HoT new character select screen?

what are the chances of this?

during the last beta weekend we had different music in the main menu and even that felt kind of exciting and refreshing. It would be cool to as well have a brand new character select screen when the expansion hits. I’m thinking darker colors, dark brown, black, lots of green and vines strewn about everywhere. What do you think?

Use all of your influence now, because new guild currencies doesnt include it. You can transfer some of it into one of the new currencies, but i dont think it will be anything major.

I’m less interested in what other players think will happen than in knowing what ANet plans to happen. I have no way of knowing what you consider “major”. I have no way of knowing how much “some of it” amounts to, or whether the amount of influence we have now is over or under the limit you think will be convertible. I have no way of knowing whether being able to convert “some” influence to new currencies later will work out better for us than spending it all on unlocks now. I’m not sure how you know we won’t be able to buy anything with these new currencies that we will prefer over the things we can unlock now, or that the new currencies will not be harder for us to earn than the influence we already have accumulated.

I would rather base my actions on facts and numbers than on airy hand-waving based on vague, undefined terms.

As leader of a very small guild, I need to know whether I should be spending influence now on unlocks (some of which take a week to complete) and which unlocks will benefit us the most. How much influence should I be holding back for the things it will be harder for smaller guilds to earn?. If we only get this information a few days before launch, it may be too late for me to do whatever needs to be done to get my guild ready. We need time for planning, discussion, and execution.

This is same as complaining why raids need 10 people and why can’t they be soloed or 2-3 manned (nobody actually complained yet, but you get my drift).
Point of guild quests/events is that more people gather to do guild related stuff to advance the guild. If you choose to have guild with 20 active players, few online at a time then that comes at a cost. Cost being harder guild advancment and sometimes not being able to do all stuff bigger guilds can. You can’t compare your guild to a guild that has 200 active members and demand equality. Big guilds are harder to manage and in return some benefits must come from that. It’s harsh but it how it is and how it’s fair. Otherwise, everyone would make small guild and easily grab all the rewards that come with it.

you are incorrect in your comparison.

I am also in a small guild, very small PVX guild which is WvW focused.

Point is, in a WVW focused guild you HAVE TO HAVE WvW upgrades going which is possible and doable within the current system of influence.

But to our understanding, after HOT launches, we will have to have a guild hall and continuously obtain the new currency in order to maintain WVW effectiveness.

We do not need to raid for armor, only those of us that want the new legendary armors will go after them and they are not necessary for WVW, but the WVW upgrades are.

So a better comparison would be that we will have to do PVE raids in order to maintain the WVW upgrades (regardless wether those raids are guild missions or new upcoming raids in HOT). That is the issue.

Your guild is probably going to be ok, but guilds smaller than yours are going to lose a big source of their guild commendations when guild challenges are locked behind instances (whereas currently several guilds can collaborate).

While I respect and understand what you’re saying about only needing a few members to do missions. The bottom line still is…my WvW guild will NOT ever run guild missions and that we are appalled that ANET would force us to complete them in order to get our guild hall outfitted with things like the War Room and Private Arena.

By requiring you to complete them for favor this forces players into being pigeon-holed to complete something that we don’t want to do in order to get our GH. So I still am sticking to my opinion that at least influence was fair. Yes you could buy it for gold but simply remove that option if you want it to be more important.

Ele and Engi weapon swap

The main problem of a similar fix is that when you’re OOC in a sPvP Tournament match you will be allowed to swap weapon.
Is like if a class that is not a engi ro a ele will be able to go OOC and change all it’s defensive weapons with dps weapons to readapt to the current tournament.

What if a cele ele will be able during a tournament to change from melee D/D to Staff to be able to make more AoE damage/support in the mid why the team don’t need it as a melee in the fight?
That will change completly the situation.

Engis and eles (expecially eles) can obtain a incredible amount of skills just swapping attunement or equipping a kit.

Eles can’t change between melee or range, but in range have a large amount of AoE to fight also in melee and in melee have a large amount of movement and fedensive skills to fight also against ranged enemies.
Engis can simply use they’re ranged weapons, that work very well also in melee (expecially the rifle with all it’s bleed/CC that work better in close range than in long range) and if they need a melee or a defence swap to other kits, expecially if they need ranged AoE they can swap to granade or melee AoE to mines.

And what’s all that problem about open for a moment the inventary, double-click on the weapon and equip it? You take more or less 3 seconds to do that!

I really think that there’s no need or a fix like a OOC weapon swap for eles and engis and that will only make troubles to fix it between pve/www and sPvP.

You do realize that they can already do this, right? By opening the hero panel and swapping. What’s so horrible about a QOL change?

And I’d be open to allowing other classes to swap out of combat as well to another set of weapons. So warriors can switch from GS/sword/axe to LB/mace/mace.

I posted something about this some time ago as well. We really ought to be able to have a storage area for weapons that’s separate from our bags.
I mean, how many high end groups demand scepter/dagger then staff swap already? The absence of a swap function is somewhat silly.
I totally agree with Seera and Aceboogie about it. We’re constantly having to fish around through bags full of junk for our weapons in PvE. In WvW I don’t really see the functionality being that important, but in PvE the absence of the weapon swap on either class can get a little irritating. Especially on the Engineer now that we’re getting this hammer bit. I tried the hammer today and constantly thought, "I’d really like my pistol in this situation. The hammer is great, actually, but there’s no way to back off and heal while still staying in the fight.

I know what the OP said. Ele’s are F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C right now, and have zero need for a weapon swap anywhere. You have twenty skills on a weapon.

TWENTY.

O-U-T O-F C-O-M-B-A-T

Did you miss that part of the original post? They aren’t asking for in combat weapon swapping. Just out of combat weapon swapping. Asking for a QOL change, nothing more, nothing less.

I would love this, but it will make it a little unfair to the other classes. Elementals can switch to 4 sets of moves with the press of the f keys so that would make it a total of 40 if there was a weapon swap. The engineers has kits which can make it to 20 moves. For this to be fair they would have to give the other classes at least 1 more set of weapons on swap. If that happens the new complaint would be elementals and engineers would need a 3rd set as well. Anet will never win in whatever they decide to do.

Engineer would be more tbh.

weapon swap: 10
6-0 slots for kits(5×5, med kit heal/mortor kit elite): 25
f1-f5: 5

So Engineer would also be 40 skills, technically.
But as it stands, Engineer is only able to have 35 without weapon swap.. o.o

Both of you.

The OP said out of combat. Which means, not fighting, so no extra skills. (And you can’t just back up a couple of steps and be out of combat. Whatever you’re fighting has to be dead or no longer actively trying to reach you and you can’t have any conditions on you or your health not yet regenerated).

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Now this a a dicey topic, as we all know that engineers and Elementalist would be OP with a weapon swap in combat. but I don’t give a rat’s kitten about that. What I want is that Engineers especially, but Elementalists too, be allowed to have a weapon swap for when they are outside of combat. use the mechanism as every other class, except they cant switch in combat. I want to be able to thrash a foe, with my hammer, then go trotting off, switching to my rifle, without having to open my inventory.

People have got to stop complaining about this, it’s really self-centered. They want to get people who want challenging content more excited about the game – they have to create that content to get those people in. Those people like restrictions like gear and they like the requirement of a well coordinated group. If you don’t, I’m sorry, enjoy the rest of it. That’s all there is to it. They’re not going to build their game exactly the way that you and people like you want, they’re going to build it to get the most players and to please the most players. They’re not interested in making you feel left out anymore than they are people who can raid, thus they put in things for players like you too. What you want is for ALL of the content to be made just to your standards, and not any other players. Don’t pretend that real estate in the game is somehow limited either. There’s still the Crystal Desert, there’s still Cantha, and there’s the literally unlimited Mists and whole other worlds. The idea that your this infuriated because not every single feature or bit of content in the expac is something you want just blows my mind, especially if you do play casually in which case you’ll probably never experience all of the content or will experience it much slower than everyone else anyway.

I don’t like having to grind boring dynamic events to level them up in Heart of Thorns.

Same here. Had to do so much grinding to get the Gliding. But once I got it, I was in absolute love with it. But dear god did it take a while to get. :/

masteries points seem to have been removed/disabled in BWE#3. i ran into a few in BWE#2. some which required gliding

i cant remember what those mastery points done. the mastery UI was very confusing for me in BWE#2. kept saying i had all these points but didnt know how to use them

That’s a good point. I just think enough points should be earned on the first story mission to unlock gliding tier 1 at the point you enter the map.

Speaking of masteries…
Currently, for balance and variety in the game, racial skills have been weakened to the point of almost always being avoided. I understand that they do not want only Asura or Norn or any other race to become too common compared to others. To avoid this and allow racial skills to be fun and useful I have a proposal. As HoT introduces quests for skills such as gliding as well as precursors for legendaries, why not create quest lines allowing learning the racial skills of other races. For instance, an Asuran character could do quests to help the Charr and as his favor increases with them, they progressively teach the Asuran their own racial skills. This will allow a rebalancing through questing while having pre-known skills from your own race. This is similar to what many loved in GW1 when all could learn Raven transformation or pain inverter. It would also allow the developers to create re-skins if they wish for new appearances of across species transformation. If they do not wish to add too much work into this, an aura equivalent could also be tested. I just recently found out from my brother as I write this that Wooden Potatoes had a similar suggestion.
Thank you for your time and enjoy the great gaming!

This is a fantastic idea. Possibly just a mastery track for each race which, once completed, unlocks that race’s racial skills for all of your level 80 characters. Would be a relatively easy way for Anet to increase the amount of end game progression and would allow racial skills to be balanced to be meaningful without forcing players into particular race/profession combos. It’s pure upside.

Honestly it seems like the mastery tracks are pretty easy to fill up, especially if you do events like the wyvern (seriously, if you succeed at that, you gain a TON of experience). Admittedly it can feel a bit grindy (especially since we’re only seeing a fraction of the available content), but with 3 more maps incoming besides verdant brink, the feeling of grind should feel much less so when you have the other maps available. I also have noticed that the testing area isn’t actually our introduction into the heart of the maguuma. It’s the area we see in the story introduction (which, i don’t know if it’s by accident, but i found the waypoint on the map and couldn’t teleport to it). So maybe the initial area that we dive into will give us the necessary experience to obtain atleast the gliding mastery.

I’m optimistic. The story area didn’t seem to need masteries of any sort (though it’s way too small to accurately judge and it’s in story mode, so the masteries wouldn’t be required regardless), so i think things will be okay.

I do agree with kevoros that masteries are the way to go, but perhaps a good compromise would be having the initial gliding track and the bouncing shrooms tracks be of a lower experience value to get us on the road faster, with other experience tracks taking a little more experience. I dunno, just a suggestion.

REAVERS are men driven crazy that live at the edges of the border planets in the show Firefly. And no, they are not awesome. They will kitten you to death, eat your flesh, and sew your skin into their clothing. And if you’re really really lucky, they’ll do it in that order.

REAPERS are the elite profession you’re looking for in Guild Wars 2.

1. I didn’t really like Revenant.

I love Revenant. I totally understand what you mean, though. If you see a Revenant you instantly know half of the entire story. You see its weapons set so you know half its weapon skills and you see the color of the glow on its hands and now you know half of all of its utility skills. If its a herald you even know what skills its running at a glance because of the circle on the ground.

It would be nice if there could be one or two extra utilities per legend such that we have at least a little more customization.

2. all of the content I have seen so far is intended for groups of 3 players and more.

I’m unclear what you’re getting at here. There are only three kinds of content with HoT. Personal Story, which is soloable. Open World which some of is actually soloable and you could definitely do with two people, but since it’s open there are going to be enough people to complete it. Raids, which really are what they need to be, and if you can’t participate in them, then that’s how it is. I don’t get to Raid, cause I’m just me and I don’t care enough to join a guild.

3. the super Mario brothers syndrome.

MMOs are not designed for outliers, and social misfits. .

I agree. Games based around giving up large quantities of your time to advance in a computer generated world where you have no face to face interaction with anyone else, are so not designed for social misfits.
