GW2 unlikely to get expansions [Interview]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This song about making core game experience as strong as possible and all is going on for a 6 months now. And WvW did get a culling fix, and sPvP got CA and a Spectator mode, and PvE got … chunks and bits of Living Story i guess, well, there was an Orr fix and AC rework, i’am not sure if you can call AC rework a success though, since it’s deserted now, while it was quite lively before the update. So, first of all, the definition of the “core experience” is really spacious in GW2 and second, just imagine if the full expansion would be coming out in 2 months… Including all those already released features, like culling fix in WvW and PvE, CA, sMode, but on top of that new story, new continent, new modes for sPvP and new what not. Oh well, yea, no Living Story, how horrible. And no SAB prolly. Decide for yourself what would you choose. xP

What Colin said in this topic so far sounds to me like a damage control tbh, nothing more. Been there, heard that. It’s not like they’re going to roll out an expansion’s worth of content in next 2 months anyway. xP

My Thoughts on Halloween 2014

Repeating holiday events is fine, especially considering that they’re way and much better in GW2 than such events in any other MMO. However, why we see those threads poping up and why many ppl in general feel meh about it and feel like complaining is, i believe, because of suffocating LACK of satisfying new content in GW2 over the past ~year and a half. People been waiting for the expansion and new about it for a veeeeeeeeery long time and nothing’s been given to them, disappointment and frustration stacks up, even the smallest things start to kitten them off. And all this, while AN repeatedly on several occasions showed lack of respect for parts of it’s playerbase. Unwanted changes, ignoring for a long time of the various issues, general lack of communication untill recently, especially meaningful communication and not just damage control etc. So, no wonder. xP

I still play WvW, but much less now. Main issues for me are culling issue and poor performance, game’s engine is too CPU dependent, i wish AN would optimize it further.

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

Race: Norn
Class: Warrior
Sex: Female
Weapon: in my experience any one-handed weapon when stowed
Armor: Phalanx Armor from gem store

The issue is pretty much self explanatory from screenshots. Any of the one-handed weapons i was able to test are sort of hanging in the air when stowed. This issue is also present with pirate outfit. I included the screenshot of my character’s body type, just in case, maybe this issue might not be present with another body type.

You and 24354656734 other players think that way. But that’s not for GW2. In GW2 the ascension is when you pile up stacks upon stacks of all kinds of crap for a week or so and then spend half an hour staring at filling up progress bars on your screen. This is fun gameplay and good game design in 21st century for you from Anet. Enjoy.

It’s an item sink. Otherwise, items like runes of divinity would be dirt cheap.

If so, isn’t it silly to deny players quality of life improvements only for that reason? Not like it’s such a huge gold sink anyway. Surely Anet could find a work around here, create a new gold sink etc.

Yes, why not. Quality of life improvements are always welcome, especially in gear department in GW2, where it’s a total mind boggling mess atm. As for legies, they were supposed to be cosmetic anyway, i don’t see why someone who decided to spend 2435365 hours to farm legie can have better quality of life in GW2 than all other players. :P

Revenant Changes 28/10

So you decide you need to tone down Phase Traversal, how you go about it? You could i.e. increase energy cost by 5 pts., make 1 attack unblockable instead of 2 and make unrelenting assault last 3-4 s. instead of 5. OR. You could i.e. make range 900 instead of 1200. Both of those seem reasonable enough. But 5 second cd? Oh my god. You managed to create something genuinely fun and now you kitten on it. Devs, you aware that ports in your game fail at times, right? Right? Before the nerf, if it failed, well, you go about it again. Now? You’re done. This is a such poorly thought through decision, such poor logic, just why you do things like that, you’re game devs for heavens sake.

And Crystal Hibernation. Do you guys have experience in being present in some team fights where dh’s, eles, reapers unload their stuff? You play your own game, right? Right? You know that cc now is AoE. It’s not targeted at you, it’s just there because those classes are there. Shocking auras, aoe fear, aoe daze again and again. And how do you come up with increased cd on shield block then? Where it comes from? Your concern was rev’s sustain in 1v1’s and small skirmishes? I.e. you could perhaps lower the healing from it then? No?

I’am so sad right now. Why you do things like that, why you don’t think things through? Rev is extremely fun class, please do not kill it with utterly misplaced and poorly designed nerfs.

Asc. gear, guild missions.

@HiddenNick.7206
GW1 was truly casual in terms of time consumption and schedule. All my toons were equally developed in terms of gear and skill, i could choose whoever i liked or needed at any given moment in the game. Thats what i cared about in GW1. With how things turning out with ascended gear currently in GW2 it’s no longer the case. I don’t mind at all when there’s some shiny thing like legendary out there which requires you to grind for it for a very extended period of time (although it is yet another example of a really bad and lazy game design), but when it becomes like a routine, like a daily activity, when they suggest that i should spend months to equip just 1 toon in bis gear… it’s not a GW anymore, it’s some kittening horrible version of WoW. Guild mission are already like raids in WoW, they’re so restricted, so gated, that you need to have guild-scale schedule in order to do them, log in on some kittening specific time and day.

September Fix Patch

wasted.6817

Funny thing, to some degree the previous feature pack was also a bunch of more or less fixes rather than features. And this one, so far, yes, pure Fix Pack. Not a single meaningful feature so far, all are fixes to, at best, recently introduced systems/features like megaserver, or just to the core ones, like to pvp and party system, 2 years later, better than never, gee thanks.

Still it’s frustrating how they scramble for every tiny little bit of anything they do, for every crumb, to present it with galore, FEATURE kittening pack. BIG kittening CHANGES coming to commander SYSTEM. Now they’re 4 different colours and all this half kittening kitten d so called system is accound bound now instead of character. Wow, i’am overkitteningwhelmed, can’t help but to wonder, what’s coming in 2 more years.

Gear is different, it tied to your performance one way or another.

GW2: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

I’d say that combat seriously hindered by the horrible particle system, when you can’t make out what’s going on on the screen for the life of yours and thus you’re not reacting or anticipating, you act in a semi random way, just guessing what can be happening there right now, judging from your past experience. Plus the fact that too many classes use passive mechanics, such as mesmer clones, necro minions, engi turrets makes thing even worse.

And i don’t think optimisation can be called good. Audio engine is still quiet glitchy, long loading times plus things tend to appear (or not) right in front of you for quiet some time after map loaded, including the UI elements, some areas where you have unreasonable FPS drops (look Southsun Cove) and the main thing, this engine clearly wasn’t designed to handle massive number of players on the screen, the vision AN had for this game and the tech they used for it, they just don’t match. Imo it’s a long way to go before optimisation can be called “good”.

No, we don’t. Personally i don’t want any new playable race, it’s a waste of dev’s time and resources, there’s next to no gameplay in there, but kitten tons of initial work and even more continued work, to make armor for them etc. etc. etc. kittening nightmare and for what? So you could look at omagad feathers for a sec. and then scratch your head, so what to do now? kitten that.

@wasted

A druid, for instance, could be melee or spell-based dps, a tank or a healer.

Yes, but what i meant to say is, no matter what kind of Druid you are, the choice of gear is always clear. Same for your Pally, one type of gear for your healing needs and another for tanking, but just one for each, not a whole bunch of different gear sets without specific distinctions for roles. You choose a role, in case of your Pally 2 roles, and your path is set, you’re grinding raids and dungeons for your gear. It can be fun. Now compare it to what we have in GW2, not only it will probably in the end take longer to grind for all the stuff you would want, but also it’s not particularly fun, it’s not like you’re going to raid with your friends and guildies. You will be just grinding the kitten out of the game for mats and then craft, craft, craft. It’s like GW2 is trying to sit on 2/3/4 chairs at once, but fails to land it’s massive kitten on even one. Pardon my analogy.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

— Cantha.
— Alliance Battles.
— Reworked skill system which would let you choose skills from a list for each weapon and for F1-4 instead of fixed skill list like it is now.
— Bugs for skills and traits fixed (since, they’re obviously impotent to do it via regular updates) xP .
— Would be nice to see GW1-style quests making it back to the game, zones will have more background to them then, imo hearts are not enough.
— More modes for sPvP, ability to watch replays.
— Possibly new weapons, at least for some classes.
— Reworked dungeon system which would encourage players to do all dungeons instead of farming one to death (CoF p1).
— Audio engine is very glitchy, would be nice for them to finally fix it. xP
— Build and equipment manager, ability to swap builds of the fly.
— Ability to bind consumables, or an action bar for consumables n stuff.

Comprehensible Combat for Everyone

in PvP

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

It’s not a secret that this game often looks very hectic not only for players, but for viewers as well, probably for viewers especially. This hurts GW2 and it’s community on many levels, such as general PvP potential of this game, enjoyment from everyday gameplay for every players etc. There are certain things AN can do about it. It’s not hard to figure out what things are those, all you need to do is to look at GW2’s predecessor — Guild Wars. That game was nearly flawless at how well presented it’s combat was and how readable it was for everyone, be it a spectator or a player. Why is that? I see multiple reasons for that.

1. Cleaner, neater and overall better particle system. Barely anything was over the top, there wasn’t any clutter on the screen.

2. In addition to visual animations and tells many skills, and probably all key skills, had sound tells and effects attached to them. It’s been a long time since in played GW1, but i don’t have any problem whatsoever in recalling the sound of a monk using Guardian or Patient Spirit, or Protective Spirit and animations associated with those spells, or the sound of mesmer’s Power Block, or ranger’s Savage Shot. There are many more examples, those are just few poped into my head just now.

3. Last, but not least, the skill floaters. In GW1 you could tell that Energy Surge was used on you not just from your mana being drained, but also from a very distinct skill icon floater appearing above your character. Just imagine how much easier it would be for new people to understand what is going on in PvP if they could see such floater icons for skills in GW2, how much faster they will learn, how much faster they will be able to build associations during fight: how each class looks like skill-wise, what it’s capable of etc.

Imagine how much clearer and easier to read combat would become for players and viewers (especially those who are not all that familiar with every aspect of GW2’s PvP), for spectators and shoutcasters, if GW2 had all those things: sound and visual tells, skill floaters, proper particle system.

Now, personally i’am very skeptical that AN will and can fix #1 here — their particle system, clean it up and tone it down. But they certainly could work on #2 and #3, and that would improve everyone’s experience with this game by a lot.
