suggestion: let charr hide boots please

Many of the Charr footwear models kind of look like afterthoughts. Most look like human shoes with the toes cut out and don’t look very appealing. Can we get an option to hide the foot armor like we do with helm and shoulders? I kind of feel like the charr really got the short end of the stick with armor. Especially medium armor since masks look a bit like feed bags.

Hi Forums, I’m Colorblind,

And, in addition to other troubles in GW2, it makes it very difficult to see AoEs — especially in the Queens Gauntlet; my experience is very near playing without AoE indication at all, making Liadri’s death-storm AoEs insanely challenging.

I understand that colorblindness is something Anet has addressed in the past, and giving movement to the AoE indicators was tremendously helpful in many situations (Cliffside first fight is a big one for me). Nonetheless, it is still a large obstacle for colorblind peoples.

Without expecting a speedy solution, I would recommend 2 things:
1) Allow for players to choose what color AoE indicators are. While I personally have intensity deficits in red (80% loss) and green (65% loss), I have heightened intensities for blues and yellows — both at almost 200% intensity. Being able to select those colors as an alternative might be very helpful.

2) If in designing new content, there are to be AoEs atop green/gray surfaces or surfaces that otherwise might not provide best visibility, have your play testers complete the content with AoE indicators disabled. This will give the developers better feedback as to what the challenge might be like for colorblind players.

Anyway, that’s just my 2 cents. I’m gonna keep trying at Liadri, but speaking honestly, I can only get to phase 2 because I’ve memorized the first bit of the drop pattern, and I know darkness doesn’t befall the same region twice in a row. It’s poopy and slow, but it’s the best I’ve got right now (and I’m totally open for suggestion).

The AoE indicators in the arenas are actually a problem for people with normal sight, so I can only imagine how much worse it must be for the colorblind.

I believe people who voted for Kiel hadn’t even read the website update of what the rewards would be, Evons rewards were better I mean comeone, it’s Abaddon stuff!

Well I wasn’t thinking the abaddon stuff would be a fractal, I was more thinking that we would be going to the Ring of Fire in Tyria and explore some new cool stuff there. But that’s just me.

This sums up my reaction to this tread, thank you Pixel.

Is this the most controversial update ever?

This forum is blazing with rage!

I really like the update. I could quibble about the fact the gauntlet causes my frame rates to crash… but whoopity doo. And I haven’t even made it to Liadri yet. I’m stuck on Chomper. And I’m still having fun and enjoying all the drops and achievement points.

And I like the watchknights, even if they seem more Charr-origin-centric than human to me.

I’m hopeful for the birthday bash.

Yeah, I don’t think you see how going to a theme park and performing skilled content are completely separate endeavors. Until you can resolve this dissonance in your argument, I can’t really continue to entertain it.

I liked it too.

This stuff should be ‘discover able’ in the game though. A lot of people miss these lore tidbits, which help to bring the current story alive because they don’t think/know to check the website.

There really should be some way for folks to read or experience this stuff in game if they don’t go to the site.

Very nice indeed.
I was thinking on a way of integrating these kind of stories into the game and its actually very complicated. Doing a cutscene must be a lot of work.

So I’m glad we have these posts so whoever is into it can read. A lot of my friends won’t bother reading them (they even skip cutscenes haha). But I can say I’m 100% into it.

Great story.

I’m perfectly happy with these stories being published on the website. Integrating them into the game would cost developer time better spent on playable content.

Actually, integrating these into the game is entirely up to how they want to present it. It’s entirely viable for them to simply go the mail route or update a section of the UI with the text. It’s not much, but there’s a suggestion in my signature loosely covering this. Merely put these under a Living World>Queen’s Jubilee subcategory alongside other relevant material for users to reread whenever they please and know who all these people are.

The current form of presentation is very lacking, since the News section hasn’t any search or visible tags to click to bring up all posts of a certain category. This makes it very difficult for all but the most dedicated users to keep up with all these new faces and stories, which is a bit of a shame, given it buries the writers’ efforts.

Glad you enjoyed the story—thanks very much!

As for Rox’s, she’s unusually superstitious for a charr (or anyone else, really). A lot of soldiers are superstitious, but Rox was ahead of the curve before she survived the accident that killed her warband. Since she survived on almost pure luck (she was out of the mine when the disaster happened), she’s become even moreso.

Cheers, and thanks again,

I understand her belief in her trinkets, but what’s up with the spitting? O.o?

I think he (the writer) was just trying to make up a physical ritual that could be associated with certain superstitions. I agree it came off as bizarre and jarring and overall felt a bit forced.

Faowri.4159

I’m not sure if Queensdale needs to change, so much as all the other maps need to have enough frequently-occurring event content with a similar level of rewards to make Queensdale no longer special. That would improve player distribution. A lot of higher level maps have nowhere near the amount and frequency of event content as the lower level maps do.

So using the physical features of a woman is sexist, giving them all cooking equipment is progressive?

I officially don’t understand feminism anymore.

I don’t think anyone does, not even the feminists. I mean, I know what it used to be about and I was all for that . It’s not about that anymore. It’s about this . This is a step backwards.

Why can’t people just label themselves ‘humanists’ and be done with it? Or better yet, ‘humans’ ?

Personally, I think the Watchnights are fine. I think the Crystal Giant is fine. I think depictions of the human form, whether nude or not, are fine. I also believe one should be far more concerned about the concepts of hate, oppression, violence, etc., rather than worrying about nudity. I mean, all of you play a game in which you continuously kill everything around you with reckless abandon; other players included. Yet, you are worried about mechanical nipples?!?

1. Are high heels on a fighting robot, inconsistent with the realism of the rest of the game?

My argument is no. The reason is because high heels are just as impractical as not wearing a shirt when you live in the snow, or building floating platforms that you can barely jump to, just to get to a crafting station.

I will admit that it is new, and different, but it is no more or less impractical than many other design choices in this game.

I’m going to make an assumption here, and please feel free to call me on it if I’m wrong… but you’ve never worn 4" or higher heels have you?

There is “impractical” as in a race born and raised in an extremely northern mountain range finding the weather hundreds if not thousands of kilometers south of their homelands warm enough for a t-shirts and shorts (think Inuit going to see a balmy NorCal winter, yeah there is snow, but it’s 30-40 degrees F warmer than what they would call a “real winter”), and there is impractical that will snap your ankles like a twig when you first try and pivot.

Now, you can argue that since the WKs are robots, their ankles are stronger than a humans, and I give you that… but it wouldn’t affect the pathetic grip that heels that high have. Look at any combat boot worn in the last 5000 years of human warfare, one of the constants is good traction. You have features like natural rubber soles, good grip profile, and a flat sole to keep as much on the ground as possible. Heels on the other hand, have a tiny spike at the back (which will sink into anything softer than concrete), and a very small patch of sole under the toes only. Combined, you are looking at an 80-90% reduction in traction… an angry Asura could push the WKs around like toys as they skidded over the ground.

About the only practical advantage high heels could have in a combat setting is 4" more height to see by, which if you played the robot card earlier is useless as you could make the neck 4" longer and have a better overall combat platform.

In my opinion Effigy’s and Holograms weren’t very fun. They were kinda cool the first time, despite looking very out of place, but doing those achievements felt like a huge grind and pushed the novelty way beyond where it should have been left.

The balloons from this update are much better. They represent the story, they involve actual gameplay (dynamic events, and real ones with some story, I felt the Flame and Frost ones were very hit and miss) and they don’t look out of place. In my head now, I know that Queen Jennah invited representatives from all over Tyria to go to the Jubilee because I’ve seen them travelling there myself in the open world. I’ve also been introduced to the Honour Guard. I have no idea if they are going to be important, but I know who they are now and it’s because of the ballons. Can you say that about Effigys and Holograms? Another thing about it is the world really did feel like it was living. I was looking at the delegate I had to escort in Caledon expecting it to be a sylvari and it was a hylek, then I remembered, there are hylek in this area on the map. There was a disconnect with the Dragon Bash representatives and the ceremony that doesn’t exist in Queen’s Jubilee. It’s a huge improvement and one of the coolest things about it is that it helps tell the story through gameplay, something that has been a weak point in the game up until now.
