I’m a roleplayer and I approve this message. Un-instanced Salma is an awesome place to RP!
I don’t really care , but I do wonder out of curiousity why they would go to deliberate efforts to keep people out. Is it damaging in anyway to have people in that specific area? Just seems impractical for an entertainment company to make deliberate changes to limit something that was fun for their clientele.
Or maybe one of the designers was once ostracized by role players because his armor didn’t match and now has some sort of personal vendetta against them all?
It seems a shame to block off an area that physically already exists in game, and already has so much design work and development put into it. The designers, programmers and artists put quite a bit into making the home instances beautiful, and as RPers we’d love to be able to enjoy them more. But its hard to do when you can only join all at once in a party, or not at all. Being able to go to an uninstanced version of these places allows larger groups to show up, people to come and go, and everyone to be able to enjoy these areas that have had such efforts put into them. I don’t understand why there seems to be a need to block these places from being accessed. It would be wonderful if there were uninstanced versions of all of them easily available to players, so that they could RP there, enjoy the setting, and so on. Obviously instances need to exist for story quests and the like, but those do in zones as well. It seems like so much work being lost to restrict home areas like Salma to instance only, and opening these places up to allow them to be instanced OR uninstanced would make many in the RP community very happy. We love the game and we want to enjoy more of it!
Developers of Guild Wars 2,
Roleplayers like these people and myself, and others alike us, love roleplay in Uninstanced Salma District. We can all agree on this I am certain. It adds another tavern, and even a hospital to use until we’re old and grey, and lying in our deathbeds. We’ve tried to get in there, and if you continue to put up more walls it not only makes it harder for us, but it makes us limit our roleplay. Meaning, we won’t be able to use that extra tavern, the extra space, the hospital for when our characters come home from battle.
I understand we can still use Salma, but for only five people at a time. What if an entire Guild holds a meeting, or an event, and Salma would be the perfect spot? It’s entirely impossible.
We ask you to delete the invisible walls, for it not only makes your job harder, but our job as players/roleplayers as well. Free Uninstanced Salma.

Who cares if another game had grind? It’s the grind in this game that was being discussed.
For me, a long grind kills the game. I like playing different classes and different builds on those classes. Grindy BIS gear makes it so I don’t even want to get started trying something else out. There’s no way I’m going to get yet another set of ascended if I do like it. So why bother.
(Oh and I really appreciate the Karma nerf as well).
Don’t you read these forums? You don’t need ascended gear to enjoy any aspect of this game! Who cares if you’re getting stomped by people in full ascended which gives them a significant statistical advantage over you? LOL, this game isn’t about grinding or having he best gear! It’s about having fun!
LOL, you’re just stuck in the mindset ingrained in you by those other MMOs. Ascended gear doesn’t matter! LOL
Yep. Funny how half the forums say your a terrible gamer if you run with 1 piece of knights gear (it’s sub-optimal you know) and the other half insist that ascended gear doesn’t matter.
Ok, I’m sat in a hotel in San Francisco this week, so I’m away from my gaming pc and needed something to do, so I resubbed to WoW and as the guy above says, the “Grind” in GW2 is actually worse than WoW now
In one evening I took my 85 warrior to 90, geared for LFR through doing the new dungeons, then geared for raiding over a few nights (not completed, but already got two armour piece and new weapon) with the LFR
When GW2 is actually HARDER to get the highest level gear than games like WoW, there is a massive shift and not a good one
Now we all know, FOR A FACT, that the manifesto was out the window early on (although it would have been nice to know that on day one of release rather than after the games 1st b’day), but GW2 does have incredible grind

Part 2:
The removal of culling was a very welcome update, but the game still lags horribly on full maps. WvW on reset night is a nightmare. I realize server optimization is a difficult problem, but it’s been a year.
Speaking of WvW, the Bloodlust addition is Orbs 2.0. It was, I think, supposed to discourage zerging and give roamers and small groups something to do, but I have mixed feelings about how it’s working in practice. I think it has, at least, made WvW a little more dynamic, but it’s done little to change the underlying dynamics of zerging that many complain about. And the W-exp buffs are simply unfair: character bound, fairly powerful, hard to obtain without participating in the capture train for W-exp, which further encourages zerging. The entire reward structure leaves much to be desired.
Communication with the community is abysmal. Anet keeps its people on a very tight leash. They do not interact much with the community on the forums or anywhere, and when they do, it’s usually in the form of canned, sanitized responses. There is much ambiguity and very little honesty. They frequently announce changes which garner a large negative reaction and implement them anyway, without discussion or modification.
Anet would probably say that I should appreciate what has already been fixed or added to the game, that I should be patient, that they are trying to do more than other games and things move more slowly overall as a consequence. I would agree with them, but I think that trying to be too much for too many is becoming, increasingly, a detriment to the game instead of a benefit. It has been very profitable for them so far, and the so-called “casual player” will appreciate the diversity of activities and play styles that are available, but I think more dedicated players are left wanting more depth and polish.
It’s not that I think there has been no positive development since launch. The dungeon reward revamp I sort of like, because it diminished the primacy of CoF p1; on the other hand, DR on dungeon tokens was met with justified criticism. The wallet and UI improvements were not bad. I haven’t tried the LFG tool yet, but it’s also good to have in the game. And so on. However, I’ll say again: I think the game is trying to do too much.
I have tried to be as constructive as possible in my criticism here. GW2 was an excellent value for money and I would buy it again. I am writing this post because I still like the game and think it has potential to be really great, but I think a lack of transparency and direction is causing it to suffer. I welcome your responses.
Getting new players into WvW is not a bad thing…..
If they are there to help your server win, I agree.
If they are there to simply hunt achievements, then it is a bad thing.
I troll because I care
Please remove the ridiculous new achievements from W3, they are ruining the gameplay in it. WvWvW(W3) has a very strong community and is arguably the finest aspect of the entire game. It’s hallmark being the level of inter-server competition and intra-server cooperation, tier populations notwithstanding.
The introduction of dozens of new achievements has caused not only an influx of new players into the Borderlands who don’t care about the match-up, but it creates a queue nightmare in which very few guilds are getting their members in. This leads to a breakdown of server effectiveness in which the carefully laid plans and group builds become insignificant and pointless.
W3 may have been intended as a PvE light combat zone, but the reality is that the PvP here is the most competitive aspect of the game by far. Trying to force some kind of PvE meta into W3 with these achievement carrots is not only wrong, but game-breaking. Leave the achievement rat-race in PvE; it’s not needed, nor welcome here.
I troll because I care
Amazing as in hyper laggy blob fests where you just follow someone with a tag over their heads mindlessly for hours?
Roaming WvW has been sacrificed at the altar of “WTF were you thinking” and the WvW players can’t even play the one aspect of the game they enjoyed because of all the achievement players locking them out.
PvE players ‘enjoy’ killing with the same predictable pve mobs over and over again … of course you are going to ‘enjoy’ what they have turned WvW into.
80 Necromancer (IRNY), 80 Guardian (IRNY)
GW2: it’s like DAoC, but for the WoW crowd.
Should just remove the AP next time.
No support. Would reduce the value of legendaries.
…Impossible for actual wvwers to play the game mode they love. 3-5 hour queues because achievement hounds have flooded the maps. No real fighting force can even play in wvw now. It is just a mess and if you wanted rewards to be tied to wvw you SHOULD HAVE MADE BADGES ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING USEFUL.
I think the new Ascended gear is just horrible. I don’t know what they were thinking when they came up with it. The Ascended weapons are so dull so I expected the gear would be worse. I wasn’t wrong.
You’d think for something you have to actually work hard for would have something creative, but I was wrong there.
It could be like that on purpose.
Here’s the breakdown:
Make kittenty looking weapons and armours that are BiS, meaning people would want them for various reasons. Before and during the release of weapons and armours, put Transmutation Crystals on sale so people will buy them after previewing the sets. +sales
We already saw this happen for the weapons. Watch it happen when the armours come in as well.

completely agree, the story should be in-game, if it isn’t it doesn’t exist. not having it in-game is just lazy.

If I don’t see it happen in the game, it didn’t happen.
I’m just trolling your whining server mates. Why? Because I can’t hear it anymore. You always complain. You stack your server and win against SoR and JQ your server fills the forums with “BEASTGATE” and stuff. If you don’t win you start a whine parade against the server who beat you “It’s so unfair, you stacked your [NA/OCX/SEA/EU]” and start a big crowd funding campaign while blaming SoR or JQ for overstacking.
Maybe you should start muting those players. I don’t call names, because you know them yourself.
It’s a game, all T1 servers are stacked, there is no superlative of stacked. The majority of JQ wants good fights and we didn’t make that schedule nor do we like it. So please don’t blame us.

This just prevents people playing tournaments to play hot join while waiting. Sure you can play hot join, but you won’t be able to get any rank points there since you probably won’t be till the end of the match.
we have no idea what is going on, so there are no chances for twists later down the line
This is probably the most important thing certain game developers seem to be missing.
“Mystery” requires a plot. A plot where you don’t know everything, but a plot none the less. Right now the only mystery is “what the kitten is the plot?”
I think the point of this thread (and correct me if I’m wrong), is that the game has take a huge turn from what it was originally intended to be since beta.
It’s not a matter of just those skill videos, it is a matter of the game as a whole. People are disheartened because the game they were sold, is not the game we have today. And for some, that is a bad thing. They wanted what was advertised to them, what they were sold on, what they saw in the betas and release. Not what we have now.
And it makes them sad to see what has become of what they once enjoyed.

Those Video were made when the Manifesto was still in effect. Those are the original Guild Wars 2 videos.
What the game is now is Ascended Grind Wars 2. Different game.
I hope it involves scarlet. Anet need to give some hint about her agenda, and i hope it’s good. 9 months of living world updates and no clear motives yet.
Yeah like Scarlet trying to land her Aetherblade ship at the krait obelisk then suddenly her ship is struck by some krait magic and she just dies randomly. A krait then walks by Scarlet’s corpse and wears her wig.
…unless it ends up involving Scarlet.
Precisely the reason I’m not getting my hopes up for this whatsoever…
I’m talking about the recipes to make the items. Gift of Souls, Gift of the Moon, and Gift of Spiders.
In game, players are saying to make the recipes it takes 100, not 10.
I am looking at Recipe: Gift of Souls, Recipe: Gift of the Moon, Recipe: Gift of Spiders, Gift of Souls, Gift of the Moon, and Gift of Spiders. Both the items and the crafting/mystic forge recipes themselves. No where does it say it takes 100 instead of 10. Players talking in game are incorrect based on the bad information from the update notes.
Someone makes a typo, we bring it up. A forum mod/dev reads it and thinks ‘this can’t be right…’ and emails the appropriate people to confirm this is a typo. They take a while to email back because busy with other stuff/out of office/forgot to have outlook open, then a day later the reply comes through.
That’s right! In this case, the issue of “players think this is too expensive” was raised to the coordinator of the team that worked on this update. He then raised that issue to me, the point of contact for all rewards. I said “Holy monkey face, that’s not what it was when I reviewed that stuff! Poop! What happened!? We gotta fix that asap!” and started an email thread about how to fix it, who should fix it, when we could get it into a hotfix, if we should kill switch the recipe to prevent anyone from doing it before we fix it, and discussions about pulling data in case we needed to do a refund for any poor souls who might have already done it. Then we asked the designer on that team to get in the fix and start working it through the approval process to hotfix it. It was at that point when the designer said “but it is already at 10 on Dev, not 100”. We verified that was the case in the Live code and I immediately hopped on here to post that it was a simple update notes typo while the community team worked to update the update notes. I think a days turn around is actually pretty good and I am very pleased that it was not a problem in the code, but rather a simple update notes typo.
Everything is a process. We work really hard to listen to our playerbase and be responsive to their needs. Time is always a mitigating factor and even information takes time to move from one place to another.
You sound like the American government.
Hey guys, looks like the update notes were incorrect. These recipes do not require 100 of the mega materials, they require 10 (that’s 10,000 not 100,000 fangs/skulls/nougat). Sorry for the confusion! We are getting the update notes fixed!
Are you fixing them in game as well?
Because whether the updates notes say 10 or 100, the items in game say 100. So changing the update notes won’t matter unless you fix them in game as well.
And if this was a mistake, then why wasn’t it fixed awhile ago when this was first mentioned in all the threads complaining about it? Why wait until now to admit this was incorrect instead of yesterday when this issue was brought up?
because Anet?… or human error?no use complaining now unless they dont fix it
My concern is this.
They created a big ol’ thread on collaborative development and how they listen to our feedback and read the threads on these forums.
Yet since this update launched, people have been upset with the amount of grind required to get these weapons. There has been a lot of threads on this same subject in this section. All of them talk about how you need 100,000 materials to make these items. Numbers up the wazoo in all these threads about this “bug”.
The problem is, if this was indeed a “bug” that needed to be “fixed”, and if they do indeed read the threads and listen to our concerns/feedback, why wasn’t this brought up the instant it became an issue? If they honestly do read the threads and listen to us, they should/would of known about this the second we brought it up.
The event has been out for well over a day now, and they are just now acknowledging this “error”? An “error” that we have been talking about a lot since this event first started? Right away this raises the flag that they really aren’t listening to us and really don’t read the threads, or else they would of known about this “error” and would of done something about it yesterday instead of now (seeing as this is a rather large “error”).
And just to add a little fyi here, we didn’t get a patch in game for this, and asked around in game, and it is still 100k to make, not 10k.
