"PvP Glory and Rank Rewards Revised"

They tried this in GW1 and in JQ you’d sometimes get 7 out of out players AFKing. Also what is the point in gaining rank if your actual skill does not factor in at all? Not happy with this, I’d much prefer bans to cheaters.

10 minute instance and Zerging

Going to keep this short. Logged on after a week of not being on. Found the instance alright. I landed into a Zerg after I left the instance. Decided I’ll leave the grind to when I can be bothered. Joined up with a few guildies where we started to do the achievements for about 10 minutes. We had 3 people leave because “Its not really fun”. Being kind of a hunter for achievements I realized, they were right and I left. Wont be logging on for anything but guild events.

This is the exact same thing as Halloween. Its a small instance that takes 5-10 mins and Dynamic events with commanders who lead 50-100 people. Just got so bored in the 20 minutes I played. It’s a game and I’m supposed to have fun…I just didn’t. I hope the rest of you are.

We have some thing that will be in the tests for the new map that will help WvW be more alt-friendly. We will talk more about it as we get closer to the test actually beginning.

Anything that isn’t account bound wvw ranks is the wrong solution, end of story.

Request: Questionarie at the end of every living story, like the ones you had in the open beta.
Reasons: You’d get more player feedback instantly, forums can never compare to that.

If Legend of Zelda came out tomorrow, the usual
forum dwellers would go nuts about the need to
“grind” to get exp, new swords, new potions etc

The living story just feels not epic. I as a player feel like a merc instead of a hero.
I feel replaceable, in a world that is endangered by dragons, I run around and do useless stuff. Why ain’t we going to confront them now, they will only get stronger.

Scarlet is a weak villain, she just feels random. Her character does not fit to the mastermind she is sold as. And she is no dragon. That is a weakness too.

For a year, Zhaitan is dead, for a year the Pact is rotting in fort trinity. Why did the living story ignore everything that was built up by the personal story. It does not feel like a new arc, but like a different game. I do not miss Trahearne, but I miss to be in a cutscene, being part of the story, not just part of the events.

The personal story was sold as one of the pillars, but it is gone, nothing personal at all with the living story.

This is another problem with Anet’s lazy balancing. They don’t want to have to balance skills differently for pvp/pve, so they are trying to find a middle ground. End result is conditions are weak in pve and absolute god mode in pvp.

I’m sorry. I’m a bit bothered at the fact that a developer would respond to this thread and completely ignore what people are talking about.

“I can’t see anything because of particle effects, and I’ve been complaining about this from beta” -Players

“Hey guys, we’re going to streamline the UI. You’re gonna love. K’bye” -Dev

What is that about? Am I out of line for being a little upset by this? Are we going to get all technical and do the whole “but the OP said”? What about the discussion and the major problem?

ArenaNet does NOT play Guild Wars 2. This can’t be.

I remember when Total Biscuit brought this issue up on his video cast during beta, saying it needed to be toned down.

I quite agree.

And unlike other games, there is no way to turn it down to a reasonable level or off.

Guild joke since beta: apparently ANet believes the “skill” required by players is finding the target. :p

Yes, so the only actual improvement in GW2 is the persistent world, and even that is still somewhat instanced as you can only get from one zone to another through portals. (See WoW for how to do it right.) The only other advantage I can think of for GW2 is the AH – and that’s also not nearly as good as in many other MMOs. Everything else in GW2 is worse or at least no better than GW1. That’s just… sad.

Yes I really think they made a colossal mistake in leaving out the best parts of the original game: the skill depth & variety, the amount of build choice through secondary classes, skill capping, elite skills, mobs using player skills with decent AI.

As with any software product, the bits you replace have to be better than the bits you’re replacing, and in GW2, they aren’t.

This is not whining due to how to earn the gear. It is the principle of the matter. When a game is advertised as a horizontal progression game like it predecessor you don’t add a vertical jump in the game 3 months after lunch and try to claim it was on the table to begin with.

I don’t ever remember then advertising it as a Horizontal progression game with no vertical progression. In the article that another posted above from the Eurogamer, they even stated they never said there would be no vertical progression. Looks like to me people made assumptions and somehow they turned into “facts”

Very false. They did advertise this game as a horizontal end game. They did so for years. They discussed and commented on this while it was still in the very early alpha stages of what they called “Guild Wars: Utopia”. I waited years for this game to come out and kept up with every bit of news as I possibly could. It was advertised as a skill based game with the end game focusing on a visual grind not stat grind.

Then 3 months into the game (note this is the time a vast majority of the pro player base has left ~aka the old super leet Guild Wars 1 guilds~) they completely gave up with what they had touted for 2 years plus and just started doing whatever would make the most money.

Tada temporary bs living story crap. Made just to add more things to the gem store to get you to buy them. You can not even being to say that the living story updates are even remotely decent in terms of game play and lore. They are nothing more than short zerg fests from here to there. The only update that had any remotely decent things in it was the Pavilion and even then, it was horribly done.

Lets end with the biggest pile that this game has, BUGS. Bugs from the early stages of BETA that have not been fixed. I don’t know about you guys, but I would be severely embarrassed if I made a game and just left it completely in beta/alpha stage. Just to name a few that have not been fixed since the launch of the game.

-Warrior Fast Hands Bug: When dropping banners via weapon switching, your weapon swap will go on cool down without actually swapping your weapons.

-Rush: Does not track correctly. Can not hit a target that simply moves left to right.
(oh, they updated it to make it smoother? yeah didn’t fix the problem. Words are different from actions.)

-Eathshaker: Does not hit targets who are slightly higher than player character. As in 0.001 units higher on the hill.
etc..

The list goes on and on for multiple classes for multiple different things. Lets not forget that slayer potions didn’t actually work for a couple of months and instead of giving you the 10% bonus to your damage, you got a +10% bonus to taking damage, yay!

Stop trying to white knight this game. There are huge problems even if you care to realize them or not.

GW2 PvP/WvW...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ahlen.7591

Ahlen.7591

my biggest problem with WvW is there is little to no strategy its whoever brings the biggest Zerg wins there is no way for a smaller group to outplay a larger group.

AND the only viable strat in WvW is Stacking and moving together as a giant clusterf*** of crap through a fight. in every other MMORPG that offers massive WvW type fights, a group doing that would get cursed at and told “stop being noob zerglings and spread out!”

but in GW2 is perfectly viable and infact the dominant tactic.

This is really mostly due to downstate.

Downstate means that blobbing/zerging is the most effective, because either you rally from all the crazyness, or your zerg resses you afterward.

If they removed downstate it would be less swingy, and the greater skilled group could actually beat the outnumbering group.

Is a failure IMHO.

Why?

sPvP

1. Look at the Mists on all servers. What a waste of space. All different kinds of target/dodging dummies, a few NPC with Ranger pet AI intelligence to fight against. Anet you want players in the Mist. Open up player dueling and you’ll see numbers start to climb immediately.

2. One full year of only mediocre Conquest maps have pushed away Players from dire boredom with no quality reward system for all that time put into it.

3. No changes to sPvP trinkets and condition mechanics force all professions into cookie cutter AoE condition spamming builds ?.

4. The wak-a-mole Profession revamps to Nercos, Warriors, Thieves when professions like the Elementalist, Ranger and Engineer still have mechanic and bugs issues from Beta that not been fixed.

5. Trying to profit off an unfinished product (Spvp) is just bad business.

WvW

1. WvW is the only place for PvXer to PvP. PvXers enjoy fighting players on a smaller scale which doesn’t mean put an sPvP obstacle course in the middle of the borderland.

2. WvW large group fights on a competitive level only involve 4 professions: Hammer Warriors, Hammer/Condition Removing Guardians, Staff Elementalists and Staff/Plauge Necros. A mesmer or two are need for Veil but that is it. No one welcomes Rangers, Thieves, Engineers or even up-levels in competitive WvW play yet I bet up-levels of the 4 main WvW professions would be more welcome than Ranger, Thieves and Engineers.

3. We hunger for PvP not standing in towers or in front of them dancing around arrowcart fire most of the time in WvW.

4. GvG is a creature of the lack of PvP gamemodes in GW2

5. Leagues will only push players away because of the server population disparates.
GW2 is not a good PvP game and that is a major reason why players have left in legions. ANet, the problem is that your vision of this game is just bad for it. This is not the Field of Dreams where: “If you build it, they will come. This is the real world: if you build it and don’t improve it properly; people will get bored of it, than leave it. Most players once they leave a MMO they have played for a while will never come back.

My beef with GW2 is the profession development favoritism and the slow turtle speed of balance changes proves that this game is not a serious PvP game and should have never been advertised or treated as one.

I was really excited for this patch...

Apparently, they are still getting mileage out of the 2 week update schedule as they are still trumpeting it loudly as a value add. I’ve always thought that a short development cycle was a bad idea, even when it was one month. I would much prefer a 3 month cycle with permanent content, permanent achievements, deeper story, and more attention given to core game.

I believe a lot of the burn out is around temporary content, and specifically temporary achievements. Achievements tied to content are great and there is no pressure to complete them if there is no time window. I suppose that if your intention is to create a grindy game then time gating everything would be a good idea, but GW wasn’t supposed to be a grindy game. But, beyond the grindiness, it’s simply a bad way to model an evolving world. Our world is constantly changing and yet there is a permanence to it—it doesn’t come and go in fits and starts. They need to find a better model for the living world and I would suggest they start with our IRL living world. I actually would prefer an evolving world to an expansion as it seems more natural and less cataclysmic. It would, however, require that they change the way they think about LS/LW.

There seemed to be a lot of interest in LS and evolving the living world in the collaborative development thread so perhaps we will be able to more formally process this. And, I do remember that Colin gave a mention of the issue in his blog and it does seem that they are aware of the issue. But, it will be an issue until there are some concrete steps away from temporary content on a 2 week schedule and we haven’t seen any yet.

Whining about Queue? Read this

Carize.8532

Hey people,
for few weeks Anet was telling you that moving to T1 is not good idea.
They also made some free transfers so you can move from overpopulated servers.
Nobody cared about it that time.

And it is not Anet fault. I dont see people from Bronze league whining about queues. Rarely i see people from silver league. And there are servers you moved from.
There was queue before start of the leagues. You count count with queues after start of the league, but you still moved there or stayed there. It is not Anet fault.

ps: i am not Anet fanboy, i rarely agree with them, but this is just true. We in bronze are laughting about queues in T1 and about your whining

I’ve been on Jade Quarry since this game opened and I’ve had queues before, no doubt. But these queues are longer, and less likely to let you into WvW than I’ve ever experienced. So I’m on a Tier 1 server, I deserve what I get? That’s the way you behave while expecting others to have sympathy for your supposed plight of getting facerolled each time your 4 man guild steps out of spawn?

Go on and keep laughing. We don’t mind. Stay jealous of the fact that other servers might have wait times….but we also have fights. Not just tumbleweeds blowing across the sad, dusty, deserted borderlands like you so self-righteous Tier-Who-Cares, No-One-Pays-You-Any-Attention servers.

Bianca Helios, Ele :: Ganna Shouztu, Ranger :: Selad Mahen, Necro :: Rowan Nightseer, Warr
Melodic Whisper, Thief :: Mephelotic Phantasm, Mes :: Xoboda, Guard :: Plikkik, Engi

The OPS’s post pretty much its the nail on the head.

I feel pretty confidently that what’s causing most of the ire surrounding this game is that there is way too much focus on the Living Story at the expense of pretty much everything else in the game. The pace of releases is too rapid, causing many people to just stop caring and jump ship, and the heavy focus on it means there isn’t enough development focused on meaningful growth of the game in the ways most people want to see (new zones, dungeons, weapons, skins, skills, traits, etc.)

It’s fine if they want to do a “living world” concept but the focus of should be quality over quantity, and opening up new areas to explore, not temporary content (which should always be a minority of new content). Otherwise, as said above, the game doesn’t actually grow any and not only starts feeling stale to existing players, but also turns away returning players, which is what they should be working hard to attract.

On top of that, persistent and frequent class balancing is one of the most important aspects of any MMO (because the character is the primary focus of any player), and Anet is failing massively hard here. Not only do they clearly not have enough resources dedicated to it, but the resources they do have are… not great. Feedback is typically ignored while changes are frequently myopic, inconsistent, and/or trivial. There are quite a few things in the game that are clearly out of whack and haven’t been touched since launch. It’s really not a healthy status quo.

I have to say too that after playing Marvel Heroes the last few months and spending a lot of time on their forums, the difference is night and day in terms of community interaction and real response to feedback. It makes this whole thing look really bad in comparison and explains the majority of why there’s so much rage on the forums- the MH forums are comparatively quite positive and friendly despite the fact that the game has a lot of shortcomings it’s still working on.

Anet wants to shift the blame to an ungrateful playerbase, but it really falls more on their shoulders for questionably management. I still have optimism for this game though and faith that it can morph into something great; let’s all keep our fingers crossed for year two.

Excellent post.

As a former game developer, I’ve been defensive of ANet, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. The video wherein ANet employees couldn’t find an old, oft-used Ranger trait, and where both devs acted bored about the class — well, that destroyed my faith. I’m not one to kitten about my class, but that video was pathetic and dispiriting for people who favor rangers. Some of us, most of us, take the class seriously.

This “balance patch” did little to increase class or build diversity for any class.

As for content updates, they are beyond disappointing. The world is far from living. The stories are disconnected for players, and Scarlet invasions only reinforce zerging as a primary form of play.

I still enjoy many aspects of the game, and plan to stick around for awhile. But with so many games on the market, GW2 should strive to be more.
