I kept saying that the fix is likely a huge buff (to even out the health overflow change) but people just ridiculed me and kept going on overdramatically about the supposed “huge nerf”.

Just outright nerfing Death Shroud would make absolutely no sense.
I, for one, would put as much support as I could behind a hammer necro, if, as suggested, it includes golf-swing-punting jagged horrors at enemies.

I, for two, would love to see a Hammer Necro. I really really want to a have a true debuff, denial, control Necro available.
But! Golf-punting minions at enemies? Pure. Genius.

I have played Necromancer since Beta and the recent change was good/bad but the main issues that I have is that there was only a bug fix for DS and no compensation for the loss of our only blocking ability. Death Shroud is now a second life bar and since that is the case now these are the changes I want for compensation
List of Changes
1. Healing in Death Shroud
2. Utilities available in DS
3. An actual number of the amount of life force we have left(it can only show up while using it for all I care if its to complex to code)
4. Swaping weapons in DS ( was said it was going to be “fixed” no word from a dev about it since)
5. Signets work while in DS(currently in the Bug Compilation MkII)
6. And last but not least the fix for the locked out of utilities (My #2 change could help with this)
These changes are overly reasonable and would help with our survive ability.

Honestly I think I’d rather try to get warriors nerfed. This is one of the few MMOS where melee (relatively tanky) DPS always outshines ranged-squishy DPS significantly. What the point of binging my beloved elementalist or necromancer to dungeons when I a warrior can just press 2 to do 28K damage in seconds. Sure with a lightning hammer set up with ele and a mightstack rotation you can get almost half of that, but still, I don’t really like melee professions and I hate how the game in PvE is balanced and favored around them.

well, maybe not you, but I still will be playing my necro. I enjoy him far more then any other class, it’s funny how people gravitate to a class just because they’re considered “Op” in one way or another and then get kitten and leave the class when it receives a few nerfs. I just adapt and if it’s that bad yes I move on but I still try my best to deal with the new changes instead of moving to the next FoTM class.
After today the necro will never be seen again in pvp or wvw……

The awkward thing is, we know that DS hp is %based relative to our actual hp. If we now take enough dmg to knock us out of DS, is it safe to assume that some hits will one-hit KO us regardless of DS? In which case, DS is only for gimmicky LF+torment and a couple of might stacks.
What i’d like to know is: what triggered this change?
They just removed one of the most fun mechanics of being a necro.

Other classes have invulnerability potentially negating INFINITE DAMAGE. And now we cannot BLOCK A SINGLE MIGHTY BLOW, anymore with our ONLY WAY to MITIGATE damage? Anet you suck. You definitely don’t main necro’s. You have a tunnel vision of playing against them.
Guardian/warrior for the win? seems so. Guardian so far seems the most nerf resistant, cause it fits casual player and they like their casual custumors most (confusion nerf anyone? hahahaha). Guess i should play guardian.
And the jumping thing was one of the few reasons i liked necro so much. It may be unfair to otherclasses, but then again permanent vigor (necro has no option even to have it), good access to stability/block/mobility skills are also unfair to necro. It balanced out. Now you unbalanced again necro to the bottom tire. All my effort to main necro last weeks for nothing. I want a refund Anet…

Since the incoming patch is going to take away our ability to tank infinite falling damage with Death Shroud, I hereby declare today to be Jump-Off-A-Cliff Day! All Necros are encouraged to find the highest cliffs in the land and jump off them, making sure to pop into DS before landing of course. While we’ll still be able to do this sort of thing with Spectral Walk by double-tapping it before we hit the ground, this is your last chance to survive epic falls without having to spec for it.

Im in the same boat and am currently building up a warrior. Necro’s were always kinda bad for PvE, and now terrible.
Conditions builds have low direct dmg compared to other classes, and have their own penalties such as stack limits, a terrible startup time, poor structure dmg, and condition removal/transfer. Ele’s will outclass a necro in AoE dmg in many if not all cases. dmg output on zerker is out classed by warriors who also happen to get nice team based skills like “For Great Justice!” These other classes also get access to stun breakers and such.
To add insult to injury, we get nerfed. I know a bunch of depressed necro’s ceasing to exist is kinda a part of the theme of a necromancer, but come on arenanet, throw us a bone so we can use it to destroy stuff on par with the rest.
Well…time to role a new class, that was really my favorite party, it was fun!

Damage taken while in death shroud will now overflow to the necromancer’s health pool if the damage taken is greater than the remaining life force.

I ALWAYS suspected this was the case, I knew they couldn’t be burning me down from 100% DS so quickly!
I’m not massively pleased with the rest of the patch contents (especially the terror nerf), but I think this alone will make a big difference to us!
Also, guys, I’d calm down a bit.
We don’t know how much the DS damage fix will affect the actual gameplay, it might be quite good.
We don’t either know how new base marks will perform ingame.So there is no reason to cry that much until we try those changes out.
Its a fair change for pvp. But in pve necros have no invuln, blocks, vigor or extra evades. And now DS cant be used to absorb boss attacks unless you stack PVT gear….
Death shroud fall damage nerf – lame. Really, really lame.
Death shroud bug fix – good, but who knows how good since Anet didn’t disclose how much extra damage we were taking.
Spectral changes – mixed.
Staff mark sizes and GM – possibly or probably a buff.
Terror damage – really disappointing, Anet made a really bad choice here.

As the title states. What was the reasoning behind the death shroud nerf? Necro have no real escapes outside dodge…I don’t see the reasoning with this…
They didn’t want a Necromancer to counter a one-shot style attack with the last dregs of their life force.
Well, aren’t they a little late to decide that? This has been the case forever. It was one of the few things that kept us alive in the front lines for more than few seconds.

Necros can’t suicide-jump off cliffs anymore. That’s about the only real DS-nerf here.
On the other hand, they fixed a bug that apparently was letting Necros take more damage from direct attacks while in DS. So I’d say the survivability is now INCREASED. Not even talking about the faster generation of life force through spectral skills and axe 2.
Spoken like someone who has never played a necro… go back to ele or guard, leave the skilled players alone…

wont the death shroud changes completely screw us over in pve? now we have practically no defence against bosses 10-20k hits since we completely lack block/evade skills.
It was fun while it lasted.

Jumping off cliffs was not broken! It was an extremely niche strategy mostly useful for clever escapes in WvW (where the Thief still has better escapes). It was also fun.
