Better than the third coming of Kormir. Kiel is working hard to replace Trahearne as our token credit stealing NPC ally.

Seriously?

Why can’t people understand that as players, we do not want what they’re getting!. If we were the ones that attained godhood, the game would be over. Nothing more to do. If we were the ones that led the Pact, the chara would be so busy leading we’d get to do nothing. If we were the ones that were being pushed for Captain’s Council, we’d be embroiled in internal politics and stuff and not get to have fun.

We don’t want that stuff. We want to play the game. Those charas are made to take those roles as, as a player, those rewards are not rewards at all.

Petition for Pet Removal *Option*

in Ranger

Posted by: SynfulChaot.3169

SynfulChaot.3169

When i first heard of the whole pet swapping thing i was like “Oh that’s pretty cool” because they sold it as a sort of “you can swap pets but it’s better to stick with just one!” sort of thing, and now we have this….

Why is it all the really awesome things about pets were changed? Like picking their skill set (including what skill was the F2) from a pool of skills, the whole evolution system… the original training system… the original beast mastery traits…

I think another problem with pets, and it’s one I’ve noticed since launch, is that the beastmastery line and concept is fundamentally flawed.

Most of the trait line rewards running the same pets. Masters Bond makes our pets stronger the longer they stay out. All master beastmastery traits only affect specific pets. Yet the other traits reward pet swapping. The game mechanics reward both pet swapping and pet variety. It feels like they can’t decide if we’re supposed to always keep the same pet out or if we’re supposed to be constantly swapping.

There is a lot from GW1 that was better in regards to the pet. The pet ‘shouts’ were far superior. Current pet ‘shouts’ are a joke, IMHO. The pet controls were better. Current ones only allow the slightest modicum of control that we must use every last inch of. The pets were more reliable. The current ones have a tendency to die too easily and not hit their target. The ‘evolution’ system was great in that it allowed some variety in stats. You could have tankier or more damaging versions of all pets if you wanted. The current pets have no options.

There are many things they could do to improve our pets. I just want to see some of those things attempted instead of the, even optional, abandoning of our core mechanic. Because I’m willing to bet that if pet abandonment becomes an option then pets will cease to be a thing outside of PvP and roaming WvW, and those who choose to still run them will get run out of any group.

The main reason is because the lvl 38 in group with 4 lvl 80 makes the dungeon harder for the 4. it will actually be easier to just go 4 lvl 80s rather than taking the lvl 38 thief since he would die quickly and easily anywhere in the dungeon. thus the 4 lvl 80s have to heal or rez the lvl 80 and force 3 people to do the fighting.

A good player at that level will not go down any faster than a level 80. A level 80 thief will fall to the same things that will kill a level 38 thief.

Apparently it does. If people care about the personal AP it’s their choice and their way of playing this game. Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean everyone else shouldn’t either.

I didn’t say they should not. But capping will slow everyone down. Most that would want that already have lots of points so their reason would be so they can stay ahead of others and slow them down. And that’s kinda not cool.

If you want to have a high score, good for you. If you want the high score by keeping others from catching up? That’s just being a total kitten.

About the new Skins and Account Items

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: SynfulChaot.3169

SynfulChaot.3169

I think it will be unlock like hom but the skins will come with a price tag whether its gold/laurels/or another currency.

How special is a reward when every lvl 2 has it by default?

Does it matter how special you think it is? If everyone wants to run it, they will. If they don’t, they don’t. Using, or not using, gear based on how many other people run it is pretty elitist.

But my point was, why should they do a currency? Since the rewards are account based, why shouldn’t any new character get the rewards? If you earned them you should be able to put them on any character (however old) and make them fancy.

And my point was so that they don’t become starter gear and thus lose all prestige. I’m not suggesting they cost 100 laurels or 100g a piece or anything. Just something so that you can still get noticed for wearing them and not just another clone.

Why shouldn’t they be ‘starter gear’. If they’re skins, they’re skins and should have no level associated with them. One benefit of the ‘free’ nature of the HoM is you can freely transmute it onto your gear as you level instead of constantly being in ugly looking drops until you get to a level where it is worth buying your gear. If that were implemented for the achievements, then I’d have more options when I’m levelling alts. Adding a cost would just be an additional unnecessary money sink. I mean, it’s not like we don’t have enough of those, right? Right?

And if you’re worried of prestige, your worried of the wrong thing. Those that worry of prestige are those that want to act superior over others. And that’s just plain not nice. Be nice. Let others have their toys as well and don’t be mad at them for it. This is GW2, not WoW. We’re better than that.

Oh. And the 15% cut to your sales. And the inability to pull sales and get any of your deposit back. And the inability to sell directly to others in a secured fashion.

Need I go on?

Yes, the TP is better than having nowhere to officially trade. But the fact that we are all funneled there and have no alternatives (direct trading, for example) bothers many. As does the gem-gold ratio, which is only climbing higher and higher. Further and further away from standard players ability to actually use it.

Yes, the TP is nice. No, the economy is not.

Evon is the in-game embodiment of the economy. A vote for him is a vote that we have faith in the economy. Many of us have lost that faith. A long time ago.

If you ask me, however, I’ll tell you that I dislike that ascended gear got added, and really dislike the way it was implemented with a long grind to achieve it. I’ll tell you that my normal play style means I have no hope of achieving it without specifically farming for it, and that my current farming is the first time in any game that I’ve ever actually farmed. I’ll also point out that, for the first time since I got excited about GW2 two years before launch, there’s a distinct possibility I’ll move to another game, especially if ascended armor follows the pattern of ascended weapons. Though the “you don’t need ascended, so just ignore it” crowd won’t understand, I just want to have BiS gear and enjoy the game without needing to work toward another loot carrot.

One thing to note on the ascended gear is that it doesn’t seem to bad to outfit a single character. If you run more than one character/class, though, it goes from barely bearable to impossible to even consider. Because the ‘refining’ of the materials is time-gated, it means that it doesn’t just take x hours to outfit your multiple charas. It now takes x days to do so.

I was initially interested in ascendeds. Now I just dislike them on principle. To unobtainable.

How low has your server gotten Tequatl?

I have to admit I’m disappointed in you BG. You used TS to coordinate the teq fight. All the other servers are pugging it like how it was ment to be played. BG may have been the first to beat him, but having the coordination over TS is an unfair advantage over other servers who can’t get so many people in a voice chat. Beat the event with pugs like how all the other servers are playing it and how it was designed to be played and then I’d consider it the actual world first.

Can’t tell if serious.

I understand the sentiment. If the content cannot be beat by a team without voice comms and without requiring consumable buffs, then I think it’s too difficult for an open-world encounter IMHO.

If you can’t get the kite, you can’t get it. Simple as that. This isn’t a freebie. You gotta work for it.

I suspect Randroids and people with the same kind of mentality actually have a lower propensity to thrive in a healthy society.

Altruism does seem to be in short supply these days. It’s all selfishness, greed, and ‘me me me’. And no, I’m not talking about players wanting the achievement. I’m talking about the ones that are purposefully trying to deny others from theirs. And don’t tell me that’s not happening. It is.

I agree with his statement. People today are too entitled. A lot of them remind me of spoiled children. Today’s motto seems to be: If at first you don’t succeed, whine about it until someone makes it easier for you.

Some are like that. I’ve honestly not gotten that vibe from anyone here, though. Not sure where you’re getting that.

Let’s, instead of asking or petitioning for pet removal, request pet improvement.

As far as your petition, though. You shame the community by asking for a class to change it’s primary mechanic and make us all look bad. -1

High price for permanent vendor access anywhere? Yeah. Makes sense. That can really trivialize inventory management. High price for permanent hair style kit? Yeah. Makes sense. For that reason I will bow out of this conversation as it is no longer worth my time. Brick walls make for terrible conversationalists, after all.

To everyone else,

I, like you, hope that PvE stays similar in difficulty, and that ANet does not bow to the whims of the elitists. … All-in-all, who says that my playstyle should dictate what others do? I can’t tell people not to speed-run, that’s not my place. I’m just pointing out that what dungeons have become is way off-target from your intentions, Anet. It’s resulting in this phenomenon: new players " can’t " do dungeons until they’re lv 80, which doesn’t necessarily mean that they properly learned their kitten about how to play their class. I learned a lot about how to really play from the challenges presented in the dungeons when I was near the recommended level. Players are missing out on the opportunity of doing dungeons when technically they’re “supposed to be able to.”

Players should not be feeling this pressure from the vocal elitist minority. All players should feel welcome to play the content as they reach the suggested level for the dungeon. Players should not feel obligated to be level 80 before doing content designed for lower levels.

The same tired arguments. The difference is not that great, people. Unless you are explicitly looking for a speedrun, there is no reason to exclude based on level or class.

Wrong, there’s a huge difference in traits not to mention skill points.(lvl 30ish has no access to tier 2 or 3 traits)

Everyone is looking for a speed run since dungeons are a token treadmill.

Who in their right mind would want to take longer than it’s neccessary to beat an instance when they’ve already beaten the same instance 100 times already?

You yourself admit that you need lvl 80s in a speed run, which is an indirect admission that there is a significant difference between lvl 80s and those that are lower.

A level 30 has access to all skills. They may not have access to all traits, but you can be effective enough to not hold your party back. And not everyone is looking for a speed run. Many are just looking to complete it and don’t mind full clears. I, personally, prefer full clears as you can get some good loot in many dungeons.

I have completed most dungeons too many times to count. I still prefer playing with players who will talk and be nice over people who think they are better than a majority of the game population.

Umm … there actually are better rewards for coming in first. A couple more silver, 300 more karma, and a handful more quartz crystal.

Not enough to get me to stop helping others, but the rewards are there.

Yeah. More of a tongue-in-cheek statement of us RPers proving that we’re not as … unskilled as many love to assume.

Where should Ranger be heading?

SynfulChaot.3169

If you remember ranger shouts in GW1, they were godly pet buffs. My GW1 beastmaster build made my pet more tanky than a full on tank. It was nearly impossible to kill them.

Unfortunately most of the GW2 shouts just add what should be default pet functionality. The ability to tell it to move somewhere (“Guard”). The ability to protect you (“Protect Me”). Those should not be seperate skills that we need to carry with us. Our pets should be able to do this by default.

I think that “Sic ’Em” and “Search and Rescue” are the only shouts that should be kept. “Sic ’Em” is the closest to how shouts were in GW1, bringing function and boosting the pet at the same time. The cooldown is a bit too long, though. “Search and Rescue” is another useful one, but the pet should gain more protection as it is rezzing. Because the pet isn’t protected at all, that makes the ranger’s dedicated res skill one of, if not the, weakest rez skill in the game.

You’re not an official source. What the hell do you know about it?
Martin’s post seems pretty clear on this …. double click it, pick another Stat…

Another crafting stat. Crafting stats are things like Rampager’s, Berserker’s, etc.

It says both ‘any other crafting stat’ and ‘will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item’. So the question is what is the list for each type of item?

Maybe ‘any other crafting stat’ is only for crafted. If that is the case, what about karma items? And special dungeon craftables? And mob drops? Too much unknown. We need to know this information.

100 gold to play a mini game

I would also like to point out that you do not have to pay 100g to play the mini game so the title of the OP is a little much. It is 5 silver to play the game.

True. I can play for the low price of 5s. Only 5s to play a single small mini-game once that does not benefit me in any way. Now why would I do that? All the other mini-games are free. If I want to play a mini-game, I’m not going to pay for the privilege if I’m not going to gain any benefit from it.

Got the cutting board out? Great, because, now that we come to discuss rewards, there’s more hair to dice.
Evon Gnashblade: “If I am elected to the Captain’s Council, I’ll show my gratitude for your support in the following ways:” Thank-you gift anyone?
“Ellen” Kiel: “If I’m fortunate enough to earn a position on the Captain’s Council, here’s what you can expect from Ellen Kiel:” Bribe anyone?

Let’s face the truth. They are both bribes, just as all campaign promises are.

You’re right. He has the experience of taking all our hard earned gems for low chances at the items we really want.

Yeah … I’ll vote for Kiel. She hasn’t tried to rip me off yet.

Obsidian Sanctum again?

PVT armor is also karma obtainable. You can earn plenty of karma in WvW.

But you would have to run to Orr to get the actual armor, which means going to PvE.
Badges is a way to earn armor, but if you already have crappy armor, it would take forever to kill enough people to obtain enough badges to buy it. So why would we waste a week attempting to kill people who have the highest stats while we are rocking blues and greens.

You need to remember that us PvE players didn’t start out with great armor either. We also needed to work our way up to the exotics.

Yes, I know that the WvW system with badges isn’t quite on par with PvE. It is better than it used to be, but it’s still not great. But please don’t get mad at us or try to derail a conversation about whether or not a single piece of Living Story content should be in Obsidian Sanctum when all the rest are in PvE.

Your argument about armor and obtaining it is perfectly valid. This, however, is not the place for that discussion.

And now I go to bed. I have a feeling this thread will have exploded with trolls again by the time I wake up. *sigh*

Just joined a group advertised on g2lfg as “experienced only”. People died instantly before the beam even came out. I just dropped as soon as I was pulled into the beam. With not enough people alive there is too much pressure on the few remaining players and as soon as the achievement is failed there is no reason to hang around. So much for promoting camaraderie. Putting a timer on this event means I will end up being as selfish as possible to make it in time. If this was your guys intent to kill the community you are succeeding.

The community isn’t telling you to drop party. By doing so you are killing the community, not the others.

A few nights ago I ran AR with a PUG group. I put ‘please be experienced’ in the title of the LFG request. Got 5. A few people had trouble with the first pull and one person dropped right there, one who was quite vocal of being experienced. Got a replacement. Continued in to the first boss. Another few problems and two more of the vocal ‘experienced’ people left. Again, we replaced them. From that point on we had no further trouble at all now that all the ‘experienced’ people left.

I personally note that most that are really vocal about being ‘experienced’ are not and are looking for a carry. It shows in how they play and how they act in the community. They don’t own up to their own mistakes and look to blame others. And leave the instant things are looking down for them. I punish said players that leave early by putting them on my block list. I don’t want to play with players that I can’t trust to stay. I don’t know why anyone else would, either.

If you play the game on a computer that can barely run it from an Internet connection that has high latency then that’s your fault. I don’t mean to sound harsh but that’s the sad truth. That is not an excuse to dumb down content.

Agreed..I mean everyone’s acting like it’s Anet’s fault that their game is lagging or getting buggy, but if it was a fault in the game itself it would be happening for everyone. And it’s not. And I’ve seen people post that they run on like 100 fps and still have these issues, while I’m running 30 fps and it’s perfectly fine. So whatever is causing the lag and bugs, whether it’s your connection, or something else, is on YOUR end. And unfortunately, there may be NOTHING Anet can do about that. Except as Ayrilana says, to “dumb down” future content. If everything has to be designed for people with the worst latency, all the future content is going to be a lot less interesting and fun than it could be.

Unfortunately, Genavelle, it is ANet’s fault that they didn’t design Lightning Pull to properly account for latency. That skill, and the areas that require it, is the biggest obstacle for Oceanic players and others with high latency.

And please don’t tell me it’s all because of the users. The game did officially launch in regions like Australia where high-latency affects everyone as there are no Oceanic servers. It is ANet’s duty to deliver content that is playable by all regions that the game officially launched in.

They don’t need to dumb down the content. They just need to be aware when designing the skills to handle higher latency. If Lightning Pull didn’t rubberband higher-latency players so badly, we’d not see this conversation occur as it has.

It is true that there are no game penalties for acting exclusionary. And it is true that there are not extra incentives.

That being said if you wish to run 80-only runs, specify that in your LFG. Everyone else should not need to post ‘sub-80 ok’ to get a group. The norm should be acceptance, not exclusion.

The norm is whatever the majority of the community decides it is. That is directly influenced by the rules and restrictions in the game.

You don’t get to decide what the norm is unilaterally.

You are not the majority, nor am I. I am simply stating what it should be to make for a good and friendly community.
