For me, I feel pretty strongly that the ONLY reason I completed 13/13 is because I was able to log into the game from a machine at work and check the invasion every hour. I don’t mind achievements like Liadri that can be completed any time and only requires some practice and skill. However, achievements based on randomness and as result a required amount of time online are not good and will inevitably lead to player frustration.

I ran a Staff Ele in WvW for the past 6 months, and I’m now getting settled into a Necro. Just keep in mind that the grass tends to be greener on the other side.

With all due respect, when the season started we were definitely the least stacked and lowest ranked tier 1.

And even around 2am server time this morning, there were no Qs on SoS and JQ BLs. That’s why week 1 is the most memorable foe me because it showed BGs commitment and dedication to wvw despite having the least favorable odds. For many of us, it’s not the prize that we cherish but rather the journey.

My servermate took this screenshot minutes before week 1 leagues started, this was prior to ZD’s joining as well. Regardless, good job on the win, but to state BG wasn’t already stacked couldn’t be further from the truth,

To be fair, Ascii hasn’t trolled these match threads for many many months. I think he got caught up in a recent forum account review sweep, where I believe accounts with a certain number of past infractions were reviewed and banned. I don’t know the details but it was something along those lines I think.

Anyhoo, as a fellow Necro player I think Ascii’s banning hurt the forums more than helped.

A mile? The peak lead BG had at any point was around 14k. What’s going on has nothing to do with Blackgate. JQ started a major push yesterday and some of their players and guilds are pulling marathon play sessions. We all care on Blackgate, but the majority of us are not going to push ourselves to the point of burnout. If that means losing the match then so be it.

BG and KN crash into each other all the time. However, over parts of the night and early day, both servers tend to be more opportunistic and take the path of least resistance.

So rather than fighting each other,KN and BG would rather not fight each other most of the night and day(every once in a while crashing into each other) so they can get the easy points double teaming the less populated server. Now i know why you guys cant get out of T2,but i cant figure out how TC is staying in T2 being the least populated server of the three,and being double teamed most of the time.

Don’t start. They fight constantly and we fight them as well on every map. Expecting them to not take advantage of easy points during our downtime is foolish, and getting hurt feelings about it only hurts you. They have a pretty close matchup going on, and I can tell Kaineng is hungry for BG’s ranking. Despite that, TC can run an extremely competitive Primetime with the luxury of not having to worry about the overall score since our Oceanic presence lacks us that luxury.

The most important thing, though, is that in a week or 2 we are going to be in their spot, hammering two other much less populated servers and you are going to be reading posts like yours constantly from them. Try to be the competitor you want to face.

Thank you for this. I thought about doing the same tests using my Ele but just haven’t had the time. The fact that Jon Peters saw this is great news for Necros. Hopefully they get it figured out soon.

Also, it’s most definitely not happening only when downleveled. I do everything possible to avoid going down in WvW, including running away when I really shouldn’t be, just so I’m not rally fodder for the enemy, because I know if I go down I’m dead.

It’s funny that a lot of the guilds that left SoS was because of the jumping puzzle. They had a problem with holding the JP while maintaining a large enough lead and not holding up queues. Exactly what JQ is doing now. A lot of the less experienced guilds have no clue of the power of owning a free siege fountain that runs 24/7.

Now you have a bunch of mediocre servers due to poor guild choices combined with the decision to wipe the rankings, give the last few weeks of free transfers and then lock them all at $20, while allowing guesting which doesn’t encourage server loyalty.

You better hope the March 26 patch introduces enough fixes, culling, etc.. and adds enough to keep it interesting for the next 6 months. There really needs to be a removal of the [outmanned] option causing a lop side effect during off hours.

It was one single guy on a trolling rampage in the first couple of pages. Who knows why. I know you’re sensible enough to not apply the acts of one person to a server of many. Also, BG hit a 10k score lead on early Sunday morning, which is around page 8 of this thread. If you get the chance, re-read the pages that follow and see how much “pomp and bragging” you see.

The RUIN you see out there today is nothing like the RUIN that was on ET back in October. You may as well view them as an entirely different guild.

I really don’t get all of this “omg all they do is cry” stuff. From my vantage point (biased obviously .. remember, so is yours) I haven’t seen any more than usual in these match threads. None of our servers have been immune to it. I don’t care for the 2v1 rants, but I can understand. Getting hit by two servers is frustrating sometimes, and frustrations can cause people to act out. Heck I was feeling it a quite bit last night as well, particularly when JQ sniped Hills from us while they were outmanned on JQBL (seriously, I tip my hat to you guys on a great take). That one really got to me for reasons I don’t need to go into. But I cooled off, thought about it, and realized it was just bad luck to have the SoR zerg near the south gate at a bad time and being out of position for an appropriate defense.

Anyways, all I ask is that you remember that individual players will never represent the overall mindset of an entire server.

I doubt it. From an outsider’s perspective, IRON seems like stand up guys that aren’t out here for ego stroking. They came to NA looking for a different experience and to help move a top tier server into the #1 spot. They scouted all three T1 servers and made their decision based on where it seemed like they were needed the most. The thing is, I don’t think they expected it to happen in the very first week. Now they’re looking around scratching their heads with their primary goal already accomplished, and they’re not finding the fun encounters they were hoping for. Hopefully that changes sometime soon.

If anything, this proves how precarious WvW server balance is in this game. I think morale, driven primarily by a player’s perception of their server’s ability to win, has a larger impact on WvW participation than many people realize.

Easy fixes:

Have each Keep, Tower and Camp worth a fixed amount of Wexp, and spread it evenly across the number of players in the circle when it caps.

Have each player worth a fixed amount of Wexp, and spread it evenly across the number of players that tagged said played.

Increase defense Wexp for upgraded holdings. The more upgrades the greater the Wexp.

These simple changes would probably go a long way towards breaking up the Wexp trains (zergs) and provides incentives to upgrade property and actually hold it.

Even the game code knows we should be in the same match together.

Well, they already did the blog on culling removal. I’d imagine they’re finishing up the blog on the rest of the changes, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it in the next couple of days.

Since you’re on SoR, how about EST NA primetime, which is one of BG’s biggest coverage holes right now? Using your suggestion, you’d see SoR and TC EST primetime WvW queues skyrocket. Do you really want that? I know TW and a couple other guilds transferred from JQ to SoR because of queues and having a hard time playing together as a guild. What do you think would happen if they were suddenly faced with queues again?

I use it all the time in WvW. It also has the funny graphics side effect of sliding across the ground on your face when running after the fall. Oh the rocks and splinters!

Well to be fair, SoR did A LOT better with receiving guilds before free transfers ended than BG did. The balance of perception ebbs and flows quite a bit over time, and I think transfer consideration has a lot to do with a server’s current position in the rankings, community perception, really good timing and a lot of luck. It has nothing to do with being a good or bad server at recruiting (in my opinion), but a rather unique combination of the above variables.

Yeah probably. It’s usually players that only participate in WvW when a server is winning, and are basically saying “haha we’re in T1 and winning you’re bad neener” or something along those lines. All servers have the sort, and they usually go away when losing. Humans are usually mean by nature … we have to learn to be nice.

30%? What the heck were they thinking? I’m about done with this profession. Maybe the game. Meh. I’m really disappointed right now.

I’m sure those that were on the receiving end of 2v1s the most this week will disagree with me, but I personally think the 2v1s were much more interesting this week, because they actually meant something, rather than being based on trivial things like forum troll retribution, disagreements with map politics or past rivalries. All the 2v1s this week had a purpose, based on the scoreboard, and I thought how things shifted throughout the match was kinda cool to watch play out.

Assuming the match ends where things are now, I think this first week played out the best for all of us, as I believe it may make for a more a more interesting Season 1. Having things decided in the first few weeks of a seven week season isn’t good for anyone.

I didn’t realize until today how much Kaineng is reliant upon their SEA players.

It’s been that way since their meteoric rise began. I give all KN players a lot of credit for their push to the #4 spot, but I think many of their guilds were overplaying and running on the rush of it all, which may have caused some burnt out. When we (Blackgate) faced them for a few weeks, they did put up a very good fight during NA, but a lot of it was the NA faction of WM, with MEOW, KO and more WM coming on later at night (but quite early for SEA) hopping maps and trying to flip objectives with their zerg. RE and CO always put up a fun fight when we’d run into them, but even during NA it was the WM zerg that my guild looked for and specifically targeted to counter.

I’m sure the hope was to attract more NA guilds with a superior SEA presence, but that didn’t play out, and it sounds like player attrition is taking its toll like it is for many servers. I hold KN in high regard however and wish nothing but the best for their guilds and players. Those 3 weeks of matches of BGvTCvKN was some of my funnest WvW times to date.

Anyways, sorry for butting into your thread and reminiscing a bit.

Hmmm. I have to wonder if what you’re experiencing is what most people mean when they describe “skill lag”, as FPS has nothing to do with it. It’s about the server’s instruction processing becoming so bogged down, that it will no longer accept skill commands from clients, followed by a period of skill “turbo mode” when the lag subsides and the server catches up to real time.

BG doesn’t know how to endure, JQ is still a solid contender though. My apologies to BG, it seems a lot of your guilds stop showing up, but how you gain guild is not how one makes a strong community. Whilst you guys say you have one, from everyone I talk to on BG your guilds seem very segregated and do their own things for the most part.

Look, I’ll be straight up here. How we “gained” guilds is no different than any other server. We recruited them if we had time zones where we were weak in our current tier. Sometimes, others followed unexpectedly. Also, we have the same thing as every other successful server in WvW. Forums, a shoutbox, serverwide Teamspeak, weekly strategy threads in the community leaders forum, map/goal assignments and regular VOIP meetings. Blackgate guilds are not any more, or less segregated than any other server unless for one reason or another that guild chooses to be (I don’t know of any, just saying).

I cannot answer why players are not coming out lately, but I feel strongly that it will change for the better sooner rather than later. I have personal opinions on the matter, but they’re just that, opinions, and without any factual data to back them up they’re not even worth mentioning. That said, whatever the current issues are, it has very little if anything to do with “community”.

The fact that I’ve actually been able to use my skills in fights the past two nights makes this match infinitely better than last week. We had a rough first 48 hours but it looks like we’ve turned it around. I have no idea how the rest of the week will play out but it’s been pretty fun thus far.

It’s only ok when BG is ticking at 450+ during SEA while SoR is ticking at 50ppt.

Any other time BG isn’t ticking at highest ppt, it’s PvDoor.

I play SEA every day on my server and the ppt is never extremely unbalanced. At least not since we used to lead tier 1. Don’t try to defend what is obviously unbalanced.

That’s quite a statement considering what I stated happened today. SoR was ticking a 50 for quite a while, while BG was ticking over 400.

I drew a line for you just in case you require visual cues. Notice how two servers took one server’s PPT during Oce/Sea, and how one server took two server’s PPT in EU/Early NA. Maybe let that sink in when you reply to people commenting about pvdoor.

All shifts of our server have worked hard this week. We have worked hard as well at organizing the server the past two weeks. We are giving it 100%. JQ is 2 vs 1 just like everyone else during NA. It is the nature of the beast. I give our server the credit if we win because we have worked hard for it. Crediting hatred between SoR and BG is just false.

Props to JQ on the win this week, well deserved.

SoR just focused BG because they wanted them to sit down and stop chest thumping, but also its like the only way bg will come out and play

Nothing is decided yet, too much time left for anything to be final. SoR can come first and JQ can drop to 2nd/3rd.

Or JQ can come first and BG can come 2nd. Anything is possible.

As a player on BG, I always enjoyed our matches against IoJ. From our first meeting along with SBI back when you guys were at or close to peak participation, to the final match before you fell to T3, I always enjoyed what you guys brought to the game.

Sorry to hear that KN may be losing some folks. I’ve said this around here before but those 3 weeks of matches vs KN and TC were some of my funnest WvW times to date. KN has quality people that know how to bring it even when outgunned and those that decide to move on will no doubt have a positive impact wherever they decide to go. Selfishly I want you all on Blackgate but I know you guys will make the best decision for your players, whether you decide to move on or stick it out. Best of luck.

This is a big part of the problem IMO. The game rewards behavior that could be viewed as griefing in certain circumstances.

I didn’t think it was a secret that some JQ guilds donated gold to help some transferring guilds rebuild their influence and upgrades. There was a thank you post right on their own community forums.
