treadmill, of being in that obvious pattern of every time I catch up you are going to
put another carrot in front of me” – Mike O’Brien right before Ascended weapons
Seriously?
No. But of course I expected reductio ad absurdum to be used as a “counter argument” as quickly as ad hominem.
Look around you. A lot of people unfortunatelly have no choice but to do something they don’t enjoy for a living. The guy who’s manning that gas station accross the street probably didn’t dream about doing that when he was a kid. Those Chinese factory workers very unfortunatelly do not have a choice – whatever abilities they have are wasted in a job that requires no skill.
Do you know what’s even worse?
When people choose to live like that. When, in a mockery of all those unfortunate people who due to circunstance cannot work on something that would make them happy, others decide to waste their time doing an activity they don’t even enjoy. Even worse, to live like that when playing a game.
That’s what a farmer is.
They don’t add items either. Some farmers do and some don’t, depends on what they are actually doing. Problem with trying to paint everyone with the same brush.
So you agree with what I’m saying then. They neither add items nor gold to the economy. That’s why their impact on the economy is minimal compare to a farmer which actually produces items and gold.
But any source of gold creation (i.e. Deadwell, CoF) must be carefully regulated, lest inflation become too severe (and we already see its effects. Look at ecto/dye/gem prices the past few weeks.)
I’m not painting farmers in a negative moral light, per se. It’s totally understandable why they’d do what they do. However, Anet is completely justified in nerfing some of these gold faucets because they can have negative impacts on the economy.
When farmers create a ton of gold and inject it into the economy, it causes inflation and screws over the rest of the playerbase which doesn’t farm.
Whether this effect is substantial or not is unclear. However, there is absolutely no denying that farming (specifically, the type that creates gold, i.e Deadeye and CoF) has the potential to harm the economy.
gw1 had a full expansion 1 year after launch, why doesn’t this game have that much new content?
I’m confused as to why so many people immediately expect GW2 to do everything just like GW1 did? When did ANet ever state this game was going to mimic the development cycle and releases of an 8 year old game?
I’m not saying an expansion would not be welcomed or is the wrong thing to do, but EXPECTING GW2 to follow GW1’s release schedule is a problem with your EXPECTATIONS, not anything Anet is doing to intentionally screw you or any player over. So many of these posts are filled with bile and hate for a company that has given many of us nearly a decade of enjoyable gaming.
I certainly am well aware of ANets shortcomings and mistakes, but if you balance the good with the bad, they have definitely been on the “good” side more often than not. I get that a lot of long time fans seem to think that is changing for the worse (I agree on some fronts), but changes have to be made to continue to grow and evolved in this market.
There is something wrong with your post that i think is troubling most of us
I would definitely pollinate her with gentle passion. She is a flower after all and she does need her pollen since there is no bees in Tyria.
Pretty sure it should be: “since there are no bees in tyria”
If you don’t follow the Zerg and use your mind, no they don’t. If you stick to the Zerg, you’re just gonna end up as mindless as they are.
Basically. Do your own thing and you’ll feel like you’re actually doing something. For example, if I see people already hitting a portal, ill switch on the swiftness and get to the next least populated one.
They don’t feel mindless, they are mindless.
Don’t skirt around the issue. If it is X, then call it X. Don’t twiddle your fingers and go “Oh, isn’t this maybe sorta X?”
And then i do that and everyone starts calling bull on that because they think i’m being entitled/trolling the issue by being blunt.
A sad sad culture indeed when people aren’t permitted to be honest.
You know what, now I’m just going to slap on my commander title and run around in circles. Thanks for giving me that idea. If someone wants to put on their commander title, sit down and eat a freaking sandwich, they can do that. If I want to repeatedly run off cliffs with my commander title on, I’ll do that. Funnily enough I did this and people followed me off the cliff. It’s not within your power to manipulate what everyone with a commander title does in the game.
One thing makes me laugh. Nobody cares about Orr. Even dragons and all other villains just ignore it
I want to build a villa here and live here.
Everyone calm down, it’s release day bugs, they will get patched. Maybe play something else for a bit while they hammer out issues, or maybe….gasp go out side, enjoy some fresh air, let the sun wash over you, feel the wind blowing.
And you just now realized that purposely chasing achievements is silly? Wow.
I always have to laugh at people who purposely set out to do achievements.
My feeling is they’re more designed to go off during random game play, like to make you say “wow, I didn’t know they had an achievement for that” when one does go off.
I don’t think they’re designed as a “checklist” you need to look at beforehand so you make sure you complete all of them. You’re just making the game into grindy nonsense by doing that. You should be playing for fun, not doing things just because you think they need to be done to fill some achievement requirement.
Don’t do that to yourself.

It won’t end in a dungeon. We have however included an instance that will open up that has a single player version, and a more difficult multiplayer version.
The ending is different
You are funny. I assume that this dungeon was soloed by people who are very trained in doing dungeon content which is the complete oposit of those who usually try to avoid them. So advising to do something solo and refering to that kind of people is pretty misleading imo.
(edited by Pirlipat.2479)
It’s really very simple.
Start out solo, end solo.
Start out group, end group.
I got a group for both the personal story and the dungeon in flame and frost so no, I didn’t require it to be solo. But, in principle, I agree that if something is solo for all the steps but the end step and suddenly switches to group, it is annoying to many.
There is nothing fun or compelling or heroic about begging 4 others to run you through a dungeon so that you may have a chance of seeing the resolution to a soloable chain of content.
I’m not going to continue to reiterate the same points that I said in earlier posts, but I would like to challenge this particular line of dialogue, as I disagree greatly. I feel as if you’ve worded the scenario in a way to make it sound more ‘nasty’ than it currently is. Completing a dungeon isn’t “Begging” other players to “Run you through” a dungeon. It’s a mutual agreement made between 5 different players to complete an instance together.
When I say, “Does anyone want to run molten facility?” in map chat and receive four responses, it is not because I’ve “Begged” them to assist me and that they’re doing it just to make me shut up. They’re joining me because they too want to experience the content for themselves, and would like to ally with me in order to accomplish that goal.
I could word this really eloquently and say it’s a, “Heroic band of brothers vanquishing evil together, in an organized group, just like trehearne and the heroes of our very own personal stories encouraged us to do!” but that would be another example of using emotionally tinged wording to skew the way an event sounds.
It’s okay to feel the way you do, but I wish you wouldn’t “shame” this content by making it look like playing it means you have to be some grovelling beggar who forces others into playing with him.
I would like to be able to change character and not have the guild chat log be cleared off my screen.
It’s not hard to alt-tab.
I am very dissapointed that I have to pay real money to duel a friend without interruptions, and worse than that I cant duel my friends with my PVE armor, stats or racial abilities…
Looks good. Though, I’m still waiting for ‘subscribe’ to work. ; ;
What a minute, don’t guilds need the Merits in order to ‘unlock’ the other missions-like the puzzles and races? I was always confused about that part…
If you do, that means small guilds will not be able to unlock them, since Merits are not included in the reward.
“Instead of Guild Merits, 3000 Guild Influence will be rewarded”
The point of the training bounties is to help smaller guilds get the influence in order to research and start the real bounties which award merits.
It is nice to see that they are aware of that issue, but its still not right if you ask me.
Everyone should have the same opportunity to experience part of the game and not be discriminated against if you are not in a big guild ( even if just for that purpose).
So there should be a formula that would calculate how many members there are in a guild, how many influence were earned the previous week, what kind of upgrades are already unlocked, etc.
That would give a relative cost for each guild individualy.
As a Warrior, my shouts miss when I am blinded…
That’s because in this game you use your eyes to shout.
But really it’s daft on both accounts, the shouts and traps.
But my guess is it’s part of their balancing to actually make blind more useful.
What? Is that real?
Well, I have never been blinded while my traps are being activated so I can’t confirm but if it’s true then I call BS.
As a Warrior, my shouts miss when I am blinded…
Put speed bonus when we wear town clothes in towns.
It’s a win-win situation.
When players are in town they will switch to town clothes because of speed bonus, realize they look same as everyone because we all have same default set from character creation and then some of them will buy new town clothes from the gem store.
You’re right that we do have a lot of currencies. We certainly know we could improve the experience here
once again.. you want to get the same thing the huge collection of people gets without any of the effort…
No you cant be paid 100 billion a year just because the country gets that much.
Cant speak for all the others but personally i would be fine if we just had access to tier 1 guild missions in say lvl 2 or 3 of their respective tiers, then the tier 2 and 3 missions could be further down, that way the smaller versions would be accessible by the smaller guild, but the bigger guilds got their bigger missions, so the big guild sure would have a advantage sure, but, at least the small ones do have a chance to get something, although it would take a bit longer, but i wouldn’t mind that. really with all 3 tiers being in lvl 5 i bet the tier 1 and 2’s are rarely if every started because the big guilds simply get more out of doing tier 3’s
I feel that the influence required for these missions (and to unlock them in the first place) should scale with the amount of people in your guild.
Exactly, it would follow the scaling theme used for virtually everything else of comparison and it would make sense. A small guild would benefit no more or less from the benefits of upgrades, regardless of level, so why should we small-guildies be forced to earn/pay an exponetially higher fee for the same benefits gained?
It’s almost like we’re little mom & pop stores trying to compete with wal-mart.
Without this issue being addressed we have no options, only a choice:
Good Luck to all the other small-guildies out there, may your guilds be strong and prosperous!!!
I am also disappointed and concerned about the new approach to guilds. This approach discourages small guilds and will probably result in just a few really huge guilds.
I would be happy with any change that gave small guilds the same chance at boosts and content. When dungeons party size is limited to 5, it makes sense to make guild missions and rewards (like boosts) available and easy to earn for small guilds. I could understand this new emphasis better if dungeon parties needed to be 25.
Our guild is small, PvE only and made up of RL friends and family members (4 generations of players!) All of us were GW1 players for 6+ years. Our schedules rarely coincide and frequently we play solo or only 2 people at a time.
Up until now, we have chugged along slowly earning influence. Many of us are avid gamers who like our boosts and bennies. Our slow rate of influence accumulation was frustrating, but okay because (up until this last update) the rewards were minor and we didn’t lose out on much.
Now there is content and boosts we want, but doing the math — they are beyond our capabilities. Already our most avid gamers are choosing to spend their time in other guilds further decreasing our ability to earn influence. I am afraid that this update spells the end for a guild that has kept us in touch with each other even as our lives scattered us across the continent.
I have liked a lot of things about this game. I like the artwork, I like the puzzles, I like the achievments, I like the living story and having new content with plotlines added. But I also prefer the intimacy of a small guild. I like knowing who I am playing with and I don’t like the pressure and politics that comes with a large guild. Large guild play is just not for me and if that is the direction the game is going, then I probably won’t like future changes any better.
I will try to keep our guild alive in the hopes that there will be changes in the future that will help small guilds. But if our guild disbands, I will probably drift back to GW1 or on to another game. I know the chance I might find one of my friends on line has encouraged me to play. Without that, the game isn’t as much fun.
