The in city swiftness effect granted by this mastery track has stopped functioning with one of the most recent updates. The normal swiftness particle effects are still there, but the actual function of moving faster is no longer working. Please fix this.

Why am I crafting precursors?

It’s very saddening for me to come to this revelation. I don’t understand what’s going on. Everything that has been implemented since the expansion has completely stabbed everyone in the back. Ascended crafting has practically tripled in cost; we now have to salvage multiple pieces of those pricey gears for a ball of dark energy for a collection or three.

They talk of keeping Legendary stats the same as ascended because they don’t believe in the “new tier of gear,” yet they practically contradict themselves directly by successfully draining gold and items from the economy and then requiring additional gold and items to be spent on gear that has always been available.

Hate to turn this thread into a bash HoT one, so I’ll stop. Thanks four your input, and I’ll know not to look at another precursor collection. I halfway want to drop Colossus but since I’ve already spent this much on it -.-.

You’re a trailblazer.

Thank you for posting that and doing what needed to be done. We should all float you some gold as a thank you. Seriously, no sarcasm intended. I had looked into precursor crafting, but wanted to research it a bit and get feedback from someone who had done it. Your comments reinforced my initial thoughts that it was, ultimately, a gold sink.

It hit me. As I’m now crafting my 2nd precursor, Colossus, I realized how stupid I’ve been. My first precursor crafted was Howl, which only required a fair 8 or so Spiritwood planks and equal amount of Deldrimor. It roughly equated to it’s precursor price on the TP.

However, with the Colossus, I am now around 70% through completing only the second tier of the collection, and I’ve seen that I’ve now spent over 700g (and I’m not even finished) worth of items, to craft a precursor that is currently 600g on the tp.

I don’t have the exact numbers because I’ve forgotten and didn’t take note, but let’s start with what I do know: The legendary inscription alone asks for 10 Elonian Leather Squares, averagely valued at 12g (was 15g when I started the collection). Our total currently stands at 120g worth of items spent. Next, the first experimental weapon asked for 10 Spiritwood Planks and 15 Deldrimor Steel. 10 Spiritwood are averagely valued at over 15g (150g) . 15 Deldrimor steel, valued at 9g, (135g)

Our current total is 405g. Next, the 2nd tier asks for 5 more Deldrimor steel (or was it 10?) That’s another 45g — 450g. After that, it requires 15 more Deldrimor Steel; our total is now 585g. It’s also going to ask for more spiritwood I’m 100% sure for the Large Hammer Haft requisition, which is most likely going to be 10 more spiritwood. My total is now effectively 735g.

Only about 50g over Colossus’ average price, fair enough — I get AP as well. Wait a minute, I forgot to factor in the 1,000 or more Elder Wood Planks (not logs) and 2,000 Mithril Ingots (not ore). I’ll just go ahead and top the price to 900g even though I’m far sure that the price exceeds 900g. Factor in the time spent hunting for the collection items; money spent using WPs to get those collections as well as things like 25 Stabilizing Matrices, 25 Passion Flowers (almost 30g alone), 1k Bandit Crests (how much are 1,000 bandit crests worth if you translate it into time spent? and 400 Geodes. Yes, you can get those for mapping Dry Top and Silverwaste now, but that is still time spent.

Let’s make the total 1,000 gold minimum. I’m not even on the third tier yet, and hopefully if its like the Howler, it doesn’t ask for an unreasonable amount of items. Now I ask the question, why am I crafting the precursor? I could save 100g if I custom-ordered everything, sure; it doesn’t change the fact that crafting it is extremely overpriced.

This relates to buying as well as farming the items required, because either way, you’re spending something. I found it was quicker to farm something and sell, then buy what I need, than to actually farm what I need (which is horrible, because it’s sapping the already elusive gold from my wallet).

I don’t appreciate this giant resource sink when, in the end, I come out dumber than I was when I started because I somehow thought I was saving money by crafting it myself. Now, new legendaries come out requiring even more? (The first tier of HOPE asks for 5 bolt of damask — not for the experimental weapon, but for something to cover a jar of honey with. Wtf, are you serious? Not even from a lore standpoint does this make a lick of sense.)

Of course items are inflated right now because everyone wants this stuff, but now Legendary armor is coming out and is going to require even more silk and leather than is already in too-high demand.

What is the point of crafting the precursors at all? Even if I had loads of materials saved up to where I didn’t need to buy anything, all of it would be gone when I finished one precursor that apparently wasn’t an offhand.

This has made me seriously agitated as I’ve roughly calculated how much money I threw away that could have been spent on T6 materials or things needed for the actual legendary and not the precursor.

I don’t understand how everything seems to have been aimed at re-designing the economy; it’s not very smart to make drastic sinks and changes into an already-established economy whatsoever.

There is no point. Player demand for precursor crafting was based around the idea of a substitute for gold and RNG that would involve a lengthy set of quests instead. Somewhere along the way, Anet decided to bring in some armchair economists to muddle it up and make it not worthwhile.

In short, precursor crafting in its current implementation is a total bust. You’re completely better off in most cases with just farming the gold and buying the precursor off of the TP, which is what I ended up doing with Flameseeker Prophecies. I feel much better off than I would have going through with a dumb expensive timegated system.

If you completed it once with one char and got nothing, why would you attempt it again until its sorted hehe.

But yes i hope they fix this, anyone with 100% map completion gets nothing from new maps or southsun, silverwastes or drytop.

100 Replies on this post and Anet still no response, please, at least say us something like “we are aware”…

They have responded to anyone who has entered a ticket via the support system. They are aware of the bug, there’s no ETA for a fix, and the rewards will be retroactively applied.

There just isn’t enough time in the day for devs to post in every thread that might ‘deserve’ a response. (And there would be more such threads if they tried to respond more often, since folks would tend to expect it.)

Keep in mind that if something was easy to fix, the dev team would love to make it happen, if for no other reason than it would put an end to threads like this.

Are you suggesting that the user base should not post bug reports in the bugs forum? Interesting take on the issue.

Do I expect the devs to respond to every post in this forum? No. But when a post has this many replies, it warrants attention. This bug is a progress blocking bug for anyone trying to complete the specialization collections. It’s not just about the rewards.

One simple post acknowledging the bug could prevent dozens of individual trouble tickets being submitted. Which is a larger drain on resources?

The way i see it it’s a vocal minority elitist trying to make the game cater for them.
if you want a pure hardcore game then this game is not for you.

In what univserse does having to take time to do something equals a challenge?

Driving a formula 1 car around a track for one lap is a challenge.

Driving a toyota on a 10 hour car journey is a chore.

That depends. If you’re driving your Toyota through beautiful scenary and stopping off at nice places on the way, it’s not so much of a chore……. Hot works in pretty much the same way.

My Toyota kept running into road blocks with a big sign saying “not enough mastery”. ….

I dont even have a Problem with the difficulty i like hard games i played the souls game like crazy all the way to new game +7 its more like the maps are empty as kitten after 2 days ???? and the events i mean yea you can do them solo like every event will take you 30 minutes wohooooo fun….

I dont have a Problem with grind either i playe Silkroad Online if anyone knows what game this is you know what really grind is.

But the Problem is here you guys say hey take it as you would level in any other mmorpg ok np but atleast in every other mmorpg there where people to play with and not ONLY group content this is what is kittening me off so much because the core game wasnt like this at all.

OH and to all the fanboys Anet could kitten and kitten in your mouth and you would still find a good reason why they had to.

+1 everyone. Why is a map that requires having tons of people around so empty? Why can’t I find anyone for champion challenges? Why do I have to farm in a train for like 40 hours to get masteries required for elite spec that I need at the beginning to begin with?

Poor game design, very poor game design.

This is what I feel as well, its as thou they created a new game rather then continue the old one. From casual solo to hardcore group oriented.

You haven’t seen “hardcore” then. New maps are group oriented casual. If they are too hard for you – get better. Or play older maps, cuz they are easy and designed for solo play. Me, my guild, all my friends – we waited all this time for harder group oriented content. And now we are finally enjoying it!

Compared what the core game prepared me to while doing my personal story? yes, it’s hardcore. I would play older maps if I could get my elite specs from there, but I can’t because of the ridicule amount of HPs needed.

I agree the elitist minority is loving this expansion, the casual players not so much.

Don’t believe me check the HOT Metacritic review, a 3.9 says the majority is not as happy.

Just a correction. Zerging has nothing to do with elitist. They both suck but in a different way. HoT content is zergy. That’s it. No skills required.

I said that because the majority of “tips” being given about people not being able to solo HOT is “Git Gud” and other variations of that.

That’s exactly what i am saying

With all due respect, isnt that what Fractals and dungeons are? Group content?
Anet designed this game to be a little bit for everyone: guilds, groups, solo, etc. If you want group content, go to fractals or dungeons. Open world should be for everyone. Difficult? yes, but not impossible to do solo.

Thats my disappointment with HoT. All solo folks had was open world. they cannot solo dungeons or fractals. Now with HoT, anet said dungeons and fractals does not provide enough group content. So rather than address that issue for the groups, let’s tell the solo folks to go play some other game and we will tailor the whole game towards large groups. In my opinion, they should have released awesome new group content like new dungeons/fractals/etc. and let the solo folks have SOMETHING to enjoy in HoT.

Look at Hot objectively: they obliterated open world solo play. They just about destroyed small group roaming for WvW. They told small guilds to buck up and join larger guilds to enjoy guild content. Its the ‘zerg’ mentality. Anet’s idea of making things more difficult is making it require more people, rather than creative ways to make it more difficult.

My baseline for being able to solo my way thru GW2 is .. GW2 itself. I can solo my way thru from level 1 to level 80, no problem. I grabbed all the Hero Points necessary for me to unlock my class abilities, all solo.

New expansion pack called “Heart of Thorns” gets announced, and I’m intrigued. New Elite Specs? I’m EXCITED! I could NOT wait, I was very eager and happy.

Now that I’ve spent the better part of three days in “Heart of Thorns”, I have to say that I am confused and a bit disappointed. The over all difference in design philosophy is so drastically different that it caused a bit of ‘culture shock’ for me, and I’m still trying to figure out exactly why they changed it so dramatically.

Gee, I guess Anet forgot to tell you, end game (HoT) is all about group content (Raids, PvP, Fractals, Guilds, etc), casual PVE is Dead going forward.

GW2 Just went from a mainly casual PVE, to a group play game with this expansion, Some one wanted to put the Guild back into Guild Wars.

Funny, how they forget to tell every one!!

Yes, from what I have been reading the people that mainline jold and play everything hardcore 24/7 love this stuff. I was only convinced to try GW2 because it had something for everyone, including us casuals. Or should I say ‘used to have’?

I am not interested in doing jumping puzzles and such. They are here for those that want them, great. Just do not make those of us that are not spending our time here doing JPs do them now.

I have to agree with the “This expansion is not solo-player friendly” sentiments. Despite great exotic gear (no ascended stuff, sorry) and an extremely solid spec across two different classes, I am getting my butt handed to me by the normal ‘trash mobs’.

Herds of Pocket Raptors can 2 shot me within the first 3 seconds of a fight. Mordrem Guard / corrupted Sylvari can easily 1 shot me. The Champs that get summoned at the Hero Challenge locations? Even more impossible to deal with.

To make matters worse, the exact same build and gear I was using pre-expansion in the old world is now failing to get me thru some of the same fights I could previously waltz thru with ease. Yes I will state that so far I’ve been a tad disappointed in the expansion, but my greater concern right now is trying to figure out why my Engineer suddenly can’t solo the old world stuff he could before.

I just went tried to farm some events to get my Exalted Lore for the next story mission (story gating sucks btw).

Turned out it was impossible. Apparantly I was the only one doing events, I found events all over the map but there was not a single player doing them. And since soloing them is nigh impossible as most are scaled for entire armies, it was virtually impossible to progress.

This is going to be quite a big problem when most of the players are done with HoT and new players find themselves in near empty maps. Anet seriously needs to rethink event scaling in HoT.

The whole “group events” for Hero Challenges sounds like a mistake. HC’s are “one-and-done” content, unlike repeatable content fueled by random desirable drops or incremental rewards. Once the initial burst of players have their HC’s done, what happens to the late adopters, the people working on their 3rd alt, and those who took their time for whatever reason? One-and-done content that gates mechanics needs to be accessible throughout its lifespan.
