Maybe they had already made the content by the time they started hearing the feedback? I really hope that’s it, because I don’t want to believe them so deaf to the pleas of everyone that thinks it’s just plain wrong.

Unfortunately, that would be very typical of Anet. Sometimes they just get stubborn and refuse to admit that one of their ideas might have not been that well thought out – even when faced with a major player discontent(*). It’s entirely possible that this case is exactly what it seems – Anet hearing people criticizing their choices, and deciding to enforce more of those on people just to make their point and showing they disagree.

(* ) Of course, sometimes as a developer you just need to make unpopular but necessary choices – i am specificaly not talking about such situations.

Well the entire sentiment I’ve heard is WvWers either dislike us there or want us there because they consider us PvEers ‘free badges’. Both are bad. And the sentiment I’ve heard from PvEers as that it makes us want to not ever touch WvW again. So if they’re trying to get us to try new things, they are failing. And badly.

Right, I’d wager the options available will be based on the source of the item somehow.

Hopefully the blog post goes up soon because there’s a lot to clear up.

I hope so. This is a pretty big shift-up with the gear. And as it’s all going to become account-bound, we need more details so we’re not kittened by the change.

So, for a straight forward example,

I have a full set of gear that has no MF as an original stat (I have power, toughness and vitality on the gear)….

I DO however, have 6 runes of the traveler on them.

So are you saying that runes/upgrade components with MF on them are just changing to something else completely? no choice on that what so ever?

So essentially the rune of the traveler will no longer have a total of 50% MF, but will have at total of (just for example purposes..) 50% condition damage duration?

Because, what if you were to change it to something completely worthless to my character? would I then have to shell out another few gold, getting new runes, because I dont like what they have been changed to?

I dont think that’s particularly fair… if anything, the runes should be removed, and you should have the option to re apply them, or sell them on TP (i dont mind not getting EXACT compensation for what i spent, but its gotta be at least close).

I kind of agree here. Runes that have changed effects should be auto-removed so at least we can do something with them if the changed effects are useless to us.

Chris (and ANet…): First of all, if you want to have a meaningful discussion with your players base, you really need to stop alienating yourself with all the PR talk your official posts are riddled with. Your first post here… it was difficult to read without cringing: if you want honest meeting of minds, stop being dishonest up from.

Please take a look at how Digital Extremes handle their forums for Warframe.
They are honest and upfront. There is almost no PR talk (that I can assure you a lot of your “most dedicated fans” are allergic to by now, one and a half years after your Manifesto – but since you read the forums you should know that!). And they have a brilliant “Weekly hot topics” where their Customers Relation representative highlights what was hot on forum and what team thinks about the feedback / what they plan to do.
Also, they never hide their mess-ups with – again – wall of PR garbage. They are not afraid to bluntly admit: guys, we kitten up, badly. We are sorry, here is what we are doing about it.
It saves a lot of bad blood, but also actually opens grounds for ACTUAL conversation.
Unfortunately – let me state it again – what ANet seems to be doing alienates fans. Stop it. Don;t let PR spin doctors edit your posts. Honestly, we can see through them. They are silly.

I do have to agree. Every time I see the blatant PR speak I just skip the post as irrelevant. People love the active back-and-forth, even if it doesn’t end how we, as players, may want it to. Josh’s SAB posts proved that. We may not have liked all the responses, but the dialogue was refreshing and wonderful. It felt like we were talking to a person instead of a machine, which PR responses basically are.

[Black Lion Trading] TP bought items should be account bound

in Suggestions

Posted by: SynfulChaot.3169

SynfulChaot.3169

No. You’re not the only one who feels that the practice is wrong. There are many, many people who think that it is wrong. It’s just that the people who take advantage of the TP are very, very vocal and love trying to browbeat all others into agreeing with them.

It’s not even that. It’s the question of “why prevent players from doing this?” which is there. Preventing this sort of thing could very well come off as an arbitrary limitation, no matter how well it is received. And the more limitations you put on what your players can do, well . . .

Arbitrary limitations? Like the ones that keep getting imposed on those that try to accrue gold without abusing the TP? Like Diminishing Returns? Like once-a-day account-bound rewards so as to prevent using alts? Like that fact that it is impossible to make as much money in a day without abusing the TP than you can by playing the market and siphoning money out of the system without returning any value?

Players that just want to play the game itself are constantly being hit with these ‘arbitrary limitations’. Why should TP abusers be immune?

100 gold to play a mini game

Ok. I won’t. Nor will tons of others. And a perfectly good mini-game will be ignored more than all the others.

You can still do the mini game. You just need to buy 1 of the kits to do the pvp achievements.

Yeah … maybe just enough for the achievements if I get bored. Then never again. Gating people out of content for money will only make people do the minimal if at all. 100g is just to kittening much for a mini-game.

If the skins were also all available directly for gems, then this backlash against Evon would be much less. I don’t like gambling my real money, in-game or out. If I like something, I want to buy it. Not buy a minuscule chance at it. Sell us the good stuff directly, Evon!

October 15th balance/skills updates preview.

SynfulChaot.3169

No, it isn’t. Thieves don’t stealth just to use sneak attack. Stealthing is the ONLY survivalist method thieves have outside of blind spam, and that’s only doable with offhand pistol. A stealth-based thief will be completely crippled because a ranger has a single skill on their utility bar, and will then be left defenseless since he didn’t spec in to the acrobatics line and only has two dodges, with a maximum of four or five if using sword/dagger.

So a single skill. A single skill on a 40 second timer will completely invalidate a thief? A skill only one class gets? Really? Hmm. Seems fishy to me.

How did the ranger get here?

in Ranger

Posted by: SynfulChaot.3169

SynfulChaot.3169

After this patch I, as many of you fellow rangers did, noticed that once again we have received the short end of the balance stick. This has puzzled me since launch.

Back in January it was said by Jon that he felt that the ranger was the class in the most need of improvement. Six months later and we have received far more nerfing than buffing, despite being at the bottom tier in PvE and WvW and near the bottom in PvP. Last patch we recieved a nerf because we had one viable PvP build that was not bottom tier. And this nerf was across the board in all game modes when it was only ‘needed’ in PvP. Scarily enough, it was that PvP build that was least effected by it.

And that brings me to how the ranger has gotten to this point. After this latest nerf to my fave class I decided to do a bit of forum diving. And what I found was quite alarming.

Rangers. We are to blame for all of this. We are to blame for our weakness.

When I look in any other class-specific forum, warrior for instance, I find a lot of the same sentiment. Most everyone can agree that this latest patch buffed warriors. Yet when I visit their forum I see everyone there agreeing that the warrior is still too weak and many even claiming nerfs. I barely see anyone arguing otherwise.

Now when I look to our ranger forum here I see contention everywhere. Any time I see anyone talking about the real problems with our class, it is rare that someone else doesn’t come by and try to tell them that it is not a problem. By doing this each and every time we are telling ArenaNet that the class is fine as is. And by our excessively low standing in all game modes, I feel confident in saying that it is not.

What can we do about it? How about as a community come to some sort of consensus of how we see the class and where we all see it. Right now we are giving ANet so many mixed messages they cannot see our true complaints through all the defenders. Lets stop those mixed messages and let them see what we see. A wonderful class with lots of potential but few current applications.

I’d say that some of the hair will need better bio-luminescence effects. A good percentage of all Sylvari I see use the same hairstyle as it has better a better glow than the others. I actually used that one as the hair I really wanted had a much worse glow effect.

And definitely more aquatic hairstyles. Kelp/seaweed fronds and or coral branches would be incredible. Maybe even aquatic-looking drawn-back dreadlocks that look made from bull kelp stalks.

i wasn’t singling you out or anything, i was speaking in general to all those that feel they shouldn’t have to pvp to get some arbitrary achievement in a pvp zone.

The problem they are noting is that the placement of the kite is arbitrary. It’s not that they have to PvP in a PvP zone. It’s that ANet put it in a PvP zone in the first place.

plus it’s a hostile community because it’s based on your characters killing other characters. pvp is competitive by nature, its a competitive environment, it wouldn’t be fun without hostility.

Not true. Just because you need to play against other players does not mean you need to act harshly towards them. That is a common fault among many PvP players. That is the biggest reason I dislike PvP and do little WvW. It’s the community that makes me avoid it. I prefer speaking with and interacting with those that know how to be polite and who know what is and is not appropriate.

Uhm, do i even have to say anything? For you whining completionists, have fun with your 99%. See how far your whining got you?

Meanwhile i finished the JP 2 nights in a row, there was only a zerg on the first night. Guess it’s impossible to finish the JP though, right?

Flipping items and basically stealing gold from players who actually need the items should not be far more profitable than anything else in the game. We should be able to make money at a comparable rate without taking advantage of other players. Unfortunately, we can’t. And that is a design failure.

Please explain how reselling is stealing gold from players.

I didn“t want to sound it that mean, sorry. Just really disappointed again with the patch.

I also main a ranger …well since early beta (when we actually kicked kitten with a greatsword ;-) ) … and nothing since then convinced me really that they are working on the real problem.

To me it seems they dont even see where the problem is.
Its like someone lost a leg and they putting little patches on and say “there there” ^^

Well they disappointed me for the last time with this “patch” thats for sure…
I wish you luck and have fun with your subpar class in a game where the balance devs not even find the right trait when they are looking for it…

I still laugh at that two dudes (man to think they are in charge of the balance changes…. suddenly everything becomes very very clear)

again… sorry if I was rude
I hope you accept my apologies… have fun Syn….

Yeah. I think we’re all disappointed with the patch. I will be enjoying a few more pets now that their health is buffed in PvE, as will I be enjoying the maul buff when I’m not using the sword. Other than that, though, we really didn’t get much in the way of support. In fact, one of our biggest supports got shanked (Vigorous Renewal, RIP).

I’m still hoping that the health buff is just a first step and more pet changes will be coming once they see how much (or how little, most likely) the health buff actually changes things. I think they’re massively overestimating how much that will help.

As someone who personally abdicates their wins, I say that no, there should be no expectation that you do the same.

If someone chooses to abdicate their victory, that is fine. But you should not have that forced on you. You should not give up your victory unless it is your choice. This is still a race after all.

This is true. People need the choice to be an kitten or not be an kitten .

I don’t believe that is true. Choosing to win isn’t being a kitten. It’s wanting to take the win you’ve earned. Demanding for them to give up their win when they don’t want to is being a kitten.

If they want to take their wins and you don’t like it, then leave their game and find another that may help you more. Noone should be under any obligation to throw any games or not to throw any games. Expecting anything else is forcing your will on them. And that’s just not right.

And before you jump on me, I do abdicate my wins personally. I just don’t think I should demand others do as well.

I can understand not increasing longbow range, but why not merge Eagle Eye with Quick Draw and/or Piercing Arrows and have it bring shortbow back to 1,200? Build compression and both bows are different from each other at all times. The short bow isn’t a very fun weapon right now.

Because that’d make it an EXTREMELY powerful trait, not to mention that they’d need to make another trait to fill the void.

Not that powerful. Look at Burning Arrows for warriors. Range extension, recharge reduction, and increased damage against burning foes in one trait. We should not need more traits to do the same work as the warrior.

EDIT: Apparently I misread and it doesn’t have the range extension. Still. I don’t think it would be to broken.

Petition for Pet Removal *Option*

in Ranger

Posted by: SynfulChaot.3169

SynfulChaot.3169

No…it’s not like asking other classes to remove their class mechanic. Just come up with something different. GW1 did it with the Expertise attribute. Granted that doesn’t work here because there’s no energy management, but that doesn’t mean they can’t find something else. Use their brains, be creative.

And if they can’t figure out how to do that then they just plain have a bad trait system. Good grief, are you serious? I don’t know anyone that likes their pet in high dmg aoe situations…which just happens to be the end-game in GW2. Why in the world would anyone like having 1/3 of their dps not controlled by them and in the hands of a kitten y ai. /facepalm

Exactly. Why would anyone want a pet at all. Even an optional removal of pets would force that option to stay in the meta. There is little they could do in most cases to make the pet attractive as an option if no pet was an option. That’s the problem with removing the pet, even if it’s optional.

Except its true. Infact chosing a pet utility skill is a wasted slot, since pets die in a heatbeat meaning you have skills that are totally useless when the pet is dead.

Even with a massive HP boost to pets, the AI and pet bar functionality is so lackluster that it simply wont make much of a difference. Your pet will still act stupidly, and die.

Right now, pets can still survive well if you micro them so long as there aren’t constant AoEs spammed everywhere. My pets have almost constant uptime. The only downtime they have is when there are too many AoEs for me to mitigate, such as in WvW zergs or particular dungeon encounters. That HP boost should hopefully give us a larger window to recall/swap pets for more uptime, but only time will tell if it is enough.

A skilled ranger chooses the pet for the utility because a skilled ranger realizes that we can only fully reach our potential with our pet.

All these new topics about Achievements

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: SynfulChaot.3169

SynfulChaot.3169

I love how all these new topics have suddenly started popping up now ever since they announced that achievement points would unlock new content. And they all basically say the same thing. They want to limit the achievement points you get from doing certain things, some even suggest removing points already gained from doing dailies and such to “make it more fair for newer players”. Such BS. Do they really think we’re that stupid? All are thinly veiled attempts for the “leet” players to stay top dog and prevent more people from getting the same shinies they have so they can feel special. You aren’t fooling anyone. If achievement points were really that important to you, you would have made these topics months ago BEFORE they announced you’d get exclusive rewards for it. You all just want to wave your kitten at everyone in town and say “i’m better than you because I have something you don’t!” And I love how all of them try to make some excuse at how it will “balance things out”. It’s fine the way it is now.

Most of the things they are suggesting are ridiculous and would actually prevent a lot of people from getting anything. I spend maybe 6 hours a day playing, most of that time spent in WvW and occasionally do a dungeon with some friends. I don’t have like 10k points like some of the people who are suggesting these asinine changes. I think i’m about 100 shy of 5k. Which is maybe 2 to 3 times more than what a lot of people I’ve seen have in WvW. Anyone can tell you the amount of points you get from doing mostly just PvP related stuff is small. You’re welcome by the way for all the bonuses you get in PvE from crap we capture in WvW.

Not only would your foolish, selfish suggestions screw over PvPers, but screw over newer players as well, even though you claim the changes you want are for the benefit of newer players who missed out on dailies. In conclusion, don’t fix what isn’t broken!

Some selfish players are speaking out just to stay atop the leaderboards, yes. But those are not the only voices. Some of us are speaking strictly of how it would pan out long-term. Just so I don’t need to repost all of that, check out some of my posts in those threads to see what I mean.

Now I realize if the points system works as it is now that PvP and WvW players would be at a disadvantage. ANet would need to revamp those achievements as well as to not unfairly punish those players. And you don’t need to say ’you’re welcome’ for the WvW rewards as if we should be grateful as PvE players. I can tell you that most all of us truly don’t care about those and wouldn’t even truly notice if they permanently disappeared. Well … aside from wondering why our stat numbers are wrong for the millionth time while gearing out a character.

I’d like to see the ranger trait eagle eye get some love maybe 5% dmg and 5% crit applies to bow skills and harpoon gun instead of just longbow and harpoon gun

I’d love to see it give some love to the SB as well. Maybe allow traited SB to regain 1200 range. Because, right now, rangers have no 900+ range condition damage.

We are not punished for using the sword you just have to rethink your evade. In truth you have 4 evades. Your two normal evades become back-ups and the second and Third skill become your primary.

One thing The Queens Gauntlet should of taught us is that weapon skill evade are very valuable. While running is circle may have seem the thing to do. Evading with weapon skill allow you to be anywhere you wanted to be.

You will only die in dungeon due to a failure to evade with the sword if you don’t know how to properly use skills 2 and 3. You may die with the sword due to too much damage intake but that’s another issue.

Rangers can have 7 evades in one build the only other class that can have that many are thieves with 8. If you only use dodge as a means to evade then you’re missing so much of what we can do.

You don’t need to stack toughness to tank. Rangers in Gw1 were good because of all the evades we had. We didn’t attack fast with our bows. If you think so log-on to gw1 and see how slow we attacked.

We are punished as it makes it more difficult to use the evades and dodges we have access to. The ranger sword is, bar none, the most difficult weapon in the game to properly use and has the highest skill floor by a large margin. Despite what you perceive to be it’s power, I don’t feel that it deserves the drawback that it does.

Yes, it is a strong weapon, relatively speaking of course. Yes, it has good evades. But the much higher skill level required to use it properly makes it hard to use, or even impossible to some. With that I am speaking of players with high ping/latency, of course, which is something completely outside of their control. For those players that weapon is just not an option. And even for the players with good ping where it is an option, it takes significantly more skill to use. More skill than any other weapon in the game requires.

That being said, I have been using the sword myself in dungeons. It is our highest DPS weapon by a decent margin. I only swap to GS when the higher mobility is a necessity and the sword drawbacks outweigh it’s benefits. When the GS’s defensiveness is more important than the sword’s offensiveness.

And you’re completely right that we don’t need to stack toughness to tank (in PvE; PvP is a different story). We survive based on our evasion and not getting hit in the first place. That’s always been the Guild Wars ranger, in both 1 and 2, and to that I’ve never disagreed.

I frequently run AC sub-level 80. AC and TA, once you know the encounters, are pretty easy for a chara to run at-level.

I am also firmly against the ‘you must be 80’ attitude. I find it to be elitist and shunning of potentially perfectly good players. If you want your speed-runs to be 80 only, that is find. But saying that all players need be 80 for dungeons is false.

I agree, the favoritism is very blatantly and unprofessional especially when they are trying to push this game as an esport.

Extremely. I hold that the main balance devs should be forced to play only rangers in all game modes for an entire month. Maybe then they would be forced to see what we’ve been saying since launch.

Whoa! A good post by Burnfall!

All joking aside, yes, I loved the ranger in GW1 and what we have in GW2 today is but a pale shadow of a wonderful class. Traps are worse. Spirits are worse. Pets are worse. Our ranged damage is kitten by design due to it being ‘safer’, despite it not really being any safer due to the prevalence of gap-closers. Our overall damage is kitten by design due to having a pet.

We’re a jack-of-all-trades. Unlike in GW1, though, we’re a master of none. I still main a ranger, though. And I won’t stop maining my ranger until I leave the game, which I don’t intend to anytime soon.

I dont see the point with this thread, other then “Q_Q this isnt what was promised a year ago”

It is pointing out the shortcomings of the class when it is obvious that they know how to make an effective ranger.

Or, rather more likely, Kiel had stacks and stacks of crates loaded onto ships and uderhandedly sent to the BLTC by Lionguard ships, while the players were off busy doing the work of real heroes and defeating the Legendary Karka Queen. In doing this, it would both allow her to do her dirty work while deflecting your unsuspecting blame to Evon, who she thought she could trust to shut up about his sources.

Pretty far reaching foundless conspiracy theory that doesn’t mesh with the established character personality there.

Maybe to encourage players to bet with each other? Makes it more fun. Who cares about infinite use? Get a few dozen cheap ones that’s all you ever need. How much will you realistically be playing this? About as much as people play choir bells.

Heh. With this paywall they are guaranteeing that I won’t be playing it outside of the achievements. And as the achievements are in turn behind that paywall, they are guaranteeing I will be boosting these achievements with a friend to minimize my money drain.

Keg Brawl doesn’t cost. No reason this should either. Now to get my Keg Brawl achievements before they add a cost to that to ‘balance’ it.

Make pet more utility based, change up skills and stats, whatever, but losing 60% of your DPS output because it relies on a AI unable to

walk away AoEs
dodge
and which have a 60sec CD on respawn

is just bad.

I really, really hate to have to be the one to say this, but … if your pet is responsible for 60% of your DPS then you’re doing something horribly wrong.

The update wasn’t all bad, but it did take more than it gave. It took SB range and pet damage. It gave a very minor SB damage buff and a significant LB damage buff. Unfortunately the LB buff only brought it up to in-line with the SB if you attack head-on. If you get any of the SB bleeds, the SB is still a superior weapon.

The LB should be the ranged weapon of choice for power-based rangers. It should be our hardest hitting ranged weapon that actually makes our opponents worry. Not a pitifully weak weapon that is outdone by a SB in all ways and that we only use because we want to attack at 1200 range and the option to use a SB that that range was taken from us.

As I was participating in these events for the achievement, someone said to us “Plz winner leave no winner x2 leave plz stop winner x2 stupid noob fsxk i need acheivnmtnz” or something along those lines.

Now, seeing someone whine like this just made me want to beat him more, troll him more. But I was wondering what the general consensus was: Should we just people who want to win… win?

And is there some sort of expectation that “winner” should “leave plz no winner x2” nowadays?

As someone who personally abdicates their wins, I say that no, there should be no expectation that you do the same.

If someone chooses to abdicate their victory, that is fine. But you should not have that forced on you. You should not give up your victory unless it is your choice. This is still a race after all.

Why is it that just because is uses the word ‘Permanent’, you all try to categorize it with such game-trivializing things such as Permanent Bank Access, Permanent Merchant, etc. They’re not even on the same level! This is more on line with the Unbreakable Choir Bell for usefulness, which goes for about 50g. Now that is a price that I would call reasonable.

Split second dodging in pve really. In PvE there is more than enough time to perceive the danger and then react to it. Perception and reaction should be instantaneous in pve there is more than enough time.

The average reaction time is 215 milliseconds. Nothing in guildwars 2 requires that kind of reaction time. If you happed to be bless with a reaction of half that then pretty much you have all the time in the world (time being relative). In PvE Mobs have over blown animation red circles appear 2 to 3 seconds before you need to dodge them.

The argument against root is more valid in PvP then PvE. While you may say mobs can down you in one shot but, your less likely to ralley in PvP.

The 1h sword is our best weapon: Anet made it root for a reason agree or disagree for them to change. Then their postion on the root would of had to change which is doubtful. Or they will give into what some of the players want and the removal of the root will most likely happen with a nerf.

So which aspect of the 1h sword do you want nerfed so you can use an evade that you have access to in another form: cripple, damage Oh I see the might for our pets since you guys cant seem to keep them alive.

Funny how most ranger that do melee keep their pets alive a lot better. They will be the ones that actually use this weapon to the fullest that will suffer the most for those who barely understand what this weapon bring into play for the ranger.

Its always the design it’s never the player.

It’s both, actually. Both problematic design and players not adapting to it.

You don’t need to remove any aspect of the sword attack to make up for the root that comes with it. The problem isn’t the jump itself. The problem is that we’re rooted both during the jump and for a non-insignificant period after the jump. This may not be an issue in PvP as the jump is a boon to you there. In PvE the jump is completely mechanically unnecessary due to PvE combat and not only disallows dodging but also strafing while attacking to avoid damage. This highly limits your damage mitigation to just your dodges and evades, both of which are delayed due to the root. Please tell me what part of design necessitates that we should be rooted after the motion. Because I can’t see one.

Please don’t assume I’m one of those rangers that can’t use the weapon and can’t ever keep the pet alive. It was a lovely allusion of me as a bad player. I’m not and it doesn’t help your argument. I actually know what I’m doing, thankyouverymuch.

As for reaction times? Not all attacks are highly telegraphed. Some are barely telegraphed at all. And that is if you can see the telegraph through effects on the boss. Even those attacks that are telegraphed cause us to need to halt our attacks much earlier so as to not be caught unable to dodge.

Basically after looking at all classes weapons and attacks, I find that the root on the attack is unnecessary and unfairly punishes us for using our most powerful weapon. No other weapon in the game do you need to turn off auto attack and cut DPS just to survive. No other. I’m sorry, but that’s just bad design.

Petition for Pet Removal *Option*

in Ranger

Posted by: SynfulChaot.3169

SynfulChaot.3169

after reading SynfulChaot.3169 posts, I have to agree. Pet option is really not a way forward. The pet has to go full stop as it is nothing better than a run of the mill NPC beast running around over Tyria. We should not have a buff over a pet (or a handicap depending how you look upon it).

Strange. I don’t seem to recall saying anything about wanting the pet to go permanently. I did say that I think we should be able to perma-stow the pet, but that’s simply for maneuverability in some sections where the pet loves trampling mines and stuff and being in the way. Not for combat or anything else.

Exactly. Why would anyone want a pet at all. Even an optional removal of pets would force that option to stay in the meta. There is little they could do in most cases to make the pet attractive as an option if no pet was an option. That’s the problem with removing the pet, even if it’s optional.

Seriously? You don’t see the benefits of having the pet outweighing NOT having the pet in most scenarios? Even IF we got damage compensation the pet would be a larger boon than not, the pet would provide us a TON of CC that we just flat out can’t have without them (almost all of our stuns, knock downs, immos, fears, etc come from pets). Not to mention if we opt out of a pet, we lost the #1 advantage that saves our buns in this current meta, CC isn’t that effective on us. Sure you can CC the ranger, but that pet is still there to kitten up your day with either damage, since they’re standing still so nicely for that little kitty to just slip into stealth and you scream “Sic’Em!” as you sit there dazed and confused. Or just interrupt their burst via a pig, dog, black/pink moa, Drake charging up their lazor (i’ve yet to see a single half decent player decide to eat that over just saying “kitten the burst”), etc etc. Not to mention in PvE you lose out on an agro bot, i know a LOT of the time my groups kitten have been saved because of a pet, hell, the ONLY reason my group managed to kick Mai Trins kitten in her time limit was because Chopps Bear and my Earth Elemental (was on my ele for the fight) were tanking her so beastly in those lightning fields and sucking up condis like kittening champions.

No. I can see the benefits of having a pet. But only in few circumstances such as PvP.

If we got damage compensation than the ranger would border on OP unless the pet was relegated purely to a support role. And all implementations of a pet would still, with the current AI failings, have troubles with survival in some instances. Mostly in PvE, that is. That survival issue is why people want the pet gone.

Now in PvP and WvW roaming, I can still see pets being used. That’s where rangers are strong right now, and that is partially due to the pets. And yes, they would save us in that meta. But again, that is the PvP meta. Not the PvE one. Outside of that the pets are a bit of a weakness and I can see practically every ranger, if given the choice, permanently abandon the pet.

Just because you don’t see how having a pet would be better than not in just about every situation doesn’t mean it wont be. As for those situations where pets just flat out suck? Yeah i’d love to at least have SOME way to be on part with everyone else during those encounters, and if they wont just give us flat out AoE immunity/reduction on pets than they can at least give us the option to stow it.

Hell if they don’t wanna give us a free pass to ignore our mechanic put a Grandmaster trait in the kittening BM tree Called Tigers Fury or Bestial Wrath or w/e you wanna call it that makes the ability to have no pet an option and you gain a small bonus from the pet attribute instead.

Again, I see how having a pet in some cases would be better. PvP and roaming WvW are some of those places. Outside of those, the pet would be widely abandoned and those using pets would be ostracized for ‘weakening themselves’. You and I may not believe that is true, but truth doesn’t matter to the majority. Nor does it to those wanting the pet removed.

If you don’t see how giving an option to remove the pet and give us a buff for it would cause the pet to be abandoned permanently by most players, then you may want to look again at the posts by those arguing for pet removal.
