More updates than MMOs with Subs?

I’m quite happy with the amount of updates in GW2, but I wish more of it was permanent.

We’ve been playing around so far this year with a lot of different concepts to see what works for a living world game, and see what players liked and didn’t like. Based on all of your feedback, you’ll be seeing a greater degree of permanent content built into future living world releases in 2013. And of course, some things you’ve seen before may return again, in its current form but updated like SAB or holiday festivals, or in a new form entirely….

We’ve got a few more updates coming more along the lines of what we’ve done so far in the vein of holiday festivals, but as the year progresses we’re going to layer more permanent changes and content as well with each living world release. I’ll toss a blog post up in a couple of weeks that outlines high level, where we’re taking our living world style updates specifically in the future for more clear transparency once we’ve got it all ironed out.

As always all of your feedback and comments are greatly appreciated, we’ll continue to adapt and grow this strategy and concept as we go. As we’ve said before, we’re trying something very new and different here, and in some ways we’re learning along with all of you how we make a living world style game work.

Hey all,

As some of you have probably already noticed, we have new PvP subsections! The purpose of these new sections is to keep these forums a bit better organized, and to bring more visibility to upcoming events and teams that are recruiting. Please be mindful of what you are posting, and where you are posting it, so we can make sure your thread gets the right kind of attention.

Here are some links to helpful information about them:

If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask here!

After much back and forth we’ve managed to get the matchup changes in starting today 5/31. What we were unable to get ready for today were changes to the leaderboards which would have made it easy to sort by matchup, thus the leaderboards will continue to display your server ranking, but will not have sufficient information for you to be able to determine your matchups on that page. We will get them updated as soon as we can, but in the meantime you will be put into new, more varied matchups starting today and going forward. I will, hopefully, be able to post the new matchups here when they go live so at the least everyone can have some idea of what they are.

Is this API allowed?

AFAIK it is a separate program that does not modify Guild Wars in any way. It doesn’t modify game files, processes, nothing.

Imagine you have a web browser open and you open a calculator and place it over the window. That is what an overlay does. It is an independent program that just positions itself over some other application window.

Wait for a second opinion on this, but I’m pretty sure I got it right.

Hi,

First of all, I’m really happy to see all of your support for our new API system! We’re thrilled with how quickly you have adopted the APIs and created a huge variety of applications in an equally huge number of languages. Thank you so much for your support.

I wanted to give you an overview of our future development for the APIs. I hope that this information helps guide our conversations about potential new APIs. The currently released APIs are just the first step towards a much broader spectrum of API support.

We intentionally don’t have a roadmap for exactly which APIs we will create. Our plan is to use feedback and input from the community to help us choose which specific APIs to make. That said, we do have a longer term schedule that consists of technologies that will make more types of APIs possible.

We’re working on implementing OAuth2, a safe authentication system that will allow websites and applications to talk to our API on behalf of players without giving those apps your game password. For developers, this will involve signing up for an API key, getting a quota of API calls, etc. For users, there will be a new login flow where they authorize apps to take certain actions on their behalf.

OAuth2 support will enable many more personalized APIs to be created. Guild, Chat, Character, and other APIs are all possible. We don’t currently have a planned release date for OAuth2, but we’re actively working on implementing it.

So, when we’re talking about new APIs, keep this division in mind. If we talk about APIs that require authentication, those will need to wait until OAuth2 is ready. We can still talk about them, just keep the requirements for them in mind.

On the other hand, there are plenty of other unauthenticated APIs we can create now, and we should definitely talk about those!

Our immediate focus is on supporting the APIs that we just released — that means monitoring the servers, helping developers integrate with our API, improving our documentation, and fixing blocking bugs as quickly as possible.

At the same time, we’re listening to your suggestions and feedback, and we’re already at work on new APIs. I’m not ready to talk about them just yet, but we’re already working on some of the things you’ve been asking for.

PS. A suggestion about making suggestions — let’s try this. For each type of API (Guild, Items, etc.), let’s have one thread. Having multiple APIs discussed in one thread is pretty confusing on our forum, and will lead to very long threads that no-one will want to read. And conversely, if we have threads for each idea for an API, it would be too difficult to keep track of all of them. Maybe this will be a good middle ground.

New Legendaries / Rework

We still plan to do both new legendary weapons, as well as a clear path (on top of the current random chance) to gain precursors which players can see their progress and understand how much work they have left to do to gain it.

It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.

We do also want to maintain that chance you could get lucky and earn one earlier through random drops, so when we add the new system we will not remove the current one to ensure players have multiple ways to gain the items. Also with the upcoming update to WvW, there will be a chance players can earn precursors from the WvW rank reward chests as well.

Hi,

Welcome to the API Development forum!

We’re really excited to share these APIs with you. There are already some amazing community apps and websites out there, and we hope that these APIs enhance them and enable new ones to be created.

This thread documents the currently available APIs for use. These APIs are in beta, so don’t be surprised if the interfaces change, but we will try to warn you if we have to make any breaking changes.

All currently available APIs are accessed using simple REST-style HTTP URLs.

Dynamic Events API – BETA

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/events.json?world_id=1001

Optional parameters: world_id, map_id, event_id

This API returns an object with an “events” array. Each element contains the world_id, map_id, event_id, and state of an event. The ids can be translated to strings using the APIs listed below. The optional parameters can be used to filter the results to a desired scope of events.

The possible event states are:

  • Active – The event is running now
  • Inactive – The event is not running now
  • Success – The event has succeeded
  • Fail – The event has failed
  • Warmup – The event is waiting for certain criteria to be met before activating
  • Preparation – The criteria for the event to start have been met, but certain activities (such as an NPC dialogue) have not completed yet. After the activites have been completed, the event will become Active.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/event_names.json
https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/map_names.json
https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/world_names.json

Optional parameters: lang

Each of these APIs takes an optional querystring parameter “lang”. So for example, if you go to /v1/world_names.json?lang=de the results will be returned in german.

Currently supported languages: en, fr, de, es

These APIs return a JSON array of ids to strings. The ids correspond to ids returned in the events.json API.

The region a world is in can be determined by its world_id:
1xxx – North America
2xxx – Europe

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/event_details.json

Optional parameters: event_id, lang

Returns detailed information about events. This includes their static starting location in the world. This location is not updated dynamically, so it’s only accurate for events that don’t move.

WvW API – BETA

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/wvw/matches.json

Returns the currently running WvW matches, and the world ids in each match. The match_id can be used with match_details.json API documented below.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/wvw/match_details.json

Required parameter: match_id

Returns details about a match. This information includes the scores on each of the maps, and which team owns each objective. If an objective is held by a guild, the guild_id is also provided.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/wvw/objective_names.json

Optional parameter: lang

These APIs return a JSON array of ids to strings. The ids correspond to ids returned in the events.json API.

Item and Recipe Database API – BETA

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/items.json

Returns a list of all items discovered by players in the game.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/item_details.json

Required parameter: item_id
Optional parameter: lang

This API takes an item_id and returns details about the item it represents. The format of the item details returned depends on the type of item represented. Some aspects of the item details will be present for all types of items, and some will be specific to specific item types.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/recipes.json

Returns a list of all recipes discovered by players in the game.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/recipe_details.json

Required parameter: recipe_id

This API takes an recipe_id and returns details about the recipe it represents.

Guild API – BETA

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/guild_details.json

Required parameter: guild_id or guild_name

This API takes a guild_name or guild_id. It returns public data about a guild, including its name, tag, and emblem.

The emblem data is currently only the text metadata that can be used to compose the emblem. In the future, we may be able to provide the emblem as an image through this API, but that’s not currently possible.

The colors in emblem data are color IDs that represent an color value. The color IDs can be translated using the color API detailed below. Emblems use the ‘cloth’ material value in the color. We do not currently have an API to resolve foreground_id or background_id to more useful information about the images they represent.

Map API – BETA

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/continents.json

Optional parameter: lang

Returns a list of continents, and information about each continent. This information is meant to be used in conjunction with the world map tile service, and with the map floor API.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/maps.json

Optional parameters: lang, map_id

Returns summary about one or all maps in the game. The summary contains information like the floors that a map is on, and translation data that can be used to translate world coordinates to map coordinates.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/map_floor.json

Required parameters: continent_id, floor
Optional parameter: lang

Returns detailed information about a map floor. This data can be used to populate a world map. Any coordinates provided have already been translated to map coordinates, which can be used in conjunction with the world map tile service.

The data provided currently only contains static content. Dynamic content, such as vendors, is not currently available.

Miscellaneous APIs – BETA

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/build.json

No parameters.

Returns the current build ID. This can be useful for a number of purposes, such as resetting event timers due to server restarts.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/colors.json

Optional parameter: lang

Returns all of the colors / dyes in the game, and their color component information.

Colors are represented in their original color shifting form (HSL + contrast/brightness) as well as in RGB form. An example of how to interpret the original form is here: http://jsfiddle.net/cliff/jQ8ga/

The exact color applied to an item depends on its material. The different color/material combinations are enumerated in the API for each color.

https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/files.json

No parameters.

Returns a set of commonly requested in-game assets. These assets can be used to enhance API-derived applications. The results returned this API can be used to fetch assets from the Render service.

The state of Necromancer

in PvP

Posted by: Lopez.7369

Lopez.7369

The problem is two-fold: Necromancers don’t have a condition like burning, so HGH engineers are almost always going to better for condition damage because burn provides a lot of damage and cleansing protection. Necromancers also don’t have much in the way of mobility and require 900 range to do decent damage, so they’re very easy to focus down as an organized group.

Symbolic from Team Paradigm covered this well enough in a Reddit post recently:

In my opinion necromancer just doesn’t work in the current EU meta, you don’t deal enough damage (your only damaging condition is bleeds). Shout guardians/cantrips elementalists effectively neutralize that damage. You don’t have consistent poison like an HGH engineer with their pistol #2 and poison grenades(thieves probably get the best of it having a spammable poison field on shortbow 4, which is more useful than corrosive poison cloud). You rely on the third hit of your scepter for single target poison, which is a small poison duration and chillblains which is also a fairly short poison duration, however chillblains in itself is a hugely useful utility although the poison duration isn’t huge/repeating.

Effectively you’re a corrupt boon/epidemic/res bot that can tank with plague form. Plus the fact you’re so easily diveable from thieves/mesmers/warriors etc. Sure you can rely on positioning but when you’ve got a pistol dagger thief spamming blinds on you while doing huge damage or a sword/dagger thief spamming evades, disengaging when he wants.

At the moment the necromancer is currently only good in condition cleave comps with a mesmer/hgh engineer so it can spread pressure from an initial target as the necromancer doesn’t in itself deal a huge amount of pressure. Plus the fact if you’re positioning properly you’re realistically only going to be pressuring the guardian and anybody who overextends. Necromancer lacks too much disengage and has no real ‘gtfo’(disengage) ability(you could run flesh wurm I guess?) so it can go into a fight and get off its damage, so it has to deal damage to low priority targets, and the targets it does deal damage to you’d probably be better suited having an hgh engineer pressuring that target.

GW2Esports [LFG] - Do you need a team?

in Looking for...

Posted by: Bas.7406

Bas.7406

So with the influx of tournaments, and the expanding esports scene. Shawn and I have been approached numerous times by players simply looking for teams. SOAC Gaming has a team that is practicing and putting together it’s final roster for upcoming tournaments. The GW2 reddit guys have a guild for strategy talking and build discussions.

So sittingonacouch.com and reddit.com/gw2esports subreddit is proud to introduce the GW2Esports – Practice Squad [LFG] for NA and EU players.

Practice Squad will be a rank that is designed to help players find teams, learn about comps, and scrim against teams that need practice. You will be playing against actual teams such as AIM, SOAC, ZZZZ, and so on. You will also be playing against each other. This will increase your exposure and give you and your team an idea as to how to work together.

Teams will be put together based on basic composition choices decided by Android aka Shawnbuell and the Academy of the Mists group and based on available practice schedule. Practice Squad members are required to rep the team during their practice times and be present or give prior notice to their team captain. Gw2esports[LFG] is not a guild per say nor is it going to sign you up for tournaments. It is simply a way to funnel players into teams and to get teams someone to regularly practice against. If you don’t currently have a team chances are your next team won’t be ready for the next tournament so until you get a regular team participating in practice squad against other teams and other practice squad members is a great way to potentially find a team and learn how tournaments work.

If a team plays together and really gets along and wants to split off to form their own guild than all we ask is that one member at least remains in Gw2esports and helps us with setting up teams with other players.

If you are an experienced player with a current team, but would like to help please let me know.

If you would like to be on the Gw2esports – Practice Squad please sign up with in the following manner.
