I agree. Still a lot to do, only 2 months left. Will be saddened if a lot of it doesnt make it in.
Sadly, I really think that the Living Story effort takes resources(meaning people, money, infrastructure, time) away from other parts of the game that truly need it, such as the list of things you noted. Everything is invested in LS, and everything else is just getting pushed aside it seems.
I love in this thread the “I don’t like the way you play the game. I’m glad they nerfed it so you don’t play the game how you want to.” replies. Fark you guys. I like to farm. I enjoy it. Quit trying to make me quit playing this game, Anet!
Yeah .. maybe its time to start a “nerf Dungeon rewards” Thread, since i don’t like Dungeons, so its time to nerf them also.
Especially the ones where people can just skip most of the stuff and get rewards for practically 0 skills. I wouldn’t really call that a fair reward system.
If it takes 0 skill, why don’t you do it?
Also, oh the irony… A champ train farmer complaining that dungeon running takes 0 skill. It’s almost painfully ironic…
You realize you have been showered with gold for 0 skill for months now, right?

100 a day for a champ farmer isn’t even close, you can get about 40-50 an hour depending on the zone/path you take, I read about this nerf, so went and tested it today, I only did a small test 75 champ boxes from a highly farmed level 80 zone, I will openly admit there is no risk in this farm, but it does highlight something.
I was amazed to see that 15 of the boxes gave me less than 1 silver, and a few give none at all, with the highest I seen was 8 silver, still not bad for a no risk farm, what got me was the removal of nearly all T6 mats, out of the 75 boxes I got 2 x T6 fangs, that was it, looking at the price of T6 mats on the TP its going to be bad for anyone needing these mats,
When anet nerf something they really go overboard, which highlights the other part, its ok to get a small reward for no risk, but anything that is high risk or time consuming, ( FotM lvl 40+ ) your getting even less rewards!!!!!
Get your act together anet, this motion of telling people how to play and where to play in the game doesn’t work, and if you try carry that practice over into your Asian market that your trying to break into, you might aswell stop now.
I personally think the zerker set up is bad because it makes build variety shallow. If you look at speed clear builds they usually focus on might and vulnerability stacking, unique class buffs (ranger’s Spotter for 170 precision, warrior’s Empower Allies for 170 power) and flat DPS increase traits (15% more damage when adrenaline is full, 10% more damage when flanking the target, 10% more damage when endurance is full, 10% damage from Frost Spirit, 15% more crit damage from warrior’s banner). The only thing that begins to matter is DPS.
Then you see videos like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGJylZBKmos
That’s a level 80 dungeon. That ranger is using a glass build. That is a boss encounter that has a unique mechanic that is intended to give unique gameplay (rather than just DPS you are supposed to shoot the lasers and usually that means having to jump back up mid fight because the shield recharges). The doesn’t use his evasion skills on the weapon (sword 2 and 3), he doesn’t dodge once, he doesn’t reposition his character and he doesn’t even go down. Guild Wars 2 is a game built around active combat. You aren’t supposed to stand in one place, yet that’s exactly what is happening thanks to the zerker meta. Conversely other builds are working much harder and utilising the full breadth of the game’s combat mechanics to complete content because they can’t auto attack in melee range to a win in less than 30 seconds. The most efficient builds for most content are so efficient, they make the content easier.
It’s two problems.
- Zerker builds are so powerful they trivialise content. Being powerful is fine, rewarding glass is fine, but no cap was put on crit damage and the devs underestimated what % damage stacking could accomplish so now we see static gameplay. Crit damage needs a hard cap.
- Alternate builds are too weak. Condition damage is a weak stat and has players compete with each other. Unlike power builds, condition builds don’t have equal access to three DPS options (power builds have power precision and crit damage, condition builds have condition damage, precision to trigger condition procs and the third option is condition duration but there is no gear that hands out condition duration like you can get crit damage). The game is very lopsided in favour of berserker builds. If you are going to offer a variety of build types, it can’t be your intention to have one of them be dramatically better than the others.
Here’s an idea that I hope doesn’t get buried:
change the background in the character selection screen to reflect the current living story
In the entire process of booting up the game and logging in, This is the most visual and impactful thing you guys can change (I think) that clearly signals something is new in the game. It fills up the entire screen, and hypes the player for the new content. You’ll definitely notice, if last time you logged in there were floating ships, colorful banners, and a bright blue sky representing the bazaar of the four winds, but when you logged in this week, everything was a deep red and you see Divinity’s Reach in flames in the background (Maybe, clockwork chaos). I’ll be honest, I don’t read the text on the patching window.
This idea gets many, many thumbs up from me.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
I don’t play for rewards at all. Well…material ones anyway. I don’t do LS(or PS now). I don’t farm Orr/Frostgorge/Fractals/Dungeons. I don’t Champ farm. I don’t even have any crafting to 500, and only 3 at 400.
All I like to do is hang out with my server/guild mates in W3. That’s usually all I need to enjoy this game. The downside is I’m perpetually poor. 3k+ hours playing; never had more than 60g, never had a precursor, never even set foot in CoE yet lol. And my Fractal lvl is 6.
This may sound arrogant, but when I see players running around completing achievements like trained monkeys, I feel sorry for them. They all play right into ANet’s hands, mindlessly chasing meaningless titles and events. The farmers aren’t quite as bad, at least they are making money…which is useful. But it’s still depressing.
What a deluge of nonsense players have fallen into…
I troll because I care
I end up doing achievement related stuff that I don’t enjoy mainly because of the “never to be seen again” opportunity that exists with the 2 week release cycle and subsequent poofing of content. Want that quartz node? – better do it now because you can’t get it in a month.
Want that meta-achievement reward mini? – you’d rather play in a close WvW matchup this week instead of doing random Jps to find kites/caches? – too bad, do the JPs now or you can’t get the meta. This is sort of exactly what I was talking about. The only person pressuring you to get those things is you. The world is not going to end if you don’t get the node (also want to point out that they never said there wouldn’t be another chance to earn one), or if you’re missing a few minis in your collection.
Yes, I understand, you have the completionist bug. I know that feeling, I had it too. It can be beaten, but the only person that can the make the choice to play any other way is you.
You don’t want to play any other way? You want to get everything, you want to be a completionist, you say? Well, then that is your choice too. Buckle down and slog on.
How you play, what you choose to do are all choices made solely by you. You can choose to slog through content you don’t like for a useless shiny, or you can choose to ignore it because it’s not to your taste. No one else can make that decision for you. Not even Anet, they can entice you, but they cannot make you.
The pressure may be felt by the player, but it doesn’t originate with the player. Why? It is an effect of game design. Temporary content (here the achievements) with a time gate is grindy—by design. It can be thought of as providing an incentive for continued play. There are many elements of game design with a similar calculation such as vertical progression. One of it’s effects is to provide an incentive for continued play.
If you understand anything about gaming, you’ll be reluctant to blame the player for things like this. Game companies are masters of motivation. But, it can backfire when it is noticed as it is actually disrespectful of players. It burns goodwill.
Hello all, I looked into this because we intended to have a release note for the changes to the champion loot.
We did modify the gold and bloodstone dust coming from champion bags, and a release note will be added shortly.
What I can tell you is that we made a mistake, this one fell through the cracks and I’m truly sorry. I’ve promised before that we won’t make stealthy economic changes without notes and I mean to stick to that promise.
Thank you all for pointing out the error, we will be more vigilant in the future.
Good luck in your adventures.
I think its about time you started having audits on your work then. I am not blaming you directly. The patch notes where “forgotten” for the changes to Sylvari cultural armor and now the notes where “forgotten” when it comes to champ bag changes. This is getting a tad suspicious that such major changes are just randomly forgotten. I would also say the things that where forgotten where things that could easily upset the community.
I am getting a little sick of supporting a company that is so forgetful. I am thinking it might be time to start boycotting the gem store until Arena.net as a company gets it stuff worked out.
Thank you for reminding me why I stopped playing for 6 months? I came back with the champion farming in Frostgorge. There was finally reward for effort and time expended … now you turned it into an RNG lottery on if you will get any silver from the chest.
Most of those farming the champs were farming it trying to come up with the gold for a precursor. You remember that thing you were supposed to have fixed LAST YEAR to make it attainable by the masses. That same thing you won’t be fixing until 2014 now. The profoundly sad part is, at least on Yak’s Bend the group farming Frostgorge was made up of good people that were beyond dedicated to achieving their Legendary goals. In short you screwed a large group of not only dedicated gamers but polite ones as well (an uncommon thing in an MMO). Personally, I finished my Twilight and have enough for a 2nd, I am ranting on behalf of all those I see daily that will be severely impacted by this.
It’s official, you guys are the kings of leeching fun from a game.
I rather enjoyed the story in GW2 and feel very many did.
I’m afraid you’d be in the minority then.
I troll because I care
What frustrates me more is that the game launched with glaring shortcomings that it didn’t have in GW1. Yes, GW1 took a while to overcome the shortcomings, but I don’t understand why Anet needs to learn those things a second time over.
- Templates: everyone loved them. There was literally not a single downside to having them. It was one of the most brilliant things Anet ever implemented in GW1 and it made life so easy.
- A decent targetting system: I went and played GW1 earlier this week, out of nostalgia and I was blown away by how awesome GW1’s targetting system was. It’s like making dinner for someone one day and they say they really like it, and when they come over again, you think to yourself ‘you know what they would really like, if instead of just having dinner, I’ll put a big poop in the middle of the plate that they have to eat around, they’ll love it!’.
- Decent AI: like really. The AI (especially of the NPCs) in this game is so bad it kind of makes me ashamed. In GW1 you also had the ability to trick your NPC AI to follow you. This is especially frustrating in dungeons where you rely on the NPCs to trigger events. Either just make them afk characters like Kormir was, or give them decent AI. But don’t make them dumber than a bag of rocks, have them hit like a wet noodle and make them tanky as hell and then have entire dungeons rely on them. Or just re-introduce the system where you could ping a target and the NPC would follow the person that pinged the target.
- PvP modes: like really, how can you make a game that was universally hailed for their great PvP modes and then make a new game that has exactly 1 mode, and then the most boring of them all. And on top of that have the balls to say that you hope your game to become an esport with a straight face.
- A good story: GW1 story was amazing. I don’t have to remind you of the public opinion of the GW2 story…

Never cared, LW has never been presented in a way that I truly liked and the story is almost non existent. Been patiently waiting for them to go in a different direction.
The idea of an MMORPG that evolves and changes is great but i have seen little evidence that it’s happening.
Achievement points are a cheap trick to get people to keep coming back
The To-do lists tied to the AP are the same thing with a different name every update
None of the characters in the LS are interesting or memorable to me
New weapon skins and back items don’t matter to me because of RNG and all of the above.
I used to do my daily well daily but now i don’t, if I happen to get it from playing, great, other-wise who cares…
Fix the core game please! This what i play for.
Plan a true expansion too that would be awesome!
What’s done with these botting reports? Because I’ve reported it multiple times in game, but I’m not sure how the process works?
Nothing is done with them. I’ve tracked people who have been reported for teleport hacking (recorded them as well and provided). They were still doing it months later after the reports.
With the pacing of this game, don’t expect the report AFK feature any time soon:
It’s on the list.
It requires back end programming that takes alot of resources.
They’re having discussions about having discussions about it
They want to let the meta settle
They want the “BIG” tool tip changes to settle
They’ve known about the issue but don’t want to hurt the players afking too harshly so they are being very careful with potential fixes
It’s part of the glory rewards update, but first they needed to fix how glory was distributed within game modes they they are hypothetically testing which may or may not be released with the next 2 or 3 years.
I’m sure I missed a few more reasons, maybe someone can help me out.
There’s a difference between being entertained and being occupied.
Basically Anet is keeping us occupied. We have nothing to do so they give us things to do, because otherwise we might stop playing and if we stop playing we stop buying things. They’re forgetting that this is a game and that games should be entertaining.
For every 20 complaints theres this 1 post that says they love Anet. What does anet do? Deletes the 20 complaints and listens to the 1 post. Nek minut they loose 19/20 of their playerbase. You know its going to happen.
Some of us are just happy with a game that continuously changes the game world and adds new things and all for the low low price of……. free.
As a person who’s played some very bad MMO’s, this one is doing quiet well in keeping me entertained and wanting me to log in daily. Those bad MMO’s couldn’t do this for even a month after getting the game.
Continuously changing? Seriously?
I think you mean, adding temporary content. Nothing is “changing”. After a year, Scarlet invasions, and 1 new path in a dungeon are the only things that have “changed” the world with the LS….and really have not changed it much. Please let me know if I missed something.
The reason you want to log on everyday? Its called dailies. A shopping list of tasks they feed you in order to log in….so they can take the log-in numbers to the marketing department and spin it to suit there needs.
Once you hit 80, its all about zerging in open world, and WvW (something a monkey can do), and trying to skip as much content in dungeon and fractals in order to increase your time spent/reward. Sounds like work doesn’kitten It is.
All in order to get what? More items? More gold? More things for your character so you can sit in Lions Arch and look cool? Oh joy!
I really miss good PvE content, that took a bit of skill, and good group synergy to do. I really miss good open world PvP where its not just about who has the bigger zerg, but actual communication and group makeup. As of now, GW2 does not offer me any of that.
Anet needs to really think about where they are going. Adding yet another 2week of zerg this, zerg that, congratulations here is your back piece, is not going to cut it when other competitors release their games.
Side note: I remember when zerging something was laughed at in games. When it was a sign of bad players that throw numbers at a problem and let attrition win, because they could not think for themselves, or think outside the box. I noticed now in GW2 zerging is not only accepted, but embraced and encouraged, not just by the players but by Anet as well. Its like GW2 is becoming the first MMO with training wheels.
Hopefully with the great weapon skins and armor, they will see a lot of people buying gems, which will lead to “better”/more developed content in the future. I know the weapon skins got me to buy some gems this month, first time spending IRL money in a couple months.
I will never spend IRL cash on gems. I don’t support cash shops. If they want my money, they should release an expansion pack.
Can someone explain to me ap hunting? I personally dgaf about how many ap i have. I want them to make me log on because they put out good meaningful permanent content, not because i need to get these 100 ap.
hard enough to make them cry, not just rivers but oceans."
I no longer care about the Living Story updates, I really don’t.
I don’t care if I don’t get all achievements or minis.
Honestly, I’d rather wait 1-2 months and get no new content for 3-5 New Crystal Desert maps with new Dungeons and WELL WRITTEN story.
That fact that so many people love as well as hate Scarlet to me indicates they’re doing a great job with this “bad guy”. Love or hate, she’s making people care about her presence returning.
It’s the bad guys you never remember or don’t care at all if they return that suck. If Scarlet is getting under your skin for good or ill then they’re doing it right.
People are not hating her because she’s a well written character, doing unspeakable deeds or because of her in-game actions. They hate her because ANet have seen fit to make every part of the living story have the same plot: “Scarlet was behind it.” I could go behind a mastermind pulling the strings of various factions who were unaware they are being manipulated, but that is a level of subtlety of writing and plot development we aren’t getting with GW2. Which is a shame, since GW1 was much better on this regard (although I’m not saying GW1 plots were grand, RPG-type stories either. Just a lot better than GW2.)
Scarlet is cartoony, over-the-top, goofy and yet manages to be boring as well. For me her whole representation represents what I hate about the whole Living story: stale, uninteresting repetitiveness.

Stuff like this happens because there is virtually no communication between developers/artists and their customers. Give us polls, previews, public test servers so we could see what you are planning to do and then give you constructive feedback instead of just suddenly putting something in the game which turns out to be worse than it was before.
The reason why you didn’t see any feedback on the looks of the old armors was because people didn’t see anything to complain about and were happily playing the game. Only the very small minority come to the forums asking for changes.
The last patches sylvari cultural armor change got me thinking. What’s the point of grinding for skins and aesthetics when all that time and effort might get nullified every 2 weeks?
The reason why I picked Sylvari as my first race was the fact that I could mix and match different shades and colors, the way their cultural clothing looks like and how simple dyes can give completely different results on my armors. Now all of a sudden all that effort is gone. Completely out of the blue they changed how my armors react to different dyes, different shades and now even the most expensive dyes in the game look like they came out of the starter set.
I’ve been playing this game for 3,000 hours of which 2,500 hours I’ve spent on my main perfecting her looks. I’ve spent ludicrous amounts of gold and gems to get her to look like the way I like it. I’ve bought every single dye available in the game to be soulbound on one single character because of how differently every single dye reacted.
The thing that I’m worried about is that what’s the point of grinding for looks when it might look completely different the next day? Why get a legendary weapon when it might be a teddybear that shoots cottoncandy the next day.
If I’m buying something it is because I like the way it looks like now, not because it might look good in the future.
Or just report the people doing it with evidence attached, since it’s against the ToS from my understanding of it.
Yes i’m sure Anet will ban them for trying to earn the achievements that they just implemented to force them to karma train to get… Seems legit…
From my post about spvp broken leveling system:
At the moment the spvp leveling is like this :
Each ranks are segmented depending on the title you unlock. The progression is exponential : the total amount of ranking points needed to reach level 80 is :
8.971.500 for 80 levels so its an average of 8971500/80= 112143 ranking point /level
If Anet would have made a linear progression in spvp ranking that would be much better.
So let’s take around 100 000 ranking per level. When running a spvp match you can get around 200 ranking point per match per 15minutes on average time so it means to get a level considering the average value per level it will requires you to play 112143/200= 560 games per level each game duration is 15minutes so a 1/4 hours that means you ll need to achieve 560X1/4= an average of 140hours of game play per level.
The analysis is based on the total average time required if you go all the way to 80 I remember you.
140average hours X80 = 11200 hours of game play
In order to get to level 80 in a year so 365 days you would have to play everyday 30hours in a 24hours day long that is not even possible … 11200 hours is 466 full DAYS
??ANET WTF IS THAT ???? (24/7 plays 466days long in order to achieve it => what a freaking huge joke is that?)
You can compare the pve linear experience progression to the spvp one to see how broken is spvp leveling system.
I ll suggest Anet to change the spvp exponential progression for a linear one and reduce by 50% the average ranking points requirement to level up. 50k ranking per level on a linear progression line to 80 is the best way to fix this broken spvp progression mechanism. By the same way double the ranking points incomes per matchs + a daily reward extra ranking point bonus of 5 000 points or more. Then you have a FIX.
Fixing spvp sick requirements shouldn’t takes ages and is not impossible.
Seeing this analysis I doubt anyone found out about this because this should have been since start the best reason and subject for players to complain about.
My last word will be about this: I really don’t understand how a company can pay some programmers in order to design some game contents (finishers) unlockable after 3years of game play for 1% of the game population: it’s like designing a product that you expect noone to be able to afford it. This has no sense specially for a game. On a trade point of view you are not creating any value nor incomes going this way.
Anet can bring the grind spirit to a new level…… Sick sick sick…
I invite anyone who feel that this game design need to be FIX as soon as possible to post here and comment about the numbers you read.
Anet you need to tone down HARD the spvp leveling requirements and implement a linear progression this is beyond broken. Stop fake fixes that avoid the real long term issue of this game mode progression that I explain up here.

Great so now your rank points are tied to the huge amount of mentally challenged players you meet in hot-join.
Up to this point no one cared, you were still able to score high even if the team was not optimal.
With this change only last night I witness a game of lvl 50+ vs lvl 10-15… and who can blaim them? I tried to be the hero who went against them, ended up getting chased by 2 lvl 60 thieves for the entire game (was not fun). -)
I think these changes are good, but not for hot-join. The only way this can work, is if you fix the way auto-balance works, so you don’t get steamrolled non stop (or swapped to losing team).
New hot-join mentality: if you can’t beat them, join them
Players are going spectate mode to force auto-balance then they swap to winning team.

Hey Angel, after you got bored and left, I think Nysc left, then Lavish bailed and then me. I agree with what you feel. I hope Arena.net reads this and the 50 other posts. I doubt it though.
They have some internal issues regarding management or something I believe. I also dont care if I get infracted. Should focus more on the game content then trying to protect their reputation everytime someone calls them out on their mistake. Boom yeah that just happened.
can and do speak to unicorns.” (Arrow The

The title say it all here another patch that has very little story content (10min instance) with a mind numbing zerg after the fact. The sad part is I enjoy zerging down bosses but all we have done since Scarlet was introduced is run from one zone to the next zerging bosses.
The content feels extremely shallow and to tell you the truth I feel like there is more effort put into the gem shop items then items for us. The npc’s got epic weapons a sick staff and a nice ax/dagger combo. That will most likely be introduced to the cash shop. The armors that came with this update are ehhh but once more cash shop only item. Then we come to the new weapon skins which look ok, guess what cash shop rng only.
I am starting to feel let down and frustrated by Arena.net and the sad thing is my friends are feeling the same way. Games are suppose to be fun and exciting this game only keeps me around cause of friends who are slowly dropping off.
