Tight knit community. Why else play an MMO?
What about griefing?
Taking out trebs hitting splash damage onto rams would be a terrible idea. Might as well make WvW into a giant karma train every matchup since it’ll be impossible to defend.
Also, there are certain positions you can place your rams where the rammers won’t be knocked back from treb or cata shots so if your zerg is large enough, just keep building rams. lrn2ramplacement. Otherwise, use catapults against a wall
When I click the button to guest into another North American server, they all show up as having the same level of population. I can only guest into two different servers in a day, so it’s not really feasible to just choose blindly until I land on a good one.
Is there a list anywhere of high-population servers, for those of us who aren’t in the know?
-Matt
Look up the WvW rankings. They are a very good indicator of actual population.
Blackgate, Jade Quarry, Sanctum of Rall and Tarnished Coast are all good options.
So where are we supposed to go to PvP? I don’t want to damage my team, but I want to learn how to play in WvW before I reach maximum level, and I really don’t like PvE.
Why don’t u start in like mmzz PvP ? collect some lvl thingy books, Do some karmatraining in eotm to get to lvl 80 as fast as possible :-) Uplvld in WvW is so annoying and can make a difference in win or lose… Small example : 10 vs 10 7of them go downed but they hit u ! u go dead they respawn and probably whipe the winning team.
Calling anyone a noob or whatever is just not done, Think it’s better to explain why ( even if it is 100x times ) to get a better understanding cause if u don’t know why they are raging u can’t chance a thing
Going into WvW is fine if you’re not 80. Get into your server’s voice comms (whether it be teamspeak, mumble, ventrilo or whatever your server uses) and ask questions. Every server will have people that are more than willing to help new players out. Most will bend over backwards to help you get started.
That’s my experience anyway. I entered into WvW as a level 60something elementalist my first time and did just fine from then on
Too much GvG, not enough actual WvW, means people on those so called “GvG” servers find it hard to get new blood into their guilds.
I think this is only an NA phenomenon.
Probably. ’Muricans like to Pee Vee the Dee?
personally i think a 2vs1 ruins the spirit and integrity of the game
2v1 is good tactics to flip structures and such. A T3 keep is near impossible to take if it’s defended in T1. Even if you bring 20 omega golems. As such. It’s smart for the third server to come help.
A 2v1 organised to secure ladder positions is less good tactics and more good politics, but incredibly boring for a huge chunk of the population in all 3 servers
Mounts would start to segregate players into haves and have-nots. The only way this can be avoided is stuff like the flying broom.
In other words, no to mounts
I love how the options op presents are negative.
Also love people saying how they rather get killed a lot and have “fun” as if thats any true, and lastly I love the remarks of some people on how they roam solo to duel.Guess what, as far as WvW is concerned, thats very useless, second only to afk on WP.
Not to mention you’ll almost always gonna find yourself outnumbered.WvW is won by either joining the big group, or supporting the big group with supplies, building/refreshing siege, snipe dolly/camps, scout and report the enemy zerg location, etc.
Roaming around looking for duels adds nothing, those 5 stomps you might pull out an hour are neglectable.
Right now is not so bad because of the low % of players, but when you have 100+ queue…So for those that do solo duel you may get off your high horse of delusional superior skill, if anything engaging multiple targets in a big fight can be much more demanding since there’s A LOT more going on.
Even the times I spend an hour siegeing up say Bay ALONE are more productive for the server than duels.I do not agree the only other option to zerging is solo roaming or looking for duels, there is plenty of area between, and roaming and dueling are often not the same activity.
From a PPT perspective, what is more effective for your server? 1 group of 50 or, let’s say, two groups of 15, a group of 10 and 2 groups of 5. I submit the later for most situations (PPT-wise).
From a “fights perspective”, doesn’t your individual impact increase as group size decreases? I find the combat system is at it’s best when in a group of 5, but each to their own.
Finally, from the comments it seems there is a broad swath of people who like the low stress, low accountability environment of the zerg. That’s fine and it is fun to run around the map as a big server group, but it’s not optimum for either the objective of winning the weekly match-up or encountering difficult fights to improve guild skill and coordination.
There’s not even enough space on the map for 2 groups of 15, 1 of 10 and 2 of 5. The group of 50 will just go around roflstomping the smaller groups. A 45 man group plus 5 people sitting in towers for ACs or door trebs > 50 people spread out into 5 groups. The people in towers will delay long enough for the zerg to show up and stomp the smaller groups and collect bags.
If the maps were three times as large, you would have a point.
BG used the ‘5 groups of 10’ very effectively during S2 while we were double teamed. Though it meant we couldn’t upgrade any structure since we couldn’t hold them, it did mean that we could take anything we wanted on the map since we were hitting 5 different objectives at once
Our guild runs Glint/Mallyx for zergs with Hammer/Staff. It’s essentially a buff bot. Wanderer’s gear is good, but anything that’ll allow you to stay relatively tanky is also good. Just provide your frontline with fury and resistance and that’s your job done. Even better if you can land some good CoRs.
There has been virtually no content added – one dungeon path got changed, one dragon event got broken, and they added fractals and southsun – but there’s nothing to do in southsun.
What an absurd comment to make.
How it is absurd? It’s the objective truth. There has been no permanent content. Take someone who played in September of release, but hasn’t come back till today, and what are we going to show him?
“There’s been a lot of living story updates, but there’s nothing to show for it, and you can’t replay them.” Otherwise, there’s fractals and Southsun. That’s it.
You could argue that it’s a good thing. You’re not rushing to catch up on a lot of content, which is one of the factors stopping me from going back to many MMORPGs. You can hop into the current living story without skipping a beat
This is sad. Most posts are some made up complaint about how T1 servers should be the ones modified rather than the obvious where lower tier servers are the problem.
All tier 1 servers have a healthy WvW population, all the servers cap their maps, make heavy use of TS, have great organization, play constantly and have map blobs. All of these can be reduced to what people really want : an active server population.
I used to play in Ehmry Bay, moved over to blackgate. The reason I moved was the lack of a population in Ebay, WvW was a ghost town except for a few guilds who would do their private raids in their private TS and not invite people. This is different in Blackgate, guilds do run by themselves privately but they communicate between each other, there usually is a large guild running the “map tag” where any PUG can join in TS and listen. I dont even care about the rewards as I play 3 times a week with my guild JUST FOR FUN something that was impossible in Ebay.
And here is the reality anyone in the lower tier servers SHOULD be forced into a t2 or t3 server to “balance” the population. You want more Blackgates and Jade Quarries (the two t1 servers that have survived this long), you want more servers to get bummped up like TC did. Most people are proposing the inverse where you want to destroy T1 through harsher caps when what you want is to be a T1 server? You could probably shoot SoS into kitten compete with JQ/BG/TC right now just by moving a couple of guilds from the lower tiers into it.
I understand any lower tier server players having pride and not wanting to move, but if your complaint is that population is an issue and you dont want to move to a server with better population? thats all on you guys not the other servers…
Speaking for myself and a lot of the server players i know, we play for good fights, not to be on the biggest populated/organized WvW servers. We have great organization communication and we know, when we go up against numbers, we have to up our game. So no, we don’t want to be on blackgate. I wouldn’t suggest changing Blackgate anymore than changing NSP. We don’t have a problem being silver or bronze or gold for that matter. We simple want good fair fights, not the Roflstomps we get on either side. We want WvW to reflect good play tactics, not the number of bodies on the field. I’d love to see a WvW that pit us against Blackgate on equal footing, but that’s not going to happen in this current system.
Having played in Darkhaven and ET before, I can tell you those servers are not organised at all. They have pugmanders that aren’t in TS karma training and avoiding fights unless they outnumber their opponent because there’s no coordination. There’s little to no use of their public TS even though there may be 50 people on the map (which happened when I was in ET, huge number of people on the maps, total 6 people in the entire TS, no tag up). It’s that lack of organisation that hurts the lower tiers. The lack of team work and team spirit and making an effort to communicate with your teammates.
In T1, there’s very little of ‘wiping pug zergs with guild groups’. Why? It’s not cause the guilds are bad. It’s simply due to the fact that when you have an entire 40-60 man zerg in TS with the pugmander, it doesn’t matter that it’s not a guild group because it’s still going to move like one. In DH, there was a ‘zerg busting’ guild that I followed around for a bit just to observe. That guild could’ve been taken out by havoc squads in T1 and T2 but were killing groups 3 times their size. There’s a simple difference in organisation between the lower tiers and the higher tiers that you simply can’t cross in a short amount of time and is the difference between Gold and Silver league servers.
It’s impossible for ANet to have made it any clearer…
This thread is a waste of time
Splash damage on catas is fine. Defending isn’t supposed to be possible with “limited manpower”. If limited manpower could defend against a larger zerg, siege bunkering would completely take over, which one wants and everyone knows is dull. A small group is supposed to be able to delay a larger group taking an objective. Not completely stop it.
For me, anything in wvw is fine as long as it doesn’t involve illegal activities (DDoS), exploiting or spawn camping.
The lv22 thing only applies to the UI. There’s nothing stopping anyone from entering the mists at level 2.
Would be nice BUT! EU will get wrecked by NA coverage. The vast majority of Oceanic/SEA players play on NA servers so playing against EU during these hours will be PvDoor against EU servers
Also China would out coverage everyone with their 1000man queue
If the people who guest to BG just stay and organise things on their own server, it’d be much better for everyone.
Way too many people guest here for inconsequential PvE stuff like LA champ train. Wurm and Teq I can understand – BG has a pretty solid foundation for open world boss raids, but for your regular events like LA? Really?
Nothing you can do. Anets gross ignorance of their actual player numbers means world events will have to be guested. Low pop servers are suffering and with season2 of wvw coming, they’re going to be starving of even more people.
Maybe if they stop guesting they’ll find that their servers actually have a lot of people.
I was in an overflow once for Wurm and saw 20-30 people from Kaineng there, using BG’s teamspeak. I was just like… lulwut? If these people put a bit of effort into making a solid community on their own server like what BG did early on, they wouldn’t have this problem.
Crafting superior siege could just be thrown into Huntsman/Weaponsmith/Artificer crafting categories. Would make things so much easier.
I sense a lot of racist undercurrents here. Some of the comments here are just outright disgusting.
Double points for taking a structure belonging to 1st place? That’d be a pretty good incentive
I tend to avoid pugging with guilds that have a closed off feel. It doesn’t feel welcoming and it doesn’t feel fun. The attitude of some WvW vets towards pugs are also pretty disgusting. Especially from those so-called “fight” guilds.
What? It’s rather unlikely you’re getting 2v1’d and more likely you’re just outnumbered
These guys are amazing. During the time they were active, they did tons of work for Blackgate and its community. Can’t recommend them more, especially if you’re an EU player looking to be on an NA server.
Buy gems and transfer to T1. It’s the meta solution to all of WvW problems.
You’ll have less chance of getting map completion in T1 than in T8. It’s actually easiest to complete in T8 as you can get your PvE guild, if it’s large enough, get on the map you need completion on, and completely take it over if you have a decent amount of people. If that happens in T2 or T1, you’ll simply get farmed for loot bags while you try to run around taking points.
It’s terrible news for WvW. So many of us go to LA or Gendarran Fields to ask for help in WvW when it’s needed. Just going to screw a lot of PvE heavy servers over
It’s impossible for ANet to have made it any clearer…
This thread is a waste of time
You obviously can’t read.
What can’t I read? That people are crying they got locked out of WvW when it was clearly told to them WEEKS before season 2 started? As well as a warning screen when they were transferring? Is it me who can’t read? Or is it these people crying they got locked out of WvW who can’t read?
Stop rewarding the zerglings the most in world vs world. The path of least resistance…
sigh
oPP zerg too stronk
Ballista can be absorbed. Others can’t
The amount of siege and PvE bullsittery that just got announced just makes me want to quit the game tbh. We won’t know how it’ll work until release since ANet doesn’t do a PTR, but hey…
I got to see the cannons in action this morning. They were an excellent counter to a massive zerg. Usually when you are faced with an enemy that is like a huge red tide rushing in on your “smaller numbers” you could kiss anything you were holding goodbye.
Its a game changer. Will it be exploited in the near future? If it can be done you can take it to the bank that players will try lol.
I wanted to add that it didn’t help every time, but sometimes it could turn the tide. (bad pun intended :P)
That’s nice and all when you’re defending, but it just becomes stupidly obnoxious when a large zerg uses it against you while you’re the smaller force. It legit renders any kind of counterplay impossible due to the chill stacking. When you have 60-70 people camping 10+ cannons, there’s nothing you can do but give up the structure.
I think a major way we can tone down CoR is to give it a 2 second rooted cast time with a 5 second cooldown. That way, we can keep its damage while giving us significant counterplay by having ranged classes being able to focus out the revenant before they can cast the skill, or have them tank the damage and land the skill and deal the broken damage it deals now.
I find zerg fights fun. I disagree it’s mindless – especially for the backline. An organised group of 50 vs another organised group of 50 can be an intense and drawn out battle.
Siege need hard nerfs, not buffs
Looking for Mesmers and Guardians!
ACs, the way I see it, should be a purely defensive siege option. An anti-siege option, if you will. Similar to the way ballistas work, except with AoE, as well as having siege damage nerfed to players, but increased hard against other siege.
That way you could take out enemy siege with ACs pretty quickly as a defensive option (let’s say, 5-7k damage per tick rather than 1-1.5k on siege structures), while still forcing you to fight to defend your structure if they break in. It should not be an anti-zerg tool.
The current mindset is that a few people should be allowed to hold a structure against a larger force indefinitely without having to fight for it. I think all this does is encourage siege bunkering – something that is extremely boring to play against. We need to encourage more fighting for structures, not sieging.
(edited by Reverence.6915)
give reasons why guid basd wvw would not Promote wvw! i still don’t see any clear reason.
You have 5 guilds. How the heck would it split you into WvW?
Also, the vast majority of guilds in this game are casual PvE guilds. They’re not going to go into WvW in the first place. All this does is reduce participation in WvW. Not increase.
EoTM isn’t competitive because there’s no identity associated with one side. No communication between players to create a community. The colours change every week so why bother getting to know and communicate with these people when they could be your opponent next week? Servers have server forums and voice comms that create a sense of community when you’re logging on to them and seeing/talking to the same people everyday. EoTM doesn’t have that
I agree that the upgrading process is slow and painful, but it IS a lot easier defending than attacking, provided you have an organised zerg. 1 person can hold off an entire zerg from breaking down a gate with just 1 door treb. 2 people can push off an entire zerg and even kill some of them. 3 people and the structure (provided it is sufficiently sieged up) is impossible to take.
This is assuming your opponents aren’t using AC tricks to take out your siege.
Vortex…
I think everyone got a bit drunk on that night
We (my guild and I) play for large scale PvP, not facing off against siege monkeys. If you want to sit on siege, that’s your prerogative. We’re not going to give you the satisfaction of killing us with siege. We’ll simply walk away because it’s not fun for us.
ANet is just wasting the fantastic combat system on PvE and LS updates, rather than focus on sPvP and WvW, which has been the endgame for GW2. Those two sorely neglected game modes (with a missing GvG mode) is what this game is suffering from. Screw the PvE. You get a few skins then grind for 1000s of hours for the next few skins. Put the attention into WvW and watch the player base reinvigorate itself on proper endgame content.
Low morale is a big issue in WvW. It’s extremely difficult to come back from a bad reset night, and even harder when you’re outnumbered in 2-3 out of the 4 maps.
I wonder if SBI and FA belong in gold though. Looking at TC, SoS and Mag scores (and tactics), I doubt they would’ve done any better…
Btw a if they work on a dota mode i wont be angry (+wvw map ofc)
No plz…
yes pls…
/laugh
WvW is a PvP mode. Once you step inside, get ready for fights. It’s not sunshine and rainbows here mate.
The problem isn’t so much BG getting double teamed, but the reason behind it. There’s not enough motivation from the other two T1 servers to play for first, since it’s actually more beneficial to trade wins.
Blame the system
Step 1. Create a dummy guild
Step 2. Invite friend to said guild
Step 3. Give friend access to withdraw from the guild bank
Step 4. Deposit money into guild bank
Step 5. Friend withdraws from bank
Step 6. ???
Step 7. Profit!!!
Siege should have a countdown timer to avoid troll siege being stuck there until an enemy comes over to take your structure. It’s a pretty good way to ensure that siege you don’t want gets removed. 1hr isn’t that long that troll siege placement can be extremely devastating, and it isn’t that short that you can chill about siege refreshment since it’s once every 50-55mins for around 5-10 mins
Guardians everywhere, since they can more or less do the 3 roles
Having Trinity officially in the game would force a total revamp of the entire system, so Guardian as we know it today would be different.
I think having “no trinity” is the stupidest design choice Anet made among many bad choices, but that’s just me.
And your opinion is just that – an opinion.
Why would they make their game exactly like all the trinity games out there?!Because well, one famous trinity-based game has been around for like 10 years – with more players SUBSCRIBED then have only PURCHASED GW2. It’s a model that works in the long run.
GW2 was great. But now that we’re in the aging process of the game, the system in place just isn’t cutting it. I’m bored..
WoW at the age GW2 is currently at was a complete wreck of a game too. Botters, hackers, private servers, scammers, account selling, bugs, glitches, poor raid systems, poor pvp, limited pve etc etc. Put some perspective on it.
Interesting how the only matchup that’s competitive this week is ours.
Probably an even bigger issue than the Gold league schedule.
