Can’t we assume that the “losing” Fractal will still end up in the game, just delayed by a few months since the dev teams will be focusing on the “winner” instead?
No, we cant. No dev has stated or indicated that this will be the case.
We can’t assume. We can, however, hope that they won’t tease us with two and only ever deliver one.
I don’t think “too dumb” was the wording. Haha sheesh, harsh critique
There are no such thing as ‘harsh criticism’.
Reminder= threre are 2 types of criticsism.
1. Honest Criticism
2. False CriticismHis/her criticism is Honest.
Actually, as far as I’ve observed, there is only one type of criticism that matters. Constructive criticism.
Everything else, such as this post that is being called out, is destructive and contributes in to way to the health of the game. In fact it just poisons the community.
So let’s abandon the destructive criticism, bile, and other unfortunate posts that plague these forums so they can see people who wish to help instead of people who only wish to sling mud. Thanks.
Weird that you got kicked when rest of the team wasn’t willing to go the extra mile so that u don’t have to…
That kind of attitude, that sub-80s are useless, is what is being decried here. Sub-80 charas are not useless. They can pull their own weight.
The only way to show your support for RNG boxes is to buy RNG boxes (or say so directly through feedback to ArenaNet). Voting for either side in this election says nothing about RNG. If ArenaNet wanted to know if players liked RNG, they’d look at the sales figures of the RNG boxes.
Even if Evon won, the sales of Black Lion Keys after the discount would be the only thing to support RNG, not the election result itself.
ArenaNet is a business. When making business decisions they would use hard data (which they have) over inconclusive anecdotal nonsense.
It’s more about voting against Evon to protest RNG and letting it be very obvious that that is why we are voting against him. It’s more ‘making a point’ than anything else.
I wouldn’t do a dungeon with a sub level 80. I tried dungeons prior to 80 and realised the difficulty with them and decided to come back with a char at 80 and do them, which I have done. I don’t want to play with someone who is going to waste my time by slowing down the dungeon run. There are enough bad level 80s to do that. I don’t see why thats a big deal. Statistically speaking, playing with one or more sub level 80s is going to make the dungeon more difficult and take longer. I can measure that. I can’t measure a persons skill until they have either wasted my time or done what I expected them to do.
It is true that you cannot measure skill until you see them. You also cannot measure gear (I am STRONGLY against an inspect feature, BTW). Judging entirely by level is shortsighted as level tells nothing about how well a player will perform.
Give people a chance once. If it doesn’t work out, don’t party with them again. That way, you get what you want and you don’t come off as total kitten.
Most players you meet for dungeons already have an 80 and/or have several alts of varying lvl. Sometimes in a blue moon you get a complete noob to the game which can be tricky in the low lvl dungeons like AC and CM… By the time anyone hits lvl 50-55 they should know the ins and outs of their class, maybe not all the tricks but they should know how to best maximize what they bring to the table.
I was a complete noob with my ele, and to this game, and still did better in fractals than quite a few lvl 80s. Assume peoples skill after you see them play, and hell maybe they will be better off after seeing you play. Experience adds up, whilst hearing elitist bullcrap just pisses people of and makes “you” sound like a moron to more savvy people.
Experience and skill is what matters. I have frequently run dungeons with sub-80 alts to level them, contributing greatly to the group and sometimes even teaching the dungeon to the 80s.
Again, level is not indicative of skill. Please give people a chance instead of dismissing them out of hand. We want a better community than that.
Kill SLick, the hell you killing sparki first for? he does almost no damage and you dont have to deal with ooze kiting
(slick is the oil dude, spark is the robot)
Slick is tankier and takes longer to take down. Also Sparki loves to pull you from meleeing slick, making it take longer, as well as attacking with some pretty heavy damage ranged attacks. If you melee Sparki down first, Slicks ranged attacks can be practically ignored.
Then there is both of their ‘enrage’ effects. Slick’s is to put down more oil fields. If your ooze kiter is decent, then that’s not a problem. Sparki’s is to damage you if you don’t move, which limits some classes abilities to melee and forces some into ranged or lower damage weapons.
Now if your group has excessively high DPS, then it doesn’t matter. But if they don’t Sparki is the safer and more reliable one to take down first.
It may be longer, but it’s very small compared to the Ele’s water field. Most would argue theirs has always been better. Especially since it’s Ranged and not reliant on you being in the melee to use it effecitvely.
Ele’s water fields on staff are 6 seconds on a 45 second cooldown and 2 seconds on a 20 second cooldown. A skilled ranger will have more uptime on water fields if they do it right than will a staff ele.
Ranger well really is quite overstated imo.
I guess some people really can’t get past the fact that ranger is actually starting to be decently powered. *shrugs* Your loss, I guess.
I see what you’re doing but I don’t think these are “if’s” :p cat’s out of the bag, man lol
I keep phrasing it that way to try to avoid getting moderated. But yes, I believe that the unconfirmed patch notes are almost definitively accurate.
It’s not a “euphemism for nerf” because the word nerf itself has been twisted from it’s original meaning.
Do you know what nerf meant as terms of changes in RPG rule sets of old? It was a term used to emphasis a change to an ability so severe that it’s effectiveness was like that of throwing a nerf dart at the enemy.
That may have been the genesis of the term, yes, but that isn’t the usage of the term now. The current usage is when anything is weakened purposefully, it is nerfed. Just as buffing is strengthening it.
If you want a good Guild Wars term for nerfing into oblivion … try Smiter’s Booning or Booning.
I think the gold reward should be account bound, so that you get the normal reward once per account per day… but the tokens rewards should be character bound, so that you can get 66 piece for each character you play the dungeon with.
This way you can gear your alts more easy, but it won’t be completely unfair to people with just 1 character. I think this would be doable with 2 chests; one with the tokens and one with the gold. Just make the gold-one account bound and the token-one character bound.
What if dungeons don’t have the skins or stats you’re looking for? What if you’re running the dungeons for money to afford to buy the skins/stats. Then you’re still held back and must take many days to do what you should be able to do in far fewer.
Ok. There is being a good competitor and just being a kitten. This, sir, is the second.
To everyone else, just enjoy your race and play how you wish.
Thank you sir,
I believe that a title where you are required to get 1st is something that should be earned, yet some people feel entitled to it and when they then proceed with expecting other competitors to give up the race, simply for them to obtain a title that they clearly weren’t capable of obtaining on their own, I just get tired.Rather than learning some of the shortcuts, they’d rather have the other players adapt.
So if that does make me a kitten then I truly am perfectly fine with that.
It’s ’ma’am’, actually.
And I don’t believe there is anything wrong with asking others to help. If you don’t want to help them don’t. It’s only a problem when they start demanding that you throw the race. That is when it gets into entitlement. Simply asking is not. Asking is being polite.
Also, please do remember that some players have terribad ping, so they are practically incapable of placing really well outside of pure luck with the Light Travel powerup. That is the only way my Aussie guildie was able to win first.
But again, asking is not necessarily someone acting entitled. Demanding, on the other hand, is a clear sign of it. Now if you always try to prevent them from winning when they start demanding, I can’t fault you. It’s only bad if you try to actively prevent any who politely ask.
Just my two cents.
I like to think that that statement was said independently by one of the WvW guys and not the Living Story team.
But if they do it a third time then I’ll be forced to agree that the don’t know what they’re doing.
They know perfectly well what they are doing. They have that map, completely unique in itself since it’s a pure PvP roaming map at the core, they need to put rewards inside to attract people and make use of it but not something too rewarding so that you don’t really need it.
So they put something desirable but optional in it, say, and achievement. And it works, there’s life in the map at last and it’s some fun PvP and it’s still optional.
And there’s still some QQ but they know it’d happen. See, their desires are at odds with the OCD PvP haters in there. No matter what desirable thing they put inside, some OCD PvP hater will want it and will QQ. The only solution for that QQ problem is to not put anything of value inside at all, ie abandoning the map and the concept. They might as well close the place in fact.
Here’s the problem. The people that are drawn in there with the rewards they are offering are, for the most part, the kind of player that does not care for PvP.
That causes a bunch of people to join in the map for the achievement. Unfortunately, they don’t have the WvW/PvP experience or builds. So most of them are just fodder for the experienced WvWers. Most good WvW players realize this and let them past. The other ones take advantage of the situation for ‘free kills’ and basically make those players lose any future interest in touching WvW again.
If the intent is to get more people interested, it has failed. If the intent is to provide ‘free badges’ to WvW players, then I’ve lost all respect for a company which I have championed since GW1 was in beta.
And don’t confuse the completionists with ‘PvP haters’. Some are both, yes. Some just don’t care for PvP. That isn’t hate. It’s just aversion.
Also, not all complaining is QQing. And to state that it is is just plain insulting.
I see many wanting the removal of the pet. The ranger has, since reveal, been centered around the pet. That is a cornerstone of the ranger.
Is it that you want the pet removed or that you want the issues with the pet to be fixed so it doesn’t feel like a weight when it’s not behaving properly?
There’s a Hairchanger contract item, just FYI.
Having to pay real money each time you want to switch between hairstyles, even if you’ve used those hairstyles before, is what we wish we didn’t need to do. It seems a bit … high.
I’m not afraid that there will not be a new farming method. I am curious as to what it will be and if it will still have acceptably fast gains. Because to me flipping on the TP is not only not an option, but also morally abhorrent. And I needs the monies for my legendary hunt.
Sword/Dagger, Longbow, and occasionally the GS are the weapons du jour for rangers in late-game PVE. Full or near-full berserker/assassin gear is also best to maximize your damage output, as is running all the good group utility you can such as spirits, Spotter, and Healing Spring.
We also can do good conditions, but conditions are much more limited in the PvE meta and neither as reliable nor as effective against what we face.
the high price for access is a modified truth by far, you can spend a silver and access the same content.
100g is perfectly fair.
Look at my previous post here to see why I think a cost to play at all is shortsighted. And regardless, 100g is just too high.
By traiting that far into Wilderness Survival we are blocked from taking more of the good offensive traits. Many, if not most, of the current powerful ranger builds don’t have the free trait points to boost Wilderness Survival up to 30.
Yes, it is a great option if we can spare the points, but most rangers would be harming themselves far more than helping by traiting out of the traits that make their build.
But it is the same argument that a lot of the other classes have. Everybody seems to think that they should be able to build full offensive and get all of the defensive utilities they need to go along with it, when that just isn’t the case across most classes. Most classes have to give up defense, particularly condition removal, in order to get more offense.
Now, the classes that this is the least true for are Warriors and Thieves, with Cleansing Ire and (cba about the name) the trait that removes conditions in stealth. They lose some damage potential, but not such a huge amount that it is detrimental to their damage output.
Whether or not ANet likes how it works on these classes and is willing to spread the love remains to be seen. All we know is that they want the Guardian to be even better at removing conditions outside of shouts at this point. At least, for certain at this point.
That much is true. We do need to give up offense for good defense. That is always the case with all classes, but affects some of us (rangers) more than the more … ‘favored’ classes (guardian).
Now I think the complaint here is less that we don’t have any condition clears and more that we don’t have better active condition clears. Passive clears are nice, yes, but without more strict control you can find yourself with a bad condition and be waiting for the passive effect to get around to occurring. And we are not unique in having few active condi clears.
People complain, when fighting against us, that we are too passive. This may be true. The problem is that we don’t have many active options. I’m sure a majority of rangers would prefer more active options than the passive ones we tend to use and abuse now.
you didnt understand the point… i will just say that you just cant do it faster with a lvl 60 than a lvl 80 exotics.. its just a matter of numbers.. we are not talking about players lack of skills or great skills..
im in favor of builds and class diversity… 100% but the fact is that
Downleveling takes into account the fact that lower levels do not have exotics. The only real difference is traiting, which cannot be taken into account with pure stat drops. Yes, an 80 should clear the dungeon faster. But outside of certain groupings (4 war, 1 mes anyone), the time difference will not be that significant.
Umm…pets aren’t a valid option in W3. They never have been. Even less so with zergs. In regular PvE it wouldn’t matter, it’s easy.
Actually pets are a valid option in WvW. Not so much in the zergs, but they can be very good roamers.
All you are still saying is that the way they intended it to be is more important than having it be more effective and reliable. That’s not only wrong, but also offensive.
A revamped pet AI, no matter how good, can not replace a human behind the controls. At all. If you can’t see that, we can’t have a reasonable discussion.
You’re saying that a pet can never be effective or reliable, which is untrue. It can be.
And sticking to design principles is important. Changing the game to all players whims would only turn the game into yet another standard MMO clone. They’re trying something different here.
You’re right that an AI will not match a player in skill. But. The ranger is a pet class. Pet classes have … pets. Which use an AI. You just don’t want a pet.
Again, the class was advertised from the start as a pet class. Instead of working with the pet and learning how to adapt, you just want it removed. And I’m the unreasonable one?
Because if they ever need to try to beat us and adapt then we must be OP. It’s never their fault. Didn’t you get that memo?
He’s talking about seemingly the hardest dungeon (Arah) so obviously it shouldn’t be targetted at the average player, for them you have 5-6 other easier dungeons which are said to be easy for majority of players which means he’s below average if he complains about those easier dungeons.
Dungeons are supposed to be challenging to the average player, so if someone is having trouble it does not necessarily mean they are below average.
Dungeons were advertised as a content for hardcore players, they should increase their difficulty level, not normalize it to average player.
Increasing the difficulty of existing dungeons will just drive more people away from dungeons, not invite more in. Yes, a small subset of ‘hardcore’ players might like it (hardcore players tend to complain regardless), but they would lose a lot more than they would gain.
Considering the uproar of hutt burt this change would bring, it is preferable to implement a hard mode for full exotic/ascended DM teams.
I would fully support a ‘Hard Mode’ for those that want a challenge. That way those that want a challenge get their challenge (maybe) and those that just want to enjoy the game still can.

not sure how paying a few laurel or karma or something for the skins that you unlock is being elitist. If you have played long enough to unlock the acheivment points required for these things surely you can handle paying 10-20-30 laurel or 42.5k karma. Do realize that some of these skins are probably unlocked at 5k + achieve points. Im betting some are 10k + to give exreme people some goal. If you have put that much time in game the currencies are peanuts.
The reality is that many people are over 5k achieve points and anet isn’t just going to give free skins. They will want to you put some effort into acquiring them when Tuesday comes. Hopefully you saved some karma, laurels, gold and ecto.
Oh and to address your fears about having to buy the same skin every 5 lvls to 80. Go look in your bank and tell me how many transmutation stones you have….I got 76. YES they will work with these new skins on nooby gear just the same as they work if you have hom gear and want to save the rune when upgrading you can save the hom skin to save you a trip to the HoM.
Requiring laurels would be a kick in the kitten for all of us altaholics. We’re already heavily time-gated for stats. Why time-gate us further for appearances? Ecto is already overused as currency. 50 ecto for an item on top of 40 laurels? Might as well say ’don’t even bother’. And there are already enough other gold sinks for players in the form of legendaries and the ‘pseudo-legendary’ exotics such as the Foefire weapons, and Infinite Light.
Now karma I could get behind. Requires us to play the chara and gives us something to actually spend our karma on. Because right now there isn’t much that’s worth it. Karma armors only give 3 stat sets.
And lastly, if the currencies are peanuts for people at 10k+, why unfairly punish those that are not there with currencies that are a significant investment?
Ranger pets shouldn’t attack it unless the ranger unleashes their pet, which they should not do. Mesmer illusions shouldn’t attack it unless the mesmer tells them to as they attack the target the mesmer was targeting when they are summoned and disappear when that target dies. Necro minions might, but who runs necro minions?
You can ask team to portal you to the switch or just use invulnerable skill to run to the switch.
When you say “switch” do you mean the control panel at the end of the room (by the exit door)? Does that area stay un-electrified the whole time?
I think he means one of the platforms. And no, the area by the control panel gets electrified during most stages.
Big-time business owners do not make good politicians. Especially not unscrupulous, dishonest, Machiavellian industrialists.
And what is more unscrupulous and dishonest than selling RNG boxes?
Like I keep saying. It’s not the zergs that are the problem. It’s the griefing campers. that just sit there and hold known chokepoints for hours.
Well if you’ve got a problem with that, make a post on that subject instead of missing the point completely. I do agree that some spots in the JP are far too easy to block when you get there first and they could use a tweak.
I didn’t need to make a separate thread as it was already being discussed in this one. And I don’t think I’ve missed the point, that point being that many of us feel that the kite should not be in Obsidian Sanctum.
The only real killer chokepoint is the dark room and colosseum areas. You have to drop stealth there unless you have the dark room 100% memorized. And you can’t recloak before entering the colosseum, which can be pretty easily held by only a few for a long time. Until a very large group comes and kills them with quite a vengeance.
I watched a griefing group on my own server (TC) get killed by an angry Emhry Bay zerg. I stood back and watched them die as I felt they deserved it for their actions. Of course EB couldn’t tell I wasn’t in on the kittenery so they took me down too. I didn’t mind. After all, how could EB tell?
There is not. And with how much movement is needed in combat, mouse movement would get you killed very quickly.
Or they are happy to take the chance as they are with lottery. I mean, you clearly don’t have a problem with RNG because there are people who argue nothing should be behind RNG. Including permanent bank access. What it really comes down to is that you want skins but don’t want to play the lottery for it. That’s fine but please don’t assume you and your friends are statistically significant enough to justify Anet selling these skins directly. Because you are not and I am sure by now they have enough data on RNG and direct skin sales to know what works and what doesn’t.
I hold firmly that some things should not be real money RNG gated. Temporary skins are one such item.
And I do believe that the current attitude against RNG boxes that is across many, many threads by many, many people is statistically significant. I have noted that they seem to be moving away from skins being RNG gated. Both current Aetherblade armor (gem store direct purchase) and upcoming Aetherblade weapons (in-game random drop). I hope that streak lasts.
A companies problems never have to do with their customers. That is, customers can’t logically be the source of a companies problems, not if you understand the nature of the relationship within the context of doing business.
Any attempt to move the locus of responsibility for problems from company to customer is an attempt at deflection and defense of the company—obviously. In removing the responsibility for issues from the company you also remove the possibility for correcting problems. You are illogically giving customers the power to destroy a company willy-nilly. That, of course, is absurd.
If you want to see the situation improve you need to first understand who has the power to make relevant changes—it is not the customers of a company.
Perfect analysis, Raine.
But yeah. You can’t blame the customer for issues with the game. You can blame customers for issues with the community, but that’s about it.
You clearly do not own a business. I would wager customers and clients are in the top 5 sources of most business’s problems.
You also do not understand when a company like Anet gives costumers the ability to vocalize what they want from a game and then change the game based on customer feedback, yes the customer DOES have the power to make relevant changes – for good or for bad.
We have the power to talk. To try to contribute. But all our contributions come down to is words. Implementation or otherwise is the purview of the company. Therefore it’s the company’s responsibility, not the customers.
Lots of us are in that boat. An extension and a fix are almost essential as a mea culpa here.
