Ugh, please nooo. I love my tonics and I don’t use them for evil… Unless you count stomping people in Doll tonic form evil.

Remove the ones that are used in an exploitative way and leave the others.

It’s fun to play around with tonics, instruments and toys when you’re bored or wanting to show that you’re neutral when around an enemy player.

No thanks.

I realize that this is Guild Wars and all, but many of us aren’t in guilds or aren’t in WvW active guilds.

I agree that the linking failed and I agree that servers need to be balanced better but this isn’t strictly a GW2 problem. It happens in other games with similar systems and much of the fault is placed squarely on us, the players, for manipulating that system.

I can’t think of a proper solution but I do know that making it guild based wouldn’t be the right answer.

Can we please stop posting things related to this person? The Necromancer community is widely known for being compassionate and willing to teach those who are new to the profession. This guy is just a massive flamebait and anything with him involved turns in to a troll/rantfest. The only people who think what he says is valid are the ones who don’t ask questions about what he’s saying/doing.

Be constructive. There’s enough whining within the Necro forums as is due to our position among the other professions.

Wow, threads on these forums are getting worse and worse. Seems like most of the people that aren’t completely stupid have either left or stopped bothering to read this crap. Multiple stuns, how to retaliate?

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Many valid points.
Learning to read the attacks and avoiding/kiting the Warrior is a good strategy and yes, the point of a stun is to prevent retaliation. I hadn’t thought of it that way.

I asked on the forums so that I could get advice on how to defeat someone using this strategy. If you want to assume I’m a zergling and lack any skill you’re entitled to, but your advice will help me the next time I’m faced against someone like this. I’d like to think asking how to prevent it from happening after it has happened once instead of raging with a mile long post about how it should be nerfed after failing 100 times is a better approach.

Raiment of the Topless Charr/Asura

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

You say that as if there aren’t already a dozen armor sets that make female charr/asura topless.

Secondly, this is hardly an issue for the charr. The lore behind the female charr shirt is really that it’s just their out-of-armor casual clothing (see Ghosts of Ascalon). They don’t need to cover anything up because they’re covered with fur already. The asura also don’t have pronounced breasts in the same manner as humans/norn/sylvari, so it similarly isn’t that much of a problem, doubly so since there are no nipples being shown.

We see topless hylek, where’s the complaints about that? We see topless krait, where’s the complaints with that? Complaining about female charr/asura being topless is rather akin to complaining that animals don’t wear clothing. Unlike humans, asura don’t have pronounced breasts and the lore behind their culture shows that it’s an uncared for physical aspect.

Asura are attracted to ears. Maybe we should start covering up their ears more often so Asura don’t get over stimulated seeing these bare ears flopping around everywhere.

But in all seriousness, I view this the same way I always do. It’s a game, it’s fantasy, don’t project what you see here in to the real world and if you don’t like it don’t buy it, sheesh. GW2 is by far by faaaarrr the most tame MMO on the market when it comes to revealing armors. Why does it have to be offensive or removed just because you don’t like it? Some people do, I do. Make your character look how you want it to look, covered head to toe or buttnaked, who cares, it’s not real life, have fun with it and stop being so uptight.

P.S. Konig I wasn’t directing the rant portion of this post at you.

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I just come here to cheer myself up to be honest. It’s hilarious how 75% of the threads are about nerfs and 90% of the responses are “l2p.” And before some buttmad 12 year old asks where I got those numbers, I pulled them out of my behind for the sake of an example.

Just don’t take these forums seriously and you’ll be a lot less frustrated with them. The people who can’t learn to adapt/counter are the ones who turn to simple solutions like asking for nerfs. Of course, there are times then things legitimately are overpowered but it’s rarely the case.

People won’t stop begging for nerfs and acting superior by saying “l2p” then turning around and making their own nerf threads just because you ask them to. Unfortunately competitive game(s)/modes in basically any video game out there just breed this kind of mentality because not many people out there like to lose and only a few more than those that like to lose are comfortable with losing. Most people are just competitive by nature and when you start to feel inferior you want to blame it on anything but yourself.

I’m a crappy PvP’er and I know it but I also know how to improve the things I’m bad at because I recognize that I’m bad at them instead of blaming what I’m fighting. Sadly, that’s not a common way to think.

God what an awful attitude….Seriosuly..that’s NOT THE POINT! ..and if you lack the good grace and smarts to understand that, then it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if you were a griefer too.

I agree. If you don’t want to buy the traits and you have the option to get them through an event, why should you be forced to buy them because other players are being ignorant pricks?
You should be able to play the game the way you want, not the way others want you to play it.
I don’t suggest you waste your time trying to reason with these people but if you have as much time on your hands as I do you can always try to pick them apart until they find something better to do.

Hanging up the Druid

in Ranger

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

This isn’t strictly a Ranger/Druid problem. Everyone is just innately tanky now and the skill floor is abysmally low.

I still play core Ranger and Necromancer in WvW both small scale/solo and zerging and do just fine against most players, although it is definitely an uphill battle.

Personally, I find it more rewarding to beat players when I’m at a disadvantage. But there are many, many times where I also hate losing based on the build I’m fighting and not based on my skill. For example; I was fighting this Dragonhunter a few days ago who was trying to LOS me (as if he didn’t have enough of an advantage to begin with) and I wound up sending him some hatemail because I was frustrated that he was trying to cheese me when he really didn’t need to. It was my own stupidity for being stubborn but sometimes people just amaze me at how easy they want their wins to be.

Everyone’s different though so just because I can’t relate to it doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Sorry that you’re feeling how you are. I gave up on my Necro for quite some time because I felt I was at way too much of a disadvantage without Reaper until I put a build together that has been working really well. So I can understand how it sometimes feels like the class you’re playing isn’t worth it anymore.

Honestly though, small scale stuff in WvW just isn’t what it used to be and that’s all there is to it. Everything is either insta-gib or so stupidly hard to kill it’s boring.

what i think of PPK

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

PPK is wonderful. WvW veterans like myself are terribly bored of PPT because it’s unrewarding and not exciting. Fights are something new every time they happen because there are always different people, builds, guilds and geography involved.

The new players have far more things catering to their needs than the veterans and WvW almost strictly consists of people who love the game mode so dearly that they’re still hanging on to it. If you’re a new player, you’re in our territory which means either fight and have fun or get hunted while you attempt to ktrain until you rage quit.

Spawn camping is frustrating with that much I’ll agree but there are plenty of ways to counter it. Like not running straight in to their arms is a good start. Otherwise, roamers have always been a thing and now they have more of a purpose. I just wish as a solo roamer that being solo was more viable but I can’t complain with the abundance of fights. At least I don’t have to look for action anymore.

Have never cared much for JP’s as I’ve always been rather mediocre as well as having little patience for failure.

This newest JP in Siren’s Landing however, I very much enjoyed. So much so I’ve redone it a second time and am thinking about pursuing all the other JP’s through out Tyria.

Although it wasn’t as intuitive as some of the other JP’s I’ve attempted, it was still very enjoyable and a real test of skill and patience. I believe I spent a good 30 minutes climbing it speaking with people along the way and having some laughs.

So I just wanted to say thanks, ANet. Although I’m really not much of a PvE player, that was probably the first time I’ve genuinely enjoyed myself outside of WvW/PvP.

Half-naked females, fully draped males.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

This annoys me because it seems to be a repeat of the Phlanx armor debacle. For those who don’t remember, this is what Phalanx looks like:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Phalanx_armor_human_male_front.jpg

Wow, that’s cool! I’ll just go and buy it for my female Warrior…

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Phalanx_armor_human_female_front.jpg

…wait, where’s the cool helmet? The sleek breastplate? The practical, yet slightly intimidating pants? Why’s the female version made from a different material?

The issue isn’t as noticeable in the Envoy armor designs, but they still look off. The medium male design has a nicely detailed shirt, while the female one is just a bikini. It looks dumb, not sexy.

This is an issue with taste really. Male and female armors cannot be identical. Just look at phoenix armor. Most people agree that the male version is horrible, while the female version is great. In fact, female armors are generally better looking and more detailed. Just because one armor set ended up looking inferior for females, it’s not the end of the world.

Sure, in some cases they can’t. Kasmeer’s armor would look weird on males. However, nothing in the female physique is in conflict with the male version of Phlanx. The male model could easily be applied to females after some adjustments to make it fit their slightly different shape, like a wider hip, thinner waist and maybe some boob plates if they’re really necessary. Instead, ANet made a completely separate female design for no reason at all.

And yes, it’s not the end of the world and I don’t see anyone claiming it is. However, sometimes designers and/or marketing screw up and it’s good if someone points that out to them. I thought they learned their lesson after the community backlash from Phlanx, but apparently they didn’t.

Dark Souls has always had a good strategy when designing their genders. A female can wear lipstick and a dress? Identical dress and lipstick can be used on a male. No discrimination what so ever. There are literally dresses you can put on males.

The only issue I ever had is that their female characters have mosquito bite boobs. Now, I’m a woman myself but it totally bothers me how tiny those boobs are. You need at least a little more than that when wearing certain clothes for the proper amount of shape and appeal. Otherwise it looks too… Juvenile? I’m not sure how to explain it, it just always bothered me. Like I don’t think I’d wear a really high class dress if I had really tiny boobs. It’d be like a really thin guy wearing a tiny, thin muscle shirt, the ones designed for body builders. It looks awkward. Some apparel actually needs that gender definition.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Stop taking my godkitten profession specific mechanic away from me when I enter PvP and I’ll be happy… That is honestly all I care. Building up Life Force is not easy unless you’re built to do it. Which means we start every match as a cripple until we get at least 20 – 30% LF generated. I’m sorry but no matter how you put it, this is completely unfair to me. Start us off with a minimum of 20% Life Force and I’ll be content. Draining it to 0 is completely stupid and I shouldn’t have to sacrifice minions or staff AA someone a dozen times to use what’s central to my profession.

As for PvE, yes we’re definitely lacking and I’d support a rework. But we’re not incapable of doing PvE we’re just not top tier. If we join a dungeon it’ll go about 1minute slower. It’s not like we can’t finish the dungeon or like it’ll take ten times longer.

Difficulties with Dungeons & LFG

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I both agree and disagree with this…

I certainly understand your position, but like most, you’re failing to see other peoples perspectives. As someone who does dungeons daily as a means of accumulating gold, I don’t want them to take an entire day. I want to run the paths and be on my way to WvW where I enjoy myself most. But people like yourself who think they have some sort of right to push in to a group when they’re clearly going to be a dead weight are just as bad as those not willing to help these people. We all have to begin somewhere, and there are many times I will set my time aside to help certain individuals to learn strategies and what ever else they might be inclined to know. But when I have asked for experience in my group description and people completely disregard it, sorry… You’re out. If I’m hosting a party and I invite you to my house under the condition you don’t bring a bunch of friends and trash the place, I expect you to cooperate. I’m providing you with a place to have fun and be social, but because you believe you have some sort of right you invite a bunch of extra people anyway and puke all over the place after drinking too much. Which of us is the bad guy here? Me for limiting your evening or you for being ignorant?
The point is, you have the option to host your own group for a reason. Yes, there certainly are a lot of groups asking for “experience” or “zerkers” or “80’s” or what ever else, but there’s a reason for that; it’s their group. They are the host of this party and you are a guest in their home. If you want to set the rules, invite people in to your house and see how you feel when they start telling you what to do…

fix maul please

in Ranger

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Damage modifiers, probably running BM and MM; moment of clarity (50% dmg increase on next attack upon interrupt.) and remorseless (25%dmg increase on gaining fury.) along with two-handed training (5% dmg increse and chance to proc fury.) and might stacks. Common combo is maul, hilt bash (resets maul cd.) Maul. The latter maul will hurt.
Highly telegraphed skill tho, easy to avoid. Outside of pulling that combo off, ranger GS is rather lackluster damage wise, good utility and sustain tho.
Bottom line; if you see a giant bear emerging from the ranger, and this is really easy to spot and avoid, dont get hit.

This basically. The Ranger will usually be full Zerk or very close to it, running Tiger, stacking might and vuln, taking all traits that give him modifiers. It can deal an extreme amount of damage (I’ve seen 10k, but I think it can go up to 12k?) but you need to setup and make an interrupt.

There’s also a giant bear with 0.75 second cast time on Maul, 0.5 second with quickness. With low ping, still dodgeable/blockable.

It can go up to 20k or higher in the right circumstances. On average though, between 4 and 10k.

My Ranger is spec’d for maximum damage (although it is not a greatsword build) and my Mauls average about 6 – 8k. The highest one I’ve hit on a player was 13k but I’m positive it could go much higher if it was a dedicated Maul build.

As for the OP, Maul is literally the most telegraphed skill in the game. Yes it hits hard but there are numerous skills from other professions that hit harder, faster and with less of a tell. The only advantage Maul has is it’s very low cooldown and the ability to change directions while casting it because of how delayed it is.

Mesmer as a whole needs some adjustments. Condition and PU (not every condition Mesmer is PU) especially.

I don’t think stealth + conditions are a problem but I do think that multiple blocks + invulnerability on top of being physically tanky while dealing very high condition damage is a problem.

I’m going to hold true to the opinion that Mesmer has too many ways to go immune to everything. They probably have more access to invulnerability than any other profession. And remember that immune and invulnerable are two different things.

Improve walls pls, so we can defend

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

its pretty ridiculous. walking up to a wall edge is a death sentence, cuz if you dont get pulled you will get bursted down in a few secs by random aoes.

would be really nice if this wasnt the case. defenders need not only incentives but actual mechanics that work in their favor.

What is ridiculous about it? Should attackers just politely stand there and let defenders attack them? Its just a ridiculous argument to make, if something doesn’t work for you, use better strategy. If you are in an exposed position do you honestly expect enemies not to use skills to attack you? What game mode are you playing exactly?

Lmfao, you and anyone else that think this isn’t an issue are just the karma farming tools that can’t peel through a gate fast enough.

Attackers have the advantage of resources and time. Defenders have nothing but what they’ve pre-built and back up defenders if there are enough people on the map/able to come to their aid.

If walls were made thicker or if AOE’s were changed or what ever solution were put in to place, it would not make attacking any more difficult. Find a hill, build a ballista, use a trebuchet, etc. Once that structure is drained of supplies or the defenders inside don’t have blueprints, there’s nothing more they can do to prevent the attackers from pushing through.

That’s the difference between attacker and defender. Defender can turtle all they want and hug all the siege they want but if the attackers are patient and smart, they can either kill all the siege with properly placed counter siege or they can continue to pressure the structure until there are no more supplies to sustain it.

Yes it takes time but why is that a problem? Some of the best fights are had trying to capture something from a defending onslaught. If you want fast karma and XP go to EOTM or develop some patience for actual strategy.

EDIT: Also on the note of “defending being made easy” as you’ve been saying about post HoT, so what? PPT doesn’t matter anymore right? That’s what everyone’s always saying? Then why does it matter if things are hard to take or not?

I’m still trying to see what’s the problem of losing some structures in a game mode where “winning” means nothing.

Fine. Let’s use your logic. Why do you play Guild Wars 2? Why do you spend hours, day after day, playing a game where there is no “winning”?

I don’t know about Jeknar but since I quoted him I’ll say;

Because it’s fun.

I don’t care if my server wins or loses. I do a lot of scouting and I don’t care if the objective that I’m scouting gets captured either. I do it because I like to do it not because I care what happens to the tower/camp/keep.

I understand that winning is important to some people but having fun is important to others. My fun is not mandated by my servers victories but by how much I enjoy being around the players on my server. We can come dead last every week for all I care. I sign on every day to laugh and collect bags.

Frankly, I wouldn’t blame it on the good meta players at all. Their group descriptions always express what they expect clearly and concisely. The blame here is on those players who refuse to read the advertisement and just join.
My advertisement format usually goes like this:
Zerk|Speedrun|XP|PX|Already in
In an ideal world, they would have to read the whole ad to know if I’m running the path they’re looking to run. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal world, so I often get Clerics, Soldiers and other undesired stat combos despite the fact that I explicitly stated what I was looking for.

At first I wouldn’t ask them to ping their gear, as I would trust people to do their part, but after experiencing this situation over and over, I now feel compelled to do so if I want to have quick, efficient runs.

I don’t enjoy having to tell people that they don’t meet the group’s expectations and kick them afterwards, but I must.

So yeah, my beef isn’t with casual/inexperienced players. It’s just that insta-joiners happen to be casual/inexperienced most of the time.

^
I very often teach people who are new to dungeons, or even the game in general, what to do and how to do it. I by no means mind showing people the ropes (most of the time.) And for those that already understand, I don’t mind if the run is a bit slow either. But when I’m farming, or not in the mood for having to explain every detail of a dungeon’s strategies, I’ll specifically state so in my group description. Which is usually the path(s) I’d like to run and my requirements. Eg. P3 ~ [Experienced.] Not that strict… If you join and decide to run all over the place and not listen to the group when we ask for you to cooperate, you’re out.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with stacking or “meta.” Although it does suck a lot of the fun out of dungeons, honestly they’re not that fun done the “proper” way either. Stacking is the easiest way to share boons/buffs, get people up if they go down and to keep damage packed tightly on the enemy(s) at all times. It’s not an exploit it’s a strategy, as boring and repetitive as it may be. If you don’t want to skip mobs, state so in your description. Some people are okay with that. Personally, I try to avoid skipping enemies as well but only if it won’t take a lengthy period of time to clear them. It’s too much effort for no return. Maybe if it were actually fun I’d be more interested…
Anyway, if you don’t want to be kicked or yelled at or what ever else… Read the group description carefully before joining. Or, make your own group with your own requirements.
As long as people aren’t blatantly bashing others like calling them idiots or what ever else, I really see no problem with kicking if the person has directly gone against what the host has asked in their description. Their entitled to their preference as much as yourself.

Mesmer confirmed new ANet pet class.

Necromancer still getting kicked in the teeth.

I’ve hung around for a long time… If the changes are as kittenty as I think they’re going to be, I’ll be finished with the game. Of course, I’ll have to try the changes first, I won’t stop playing just based on what I see on paper here… But if it’s anything like I imagine it to be, ANet can kiss my wallet goodbye which has payed it a few hundred dollars every month.

To those who say “git gud”/“L2P” etc., or that they found the fight easy – I thought I made it clear in the OP that this fight isn’t difficult, it’s artificially difficult. There’s a big difference.

I did this fight on a semi-tank Warrior and I didn’t die at all, though I did down a couple times getting greedy. The fight wasn’t complicated or hard, it was annoying. It was annoying that I was being punished for things I couldn’t avoid/couldn’t see and it didn’t teach me through example. It’s like giving your dog a treat for doing something right and scolding it for doing something wrong versus giving it a treat for no reason and scolding it for no reason. It’s not going to stop crapping on your carpet if you’re not scolding it when it does.

Those of you that it was easy for had good RNG. Hate to break it to you, it isn’t skill. There are no amount of evades or Stability stacks that can prevent every CC in that fight unless a) you end it in under 60 seconds or b) RNG is on your side and you’re not hit while you’re trying to DPS.

There are lots of encounters like this in other games that teach you nothing and are poorly designed. There’s nothing “wrong” per-se with doing this, it’s just lazy is all. If people are asking for more difficult fights in GW2, give them more difficult fights, not gimmicks. I’ve seen enough comments that agree with me when I say many people came out of that fight not feeling good about it. Most just decided they wouldn’t do it a second time.

So again to clarify, I didn’t find this fight hard. I found it cheap and crappily designed because I was being punished when I shouldn’t have been and rewarded when I shouldn’t have been.

Anyway /end rant. I’m not angry about any of this, I just felt it was necessary to add my opinion to the growing list of others who didn’t enjoy this encounter. Perhaps ANet will try to design some actual difficult fights in the future rather relying on gimmicks. I know they’re capable of doing it and I’d like to see it happen.

Fighting a guild-mate warrior in our arena. I think he has roughly 30 seconds of continuous resistance.

dont forget 30 sec of 2stack of stability and retaliation. Pretty much immune to everything.
Boon bots with extreme dmg. They should and must be toned down.

I play mostly shout warrior, but even with shout and WH and Ire cleansing, you cannot “out-cleanse” any decent condi build… Sure, you wont get knocked over, but you’ll melt against condi users…

That’s because you’re not supposed to “out cleanse” them. Just like you’re not supposed to out block/immune physical damage. You avoid the hard hitters and recover from the ones you can survive.

That kind of mentality is exactly the reason so many people think condition builds are OP. Because they think they should be able to cleanse everything and kill them in two shots. Figure out what the biggest threats are and avoid them. Save cleanses for when they’re needed instead of trying to get rid of everything that hits you. You’re not going to go an entire fight without taking a few ticks of condition damage just like you’re not going to go an entire fight evading/blocking every single attack from a power build.

Roaming: Who, what, why, how? #Discussion

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Who, what

Roaming is roughly defined as small scale capture and combat. Typically consisting of 1 – 2 players, though definitions vary.

Players who adventure by themselves or with a friend(s) are prepared for and often seeking fights. Their builds will be meta or custom to suit their needs, usually with mobility taking top priority.

These players will capture small objectives such as sentry and supply camps, kill dolyaks and contest objectives if necessary. Depending on the motivation of the player(s), they may also attempt larger objectives.

Why

  • Some players are more independent than others and prefer to have greater control over their goals.
  • Boredom, practice, recording combat videos or to support their main zerg by counter capturing and contesting to split up the enemy.
  • For most – just because they can.

How

An effective roamer is a vigilant one. Strong map awareness and in a constant state of seek and destroy. To survive for extended periods of time, they must be skilled combatants by themselves or supported by players they are familiar with. Their limitations are clear and they are familiar with when to retreat and when to commit.

Build, communication, knowledge and practice keep them afloat while the desire for the surprises that every encounter holds spurs them on.

Roaming is as much a part of WvW as zerging but it was not/is not the purpose of the game.

There are many players who are passionate about small scale combat, most who are driven by the hopes that Anet will bring a near perfect balance to their passion. There is no God. Your balance won't happen.

While skill is a great deal of what keeps a good roamer alive, build and the build(s) they face have a near equal say in the outcome. A good player can achieve victory over almost anything, but due to the rock, paper, scissor design of combat, even the best can fall to mechanics. This can be remedied with co-op, however the drawbacks of doing so are significant; One players decisions are not as impactful, effort needed to defeat a single player is greatly reduced, more players will avoid you, and the more players you are with, the more chances of having your positions scouted and becoming overwhelmed.

Many players have become frustrated with roaming thanks to powercreep and design changes in objectives over the years. While there is still a breathing community of players that enjoy the small scale side of things, a lot of these players feel betrayed or forgotten due to the aforementioned.

I’m sure everyone already knows all of this, but I just wanted to bounce it back to you.

That’s why it’s important to remember that having fun should be the #1 priority, not being the best there ever was. Don’t worry about what builds are broken, whether Anet is listening to you or if you’re making a difference. Adapt to the meta and use what you can to your advantage – no one ever said fights had to be fair. If you’re expecting balance, if you’re expecting your elite knowledge of all the nuances of every mechanic, you’re wrong, everyone loses sometimes.

So please, continue to play what you like, how you like, and get out there. I can’t wait to see all the new faces once Path Of Fire drops but most of all, I can’t wait to see those who are passionate still enjoying themselves.

With all that said, what are some of your most memorable moments roaming? What was your favorite time in the meta? What does roaming mean to you? And anything else you want to discuss! (:

You know another thing comes to mind. Women don’t exactly wear plated armor in public but they do wear mini skirts, tube tops and other apparel that leaves little to the imagination. Then, when it’s mirrored in a video game suddenly it’s impractical and too revealing?

I understand completely how this subject can be controversial but I don’t understand why the real world seems to slip away in favor of a video game. If anyone wanted to see half naked women they’d have to look no further than their local shopping mall. Stop trying to replace life with video games… Don’t like unrealistic characters? Go outside. Don’t want to go outside? Don’t play a fantasy video game and go be a creep on Second Life. Because everyone knows simulators are just so much better… -Sarcasm-.

Ranger discrimination.. lol

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I feel you. I’ve had lots of people berate me for choosing to play a Ranger and while I understand that it doesn’t contribute as much to a zerg as many other professions do, it does have it’s place.

I’ve also had many people make fun of me when I happen to mention anything about my class in chat such as the time someone said “get on a real class and you’ll be fine” or “can you even kill anyone with a Ranger?”

I have more hours in WvW than a lot of people and probably more hours in my Ranger alone than a lot of people do in their entire accounts. It doesn’t mean I’m skilled but it does mean I have a heap of experience. I know exactly what I’m doing and how to do it and I don’t need to be criticised by brain dead zerglings. I may be a Diamond rank but I got many of those ranks by playing by myself or in small scale and I’m one of the few Diamonds who continues to do things alone.

And on that note, I’d bet money I die less, pay attention to the commander better and get at least enough kills to be considered relevant. I may be restricted to singular targets but let me tell you I am the bane of all staff Ele’s. I understand 110% that my profession of choice is not optimal and doesn’t contribute as much as a meta build but others need to understand that a competent player is just as valuable as a player with a meta build.

4 years in: siege overhaul

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Only made it about a quarter of the way through the book you are writing before I got tired of seeing the same common theme in all your ideas which is basically “bring a blob”.

Your ideas seem better suited for eotm than they do for WvW.

I don’t get your point: nobody defends in EOTM.
My idea is: siege counters siege and slows down the attackers. If you want to kill the attackers, you need people. If you don’t have people to defend, you lose the objective.

And that’s why your suggestions sound like they should be in eotm. Making blobbing even more rewarding than it already is doesn’t help WvW.

Ac’s won’t stop a superior force unless they are stupid or to lazy to commit. Making rams stronger by having multiple people man them makes small groups less effective.

If the only way to get things done is by blobbing harder you will only end up with more people quitting when there is no tag running, more bandwagoning to the bigger servers and more k-trains without resistance.

How would this improve WvW?

You know what always leaves me scratching my head when people complain about AC’s?

Why can the players not devise a more constructive way to approach a defended objective?

“Can’t ram it, too many AC’s. Can’t cata it, too many AC’s.”

I’ve said this many times, the attacking force almost always has the advantage of resources. If something is well defended – whittle it down. You don’t need to crack a structure within 60seconds of attacking it unless there’s a massive enemy blob that you’re trying to outpace. In which case, you might want to plan your attacks more carefully.

There are a lot of players who love to sit in towers or keeps with AC’s and there are a lot of commanders who are very aggressive and will rush to anything they see that’s contested so that they can wipe what ever is attacking it. A lot of people try to brute force things, drop half a dozen rams/catapults and tank the AC’s. Others try a similar strategy but pull off when people are taking too much damage. Both things incredibly basic/one dimensional and a huge waste of time.

As the attacking force, you have resources. You can run to supply camps, you can choke their supplies, you can bait the offending zerg elsewhere. It takes time and strategy but why is that a bad thing? Why is everyone obsessed with nerfing siege and defences when all it’s going to do is further promote karma farming and brainlessness?

People seriously need to start looking at WvW as a strategy based format and not a race against time. Sure, there will be times when you’ll need to beat the clock but for the most part, it should be about trying to figure out how you can outsmart your opponents instead of how many rams you can throw. Why do players consider it “boring” when they can’t get inside a structure right away? Is it not fun having to use your head? I suppose that’s more of an opinion so it’s not really valid but my point is that reducing the effectiveness of defences is only going to make WvW even less strategic.

Some what off topic here but when I command in EOTM, I love it when I can’t just tear something open. When I have to think more carefully about how we’re going to approach something. That’s why 90% of the time when I tag up, I do it when we have less than 20 people on the map and Outnumbered buff. Because I know it’s going to require me to do things other than throwing rams and running circles around the map. I’ll have to consider what the enemy commander wants; do they want bags? Do they want to protect what’s theirs? Are they a newbie and just want XP? I’ll have to consider what both sides will be attacking so that we’re not caught with our pants down; Will red zerg be here when we attack this? Is blue zerg defending that? And if there’s defensive siege, I have to think of ways to counter it; Eg just this morning, blue side had prepared AC’s and cannons outside Forge wall and pushed us off when we tried to attack it with Siege Scorpians. I was happy about that because it meant I had to come up with a plan. I distracted the blue zerg by contesting an objective of theirs, I took our zerg to capture something else, we circled around and built ballistas to kill their siege then WP’d home and came back again. It takes longer but again, I don’t see why this is a problem. It should be fun to have to use your head. But apparently most players just want to remove the middle man entirely so they can slaughter each other all day or get XP with no resistance, both of which would get repetitive and boring very quickly.

So personally my vote is to leave defences just the way they are. I would even be in favor of buffing defences to further promote strategic play on the offensive side. It would need to be very precise buffs however or you would risk making defence so desirable, it would be all anyone would do. You get my point though I hope.

Also this isn’t directed specifically at you by the way, Jim. Just the topic at hand.

Remember the stealth

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

It is highly unpleasant when good glass thief put you on your kitten with 2-3 hits but it is usually your own fault. Don’t go on glass zerk builds in WVW.

So thief can go glass cannon and survive but not other classes ? logic !

Stealth is my only defense while I play glass cannon, if stealth was nerfed I would die like the rest of you and I don’t want to, I just want to backstab and feel good about myself.

Thief must be able to kill any other classes because we cannot partecipate to zergs, and we are also pro players the rest of you must l2p.

Conditions are broken ! I have 0 condi cleanse because I need to invest everything in stealth/burst.

No but seriously, stealth needs to be reworked, go play in OS and count how many thiefs are there… a lot ? you know why ? because it’s the best class for 1vs1 and people play it because they want easy fights, they don’t want to learn how to manage cds or dodges, they just want to spam.

+1

Everything here = truth.
Thieves are a medium weight profession. You don’t have to spec in to stealth or be glassy to win fights.. Thieves just seem to forget that Berserker stats and 100% stealth uptime aren’t the only options available to them. There are plenty of other ways to roll your Thief but because the vast majority would rather be a troll and get easy kills they blame everyone for needing to L2P.. You’re the ones giving yourselves a bad name, not us.

How is your server's WvW community?

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I’ve been on:
Dragonbrand, Jade Quarry, Desolation (EU), Seafarer’s Rest (EU), Isle Of Janthir, Yak’s Bend, Ferguson’s Crossing, Kaineng, Crystal Desert and Darkhaven in that order.

Things to note from the server’s I’ve been on:
Dragonbrand has a poor community and aren’t very good on the open field. They rely too heavily on their SEA blob.

JQ are strong as players but have a lot of rude players.

I hated Desolation. Period.

Seafarer’s Rest had a lot of nice people and decent players. Mind you they were mostly a blob server.

IOJ was getting spawn camped every day when I was on it which was at the time it was having it’s exodus so anything I have to say about IOJ is pretty much irrelevant at this point.

YB was pretty nice when I was there which was before they got all the transfers. I only left because I hated Fort Aspenwood so much. YB had okay fighters but as many people say they tend to siege hump a lot. Just don’t be fooled by the exaggerations. They do use a lot of siege but it’s not as over the top as some of their haters will have you believe.

Ferguson’s Crossing had one of the best communities I’ve been a part of. Super nice people, very enjoyable to be around. Unfortunately it was also a heavily fair weather server. People only came out to fight when they felt like it which meant they were going to be perpetually stuck in a low tier.

Kaineng was fun for roaming. A lot of independent players on that server. Even when tags were up people would prefer to roam. The community was okay but a certain guild that I shall not name had a lot of toxic players.

Crystal Desert was horrible. The worst server I’ve been on hands down. I cannot say anything good about it at all. Bad players, terrible community, mostly immature teenagers. Don’t go there.

And DH which I’m on now is my new home, hopefully forever. I’ve never been more happy with a transfer and I don’t ever plan on leaving unless something serious happens. DH has an amazing community, fun, loving people with lots of great humor. Chat is always a blast to read and participate in. Great fighters, even PUGs can wipe full guilds with even numbers. Lots of dedicated roamers and dedicated guilds, great commander’s… It just has everything one could want. I’d almost say it’s a shame we’re not in a higher tier but at the same time I think we’re right where we belong. Where there are still challenges to be had and not tons of bandwagons. Still, if you want a great place to go, come to Darkhaven. I haven’t been on every server but I’ve been on enough of them to know that DH is by a long shot the best place to be.

Make a list of top WvW individual players

in WvW

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I mean your “individual” WvW rank, and not just server ranking. Like AP, PvP indiv rank, etc.

I’d be okay with this.

Although WvW rank is essentially meaningless I don’t see the harm in having a list to show where you stand.

Players who have accumulated the most Achievement Points have a list and, although a little more effort is required in some cases, it’s roughly similar to WvW rank. All most of it requires is play time. Heck, I’m at nearly 19k AP now and I’ve gained all of that casually. There has only been a handfull of times I’ve gone out of my way for something.

It’s not hard to figure out who the farmers are and who the veterans are so I don’t understand the controversy. Most of us are aware that WvW rank means very little and most of us are aware that high AP means very little.

If you want an unofficial list you can check out GW2Efficiency. Once you add your account and API, go to Account → Statistics → and select what you’d like to view in the drop down menu. In this case, WvW rank. From there, it will display your placement against those who have signed up on GW2Efficiency.

And the nerf to Rise? Really? What made them think that was required.

Why do people keep complaining about their 50% damage reduction skills being “over nerfed”? Can no one read?

All professions that had a skill that reduced damage by 50% got adjusted to 33%. This isn’t something specific to Necromancer. Rangers were crying about Guard being adjusted too. I would understand if it were only a few professions but it was all of them that had a skill with this kind of effect.

I’m really disgusted with these forums today. I know people always complain no matter what happens but this was a good patch and people are treating it like it’s going to be what makes them quit the game. For me, it’s probably going to be what makes me quit coming to the profession forums. Sick of seeing people who don’t know how to be grateful.

Are the humans too weak ?

in Human

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

The humans are not enslaved not because they are strong or have any strength. Its because the Charr cannot unite as one race and second because they are distracted by both the Flame Legion and the ghosts of human Ascalon. Thus the statement that humans are strong enough is actually false and a complete lie.

Of course Tyrian humanity is weak. Elona and Cantha are different continents to Tyria so must be considered separate. As in both cannot be associated in the terms of reference of this discussion. Also in case if any have missed this detail: both Krytan and Ebonhawke farmland are plagued by bandits and or beasts and renegade factions. This means that human supply lines are weak and unreliable.

Thus none can claim that humanity can hold their own in Tyria. They simply cannot. And this is truth undeniable.

“If they were weak they’d be extinct or enslaved. Humans are still plentiful and growing, that should be enough indication that we are not weak.” Same thing I said in the first place still applies to your response. Humans would be extinct if they didn’t have the strength to endure. The end.

Best Profession for Roaming in Tier 1 WvW

Bwahaha, so being an unkillable bunker is more skilled? I’m sorry but if you can facetank that much damage and everything you do heals you then… How is that more skilled than not being able to tank a single hit and having to be extremely careful about when you dodge?

I don’t play a Thief for the record, since you’re speaking as though I do.

The point I was trying to make is that roaming is a vicious hobby. You’re going to be getting outnumbered and hardcountered constantly. If you don’t want to be dying every 5 seconds, you should choose something that has good control over a fight. Meaning the ability to decide when a fight starts and when it ends. Necromancers for example are bad roamers because they can only decide when a fight starts but never when it ends unless they’re extremely creative.

Being able to faceroll your keyboard because you’re stupid tanky and still doing decent – high damage is so incredibly un skillful I find it hilarious that you’re claiming people should play a “real class.” Although I do absolutely agree that stealth is a crutch, it still keeps those people from getting steamrolled by zergs or gank squads so I can’t say I blame them for using it.

Condi damage mitigation stat needed

Direct damage can be mitigated by armor.
Condition damage bypass armor but can be cleansed.

Seems pretty balanced to me.

It is but people don’t want balance. They want to be able to pretend conditions don’t exist because it hurts their special fuzzy feelys when they get punished for not putting condition removal and management in to their builds.

All my characters are built for personal sustain because I do a lot of roaming. I never make a build without condition removal or some form of condition mitigation. You know how often I have trouble with condition builds? Very rarely unless I’m caught off guard or the player is flat out better than me. Every class has the option to invest in condition clears or mitigation and everyone can use runes and/or foods that reduce their duration. But how many people do that do you think.
