Server Wide Chat

Server Wide Chat
I would like to propose something I came across in one of the megaserver feedback threads.

Please don’t merge this devs. It is it’s own separate thing.

New chat mode, “Server Chat”. Will function the same as the others within the chat box options.

Pros:
~An additional way to tie the community together & promote a server community feel.
~Accessible anywhere in the world, including wvw.
~In pve, it would make the world not feel so lonely and desolate. (let’s face it, even with megaserver, there will still be certain zones that are mostly empty)
~For those that like their peace and quiet while they’re gaming/roaming, they simply tick the box next to “server chat” & make it go away.
~Easier to ask for help & actually get it, with more personally challenging parts of the game. (there are a lot of ppl who would actually wp somewhere right away to help someone with something if they new the need was there)
~Much faster notification of world events instead of – having to ask through guild chat (if you are even in a guild), if someone that is in ‘LA’ could let everyone know in mapchat that said event is going on or about to start. (same applies to f list)
~Easier to find people/events/commanders through conversation instead of clogging up your friends list even more than it already may be.
~Adds the ability for gw2 to create server-wide notifications for mega events & possible pre’s, or w/e else they want to use it for.
~Creates much more opportunity for trading between players.
~WvW, PvE, PvX, GvG guilds would be able to recruit world wide almost effortlessly.
~While in wvw, it would allow us to ask for reinforcements w/o having to actually leave wvw to do so. (or go through the guild/f list chat chain & hope for the best)
~Provides additional entertainment value anywhere in the world, if desired.

Also, if this were to be implemented fully, it would be helpful if there was a slight shade differential in the color to immediately separate wvw requests, from pve chat. Just a slight shade/color difference so that it’s not obnoxious.

Cons
~impossible with coding?
~impossible to factor in wvw with coding?
~impossible with coding in a megaserver environment?

Concerning the megaserver implementation, this could be epicly helpful since a large amount of the complaints are directed toward ‘server communities being ruined’, as well as, wvw tactics being eavesdropped on by enemies.

Additional separate suggestion:
Server Wide Chat for WvW. Akin to Team Chat, operates across all 5 maps.

I don’t have a problem with the prices.
However, I do want all, (or at least most) of the items available to me constantly.
Anet, just do sales to get impulse purchases….

Personally I would buy many more items if they were constantly in my face reminding me of what I want. Goals, if you will.
When temporary items come up, if I don’t have the rl money, gems don’t get purchased.
If I could plan ahead of time to buy what I wanted, they would make a hell of a lot more money off of me.
Instead, I mostly spend my hard earned gold in the gem shop now….

Do these guys even play the game? come on anet – are you trying to destroy this game?
A lot of low/mid hearts have a requirement of “kill centaurs or spiders etc” by forcing everyone into the same zones you get a pile of 80’s one shotting everything while doing map completion while the new players can’t tag. I’m now mapping for the 4th time (at this point as a goodbye to the game) and i’m hitting this issue in a few places since i switched to TC and frankly, its annoying.
Organising teq etc is going to be much, much worse as now you’re literally trapped with every peanut in there doing mapping/harvesting.
Ori prices and mats are going to spike freaking hardcore, you’re literally imposing a scarcity – its 4.5 silver a nugget now and thats WITH people farming every node every day, when they can’t find the nodes – hello unnattainable ore. (salvaging is not exactly guaranteed) twilights going to be a hell kitten to craft now.
The waypoint fiasco is an absolute killer for me I check the temples etc to see if they’re uncontested for mapping/karma purchases/skillpoints in orr. Yay, you screwed that up too..

+1 from me. If you are doing the UI: Please Anet, let us implement Sidebars, so we can have all our food, tonics etc. there. It is very annyoing to open the inventory all the time for this.

And if you are doing this: let us place the skills where WE want it.

I understand the UI is made simple so most people won’t be too confused (some sick WoW UIs come to my mind). But please let the ones that play seriously customize the UI freely as they like.

[Suggestion] Booster Merchant

I know there’s plenty of us out there that have an untold amount of Speed/Armor/Experience/Strength etc Boosters in their bank.

I propose an exchange merchant for these items, where you can trade X amount of one type of booster, for a different, more desired type of booster.

Honestly, I am never going to use 19 Speed Boosters or 15 Killstreak Boosters…. ever >.>
I realize some of the boosters have been removed from the game but, there’s still 8 different types left.

Home Instance Bandit Chest

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Naz.2607

Naz.2607

It’s not like keys are expensive. First thing i did was throw a stack of 100 keys to my home instance parked alt, the one that does the daily node mining. Now he’s got one more node per round, and i’ve got 100 days to remember to send him more keys before he runs out…

So, you can collect the chest for 100 days then….
All of my nodes are forever, no assembly required.
And when no ones in the silverwastes any more?

Then it’ll take slightly more effort to refresh the stock? Every SW event rewards crests. It’s dead easy to solo a keep and to follow with the rubble event, and you get 30 crests out of it i believe? Or i’ll stop bothering, who knows. It’s not like it’s a gem store item, we got that for free, as an additional gizmo.

edit: of course rubble event follows defense, not capture. Point still stands, but duh!

I do not want to continually be forced to play old content, potentially by myself, on a toon that I have earmarked for other things on the complete other side of the world, just to be able to keep opening that chest.
This also requires extra, full price porting, negating the profit from the chest.
If I had known that it would b like this, I never would have bothered with the story at all.
I have the crystallized node & the candy corn node in my instance. Both were worth the time & energy I spent to get them, because they don’t cost me something additional in order to harvest them.

Siege Troll Discussion

in WvW

Posted by: Naz.2607

Naz.2607

Giving select people control over the existence of something as important as defensive siege is a huge mistake. All people should have equal access to the use/building of siege.
And there is no need to complicate this issue any further with debuffs/buffs, squad requirements etc.
There are 2 ways to to combat this. Many people have been asking for quite some time now (including myself) for a revamp of the Reporting System.
Add:
~ Siege Griefing
to the Reporting Options.

And to take it a step further, add a few more descriptive terms to streamline information coming from the reporting system to speed up the process. example:
~ Underground Exploiting
~ Teleport Exploiting
~ Emote Spamming
~ I saw this dude flying… w/e, etc

I believe making the effort to utilize a proper report system is the key. (As long as there is and adequate response team for the system.)
This report system could be specifically for WvW & the bans applied could be so as well.
The second way IS policing. However Anet, if need be, I am quite sure you could find many available, & qualified players willing to donate their time to moderating wvw for the good of their server and their personal gaming experience.

Likely all the ways you can think of to ‘fix’ the issue of troll siege could actually have serious unintended consequences and punish the wrong players while not having a real effect on ‘trolls’.

I cannot think of any preventative mechanic that wouldn’t cause more problems for people playing the game as intended; things like supply caps or siege caps per player would be unnecessarily burdensome, especially as on more organized maps all siege placements tend to be funneled through a few individuals.
This is something that is best policed by the community; there are relatively few siege trolls, and a minimal, intelligent system should be able to deal with it after the fact.

See, I knew this would happen. Rather than just dealing with the tiny minority of people who perpetuate abuse by handing out bans (trust me, only a few bans would be enough to make people think this wasn’t so cool anymore), we’re gonna end up with a convoluted system which penalizes everyone and makes it a lot more annoying to legitimately siege up our towers and keeps.
gg.

Ban the tiny, tiny minority who are partaking in this now and set the precedent that it is an actionable offense and it will all but eradicate it forever. We do not need changes to the core mechanics of how siege and supply work.

I think we are going too far in talking about adding new or changing existing features of the game. The only features in this case that need to be implemented are a better and smarter reporting system. We are talking about a very small minority of individuals and independent mass reporting of individuals shouldn’t be too difficult to investigate. Please dont change gameplay over a few people. This could change the whole culture of “reporting doesnt do anything” and help restore the faith.

I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating. The single biggest action that Anet can implement to reduce trolling is putting a fast trigger on the ban hammer.
There have been several situations where massive numbers of people were banned due to exploiting market/crafting bugs. Due to these situations, the entire playerbase is now (rightfully so) extremely wary of exploiting things that smell like bugs, for fear of getting banned.
there needs to be an incredibly strict banning policy with regards to trolling/griefing/hacking. Once people start getting permabans for this behavior, the number of people doing it will drop off precipitously.

I think a fundamental problem here is that we’re trying to find a game mechanic to predict/fix player decisions. Any mechanic that gets put in place would just shift the troll behavior to something else without fixing the issue. I don’t think you can program your way out of this kind of problem.
I honestly think sending some GM’s out with a banhammer to exterminate trolls with extreme prejudice would do a lot at combating the trolls. It’s gotten out of hand because there’s no fear of repercussions. Show them there are consequences and many of them will either leave or get banned. Those that are left will be the die hard griefers but at least there will be fewer to deal with.

Equal Enforcement:

  • Whatever solution is reached, Commanders should not be exempt from them. I’ve seen dedicated trolls who are themselves Commanders that intentionally divert the army in a hazardous direction.

Feedback/Questions: MegaServer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Naz.2607

Naz.2607

I specifically paid rl money to xfer to the server that I am on SOLELY for the community.

I am an officer in a wvw guild that was established in beta & I do NOT want to potentially share cities/pve world with my wvw enemies OR a bunch of new trolls that my server works particularly hard at getting rid of on a constant basis to maintain the serenity of our pleasant community.

I have people on my friends list who are most decidedly NOT my friends for very specific reasons, and I do NOT want to be thrown into places where they are, nor be forced to remove them from my Flist.

I am about as far from a role-player as you can get but, I urge you anet to pay attention to these very specific sectors of gw2 population. No mode of gameplay should be ignored & made to feel that they don’t have a voice or valid issues of concern. We have a few rp’s on our server & I can say that rp’s are quite entertaining & a really nice part of our community.

“We’ll also be discussing the long-term plan for guilds and WvW in relation to our megaserver system”

The thought of regularly having to repeat costly guild missions due to someone killing the bounty before my guild is able to get there & participate is not ok. We don’t particularly like doing them, they are done solely for guild commendations & are viewed by many in the guild as a waste of time. As an officer, I don’t want them to possibly take even longer and cost even more influence due to them having to be repeated.
Potentially gaining less guild influence is also, not ok
Guild recruitment is going to take a big hit from this. It’s hard enough to recruit for a guild that actually has rules and a carefully created environment, for the purpose of structure & the pleasure of our existing members.
Guilds who don’t particularly care about their members & are all about quantity, not quality, won’t really be affected by this.
Again, not ok
Guild Halls, if they are inc, will not fix any of the current & incoming guild issues stated., js

The combined server concept of EotM was bad enough.
Yes, the map is extraordinarily beautiful. Yes, ty for attempting to address wvw queues in some way. Yes, ty for all of the extra badges, karma, & wxp that I get when I do actually go there…
BUT, fighting along side long time enemies in a fashion that allows them to spitefully troll freely in chat &/or thwart organized battle plans; having the entire experience contribute nothing aside from a supply drop to my server; being surrounded by 20x’s the amount of pve mobs in a pvp environment; having no way to organize said forces through a server voice chat, & losing all sense of community are deal breakers for us on that one. Which is why we only go to EotM about 1-2 times in a whole month.
PLEASE do not attempt any kind of server merging or mega server option for wvwvw.
The fact that the pve population is contracting enough to constitute an action like “mega server” should tell you that you should start turning some more of your focus to the wvw realm. You currently have a very small team dedicated to the wvw segment of gw2. Give us a cpl more dedicated dev’s & give us the things that we have been asking for, NOT what you think we ‘need’ or what you think would be cool. If you give your customers what they want, they won’t leave & some of those that have left will come back.

I was really starting to get exited with what had been revealed thus far for the update. The wardrobe system & acct bound wxp has had me on the edge of my seat since they were announced. I felt those features would help sustain me for quite some time. Now, I’m starting to worry lol

Yes, I am waiting for the rest of the reveal, but this: “We’ll also be discussing the long-term plan for guilds and WvW in relation to our megaserver system” is starting to make me feel uneasy.

TY 2 Anet 4 Perm Tools still in Gem Store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Usually when ANET does something like this they are planning better gathering tools but want players to spend their gems so they can purchase more gems.

Not sure what you mean by “better”. I don’t like any of the newer ones. They’re just odd. I think they take design too far with these things.
That’s why I said “all”, because I was able to get the ones I wanted. Namely, the watchwork mining pick, but also chop-it-all logging axe and consortium harvesting sickle. Old style lol
If, by better, you mean a new mining pick that harvests with the chance to gain ambrite or azurite or something like that, I would be very interested & would def purchase more gems for that lol
I know it’s a heated topic for some but, I would buy that in a heartbeat (as long as it was in the gem store long enough for me to work it in >.>)

Ruins/Bloodlust 5 months on....

in WvW

Posted by: Naz.2607

Naz.2607

I suggest:

Skritt and centaur patroles on the map 5-8 strong serving the team controlling the camp, the npcs need a power level comparable to the EoTM npcs, the patrols should be moving between camps and sentinels, every 15min the patrols mesmer npc portals the patrol to a random sentinel or camp to make the route less predictable.

No, STOP IT with the PVE mobs, just stop it. Every single one of them should be removed except guards/lords.
If ppl want stacks, those stacks should have to be obtained by killing enemies.

I do agree that the ruins and eotm are aesthetically beautiful. There’s never any lacking in this game aesthetically… ever

But, the ruins & their effects were never, even remotely, asked for by players.
I agree that some kind of structure would be a much better replacement for the area.

Agreed. Might turn the tide just a little and add some more epic fights defending structures, giving defenders just a little more time to respond. Also, slowing down the ktrain a tad.
I also agree that pvd shouldn’t be allowed, with maybe, the exception of fire damage… cuz…logical

Could restructure upgrades:
row 1:
~hire merchants
~hire services (bank/repairs)
~hire tp agent
row 2:
~hire additional guards
~raise guard level
~hire guard patrol
row 3:
~build cannons
~reinforce cannons
~build cannon platforms & extend cannon range appropriately (raising cannons to 1500 range, thus also giving rangers more purpose in wvw if traited accordingly)
row4:
~2nd worker
~build mortars
~build wp
row 5:
~gates are resistant to all damage except fire & siege damage
~gates are reinforced
~gates are fortified
row 6:
~infused iron walls (walls randomly ignore/reflect dmg 5% of the attack time, or every 10th hit)
~walls are reinforced
~walls are fortified

Just some ideas.
(The cannon platform idea was suggested by someone else in the recent thread “Cannons destroying rams through gate”. Too good of an idea to overlook

Siege Troll Discussion

in WvW

Posted by: Naz.2607

Naz.2607

Great discussion so far! I came back from a couple of meetings and was blown away to see so many excellent ideas and constructive posts.

The exhaustion idea that I kicked out there has had some mixed responses. There were some amazingly good ideas to make it work a whole lot better. For example, I really liked the suggestions that the cool down time is reduced for each member of your squad. I am really concerned though about the affects that you guys brought up on small havok groups and defenders. There were some suggestions that I think would make it work. For example, a couple of suggestions were along the lines of if you are actively playing it will clear your exhaustion. So if you down an enemy, break down a gate, destroy enemy siege etc. your exhaustion would be cleared.

If we tweaked Exhaustion to this would it work? :

  1. When a player places a piece of siege they receive a stack of “Exhaustion”
  2. A stack of “Exhaustion” expires after three minutes
  3. If a player has five stacks of “Exhaustion” they can no longer place siege
  4. If a player downs an enemy, destroys siege, breaks down a wall or gate their exhaustion is cleared
  5. A commander’s exhaustion is reduced by 30 seconds for each member of his squad

We aren’t tied to this idea at all. I’m just collecting and shaping some of your suggestions on this idea in large part because a lot of people seemed to like it. I’m wondering if there is a version that would work for everyone.

Some sort of community policing also came up a bunch in this discussion. I think there were some great and promising ideas there. But, generally the concern with that comes down to a few things. How many people would be needed to get a person banned? What if not that many people are on? At what lower number will we have to start worrying about groups kicking members of another group because of petty arguments?

Finally, regarding swinging ye olde banhammer, that’s an option but if we can make some reasonable adjustments that greatly reduces the need for that option it will really be the better way to go. I would very much like to steer clear of falling back to that option in this discussion.

Thanks again for all the great suggestions!
John

John,
I totally appreciate this discussion and the fact that you guys have your attention on this problem.
However, some of these suggestions seem more like complications. Especially the exhaustion debuff.
The more complicated wvw is, the less people will be willing to ‘give it a try’ or stick with it after they do.

You stop siege trolling, they’ll buy merchants during an attack. You stop that, they’ll suicide golems. You stop that, they’ll run around your towers, turning all your siege backwards (yes, I’ve seen this).

You have to stop the trolls directly.

Just look at the dungeon exploit situation in this very game. Band-aid fixes like invisible walls for two years did nothing but temporarily slow down exploiters. And now (finally) Anet has GMs joining parties to ban people.

Yeah, as I said earlier, as much as we can try to automate the process, at the end of the day, we will still need someone to come in, evaluate the situation, and make a judgment call on whether somebody is being a troll and take punitive action. If it is not feasible for ANet to provide a team of GMs to do so, then perhaps some of the monitoring could be turned over to the community, by way of a Player’s Tribunal, volunteer GMs etc.

A WvW Reporting System that is monitored, a Map-wide Voting System, or Match-up Moderators are what I believe is really needed.

PPT is a joke. WvW is about fights.

in WvW

Posted by: Naz.2607

Naz.2607

You really can’t, and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t. “Skill groups” are some of the worst players in WvW I ever encounter and contribute absolutely nothing most of the time, coupled with having a horrible attitude towards WvW and everyone that’s not them.
Good, larger groups that have a focus on PPT are lovely to be around most of the time however. Good groups can and do have a large input on PPT, whether that group consist of two or 20 players. “Skill groups” purposefully ignore this fact in favor of “finding the good fights”, probably because they don’t really have any idea how WvW works and have no interest in learning.

^^

ppt and fights go hand in hand. best way to get a fight is to knock on a t3 structure.

Yeah, get fights against cannons and arrowcarts…
Would be awesome if they removed all siege and leave only rams.

Those things are in the game because it’s NOT meant to be all about blobs of players slapping each other in an open field.

You might want a game mode designed around groups of players fighting each other in an open field for points, but Anet has not provided you with one so joining a game mode that’s clearly not designed this way then complaining that everyone keeps sieging up castles and holding objectives for the tick is ridiculous.

^^

I’m sure this has been suggested before: An instanced arena for GvG (no balance required). Use a subset (e.g. condensed/trimmed set) of the current maps (including EotM) which are randomly spawned when entering. Set a limit of 20 players, 30 players, 40 players each (pick a tier). Set a timer, at the end of 15 minutes, or 30 minutes, (again tiered), calculate the GvG points based on number of players and time <waves hands here mathematically>, take scored points (use multiplier or percentage) and add to PPT.

Means taking GvG off of the maps which will have a different impact on WvW. GvG battles will still contribute however.

Allows for balanced GvG fights.

Impacts ANet’s servers (for those instances) and requires investment.

/top of head simplistic post off

Implication of course is that GvG is still server vs server.

^^many have been asking for this for a while. Would be nice to free up spots & remove these attitudes from our maps so we can get down to organized wvw business…

I love these chests! Currently it’s one of the best ways in the game to get globs, new recipes, dragonite & salvagables.
I finally feel more like I’m getting rewarded for game play.
Thank you anet!

A Complete List of WvW Bugs (FOR ANET)

Tyler, please put the “dying from walking down a slope” bug at the top of your list. Cuz that one’s just rediculous. That should not be happening in a game mode like wvw.

Sorry, I give up, here is a Straight up Complaint

Dear ArenaNet,

You have given us a lot of new information on changes. Literally, dozens of new aspects we can discuss. But we have to discuss all of them in a single thread. This is not conducive to an intelligent conversation. This only promotes one-and-out whining.

I already asked for suggestions to fix what I feel could be a significant new waypoint problem, but you closed the thread. So now I ask the same thing here. But note, rather than answer me, you will find a lot of responses that are ignoring my request to reiterate what they like/dislike/hate about other unrelated changes.

If you actually want a discussion, let us discuss the separate changes separately.

This is a great idea and a perfectly reasonable request.

Do YOU want a season 2?

No
Anet please fix and enhance our current wvw before doing this kind of thing again!

buuuuuuttttt…. it’s too late anyway cuz they already announced it….
so I’ll say this:
ONLY if acct bound wxp is in place BEFORE it starts
ONLY if NO free or discounted xfers are offered this time before it starts. That killed the whole thing last time. Bandwagonners should have to pay full price for their whole guilds to xfer if they care so little about the server that they’re currently on.
And, I agree, it will probably be the last nail in the coffin for low pop servers this time around.

GW2 Guild Panel:
Join Date
Last Log-in Date
Notes section

~Can’t effectively/consistently invite, whisper, join, kick, using the Guild Panel OR Chat Box in WvW.
~Can’t see what WvW map guild members are on in in Guild Panel******
~Can’t kick offline party members while in WvW******
~Can’t invite people to guild through chat box in WvW
~Guild Chat is the only chat that disappears when you log to Character Screen yet, it’s as equally important as party/whisper & certainly more important than map chat

Still waiting to hear something on these topics. I would really like to see some things like this fixed before seeing more & more new content……

So, other than complaining about it, what are some solutions? Have a new chat option which is server-based?

This is a great idea!

How would harvest nodes be affected by this change? Because I’ve still got lots of deldrimors to make and piles of iron and platinum to collect. I don’t mind going to a map to find the nodes once, but I’d hate to come back with another character 30 seconds later to find I’m in an entirely different instance of the same map.

^^ This is huge for me

Make minis more desirable

I am also very much in favor of a dedicated mini-slot on the hero tab. Now I have to go into my invisible bag every time after zoning or death to get my mini back. A lot of hassle just to have a mini out.

Made a quick mock-up some time ago showing how a mini-slot could work on the Hero tab:

This alone would be awesome!!
But, I tire of having to re-summon my mini. Seriously anet, can we please have them stay out when we die/re-zone???
