and the reasons they transfer to a particular destination are many and varied, and a guild never really knows if they are truly making the right decision or not. Sometimes you have to use the information you have at the time and go with your gut. There are many things behind the scenes that very few of us outsiders really know or understand. I’ll admit, I was also scratching my head when I heard the news about WARD/ACO last week, but quickly realized that there were probably reasonably well thought out reasons behind the choice, and some things may come to light in the future that may at least soften our/your disagreements with it.
I certainly understand the feelings expressed by some JQ players, but the fact still remains that none of us are in a position to judge. It does still sting though, especially when a situation that was already difficult only becomes more difficult. Even then, I personally choose to wish departing players/guilds well and look forward to the chance to stomp them (or get stomped by them) on the field.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Here’s my opinion:
Somewhere deep down, Anet developers know that if they make WvW rewards more appealing than other areas of the game, particularly areas that are instanced or can overflow, too many reward chasers will swarm WvW and fill maps that can only handle a set number of players. This will place many PvPers who like the game mode into queues (broken queues I should point out) essentially cutting out the reason the game mode exists in the first place.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Did you just post a question then answer it yourself?
[KnT] – Blackgate
Trait template is almost out of the question now that ANet are selling those re-trait gizmos on the TP.
They wanted to make it inconvenient enough for you to buy them, ergo, no templates/presets whatever you want to call them.
They can just sell “build slot” tabs in the hero’s panel for a marker up price. Once bought you can assign a build to it which you can swap out at lets say 10s(marked up from class trainer) anytime you want. But if you want to change any of the tab then you need to go t oa class trainer or have the gizmo bought to retrait those.
I would not mind paying premium for this feature, and I think Anet would make a good chunk of change from a lot of players this way as PvEers and WvWers love to change specs more than they do their underwear.
See that Anet? You’re leaving money on the table bros!
[KnT] – Blackgate
I don’t mind GvGs at all. Yes, it can be frustrating sometimes when you’re losing holdings on a queued map with one of your guilds doing a GvG, but you know what? They’re just holdings. Those holdings will be flipped back and forth all over the place over the course of a week long match. If a guild wants to GvG once in awhile, and it keeps them interested in the game and coming out and fighting for the server when they’re not GvGing, and are more efficient in the open field due to their GvG experience, then heck yeah I’ll take it and be happy they’re on my team. It’s better than those players getting bored with the game and quitting.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Huh? What Krash said is pretty much the server’s history. It’s true. I am not sure what you mean Kiltor.
He probably takes issue with referring to SoR as a bandwagon server, as would most if not all serious players on the server. Also, there’s a decent amount of inaccuracies in the post. The real game changer for SoR was back when TW and a couple of other guilds left JQ to escape the queues and moved to SoR. This move is what pushed SoR into the #5 spot, where they ran into BG and superior coverage for 9 weeks. Then free transfers ended and yes, some SBI moved to SoR but not a ton. SF and Rage for example moved to JQ. A couple guilds went to BG and elsewhere, and of course WM to Kaineng. Even still, SoR needed more than just a couple SBI guilds to get where they are today, and they did over time to their credit.
While the WM transfer is what really opened the floodgates, I would argue that LoD quitting the game had the largest impact on SBI, and set everything in motion. SBI was having to push way to hard after that to compete against JQ and SoS, and it was wearing on them big time. When the end of free transfers was announced, SBI was limping and the WM move ignited a rush for the door.
Wagons come and go. Some push a server to the top for awhile, and some never get over the hump. But in the end, no wagon lasts forever, so there’s really no point in calling them out.
Enjoy your match guys.

How do you spawn camp someone’s home BL? There’s like 8 million ways out of the invuln areas around citadel.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Perhaps Blackgate can lead by example and show how we conduct gentlemanly warfare.
Hehe we’re certainly not perfect, but I think we’ve learned some things over the past months, and I think TC players have been a big part of that. TC is just a pleasure to play against. Vicious on the field of battle but fun and light-hearted on the forums. I think in the end it all boils down to mutual respect. Respect your enemy, whoever they may be, and things will probably go well. You don’t have to like them, agree with them, or be buddies … but just offer your opponents some basic respect, and you’ll be respected in return.
[KnT] – Blackgate
you’ll never be able to buy ascended items for badges.
1) badges are kitten easy to get on high tiers, this is so you can buy lots of siege.
2) waaaay too many people are stuffed senseless with badges and are too selfish too buy lots of siege and want rewards for themselves, aka ascended items. It’s not ever going to happen, and you can quote me on it
Will do.
LOL!

[KnT] – Blackgate
It is a core latency problem in distributed system and latency between network nodes and the client/server side.
Elaborate, please.
He’s basically saying that it’s a technical limitation with CPU power/bandwidth. It’s certainly not limited to GW2. And it’s more because cpu processes/data transfer increases logarithmically, not linearly, with the number of players in a battle.
In short, servers aren’t fast enough in general for that kind of real time process. So realistically, if you want less skill lag, you have to reduce something else like AoE cap or player limits in maps.
And therein lies the problem. If they cannot solve the skill lag problem via engine optimization or throwing more hardware at it, then they have to reduce the map caps. The game needs be able to handle close to worst case scenarios, which is every player, from all three servers, in one place, all attacking each other. If it doesn’t, then the number of players needs to be reduced to the point where it does or close to it. However, reduced map caps will increase queues, which are broken and are definitely not FIFO, and to make things worse, there is no report of estimated wait time which is absolutely necessary. They can’t reduce the caps until they fix the queues, and if they do, it would ultimately break up some of the larger server communities.
All in all it’s a crappy situation with no easy solutions.
[KnT] – Blackgate
I am not suggesting any 2v1 or anything but if BG can pull away from JQ, you guys are within a few points of toppling SOR from first place with regards to the glicko rating.
edit: All you need is TC to keep up the fight.
These are just my views, but #1 and #2 rating is rather meaningless, particularly when it’s so close. The reasons BG is gaining rating and SoR is losing rating have to do with random chance, which really invalidates the difference. The only way it will matter to me is if BG beats SoR in a direct match and overtakes the #1 rating spot. Otherwise it’s just Glicko silliness.
[KnT] – Blackgate
…and the best bit is the OP probably believes it all
I think you might have missed the joke.
[KnT] – Blackgate
@Devon Any reason in particular why adding ascended gear to WvW hasn’t been done yet? Maybe a reason past “you have to trust us” would give the WvW community some peace of mind.
My bet is it’s because they’re working out the details on adding another gated currency type for WvW. Currently, Ascended items are time gated with limits on fractals, guild missions and laurels, which is obviously intended to stretch out how fast players can obtain these items for each character.
Badges of Honor have no time restriction. As long as there is a player to kill in WvW there is a badge to obtain. So, they can’t just drop Ascended items on a vendor that costs badges, unless they set the cost ridiculously high, which might not matter for many players who are sitting on thousands of badges but at the same time would hurt new WvW players. I don’t see them going this route.
My take on things anyways for what it’s worth.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Did anything change? Yes. Weapon sigils now work with kits and to compensate grenade #1 damage was nerfed by 30%
Did they fix the multiple engineer bugs, and buff us? Nope.
Is Engineer still the weakest class? That’s debatable. In my personal opinion the answer is “yes, or close to it” if looking at the game broadly across the aspects of combat and game content. My Engi can farm Orr DE loot like a beast though!
[KnT] – Blackgate
These posts and arguments need to stop. You cannot equate what is going on to win trading in the scope of other games. GW2 is not GW1. GW2 is GW2, where WvW is not fair and never will be. The fact that Anet in their infinite wisdom continues to run a tournament for a game mode that is inherently unfair is still an extremely questionable decision in my eyes, but the conspiracy theorist in me thinks is probably about gem sales.
Do I agree with servers emailing each other commander lists, communicating on the same TS, and trading wins to seal the deal? Heck no. I think it violates an area of the game where nobody should go. But the path was chosen to make sure a server didn’t win Season 2 and there is no “rule” saying they can’t.
Sadly, I think Season 2 could have been a lot more fun for all players involved if this agreement hadn’t taken place, and natural 2v1s other other organic forms of map politics took place instead. I truly do not believe that it was a guaranteed win for one side. This is my personal opinion though, which is obviously slanted by personal bias to some degree, so take what I say with that in mind. Although I’m a pretty fair minded person overall I think.
Anyways, just let it be.
[KnT] – Blackgate
BG destroyed both servers when there was a lower tier server in the mix, but to show true superiority BG needs to become a King maker. BG needs to choose who becomes second place. Then they will truly put JQ and SOR in their place.
Dominating NA prime time on a NA server is what is actually required. Until that happens…… /shrug
We’re sorry they didn’t make servers for all the other timezones.
With the amount of times that Anet has very vocally, very clearly, and without ambiguity, come out and said “WvW is a 24 hour game and is about how well a server can maintain their score 24 hours a day for the match”, it absolutely baffles me how people on the most populous servers in the game are still deluded enough to argue that off-NA-Hours playtime is less valid than NA primetime play.
It’s been a common theme from certain posters that play on a certain server for months and months. One word. Ego.
[KnT] – Blackgate
This thread needs moar 2v1 complaints.
I’ll start. The other day I was roaming and two Riot folks jumped me. It was totally unfair! They should have duelled me 1v1.
Riot is more fun when Boulderbolg gets drunk, flips on a commander tag and leads a zerg. The last time he did it I was shocked to find out he actually knows what a flame rams is and where to drop it. Then again we also zerged the bajeezus out of an Iron Ore node so there’s still room for improvement.
[KnT] – Blackgate
I’m convinced more than ever now that covenn is an attorney IRL.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Maybe Anet is just trolling. “Hey let’s mess with them and give the #1 ranked server the easiest schedule in Season 1 huehuehue”.
Edit – To me, it really illustrates how little thought they put into this stuff sometimes. Somebody probably scratched out the schedule on a beer napkin while gobbling up some chicken wings at Hooters.

SoS was bought by BG LOL? This lets me know you have not been in WvW at all. Who paid you to come and say all these lies? Agg and NS transferred from JQ to SoS to help JQ put pressure on BG without taking up slots. So far from what I’ve seen is Agg tricking the people of SOS into attacking BG and do you know why? Because if JQ wins, Agg and NS still get 1st prize even if their in SoS as according to the League rules.
I just thought I’d chime in here, to put this to rest if anyone else thinks Agg or NS gives two rips about Season rewards, and that they transferred to SoS during week 1, with the foresight that in a month they could help JQ beat BG in an important match. Hogwash. While I don’t know the exact reasons, I know it had nothing to do with the above. It was probably to avoid the Season 1 queues and find some fights each night. That’s how they play, backed up by their many many server moves over the past months. Also, they focused JQ on Monday night, which I watched on their stream. They avoided their corner on BGBL, which BG held, and moved straight over to JQ’s corner and hit them repeatedly. Why? Because that’s what they wanted to do that night and thought it would be fun. The previous night, they focused BG and handed JQ some of our structures. Again, because that’s what they decided would be fun that night.

So do you guys feel bad about killing TC Dolyaks? I just imagine that they have names and back-stories for every Dolyak… and it makes me giggle.
I still kill them, but I handle it a little differently. With other enemy server Yaks, I let the carcass rot where it dropped. With TC Yaks, I make steaks out of the meat and use the furs to keep my family fed and warm through the harsh winter months. I also use the inedible parts and blend them into fertilizer, to grow a new crop of grass that will feed the next generation of Yaks. When it comes to TC, I support the cycle of Yak life.

Two of the largest Alliances on NA servers broke up recently, and there were many transfers to other servers that took place last week. There are also some transfers from the current #1 server, Jade Quarry, to SoR because those guilds were tired of sitting in queues for hours.
So here is how this week’s matches broke down with the above said …
T1 – Not uncommon to see a blow out in this tier. HoD’s WvW population was decimated, and SBI cannot compete with JQ’s EU coverage for now.
T2 – ET went the way of HoD, and CD is outcovered by IoJ
T3 – BG was the beneficiary of the most Alliance break up transfers, as well as the recipient of an EU Alliance that transferred around the same time the NA Alliances broke up.
T4 – SoS received transfers from 4 or 5 of the top WvW guilds on Dragonbrand, as well as PRX, a former HoD Alliance NA guild.
T5 – SoR received guilds from JQ on Saturday that made a big difference.
And there you have it. But take a look at this …
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA
Except for the T2 match, the rest of them are going to be very interesting this week.
[KnT] – Blackgate
SoR or JQ should never complain about anything. You have such stacked numbers during anything but NA timezone you guys should be ashamed of even thinking of complaining.
I take it that you are from BG? This was posted by Ascii a few pages back.
Ah yes. Because we all know that more potential players in WvW = more players in WvW.

Wow lots of mad in this thread. While I understand the disappointment, the fact is, none of us have the right to judge what a guild does, or the decisions they make in hopes of improving the experience of its players. If I raged over every guild that left Blackgate in the past my head would have already exploded. Wish them well if you care to comment, and hope you get to kill them on the battlefield.
[KnT] – Blackgate
How come every time I read about this Indo speech I picture a dude standing on a palace balcony shouting into a microphone and a massive horde of people below chanting and cheering while waving flags?
I think I need help.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Am having trouble understanding why JQ decided to let BG roll them in what could likely be the final meeting of this T1 line up.
Not sure if serious.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Omg it’s only Sunday and this discussion is actually taking place. There’s no hope for some folks I swear.
[KnT] – Blackgate
I just thought I’d add that SoR is seeing such a huge rating increase is because they entered the match as the #2 server, and are crushing the #1 server in the match, who is actually taking 3rd. The score disparity, as well as more tightly bunched ratings through the middle of the server list is how they jumped 5 spots in one week. Something similar is happening with IoJ this week, but they’re gaining even more rating because they are the #3 server crushing the #1 server. BG is also crushing their game but are gaining less rating because they were the #1 server.
Blah blah anyways .. yeah it’s how the rating system works.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Guys, wait to see what the buffs do before freaking out. Anet understood that the previous orb buffs only made the strongest server stronger. My guess is it’ll be something along the lines of defense against guards/lords and maybe increased Wexp. Something like that and not direct stat buffs.
[KnT] – Blackgate
The way Anet is doing this makes the most sense. Kill them for now until they can get a toggle in. Why they didn’t have a toggle implemented in the first place is a good question, but that’s in the past. What matters now is less clutter in the nameplates, and I’m all for that.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Cons:
1) Some people only know how to karma train and they don’t know any other way to play
2) People bring alts and then have a complete hissy when one of the servers decides to wreck a karma train (see this week’s BG-SoR-SoS thread)
3) It demoralizes those who want to play it straight
You forgot one …
4) It’s barely more fun than drowning your face in pepper spray.
[KnT] – Blackgate
So…. i came home to start reading the last 10 pages on this thread…
Guess what? It’s all the same kitten xD
Stop crying and do something about it. Bad coverage? Have a server meeting.
Guilds getting demoralized? Amp up and kittening fight.BG was doing good and kicking kitten before ZD joined, so, come up w/ another excuse.
How about BG buying plenty of guilds to fill their gaps to stack theirs server and say its nothing.
But now you dont realise how much you have ruined WvW.
JQ dont want to fight you either and the other T2 servers wont offer much of a battle so we all hope your PvD is going well and we hope you dont get splinters..Seriously though week one of the seasons was the best matchup in a long time but then BG obviously got kitten scared and had to buy guilds so they wouldnt get steam rolled. Gz on achieving it but in the process youve now ruined wvw for all other servers in the gold league as well for people on your own servers. I hope you enjoy your cold and pointless win in what was to be a great season..
It was one guild shifty. ONE. And on the day this guild started transferring to BG 99+% of us said, “what?”. Seriously. It was a total surprise to all of us, but certainly a welcome surprise. Before that, the only other guild that moved to BG pre-season was Zero Negative. I believe SoR actually saw more incoming guild transfers than BG did. I’m sorry man but your posts are just coming off as angry and overly defeatist.
[KnT] – Blackgate
The behavior is correct in that your character was killed while in combat but the team talked it over and we’re not happy with the golem going away as a result. We’ll get a change into an upcoming build so that if you’re in a golem when you DC the golem itself won’t be destroyed but will instead be left behind as though you had exited it.
Good change and it makes sense. Thanks.
[KnT] – Blackgate
I think all this nonsense from some BG and JQ players simply stems from the fact that a third place server it is simply better at combat. All 3 servers know that and there are enough players on both servers to even admit it.
You use the word “nonsense” to describe comments from JQ and BG players then go on to say SoR is “simply better” at combat and that everyone knows it.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Dear Jon Peters,
you just made my day!
Make that two of us. Excuse me while I pick my jaw up from the floor. This is awesome news.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Thanks for the update Habib. One thing I will say though … I would still highly consider continuing to review the formula used to calculate ratings and think about increasing the volatility. Now that free transfers are closed, large movements of active WvW players is essentially over. This means that some servers that could be relatively competive in tiers above, or below, their existing tier, can get locked into the same tier for a long period of time. We already started to see negative sentiment from some players after being stuck in the same match week after week, and this was well before free transfers closed. Now, stale matchups will become even more prevalent.
You have the data. I think that a balance can be found that creates a bit more deviation in matchups but that also doesn’t result in regular score blow outs week in and week out. The end result would likely be greater fun factor on the whole over the long term.
[KnT] – Blackgate
Cuddlestrike is BG’s one redeeming quality.
What? BG can also make a mean clam chowder. I’m talking sourdough bread bowls and everything. So that’s two. Don’t sell us short bro!
[KnT] – Blackgate
I voted 1, mainly because I went to unlock it and had trouble finding it.
[KnT] – Blackgate
It’s all good JQ. Blackgate would have likely done the same if the roles were reversed. Hopefully this week’s reality check will quiet some or most of our vocal minority that feels the need to talk crap and taunt our opponents and we can work on getting back to business. Lesson to all .. don’t taunt and disrespect your opponent unless you’re willing to have a target placed on your back. What’s funny is, the players doing the gloating in LA probably put in a fraction of the effort of those of us who are out there every night trying to make good things happen.
Cheers to all on another fun match.
