Again, nothing meaningful came out of the CDIs for WvW. WvW updates that do get rolled out increasingly promotes zerging and allowing whichever server that has more people online at the time to roll through everything, with the sole exception of siege disablers, that merely delays the inevitable due to the supply cost of using them.

WvW is still the “niche” game mode, when it could’ve been the main game mode that so many people bought this game for, especially DAoC vets (which I’m admittedly am not). It just severely lacks any kind of dev support or dev attention and is extremely obvious when you see how few red posts are in the WvW forums compared to any other forum. They even removed the one thing that actually gelled the WvW community together – the matchup forums, because they aren’t willing to put in a little extra effort to get moderators for the forum, even though it was the most active category of their entire forum, with thousands of posts a day at its peak.

I role play in map chat a lot when I’m scouting. Keeps things interesting.

I don’t feel there should be a reward for it personally. I find it a nice break from zerging and fighting. When I’m commanding, I usually swap scouts out every 15-30 minutes so people are willing to scout.

Well, to be honest, if you’re following the tag, the correct thing to do is to join their teamspeak server if they’re advertising one. Otherwise, get off that particular tag and follow someone else, or put up a tag yourself.

There is no “correct” thing to do. If you are following an open tag (usually blue) then you are not obliged to do anything. TS is a courtesy on both sides, the one providing it and the one choosing to use it or not. However it’s by no means a required tool to play WvW efficiently or successfully.

Yes, that is the correct thing to do. That person is leading their squad. They set it up how they want. If they don’t want to have someone not in teamspeak in their squad, that’s their right. If they don’t want non-TS users on their tag, that’s their right as well, especially since ANet refuses hidden/guild commander tags. You can go follow another tag, put up your own tag, or roam if you’re not happy with their rules.

Some good points being raised in this thread though

1. Disabilities

Yes. This is a huge problem. Those with disabilities should never be forced into teamspeak. I know I had a couple of people with hearing disabilities explain that to me so I knew to keep them in squad and not force them to join teamspeak. They even joined along later in advertising teamspeak. Also had a person that required hearing aids to hear, but still enjoyed being in teamspeak. Each person is different. Find a commander that is still happy to have you along.

2. Elitists in TS

Yeah… This is an issue. It’s extremely irritating to listen to. Having commanders call out random kitten and blaming random people that aren’t in their guild just feels bad to listen to. I’d leave the channel if that were the case

3. Noisy chatter

Okay, so it’s not for everyone, but TS3, for a lot of people, is a place to socialise with other people on your server. These are the people you have to play with day in and day out (server transfers aside). You’ll find a lot of times, that it will be the same people following specific commanders with a specific group every time. People will find their niche in their server and just hang around them. Each server is a huge community after all.

If you still prefer your music though, what I tend to do is to mute everyone but the commander, and have my music playing through my speakers, while TS3 audio goes through my headphones. Works a treat

Honestly, it’s generally better, if you’re following the tag, to join their teamspeak. If you can’t or won’t, just don’t join that tag. Such a simple solution.

It’s even harder for pugmanders playing outside of NA prime. I tend to be able to rally a decent size zerg for OCX prime (in comparison to our competition), but that usually peaks at around 25 people before dropping off when SEA starts as guilds start their raids. When other people try without a guild group behind them, they’re lucky to rally 10 players.

People like familiarity. If you tag up constantly, then people will recognise your tag and follow you.

Blackgate is probably the most populated server at the moment, so it might not be your best interest to be on this server if you’re an American player. You also entered during a tournament season of WvW, so queues are artificially high compared to the ‘off season’. Tier 1 and Tier 2 have different mindsets when it comes to WvW though, so do a bit of reading and research and decide which tier you want to be in.

Anyway, not recommended to enter WvW at level 10. You’re lacking traits/runes/sigils to be able to compete well, especially since you’re new to the game. Try out the sPvP mode first to learn your class’ mechanics and builds

Also, CC chaining is also the name of the game here. It’s just a lot easier to get out of with cleansing/stun break/stability/dodging

Right, but any recommendations as to what to read / research to get some good info? As I said, a lot of what I’m finding is old.

And yes, I was just getting into WvW at level 10 to see what it was like. Not to compete.

I’m hoping that CC chaining isn’t as garbage in this game as it is in wow…or at least as garbage as wow will continue to be until they remove some instant CC and reduce the diminishing return categories in 6.0.

Fair enough. Tier 1 (Jade Quarry, Tarnished Coast, Blackgate) tend to play the ‘PPT’ (Points Per Tick) game, which involves trying to score as many points as possible within the week long rotation, whereas Tier 2 claims to be (I don’t play there so I can’t confirm) more about trying to seek fights. Skill wise, I’ve found that each server is similar in terms of hardcore guilds vs casual pugs.

GW2 doesn’t have diminishing returns on CC, but there are many ways you can negate CC. Different classes have different mechanics for that.

Most of that alliance hasn’t been on YB for weeks (months) as they moved to BG and JQ a while ago. YB earned their way into T1, dominated it for weeks without any “elite” guilds and then had to listen to a handful of opponents drone on about how they weren’t really winning.

Face it, YB is Rebel Alliance and BG is the Empire.

Ok, so OnS, WHOA, fR, EK, TW, GS, eN etc. moving to YB didn’t count. Gotcha.

It’s unfortunate that you feel like moving off T1 but I completely understand. The post-season lull has brought out some of the worst zergs I’ve ever seen and it seems that havoc squads are gone.

That said, being an oceanic player, there’s no place BUT T1, for decent fights at least. If you’re an NA player, moving down to silver league might be a viable option. Not for me though

Being restricted with having fights only on EBG sounds ludicrously boring. Guilds go out of their way to avoid that map in T1. Pretty sure most guilds in T2 and T3 prefer the borderlands too.

Our home BL was queued for an hour and when I got in, I found around 20-30 people stacked up on the commander. It was freaking pathetic T_T

I’d just say uncouple cities from megaservers so we can go to LA, DR etc to yell for help and recruit for WvW specific guilds from a wider pool of players

Have you tried out the two PvP modes yet?

I quit GW2 because of boring PvE. Came back 10 months later because there were no other good MMOs at the time, tried out WvW and am absolutely having a blast nowadays.

Remove some stealth skills and replace them with regen or stability/protection skills imo.
