North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.
“I knew it, I’m surrounded by…” – Dark Helmet
This needs to be given some more light.
Today, ArenaNet announced some sweeping changes to World vs. World in Guild Wars 2. We caught up with GG (Grant Gertz – Producer) and MB (Mckenna Berdrow – Game Designer) to chat about all the new stuff coming in the update (which was blogged about here), and beyond. Read and enjoy!
MMORPG: Some squads are Guild raids, and although a guild might have multiple commanders, only one is ever tagged up. Will there be any way for them to gain the commander bonus as well, whilst retaining the benefits like targeting and visibility that come from being in a squad together?
MB: We don’t have any plans for providing alternate ways of acquiring the commander bonus aside from actually commanding a squad. Squads and commanders are both great tools to organize a world for total domination in WvW. Both provide an important and positive influence, but being a great commander was something that we wanted to reinforce. Commanders are a critical part of the world bond that other players rally around and usually know by in-game name. With the commander bonus, we hope this brings out more commanders and that their positive impact is felt across WvW.
MMORPG: The question on everyone’s mind- with this update- the most important way to get your rewards is to win. Besides a short term lock out from rewards, are there any long term incentives to stop bandwagoning and server stacking?
GG: Winning will always help, but with the personal skirmish rewards, the important part is being active in World vs World. There are ways to earn additional progress regardless of your team’s War Score.
MB: We incentivize winning by awarding pips for victory, you can also earn pips in other ways, like commanding, playing on an outnumbered map (which is less likely to happen if you are on a stacked server), or having a high WvW rank.
However, it’s also important to keep in mind that you get the pips every tick and the winning pips are awarded based on War Score and not Skirmish Points. Every two hours, everyone’s War Score is set back to zero, and who is winning could change every tick, making a stacked world less likely to constantly win.
We want to make the moment-to-moment score feel exciting and important as a balance to the overall match score, so that players can focus on doing their best during their play session and over the course of the match. Since the rewards aren’t for winning matchups but instead focus on winning moment-to-moment, being on a stacked server is not as beneficial.
MMORPG: Will players who have transferred, either to be with new guilds or friends before this update, be locked out from rewards? On that note, what about players who transfer after this blog post but before the update hits the servers?
MB: You have to be on a world for an entire match to be eligible for skirmish rewards. That means if you transferred on Thursday, you would have to remain on that world the next day, Friday, and the entirety of the match that started on Friday to start earning skirmish rewards in the match after that. Therefore, any players who have transferred after the 26th will not be eligible for Skirmish rewards until they have been on that world for an entire match.
These transfer restrictions are important because we want to incentivize world loyalty and community.

“If you’ve been playing on the same world for at least three weeks.” Maybe give reward if you have played on the same world for at least three years? 3 weeks really? What kind of bandwagoner haven’t played in same server at least 6 months?

I have never purchased an Ascended Trinket with Unbound Magic (not my thing, I prefer Nodes and Minis). Yet, strangely enough, many of my characters wear Ascended Trinkets. How is this possible?
We’ve not had many balanced matchups for the last few months. Two teams in a tier might be close, but a close three way is almost never seen.
1 up 1 down is not a great solution, but glicko rankings that mean nothing to tier placement isn’t working either.
Current WvW LFG process.
If you are in a guild that raids, ask in TS “what map” port to map, or if you are waiting for TS to load, check in guild roster which map everyone else is on then port to map. Join squad.
If you are not in a guild that raids but want to be part of a zerg. Either choose Blue/Green BL (Choose BL of the server that isn’t dominating), or EBG, look for pin, head for pin. Join squad.
If you are a roamer, go to Red BL. Type in map chat “anyone else here?”
I am not sure that we need defense to be more active than is already the case. I think that there are players out there that want the passive defensive cushion that they currently can get out of toughness.
It’s true that people complain about change — that’s human nature.
However, I don’t see that there’s an issue that needs to be addressed here and I’m not sure that your suggestion would have the impact you hope for. Toughness already gets used for various purposes now. It’s even useful in PvE for players that are less comfortable going ‘glass’ with optimized builds for DPS that require excellent active defense.

World vs. World—June 6
Updates to World vs. World will include improved LFG, new rewards, and skirmishing updates! We’re making sure skirmishing in WvW is fun and rewarding with an updated UI and new rewards. Keep an eye on the blog and release highlights in the next few days for more information.
Cool new rewards !!!
Siege Commander Track – “the remaining cutlery have been added to the game.”
Now u can eat your condi food as intended.
TC’s currently in a recovery and rebuilding process at the moment, but our goal is exactly what you’re describing as what you’d like to find. We’ve always been very open to militia commanders, and generally always want more of them.
what about them 6 second pally stuns
Over the years of playing this game I talked to a bunch of people about the changes we’d like to see in game. A lot of people mentioned quality of life things, such as having a way to organize all your gizmos (tonics, balloons, instruments…) and preview certain things in game, for example auras. Not to mention the almost weekly “We need a key-ring! threads”.
The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of organization in the social tab. Friends list has all kinds of things wrong with it, and LFG being in the middle of it isn’t exactly intuitive.
The hero tab is way too cluttered. Gliders, minis and mail carriers have no business being in the middle of equipment.
Wardrobe is such a huge part of the game, it deserves its own tab, in the top left corner of the screen.
Achievements and masteries are also tucked in the Hero panel, but they’re account wide, so it would also make more sense for them to join the wardrobe in the top left corner.
That’s why I decided to do a little bit of Photoshopping. I’m not an expert at it by any means but I decided to have a little fun with it and visualize the changes that I’d like to happen.
What do you guys think?
i.e. Forget what exists and make a new system. That’s how development goes with Guild Wars 2, if you hadn’t noticed.
Development by accretion its a clear philosophy from anet and a poor one. There’s a good extra credits episode on it.
Googled it, thanks.

They sell a tonic for karma that reduces the size of your character and still lets them fight. It’s perfect for a norn in that room. I highly recommend it.
The true answer is people complained.
People complained that the only viable build is berserker.
The fastest and only viable way to kill the harpies/boar/centaur/guards was berserker. There were no build diversity and stack → LoS → spam attack is all you need in WvW.
It was such dark times when there were no build diversity in WvW.
So they buffed condi and fixed WvW
Sorry to disappoint you, but no. Every character that has 4 years and 364 days will be permanently deleted and you have to start over again. A fifth birthday is not allowed!
That’s fine. I just deleted 7 of 9 classes (including the thief I made the day the servers went live) most of whom already got their 4th birthday stuff so I could “fix” random things I didn’t like about them.
It’s one way to artificially create more content to do.
I know, right? That’s just cold. ALT LIVES MATTER
After that he was sent to sit on the group W bench. And there was all kinds of mean nasty ugly, looking people on the bench there. And the meanest, ugliest, nastiest one there was coming over to him and he was mean ‘n’ ugly ‘n’ nasty ‘n’ horrible and all kind of things and he sat down next to him, And he said, “Kid. What are you here for?” And he answered, “I deleted some alts in a video game”
and they all moved away from him on the bench.
Lol! I was lurking, but I had to login to +1 this.
I guess I must be odd, but I’ve always levelled like this. I never gear anyone properly until they’re 80. until then they get whatever drops as long as its better than what they had before.
I seriously enjoy it. every single time
Can we make it possible to add chaos gloves transmog on top of the outfits you buy from the gem store? For example I would love to have the monk outfit together with chaos gloves just for the nostalgia of my old guild wars 1 account.
Unfortunately, it won’t be possible without a major change to the software. Outfits are deliberately designed to be simpler to design+QA — that’s why we can’t mix any armor pieces with them at all.
