This is
I don’t even care who wins this match-up, it has been loads of fun. I’ve been in good battles every time I log on. Keep it up NSP and DH, this has been one of my favorite weeks in WvW.
This thread already addressed the transmutation stone thing. Strider apparently came to the same conclusion quickly on his own. Anet can figure it out too.
I’m willing to bet Anet would make MORE money with this system…
I’m also from GoM, and my concerns are basically the same.
The problem with leagues is it will make the matchups EVEN MORE IMBALANCED, and then rub it in the lower tier servers faces by rewarding the stacked servers.
I love being the underdog too, but GoM will be a T8 server soon (once the scores settle out). Fighting T7 servers will still be fun. Fighting one T6 server everyone once in a while could be an interesting challenge. But fighting T5 or multiple T6/T5 servers at once, that can be nothing but depressing. Since every server in the league will fight every other server at least once, this will happen frequently.
It has been a LONG time since I’ve seen a server stuck at 10 ppt for an entire week, but that will be happening again soon. However, this will be even worse than before, the game will reward the other servers for their “victory.”
WvW has enough balance issues. This league will only make it worse.
You guys forgot one prediction:
SF is not remotely prepared to deal with the NSP forum trolls. (true)
Even with “little bro” and “middle bro” and their staggering childhood abuse issues, the T8 thread is a breath of fresh air.
It’s looking like GoM might be green tonight. Great job GoM and many thanks to HoD and NSP for making this such a great matchup!
Lets enjoy this matchup while we can, eventually IoJ or SF will manage to mess it up for us. ARM save us all on that day!

Completely agree,
Anet might think they will profit more from the fine-transmutation stones. But create a wardrobe system and sell news skins each month and gobs of people will buy them just to have a full collection. Knowing that you can freely use skins will make people buy them more.
In case you missed it, the reset time changed again, it is now 9pm EST.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Separating-the-WvW-Reset-times-for-NA-and-EU
I’d say http://www.gw2wvw.net is the best option. I enjoy reddit but I have banned myself from going to that website as somehow 5 hours of my day disappears every time I visit. It is almost as bad as tvtropes.
What say you community-at-large?
Down-vote moderation can be trolled hard, so I hesitant to use that one.
Do we have someone from GW2guru who we could talk to about meeting the specific needs of this community?
I think the only way appease everyone is a two forum system. One forum with moderation, and one without any moderation. People can then choose which thread they want to be a part of. Additionally, inappropriate posts in the moderated forums can just be dumped into the unmoderated one. Trolls in the moderated forum would be “banned” only from the moderated forum, and could still troll their hearts out in the unmoderated forum.
If someone can get ^this^ to work, then I would hope that both the “trolls” and “care bares” would be ok with it.
I’m very surprised that Anet is still rolling this out, given all the serious concerns brought up here.
Based on the feedback here, Anet should stop progress, and make the following changes:
Being very frank, if Anet does not have a manual instance control UI ready to go, then I’m genuinely disappointed. They should have anticipated this problem, and hopefully they have.
Commander status should be account bound as well. It’s not reasonable to expect commanders to put up another 100 gold every time they want to play an alt. That’s a good way to get some of your most visible players to burn out faster and quit.
Completely agree.
On GoM right now, we commanders have been trading off who has run their tag and who gets to play their alts. Its better than nothing, but really tags should be account bound.
Not next year, no. Not months from now, no. It’s coming, and it’s coming very soon.
In fact, I’m going to a review in less than an hour, although that doesn’t set a release time quite yet.
What I wonder about is this: What if someone says something is coming “in the next couple of days” or “within the next week” or “by the end of the month” and then testing reveals an issue that delays the implementation? Would you rather hear something rather specific, like “in the next couple of days,” even while you know that it could change for reasons outside our control? Or would you rather hear “soon” and not have as solid an expectation, but also take on board that the implementation is a top priority (as was mentioned in the thread about the Currency Exchange changes)?
I feel that either answer isn’t perfect, so I’d welcome your insights. You should know that I truly do understand that “soon” is frustratingly vague and I argue against.. I mean, “I gently speak in favor of alternatives…” whenever we can use something more meaningful. On the other hand, saying something more specific can result in flaming “You promised it by XX time!” comments, because even a casual possible release time could be adopted as an absolute date/time/time zone promise.
Thoughts?
Give us an ETA, emphasis on the E.
When people complain that the ETA was not exact, remind them that estimates are not promises! You could even include that reminder after every estimate. Something like this.
Hi guys,
Don’t worry, this change is in review right now. It will probably be released in the next few days (remember: estimates are not promises). We’ll keep you informed.
-Hypothetical Anet Dev
If a player reads a post like that, and comes back five days later demanding that Anet make good on their promise, it is only because of that player’s stupidity. I hope that the community will address that player’s comments without Anet needed it intervene at all.
Wow, someone took our keep in EB – awesome, now we can actually do something in EB besides golem rushes. Apparently HH doesn’t read the forums, strategy would dictate ignoring our keep and forcing us to live in siege cap hell all week.
Couldn’t you just let the siege despawn? Is someone running around refreshing it all every 30 min? Is there a bug keeping it from despawning?
I mean no disrespect, I’m just honestly confused.
I mean no disrespect, I’m just honestly confused.
No siege despawned in our keep. We have been siege locked since Friday. Apparently despawing rules only applies to stuff built on the ground, or something like that.
Well that’s an nasty bug.
We have no interest in exploiting you, and honestly I didn’t know there was any sort of exception to the siege despawn rule. Make sure you submit bug reports, and if it happens again, let us know and we can work out a way to kill the siege for you. It ruins the fight for all of us.
I love this level of transparency and communication with the players. Keep doing this in the future!
Condimentalist! Use Ketchup Attack!
(Sorry, someone had to say it. Personally I prefer the sandwichmancer.)
And honestly, my experience in WvW leads me to believe that something like 75% of the people there are really terrible at PvP.
That is because we are not playing PvP.
WvW is not as hardcore as PvP. You don’t need leet skills to be helpful and useful to your server. Naturally, PAXA is an elite team. Usually, they are fighting casuals who have no interest in team deathmatch.
That said, PAXA has been great training for us on GoM. People have learned the importance of rezing downed players quickly, and spiking quickly. Overall, GoM is stronger due to our encounters with PAXA, just like GoM is stronger from all our outnumbered battles against DH.
PvP did not originate from warfront time/point/kill limit scenarios. So telling me that WvW is not PvP, you are wrong. 3 factions to kill…It may not be officially called by the Anet team “player vs player world” but it is open world pvp. The only difference between whatever open world pvp game you have played is that the majority of pve is not done in this zone. Just because pve isnt done in this zone doesn’t make it NOT open world pvp…..That being said, it is an open no time limit, no kill limit, no cap limit zone for killing and capturing of “your super tough objectives”….regardless, the fact that you wrote what you wrote just means you’ll never have our perspective of what real player vs player is like. All you will know and continue to know is this :
1. Gather supply
2. Put down blueprints
3. spam build with supply
4. put down more blueprints
5. run for more supply
6. /Map chat “If you are not on my blue dorito, GET HERE NOW!”
7. spam build next siege with supply
8. /Map chat “Guys door is going down in 10 seconds, GET HERE NOW!”
9. Spam 1 and 2 on keep lord
10. /map chat “We should thank commander blue dorito for all this valiant leadership”
11. Gather all 25 of yourselves and run to the next objective on the map
12. Continue this nightly, weekly, monthly, and onto your next MMO as THE way to pvp in open zonesWhat a joke
Clearly you have no respect for WvW.
That fine, you’re entitled to your opinion. Just don’t expect anyone here to respect you for it, because most of us are here for WvW.
Anet, listen to the OP
Please…
We will send you cookies!
sorry to report but, most of us on GoM disagreed with giving up points to the ET/FC that needed map completion. it’s caused a lot of infighting that will most likely continue.
How many points did we really give up?
We are going to gain 20+ rating points. And it looks like we are already set to pass up SF in rank: http://mos.millenium.org/na
As for the GoM community, I personally talked to leaders of 5ish WvW guilds and they were all on board. No one even hesitated, they all supported it completely. If people really lost morale about this…
I’m not exactly a “feelings” type of guy, but have a little empathy. Should they have to server transfer to get map completion? Personally, I’m glad that we were able the other servers out with map completion.
I wanted to pivot to something that Luna mentioned early in the thread, the idea of a more complex fight for Stonemist.
Would it make Stonemist feel too difficult to capture if the assaulting team had to capture and hold 3 capture points? Here are some of the problems I see with it.
1) It would encourage everyone defending to just blob up on one point and hold out as a group.
2) It could be so difficult to actually accomplish that it becomes nearly impossible to flip Stonemist. However, I think it would be an improvement to the current rush the middle of the room scenario.
Do any of you think this version of Stonemist would be an improvement or does it not really make any positive changes in your mind?
As you suggest, it would still come down to fighting over one circle.
However, you could change that:
Make the capture happen by controlling 2 out of 3 (or even 3 out of 5) of the circles. This would force the zerg to divide. Coordinated zergs would triumph, mindless blobs would lose.
Some of you guys seem to think that reporting is some sort of magical voodoo.
Reports merely gets the moderator’s attention. The moderators decide if you broke the rules. If you don’t break the rules, people can report you all they want, and nothing will happen.
Sometimes, people get infracted without any reports.
Sometimes, posts get deleted after only one report.
Sometimes, posts get reported constantly, with no consequence to the poster because they did not break the rules.
Sometimes, people report someone else, and end up getting infracted themselves because their own post broke the rules.
Infractions are because of rule breaking, not because of reports.

There are plenty of legit concerns to bring up about this game. This is not one of them.
Karl, if you are reading this, I hope you know that the majority of the community appreciates the level of communication you bring to us. I’m sure you don’t have to give us a heads up on balance changes or listen to our feedback and make changes before it goes live. Keep up the good work and ignore complaints like this!
This is the most essential part: The cure must not be worse than the disease!
If you break down the problem to its essence, it has two parts:
1) Server membership is voluntary
2) There is more incentive to stack than to unstack
Any effective solution has to change one of these two parts, without being worse than the disease. This rules out a lot of the proposed solutions. Some of them would even work, but would come at a terrible price.
Finding a solution that will work:
I doubt that Anet or the player base really wants to make server membership involuntary (no matter how you do that, it will hurt community). Therefore if there is a solution, it must come from changing #2. Somehow, there must be more incentive to destack, than to stack.
Finding the right incentive to destack will be tricky. If you give servers monetary rewards for being the underdog, then teammates might turn against each other when they get reinforcements, because those reinforcements are reducing their rewards. While it might be tricky, it think it is doable. These rewards could be tweaked until they provide enough incentive to destack, without significant negative side-effects.
TL;DR
Because no one wants to lose their freedom, the best solution is to provide an incentive for voluntary destacking. This incentive could be some form of a precisely regulated monetary bonus to lower pop servers.
To be fair, there is no way that Devon Carver can be as out of touch or incompetent as the disparity between what he says and what he delivers suggest. I can only think that he does very much want what he says to happen but ends up being forced to take whatever he can get then takes a deep breath and ‘sells’ it to the community.
You could very well be right. I know it has been referenced before that when it comes to rewards/currency, he is controlled by other teams. He can pitch his ideas, but they decide. That said, he has gotten us some pretty nice stuff before (like cheap exotic weapons/armor, and a 10 laurel discount on ascended jewelry).
Proposal Overview:
Simply the guild upgrade system by removing the build queue.
Goal of Proposal:
The goal of this proposal is to remove all the frustrating micromanagement that goes into managing upgrades, by simplifying the system. I’m recommending that the build queue be removed entirely, and in its place all upgrades will fall into two modes: Instant Buy, and Cost Per Day.
This improves upon the current system, which requires constant babysitting and fidgeting. If you want to keep a buff up 24/7 it requires a coordinated group effort. There is no reason why it should need to take this much effort.
Proposal Functionality:
Associated Risks
Despite the success of the game mode, WvW is not a priority for Anet. It never was.
For a good long while, WvW accounted for most of the forum activity for this game. Instead of shifting their priorities based on player preference, they just shut down that part of the forum. They abandoned a strong and loyal community, because they did not want to shift their priorities to accommodate that community.
That is why I’m not on here angry. Anet has lowered my expectations to the point where I don’t expect anything anymore. Living Story and sPvP is their focus, WvW is a side feature (like jumping puzzles).
/starts praying that anet rolls out the sandwichmancer next April 1st
I think the whole ranking system should go away, and we should set up a “season” system where everyone plays everyone else a few times, match-ups change every single week, the wins and losses are totaled, and a score is arrived at based on the quality of your wins and losses. Server rewards should be based on current score, and after each season, it should reset. This rankings system just leads to people feeling superior for no reason.
Wouldn’t this just result in “T8” servers getting destroyed by lots of different servers week after week?
If everyone plays everyone, “T1” servers would almost always win, “T8” servers would almost always lose. It might be good from an accurate rating perspective, but it would make WvW unfun 90% of the time. It would just be blowout after blowout after blowout…
pvdoorin’ on a firday mornin’
I ain’t even mad.
Pretty gentle morning. Woke up to everything green.
Lost our bl. Gained our bl. Lost our EB. Gain our EB.Looks like DR had the same in the reverse order.
Just walked around and kicked the doors back down.Keep on truckin’, Rob.
^^^ that made me actually laugh out loud. Best gif ever.
we know how bloodlust affects matches, orbs were in the game a year ago.
it makes matches really snowbally and encourages giving up unless you have 2-3 orbs most/all of the time…
you will get night/morning/day capped at some point and wont be able to recover the amount of people you had before you got capped out… and then the winning server has an easier time defending everything they took from you and camping the ruins and gets even more people because wvw is easy.
it was taken out last year, it wont be different this year.
Bloodlust and Orbs are very different. Assuming that they will affect the meta in the same way is essentially a strawman argument.
With orbs, you could fortify the crap out of a keep with the orb in it, then all you needed was lookouts to call in the troops if someone attacked.
With bloodlust, you must keep boots on the ground at the ruins to hold the advantage, or else the other team can easily slip in and take it from you. This creates a strategic dilemma when it comes to troop allocation, one which can be exploited from the other side.
They are not the same.
We can add AKD and ApeX to the bay exploiting list… Yes, I got screenshots of you rezing through the gate.
I am now seriously considering rallying my whole server to push ET to third. Stop exploiting.
Go DR/AR/GOM.
You guys are having a closer matchup than the one we had that Anet called out. Well at least right now you are, there’s still half the week left for one of you guys to take a big lead. Would be really cool if all three of you guys were within 1000 or less points at the end.
Its probably not going to go that way. Based strictly on AR’s own statements in their recruitment thread they have gotten oceanic transfers, and it shows. We simply don’t have the coverage to compete.
I have to say, I’m actually glad that AR is rebounding (even though it might cost us 4th place). AR has sat at the bottom of the barrel for a long time, so I’m glad to see them rising again.
There is clearly a lot of misinformation going around. Any chance we could get representatives from [Agg] and [FSU] to clear everything up?
This is seriously cutting into our “make fun of T7” time.
If GoM can push itself to 2nd in our weeks matchup and FC pushing itself to 1st or 2nd the next week then the rankings would probably maybe even look like this at the end of the season
1st : Anvil Rock
2nd: Darkhaven
3rd: Gates Of Madness or Ferguson’s CrossingBest of luck to GoM, DH and FC ur still in the race keep it up!!! ^^ Here’s a picture to rally ur troops!! ; p
^^ Umm…
Before the big League deciding match next week, what are your revised predictions for how that match and the league will turn out?
Im still not sure who will win between HoD and SF and GoM has been surprising to say the least.
DH and HoD are having a closer match this week than i imagined would happen. FC isnt doing as good as we thought they would this week.
Its kinda nice that everything isn’t already decided. Its almost like it is actually competitive or something…

nah!
Submit a support ticket and delete this thread.
Summary of Day 1 of discussion:
1) There are a lot of people that would like to see more colors and/or more shapes for the commander icons.
2) People are arguing for commanders to be able to hide their tags from everyone and only have them be visible to select groups.
3) Improved supplyinfo command.
4) No chat suppression.
5) Account bound.
6) A change to the way the icon is acquired.
That doesn’t hit everything, but it hits some of the most commonly requested stuff. In addition there has been a discussion about if it is more important to redo the whole system or provide some small quality of life improvements first.
I wanted to provide some insight into what might be required for some of the types of changes that are being requested, so everyone has a clearer understanding when thinking about them.
Any change that requires significant UI, especially any new UI functionality, is a long term change. Not only does it take time to design the UI and settle on it’s appearance, it takes time to build the functionality. That is why any full on rework of the squad system will be a large project. It is important to us that when we introduce new UI elements we have fully fleshed out their place in the rest of the game UI.
With that out of the way, I have some more questions.
1) What is an acceptable amount of chat suppression for a commander? It’s important to realize that if the system remains as it currently does, with 100g for a tag, no chat suppression would mean that people can spend 100g to spam you with whatever they feel like. That’s not an acceptable solution. I think there are other things we could do, like provide a commander only channel that has no suppression but that people have to opt in to.2) How would it feel to have a system that gradually unlocked more commander abilities and icons, but that required dedication to WvW? Let’s say we added a commander line to the ability panel and you unlocked it with WvW ability points. What is the right starting price for that? 100 points? more? If that happens, does it make sense for the system to remain character based? Would requiring commanders to spend their WXP in this way limit them to the point that they didn’t want to do it? What if you still acquired the current tag by spending 100g, but you upgraded to new shapes via the WXP system?
About new UI elements taking a long time:
I fully expected that a UI overhaul would take a long time. However, I think it is by far the best option, and would be worth the wait.
Answers to Devon’s questions:
1) Perhaps try doubling the threshold and see how it goes?
2) I would prefer not to tie it to WXP. Truth be told, World rank is mostly a measure of how much time you spend in a karma train. Many good commanders spend hours defending and earn very little WXP from it. Additionally, the commander tags are very important in PvE.
(edited by titanlectro.5029)
What a misleading title…
WvW is failing? Even if everything you said was true (which it is not), WvW would not be failing. Queue times result from high demand, the opposite of failing.
3/4 of your problems with WvW can be solved by transferring to a lower tier server.
Let’s keep things civil. We don’t want T7 to think our thread is interesting, they might come for a visit.
/shudder
With that in mind, stop accusing [Agg] for everything please. [Agg] is good at what they do, and it takes a lot of skill to do it. We can argue until the heat death of the universe over how effective it is in T8, but I’d much rather play the game and find out.
I also sincerely hope that there is no mass exodus from FC. That happened to GoM before (repeatedly) and it sucks. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Selfishly, I love this balanced match-up, and a gutted FC would destroy that too.
Too bad Agg couldn’t wait a few more weeks to transfer. I wanted to see PAXA complain about Agg, it was going to be soooooooooo funny.
These changes are very appreciated!
If you wanted to relax the restrictions a bit more, you could allow mail and whispers to anyone in your guild.
I get the feeling that we have completely wasted our time and the developers time in this thread…
Here is a summary:
Players: We need to do something about population imbalance.
Developers: There is nothing we can do about population imbalance.
Players: Yes there is! Here are over 100 ideas!
Developers: Population imbalance cannot be fixed, lets talk about something else.
Players: You cannot be serious!
Developers: -silence-
Players: Say something!
Developers: Thank you for your feedback.
/thread
Let me be clear, this is not meant to be a slam on the developers. I really like the developers of this game. However, if fixing population imbalance is off the table, we should have been told that at the beginning. Better yet, we should have been given a different topic that might actually be productive.
The PvE living world thread has left me quite excited. This thread has left me disappointed and frustrated. Perhaps it was my expectations.
It is not too late to turn this thread around, but it will require significant DEVine intervention. I guess we will see.
@JonPeters
Thank you so much for that explanation. It makes perfect sense, I’m more than happy to wait for the delicate tinkering and bug fixing. I understand how hard it is to manage a game like this, and I’m continually blown away by Anet’s willingness to be transparent and even to admit mistakes.
@The Majority of Posters
Calm down and think. You (collectively) have accused Anet of being too fast and too slow with changes. You have accused them of doing too much and too little. Quite frankly, most of the posts here are contradictory, and yet they all demand something from Anet which is supposedly “easy” and “obvious.” If there was an easy and obvious way to fix all of this games problems, I guarantee you it would have happened.
Remember this, you are angry because you LIKE this game. Anger and love are two sides of the same coin. In order to get this angry, you must really like the game.
The reason this issue gets such a strong response is because it hits at the psychological core of gaming, getting rewards and achieving things. When something prevents you from getting that “fix,” it hurts. In a way, people are suffering from withdrawal. Thus the screaming, crying, ranting, rationalizing, etc.
They cannot fix this problem quickly. It involves debugging and crunching/interpreting a significant amount of game data, which takes time. Also, they cannot just turn off the “Safety Net,” or the next discovered exploit will destroy the economy, and ruin your ability to get rewards and achieve things anyway.
There is no pre-built system for managing an MMO. There are no rules or theorems. A lot of what Anet did was “best guess” stuff. Their only choice was to release the game with a “best guess” then use data crunching to tweak or rebuild things. The same thing goes for bugs, there is way too much content for them to catch all the bugs before release. If you expect a fine-tuned bug free game already, you are expecting too much. You only payed $60 after-all.
Due to “withdrawal pain,” people want knee-jerk solutions. I’m grateful that Anet has not given in.
TL DR
Your pain is valid and real, but yelling at Anet won’t fix it. If you have reasonable expectations, Anet is doing great.
Devon I think your doing a good job but seriously your out of touch with WvW. You and your team need to take the time before this league starts and transfer to every server and play at times your normally wouldn’t i.e. not reset day or NA prime. Your numbers tell you these servers crush people but it’s not until you actually see it in action that it sinks in and you realize skill has nothing to do with it. Do it in the name of research.
Watch as your group while in a T3/4/5 server won’t be able to take anything but camps and maybe a unguarded tower during European/Oceanic/SEA against T1/2 servers that you probably won’t hold for the point tick. Watch the karma train while sitting in a T1 or T2 server against T3/4/5. Watch in the lower tiers the literal ghost town at these times. Then you’ll understand the true gaps between the servers and maybe then it will lead you guys to a solution. As many have stated it’s not skill and never will be skill it’s all coverage and population
qft
I’m pretty sure they gave up on the CDI, and pretty much all forms of “looking ahead.”
They COULD continue to share parts of their vision of the future with us, complete with a huge disclaimer at the top saying, “This is all tentative, we are not committing to anything.” Instead, I guess they prefer giving us the silent treatment until we all turn into angry rage monsters.
EotM has given us an interesting opportunity to see what it looks like when WvW is completely separated from its community.
It is truly mind-blowing to see how completely EotM has stopped being a competitive game mode. It is 100% karma/xp train now, to the point where people complain that players are “trolling” them if they defend objectives.
The conclusion is simple and powerful: If you remove the community from WvW, the game mode collapses.
As such, it is then important that the WvW Community be encouraged and nurtured. Unfortunately, the most of the recent changes have hurt the community, rather than helped it:
It is time that we turn this around, and start actively supporting and encouraging the WvW Community. I think it would be great if the next WvW CDI focused on this topic. I think there are a lot of great ideas out there to do this, and many of them will not require a large investment in Anet’s part. Even if the CDI does not produce a lot of “tangible” results, it would still be valuable to have this discussion, so it can influence future decision making.
We actually caught the HP guys on video, but Anet said they can’t do anything because you cannot see the character names.
So Darek, if you caught them on video with the names included, e-mail it to exploits@arena.net and we will finally be rid of the hackers.
Also, thanks to Darek and the rest of FC for helping us out on this!
Do these guys play during the day? I’ve never seen this guild tag during my usual play hours (8PM to 12 midnight Pacific).
I never have either and I have been playing on FC for months and very active.
My guess is they roam alone in the least crowded BL’s
I’ve seen them any time from NA afternoon to NA latenight. They usually roam as a duo.
Do you even realize that siege like arrow carts are an anti-zerg mechanic.
Anti-zerg mechanic frequently used by zergs themselves to counter the opposition.
If you think these changes favour smaller numbers, then you’re deluded. This was already stated by the majority on here when they first decided to buff AC’s completely out of the blue.
ACs are anti-zerg siege. Zergs are allowed to use anti-zerg siege too. (Just like aircraft can have anti-aircraft missiles.)
The important part is that you don’t need a zerg to use ACs. Three defenders with ACs can bring a 30 man siege to a halt.
That said, server mergers will not solve the population balance issues. People will still stack to the winning servers, because they have incentive to do so.
That’s why it isn’t a good idea to merge the low-pop servers. Either
- start from scratch with fewer teams
- delete the Top-Pop-server to force the overstacked people to spread out. (they have the people that made the problems)
In both cases the balance-limits have to be implemented first (you are allowed to overstack again)
And then you just destroyed every last server community for your solution. We are back to the cure being worse than the disease.
I realize that there are some vocal forum users that are convinced that WvW is 100% broken and that any and all changes are justified because there is nothing good left in WvW. Clearly this is not the case. If there was truly no good left, then people would not care about it at all.
We must assume there IS good left, or else no one would be posting here! Therefore, it is paramount that we do not sacrifice the good of WvW to fix the bad! Removing the existing server communities or removing any form of teamwork with 40+ people, are both perfect examples of destroying the good to try to fix the bad.
And this still needs to happen.
I am glad commander is character-bound. It is important for servers to be able to recognize their commanders, and for them to be a lasting presence. If you could just switch to an alt and stay as a commander, players would have little vested knowledge into who you are and what your qualifications / style / etc. are.
Let the commanders worry about that.
Making players spend 100g per alt needs to have a better reason than this.
I agree with slamz here. If you are a recognized commander, in a recognized guild, then all you have to do is remind people who your main is. Your guild tag will be the same, your guild will back it, and everything will be good. Also the account name stays the same, just in case someone challenges it.
If people read chat then you don’t have a problem. If people don’t read chat, then they are probably mindlessly following tags around the map anyways.
