OK, its a Zerg Fest, OK, its a grind event fest, OK, lots of overflows, OK lots of bugs.
BUT THIS IS AWESOME!!!!
Grindy zergfests with overflow problems and lots of bugs (not to mention dealing with horrible FPS in the events despite having a powerful PC) equals not fun for me.
But to each their own.
Ive mained a ranger for nearly a year.
They suck compared to almost every class in every department. Its not bad player mentality when the majority of our skills are rediculously inferior to similar skills for other classes. Nor bad player mentality that the traits are badly placed and badly designed. And its certainly not bad player mentality that our class mechanic can rendered useless for minutes at a time when no other class suffers the same handicap. And no other class has its normal outgoing damage shunted on to the class mechanic making our character weaker than every other class AS STANDARD.
The fact that it takes highly skilled players using specific builds for sPvP to make them “workable” in that mode alone doesn’t make them a good class, far from it.
No matter what way you slice it, rangers are very “buggy” because the design is flawed in its execution.
You want to know what the biggest bug is? That everyday I see a post on your forums that rangers are the weakest class, and above all my guild and everyone on my server thinks the exact same thing. It kittenes me off that every warrior I see has the ability to say “I can defeat every ranger possible”, it makes me angry to see that every ranger in my guild has switched to warrior, and it definitely isn’t a ranger’s fault. EVERY RANGER IN MY GUILD IS SWITCHING AND PEOPLE KEEP GETTING KICKED FROM A DUNGEON PARTY FOR BEING A RANGER! AND QUITE FRANKLY IT’S kittenING ME OFF! THAT’S THE BIGGEST BUG IN THE GAME.
This bug can fail the whole Marionette event for hundreds of people when they head onto the platforms and can’t help out at all.
I saw a number of people complaining in chat.
this is a lag problem. you need highspeed internet not slow speed posing as high speed. 5mb+ /ps at minimum preferably 10mb+/ps
Numerous people have already explained and proven that this has nothing to do with lag.
Can we get a dev to post about this? This bug is very game breaking and is ruining my GW2 exp. You have to down/die to fix this issue and it really needs to be fixed asap!
Same thing happened last night to my girlfriend during the Marionette event. She was fighting and suddenly lost her ability to use most of her skills. Strangely enough she could use her F keys and number 7 and 8 abilities but the rest wouldn’t work. When you click then it shows being depressed but no actions happens.
We haven’t mentioned anything before as its only happened a couple times but now to see it being a bigger problem others are having so hopefully Anet will take a look at what might be happening.
Twice out of the four times I did the marionette Meta event this happened on my ranger and could only fix with a death or WP.
Bloody annoying.
I had a feeling there was already a topic on this. Although this has happened to me occassionally in the past, it usually could be fixed my weapon-swapping from the hero panel. Today however, that didn’t work and happened to me on three occassions during the large-scale living story events; twice on my ranger and once on my warrior. I am bound to encounter this again, so I’ll try the waypointing or fall damage tricks; much better than relogging and missing and losing at least 15 minutes of effort.
Interestingly, during the marionette event, I hopped into a golem while bugged and was able to use it’s shield skill, while I couldn’t use any of the other skills. But of course, I couldn’t leave the golem because the #5 skill doesn’t work.
Quite frequently I’ll be in the middle of a fight and then suddenly none of my skills will work.
I can select them, and the UI displays a ‘button click’ animation. But nothing happens. All of them just stop working.
The only way to get them working again is to get downed and rezzed, waypoint to somewhere, or to relog.
This is apparently really common for other people too – to the point where I’ll say in chat “argh my skills aren’t working” and whoever I’m with will reply “Oh I hate that bug – so annoying – just try to get downed and that will fix it”.
And it is massively annoying as it usually happens for me in the middle of a boss fight or guild event where my non-participation earns me a bronze instead of gold.
I have to wait 2 hours for the event to spawn… fine I can at least sit here and read a book while I afk.
We have to defend the 5 portals… still fine, good teamwork and coordination but nothing too tricky.
But if there is a single level 20 who doesn’t even know how to dodge let alone kill a champ… the entire event fails and I have to wait another 2 hours?
That is just absurd. How can you possibly think that a zone wide event should be entirely dependent on a group of 4 level 10’s who don’t even know how to auto attack? I finished my champ in 30 seconds and had to sit there and watch for a full 90 seconds as this group of level 20’s did no damage and just ran in circles. I could have killed all 5 champs in that time. But nope, whole zone failed because of that group.
At the very least allow us to jump over to another circle once we finish our own. If you want to make a raid where each individual has to pass a competency test that would be great, but this is an open world event and random noobs can just walk in and fail the entire zone.
tldr; lvl 10 noobs shouldn’t be able to fail an entire zone because they suck.
Nice they added hard core content, but frankly the only reason why ANYONE plays an MMO is for the instant gratification that is the reward for their effort.
So far, I’m not impressed. The chests that drop for the event don’t have silver in them, only one green item, and a bag full of useless tokens that combine for some mysterious purpose no one has figured out yet that I have heard.
Hard content should have equally good rewards, GW2 cannot get the idea that risk vs reward is what’s making the game such a let down since they started upping the difficulty. They make insane events you stand around two hours for only to get wiped and the trash doesn’t even drop anything worth selling because its account bound. Idiotic.
I have to agree to an extent, players put in the effort to kill bosses for the experience, the reward/ sense of accomplishment. So the experience revolves around the bosses design itself which is hopefully challenging without being frustrating, while the rewards are usually something unique or distinctive that is representative of your accomplishment like a skin, title or the like in the place of something like that players have come to expect some sort of monetary reward.
So given how ArenaNet is moving towards bosses where the best rewards are very RNG oriented, leaving some fairly lackluster achievement rewards and monetary gains it’s kind of understandable players are disappointed in what they’re offered.
But I guess it all comes down to 1.) the fundamental disconnection ArenaNet has with their playerbase that prevents them from understanding what players actually want and 2.) ArenaNet trying to add grinding to a game that was intended to be anti-grind
Greetings and salutations.
I come to you today with a comment about the Living Story’s direction, though I know those are in abundance these days. What I’d like to do is hopefully a bit different. I would like to describe what the game would need to do in order to smoothly transition back to the war against the dragons. At present, that is impossible due to an incompatibility between players starting the Personal Story and those who have finished it, and conundrum which can be solved in a single sentence.
To make the Living Story flourish, the Pact must be destroyed.
…Bit of an attention getter, I hope. Allow me to spell on the argument; why the personal story has impersonal problems, what the living story is currently doing wrong, how to fix the two to the benefit of both, and what the results could be for an entire year’s worth of content. I can be a bit overly verbose, so I’ve condensed them into four JPG files for easier reading. Feel free to skip through it if it drags on, but please scroll through the NextYear file to consider what the Living Story could become.
Here we go. The Time Capsule method.
Edit: I’ve been adding to this post slowly throughout the thread, including several new campaign possibilities. For the sake of organization, I’ve added them on to this post. If this is your first time reading this, please beware, the last three images will get extremely verbose. Bring a glass of tea.

I wonder, if it were the opposite, with two male leads to every female lead, if anyone would notice, or if we’d just take it as “normal?”
Or you don’t know how much you really aren’t relating to male characters as much as you think you do.
My favorite TV show is The Venture Brothers. Out of a cast of dozens of characters, probably close to 90 to 95% are male. Yet I have no problem relating to them as people or enjoying the show.
Most video games that don’t have a gender option are male-character-only. Plenty of women play and enjoy the Grand Theft Auto series, as just one of many examples. Do you have issues playing Tomb Raider?
I’m just wondering, where are the male/male pairings? Correctly me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I’ve seen a single one in this game. Lesbians are cool but gay guys are icky, is that supposed to be the gist?
I would definitely like to see a male/male pair as lead characters, although I wouldn’t want them to be gay just for the sake of having gay characters. So far GW2 has been really good about portraying homosexual relationships. Caithe isn’t a token lesbian character, she is a character who happens to be lesbian. (or bisexual, it’s not made clear which she is)
The new set of weapons, blue.
I realize A-Net has a thing about blue-glow and greatswords, the blue overkill is too much.
The last 3 weapon sets have been blue
-The Zodiac Weapons
-The Pheromones Weapons
-Now these new thistle weapons
We have blue Dungeon and Event Weapons
-Ghastly Weapons
-Dragon Deep Weapons
-Super Adventure Box
I know we have ONE Green-glow weapon set, and a few red but without the glow. So I am asking A-Net, could you hold off on the blue for one patch or two… not everyone is running to color code their armor to match the BLUE weapon overkill.
This I know, Scarlet will not kill us, death will not be marked by the Dragons, the end will not come in the form of the Mad King…
Blue… THE COLOR BLUE will do us all in.
That Humans, Asura, Charr and even Sylvari can play GW2 without Scarlet. That Scarlet will be lost in time, forgotten like a bad memory never to resurface!
If there is one vote that I wish was held, would be to vote Scarlet out of this game!
Woahh is this Inception? Because everyone in my guild, including myself, has had the exact same dream as you.
Scarlet may be a horribly implemented character, but by god is the stuff they come up with, and use her as an excuse for, all kinds of awesome!
I agree that the content has been just shy of awesome, and certainly has come a long way since the days of Flame and Frost: Prelude. However, it’s just such a let-down when you’re playing through this content knowing its because of some crazy, menopause, cliche, 80’s cartoon, salad-lady-villain again and again; in a universe with as much depth as Guild Wars 2 has to it. It’s just such a waste of story.

You want Scarlet to just “up and die” and be done with. But you probably don’t even know her story.
Many of us want her to die because her back story is so utterly idiotic that it begs a retcon. From how you explained her story i’m convinced even moreso she’s a Villian Sue & that she simply appeals to people who need that kind of character. It’s also telling that those who love her completely ignore her actual CHARACTER & focus on her shark-jumping BACKSTORY. Her CHARACTER is an annoying, cookie-cutter madman with wacky modern “killing people is funny” dialog. Of course, this is lost on anyone who puts lore over character. So far, the Mad King has a far better CHARACTER than Scarlet & already fills the madman role. And in a MUCH more entertaining & menacing way.
Yeah she needs to be scrubbed from the lore. with actually cool, fun characters like Palawa Joko & the Mursaat, I’m at a loss for why they feel the need to add modernized omniscient joker clones.
I like how Anet admitted that master togo’s voice acting was terribad, but I get this feeling that they actually believe Scarlet is good. Sorry, togo’s voice acting is award winning next to the pile that is Scarlet.
At any rate, I’m glad to see a movement away from Turdlet.

No, Scarlet is the best that could happen in this game amongst dragon bashes. festivals, 8 bit games and elections. I hope the expansion of GW2, if it will ever exist, will be based on Scarlet

Please kill Scarlet at least here, no one cares how she dies
She’s poorly written.
And I must agree with those who (more or less) said the Short Stories shouldn’t be taken as canon.
Guild Wars 2 is a game, NOT a multimedia installation.
Any content ArenaNet wants us to experience, should be found somewhere within the game. The website is for news, discussion, client-support, and merchandise.
We should never have to come here to experience actual content.
At minimal, they should have edited NPCs around Tyria (and a few Personal Story instances) to mention her. If they couldn’t be bothered to do that, it means she truly is no better than Kudu or Gaheron.
To me, she’s merely the excuse ArenaNet needed to drop their good ideas into the game with any level of context.
- Got amazing molten-models to show off, but no context? Scarlet
- Want to orchestrate a political assassination, but no context? Scarlet
- Have great dungeon design/mechanics to use, but no context? Scarlet
They need to retroactively etch her into the original chunks of the game if they really want her to shine as a character. I sincerely doubt that will happen… I expect them to layer *2~3 more releases about Scarlet, then her plot-presence will drop like a brick, and she becomes Tyria’s “Carmen Sandiego”:
- Her purpose of existence is to give ArenaNet an “in” on how to introduce good content and mechanics into the game without seeming random.
Hilariously enjoyable? Of course
Enriching for the game? Absolutely
Well-written? Nuh-uh
Arena Net’s shortcoming has always been their story-telling.
Their lore, top-notch. Their game-design, excellent. Their aesthetic style, pleasing to say the least. But their story-telling… Ref: Trahearne.

If i wanted to do a summary why she’s such a cartoonish cliche villain and why it would be better to just forget about her, i couldn’t have done it better. Thank you OP.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I haven’t really complained about anything so far, but Halloween this year is just a huge disappointment for me. Let me start with that, I loved it last year, but now its just a lazy, simplified copy of that, which doesn’t give you anything new, in face it feels like, it’s giving us less.
Personally I prefer the harder but more rewarding events, like Tequatl or TA, where we have challenges, and it gives either a cool mini or a title, but I can get the totally opposite direction as well, lets make the holiday events fun. Now this year’s Halloween just lack both so far and I’m really unhappy because my main character is a necro, and I was saving up golds and gems for this one and so far only the bone pick was interesting.
Costumes and/or armor skins would have be nice. It would have been fun do dress up as one of the major NPCs of the game (like Queen Jennah) or just get a new armor desing. The weapon skins are okay, to be fair, but this event definately wasn’t a bang at all. It was like waiting for your favourite show’s return and you just get the last year repeats.
I can only hope now, that at least we get an awesome perma logging axe (the sickle was awful, over-the-top and a bit out-of-the-world) or a rewarding and fun minidungeon against the Blood Prince. All-in-all, Halloween is a huge flop for me so far, which neither fun (at least not in a new way) nor rewarding so far.
(edited by CyClotroniC.4957)
Overall. GW2’s second halloween is looking like being far less enjoyable than the first. Not just the the insultingly overpriced items, but there’s less to do. And compared to year 1 the weapon skins suck. At least you can buy the things for tokens now rather than hope for the vanishingly slim chance of the thing actually dropping. But it’s a sad thing that the only item I wanted to buy this halloween was the costumed mini pets.
In this topic I’d like to address some things that I hope to see in the Living Story, and hopefully many of you will agree with me. This isn’t criticism of the current Living Story, since it is at the time of writing this, unclear where they are taking it. But here’s what I hope to see eventually:
The Menace of the Dragons
The Dragons don’t really feel like a big threat at the moment. It would be interesting to see the other dragons have a bit of an impact on the world. Sure, we have the dragon brand, and various dragon minions running around. But we don’t see any dragons literally terrorizing parts of the world. Any zone that has a dragon battle (such as the Claw of Jormag, or the Shatterer) simply has the dragon fly over occasionally. With the Living Story is would be interesting to see some of the other dragons actually attack settlements, and make some zones a dangerous place (even if only temporarily). How cool would it be, if a particular explorable zone suddenly became extremely dangerous, and players needed to avoid it?
Plot Twists
I’ve mentioned this before, but none of the stories in the game have been really surprising so far. And that’s probably an understatement. I know there is a lot of writing talent at Anet, so I’m hoping to see some twists and turns in the story. Something beyond “There’s a bad dragon and he sends minions to the surface”. I’m looking forward to seeing things happen that completely shatter our expectations and go in the opposite direction. A story that strays away from fantasy cliches.
Mystery
Tyria has a lot of lore, but currently the Living Story hasn’t conjured up a whole lot of mystery. GW1 did this a couple of times, where things would happen that indeed suggested a lot more was going on than we realized. I’m hoping the Living Story will surprise us with some events and changes that really will make us ponder what the hell is going on. The kind of mysteries that lead to wild speculations and heavy discussions. Right now the game is missing that spark of mystery.

If i could change one thing in GW2 I would make trash encounters into place of wonderous carnage and great stress relief.
This ^^^^ and so much this. And I don’t think it would make the game weaker. The boss encounters are complex already, requiring coordination. The trash should just be those guys who we could unleash our AoE with no guilty and see all those white numbers popping up, just for the fun of it. I wish I could +1 your post more than once, Lifelost.

I’d like to redirect people to the original topic which is “Why I think you’re (Anet) losing active players.” Presently, the discussion has devolved into a few people arguing about opinions and statements by others. We need constructive comments about what aspects of the game may be causing people to leave. Whether or not the game is failing (or not) isn’t the topic.
I don’t play GW2 anymore. I enjoyed exploring all the zones and got map completion. I enjoyed doing the personal story, hearts and dynamic events. I even enjoyed the jumping puzzles. I have not, however, found myself drawn in like I did with the original GW. I dislike dungeons and pvp; for me they’re just not fun.
I miss questing, heroes and henchmen, the skill system, and the unique feel of each profession. I loved playing my mesmer in GW! I love the characters in the game like Mhenlo, Cynn, Zhed, Koss, etc. They had little stories of their own that gave them personality. GW is the absolute best game I’ve ever played.
I know many people enjoy GW2 because it fits their style of play better. It doesn’t fit mine; so I’ve moved on. It just doesn’t have the things I loved about GW.
