Why do threads like these get immediate attention by anet but then other threads with serious issues get ignored

Because these threads can be answered without starting a war?

The amount of QQing here in opposition to mounts is appalling.

No it’s not—-many many many DO NOT WANT MOUNTS ADDED!!!

So NO!

Mods please merge with the dead closed thread where it belongs.

Why does some having mounts affect your game anyway? There are mounts already implemented and they can just be made faster. You can still run or wp everywhere if you want. As for lag, unless a dev says otherwise a mount is not a pet with the need for additional pathing to the character. There is no reason if people have lag problems there couldn’t be a toggle to turn the graphics of the mount down to a very basic or even make mounts disallowed when serious lag begins.

I imagine it’s the same as war Golems in WvW too, no need for the extra pathing, and like our current option for standard enemy models, mounts can have a placeholder for a standard model depending on a player settings.

Checklist of what we do know,
1. Anet already has introduced mounts
2. Some testing has been done on “mounted appearances”, no speed increase Golem, broom, carpet, & tunneler.
3. Some testing has been done w/speed boosts +5% Kites
4. Some testing has been done to show if profitable, items above sold in gem store.
5. Anet could step in anytime on these many posts and say “we will never introduce mounts” if they wanted to.
6. A huge list of mmo’s have proven the mmo player in general favors mounts.

Since this decision will never be made by any of us, only Anet will decide if the return in revenue and draw for new players is worth the time and money invested in furthering what is already in-game. Hopefully our feedback will help with expanding this feature.

The only problem I have with Defeated players (not Downed ones) is that they take so much longer to rez and you can’t tell them apart from Downed players without trying to rez them. All you see is a sea of undifferentiated rez icons. Here are a few changes I’d like to see, in order from smallest change to largest:

1. Change the icons for Defeated players to be different than Downed players. Perhaps make them red or black. You should be able to tell in a sea of icons which are beyond saving.

2. Adjust the input priority of rezzing Defeated players such that it never ever takes priority over other options. If you’re within a 5m radius of a Defeated player, a Downed player, a Defeated core NPC (like a cargo bull or fort commander), an enemy that could be looted, a chest, and a bundle, then if you hit F repeatedly the order in which these things are activated should be Loot > Key NPC > Downed Player >Chest > Bundle >Defeated Player.

3. Any Defeated player should instantly be removed from the scaling roles.

4. Raise the speed of rezzing Defeated players so it isn’t such a complete waste of everyone’s time. Rezzing a player from Defeated should not take more time than rezzing from Downed.

5. As Tigris noted, the Downed state is highly variable between classes, with some being very strong and some being practically worthless. Every class needs to have a position-shifting ability, at the minimum, because falling on top of a hot zone and being unable to move out of it is just game over.

6. Specific to the Silverwastes bosses (and similar events) if you have players enter a boss fight in a way where fall damage is a likely result, account for that somehow. Perhaps have a massive heal pulse when they hit the ground, or give them temporary Invulnerability as they pass through or something so that the fall damage is negated.

you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be

So those not wanting to do the event by want to use a nearby waypoint that’s not within the event radius should be punished?

If those same people got killed in the event somehow, then I suppose so. If those people are just passing by, what’s stopping them from running away, getting to safety and out of combat and then WPing somewhere they want to be?

You did not read what I posted correctly.

Person on Map B wants to go to WP 1 on Map A. However, WP 1 on Map A is near an event, but not near enough that it would be contested due to the event. Should THEY be punished and not be able to go to WP 1 because there’s an event nearby?

Because WP’s that are already pretty much on top of any event are already locked out to both participants and non-participants of events.

Your suggestion will just make things worse.

If the WP isn’t contested and you aren’t dead or in combat, then how does that pertain to what is being suggested?

If you are dead and you happen to be in that event, the options should encourage others to rez you.

And it takes an INCREDIBLY long time to rez someone who is fully down. Meaning it takes another person out of the fight.

It’s much better to just let the person WP to a nearby WP so that they can actually actively participate again. Open world isn’t dungeons. They do not need to be treated equally because they are two different things.

WP zerging isn’t a problem in the open world. You’re making a solution to a non-existent problem.

As far as I understand it from what I’ve read most of the setting, art work, new enemies etc. from Utopia were used in Eye of the North and some of the mechanics and profession ideas were added to GW2.

If I remember correctly from the one time I got to see a friends copy of the Making Of GW2 book (that came with the Collectors edition) one of their big ideas was to do something like the Dynamic Events system – quests for groups of players to do together that would have a lasting effect on the area, for everyone not just those who did the quest. But it proved to be impossible with the tech they had for GW1 and that’s what got them talking about making a sequel instead.

Seriously, GW:Beyond was AMAZING and only made with a few devs and spare change. How can they make such great content like the War in Kryta and Winds of Change with so little, then push out nothing but stupid gem store items with a full team of devs?

If we ever get around to fighting Jormag, I imagine most of the old EotN areas will be opened up for exploration. Down in Sparkfly Fen, for example, we have the sites of the old Bloodstone Caves and Bogroot Growths dungeons – I think that Inquest post in the southeast of the zone is on or close to where Bloodstone once was, and the general area of Bogroot’s old location is, of course, now home to many hylek tribes both friendly and hostile. Shards of Orr, home to the (in)famous Bone Dragon Staff, was east of where the Grove now is and is either underwater or behind the Great Wall of the tengu. I believe the Central Transfer Chamber (and I wonder why it’s not on the map considering that it was cleansed of Destroyers during EotN and is presumably still the hub of the Asura gate network) is somewhere in Frostgorge Sound. The site of Oola’s Lab is to the west of Rata Sum, in an area that is theoretically available for exploration at a future date – my own headcanon is that Oola moved her digs to their current location after EotN. For that matter, Alcazia Tangle, where Tarnished Haven once was, is still there southeast of Rata Sum, though half-flooded – I don’t see why it couldn’t be opened in due course as a new front in the campaign against Mordremoth as its minions swarm the area in an attempt to attack the Asura and Sylvari metropolises.

Hopefully someone can answer this – can you still hear it when it’s covered by both traditional sheathed weapons like the shield, as well as more specialized things like engineer weapon kits?

Yes he works when covered by shields or engineer kits. He also works on clones (to keep the enemy guessing) and works while transformed.

His dialogue is hilarious, and I’m awfully tempted to buy one, but I have the feeling his non-stop chattering might get on my nerves after a while.

Clicking ‘hide backpack’ in the equipment panel shuts him up without having to change out packs. -(Edit: My bad, the hide backpack flag is supposed to quiet him but doesn’t yet. That’s an update coming in a future patch)

Thank you! I was going to make a post requesting this, I like to do WvW sometimes and I don’t want to blow a transmute charge every time I want to do wvw.

Speaking of this, why can’t gemstore skins be free to apply like hall of monuments skins, achievement skins, and gemstore outfits?

I mean I already paid for the skin once, with cash, and now I’m having to pay for it again and again if I want to use the skin on a character that is leveling and gets upgrades.

[Request] Mission Saves / Disconnect-proofing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Imperios.2543

Long introduction; scroll down to see the main part of the post:

Hello.

The first thing I would like to say is that I thoroughly enjoyed both the Personal Story and the Living Story’s second season, and found their respective plots enjoyable and compelling. I especially liked the characters of Sieran, Zojja, Trahearne, Faolain and Marjory Delaqua, as well as the plots regarding the Asura race (especially the Infinity Ball), the Order of Whispers, and the recent Mordrem storyline.

(that being said, the first season of the Living Story was impressive as well purely because of its innovatory format, engaging, if at times unusual, narrative and impeccable boss fights notwithstanding. However, I would exempt its discussion from this thread for reasons described below.)

One innovation I have found particularily enjoyable, though, was the implementation of single-player story instances for maintaining a personal storyline that has been used for the entirety of the Personal Story and the Living Story’s second season. As opposed to other storyline-based MMORPGs, where the combination of complex, plot-driven quest chains and non-instanced areas resulted in disarray and even, at times, servers shutting down (cough cough our bond is iron cough), or Guild Wars 1, where story instance usage was so thorough that the game could never dare to call itself massive, Guild Wars 2 combines these two systems, creating a world where the story of a character and the story of the world support and complement one another.

However, this system too has its flaws, and the greatest one of these, the one I and, I believe, many other Guild Wars 2 have faced throughout their play, is the disconnect problem._ Should one, at one point or another in the story, suffer a connection failure and thus need to restart the game or relog, any progress that he or she has so patiently worked on will be inevitably erased, and the poor soul will have to repeat the mission over and over again until his Internet connection would show mercy to him or her and allow him to complete it_. That problem, coupled with my faulty Internet connection (courtesy of my location in the icy wastes of Russia), has significantly lengthened my playtime, which was nice had it not been for me having to repeat some long missions (such as: Battle for Claw Island, Retribution, Forging the Pact, The World Summit and Hidden Arcana) several times.

GW2’s predecessor, GW1, apparently utilised a system wherein mission progress could be saved, allowing the player not to waste significant amount of time on replaying the mission over and over again. Is it possible, coding-wise, for this system to be introduced to Guild Wars 2?

Please bring this back and fix this anet. The removal of these quests don’t make any sense at all. You paid programmers, artists, designers, sound and music programmers etc to make these stories and now get rid of them… for what reason? Things don’t even make sense now. Characters are dead for the final stories then alive again b/c the order of the stories are now messed up. If you swap the order ie: killing zhaiten then cleansing orr, at least edit the videos, cinema, dialogue etc so it makes sense, you can’t just swap things and not change them when it messes up the lore and story that much.

This is your own game, your baby. Your product that fans have enjoyed for 8 years. Your legacy to changing the mmo generation. Please don’t pull a WoW and kill it yourself.

…and without the Greatest Fear Plotline, key plot points never even happen but are still big parts of the war in Orr. It just confuses people and makes no sense.

Rewriting everything is hard and costs money. Revoicing everything is hard and costs money. Recoding everything is hard and costs money. Checking that having done all that didn’t introduce even more plot problems is hard and costs money. Doing it all again to fix the new problems is hard and costs money.

Yes, putting the plot back in its original order but fitting it into the new system will be hard. And it will cost money. But when you compare it to all the things listed above that would have to be done (over and over again nonetheless), this option of putting it back and making it fit the new system has to be a lot cheaper. And it makes for a better story on top of all of that.

The third option, of leaving the plot incomprehensible (as it is right now), sends a clear message that, as others have put it here:

…A simple play through shows the plot is all mixed up… maybe the plot doesn’t matter?

…if the plot no longer matters to them, then this game no longer matters to me. And it pains me greatly yo say that, but its the truth… the only thing left for me is the story.

…The point is, people in this thread feel like the gaping plot crater left by removing the greatest fear storyline is the problem and that it is a much a bigger problem.

…there are those who care about storytelling and can’t get into their main character if their main character is Mr./Mrs. Perfect and never makes any mistakes… It makes it a bad story from a narrative perspective. And we thought they cared about telling a good story. We all are starting to feel like we were wrong about that now.

…It’s a mess. Worse, it’s obvious when you play these chapters. And yet this thread is a month old and nothing has happened.

Clearly it was okay to alter the plot without confirming it still made sense. Clearly it’s not a high priority fix, if it’s even on the list of things to fix.

Conclusion: The plot just doesn’t matter much.

and

The silence from ANet on this matter is just deafening.

i know nothing about these dialogue changes (as i’ve utterly halted any story progression beyond the first lvl 40 mission to gey my key), but it seems like an idiotic thing to do just to “fix” the plot holes. you have on one hand, spend more money, slap a bandaid on the story, continue to have hundreds, if not thousands of complaints. on the other hand, press the story reset button, make it the way it was, spend little, if any money, satisfy EVERYONE…………if they took the first option, they have to be the craziest s.o.b’s in existence if they think that’s a good plan

I’ve had another playthrough, and while the same problems are still there, Trahearne’s voice lines have been updated. So while ANet still cares about Personal Story (of course they do, just see their “improvements”), unconfusing the end chapters appears to be another large patch away.

If that’s the case, it is what we have feared then, they wont return the missing arc, but will preform a hard edit, to cleanse its existence from the remaining chapters. Well, even this is better than leaving the story as it is though… But why Anet? Why fix what isn’t broken? What we all love and enjoy? And what contributes so much to the infrastructure of the story.

I got a theory. If memory serves, people vocally complained on the forums about how Trahearne stole your character’s spotlight on the last half of the Personal Story, which I honestly do not see considering that he never joined my character and Destiny’s Edge towards the attack on Zhaitan and was just perched atop his ship on the Straits. This change was meant to address this, although I think it backfired. I may be kitteny for saying this, but if this is true, then I sincerely blame the people for voicing that out and we eventually got what we got right now.

Most of the complaints were focused on earlier events though.

Mainly the fact that unless you play a sylvari you’re first introduced to Trahearne at the start of The Battle of Claw Island. At the end of the instance your mentor dies and Trahearne instantly takes their place. Very shortly afterwards he becomes the head of the Pact and you’re his second in command, following his orders from that point on.

It’s extremely jarring given that until that point you were lead to believe your Order mentor would be the one going up against Zhaitan with you.

Following his orders, huh? There’s that plus he let’s you decide the best course of action on certain occasions.

Yeah, a lot of players did complain about personal story having weak story telling, about Anets trend of makeing characters and then killing them off before we even form an emotional connection with them, about pointless NPC deaths (when no one important dies, why does the regular joe die left and right type of thing), and how Trehearn steals our personal story… so maybe they thought it was a good solution to one, or even all of the problems. But trully, they just made matters worst. If there was a problem with story, you don’t fix it by removing a chunk, and scrambling up the rest. Well, even the scrambling isn’t AS bad as long as they go back and adjust the lines, voices, and cutscnes to match the new order, but removing content all together (my greatest fear arc), is not how you fix a problem. Who know, maybe they have a master plan that will make it a 100 times better and we will love them for it… but at least they could tell us as much

My proposition is instant scaling back if people move outside of a fights boundaries and a 10 second countdown when a person dies. The countdown is frozen when another players starts a ress and, should he not ress the player fully, starts at 10 seconds again.

Is there a reason you feel there should be a 10 second window for a dead player? A dead player can’t do damage nor provide buffs, so in my opinion he should be immediately removed from the player pool for scaling.

Yes but that dead player will get event reward. Imagine this: group of 20 enters the boss area, 15 commit suicide and the 5 remaining kill it very quickly and all 20 get the reward.

This “window” can be abused to make fights considerably easier for the same rewards, something experience has shown that players of this game really really enjoy.

I’d like to see mounts added for purely personal, aesthetic reasons.
I’ve owned and showed horses for most of my life, and they’ve been my companions and (sometimes) my best friends. It seems like such a glaring omission for an adventurer not to have his or her faithful steed. Imagine the Lone Ranger without Silver, King Arthur on foot, or even General Grant without Cincinnati or General Lee without Traveller. The game just feels incomplete to me without mounts.
I don’t care about speed increases. I don’t care about, and in fact wouldn’t want, elaborate sparkles or flaming hooves or loads of spiky armor. Just a simple mount with utilitarian tack would be wonderful.
Aesthetically, they’d look neat, too, and could be chosen to suit the character. I can imagine my human ranger on a sturdy Fjord-type horse, my Sylvari guardian on an elegant Arabian charger, and my warrior on a black Friesian like the one in Ladyhawke. They would add new possibilities for individualizing characters beyond just armor. And there’s nothing saying that equines would be the only available mounts; that’s just my taste. A Charr on a huge tiger would look imposing and awesome.
Just my opinion, but mounts would add so much fun to the game.

Why does some having mounts affect your game anyway? There are mounts already implemented and they can just be made faster.

Now you see, where it affects me, right?

No I dont. what I see is someone with a cosmetic dislike for mounts so far. Like someone may have a dislike of minis or a dislike of outfits. Fasts travel is already available and in fact its superfast travel. Slow travel at running speed +25% and with added skills and traits is already available. All that’s being asked for is travel that isn’t slow but isn’t near instant for many. A dislike of mounts could be valid only if it was to break the game but that’s like saying don’t do anything new as it may break the game.

I use forums to give my opinions but I mostly avoid discussing over
them due to those less than polite individuals out there and their offensive attitude.
