[Spoiler] Eir in HoT? [Spoiler]

in Lore

Konig Des Todes.2086

Eir Stegalkin, leader of Destiny’s Edge, who bravely battled both Kralkatorrik and Zhaitan, falls to a mere minion with fear on her face and no weapon in her hand.

She deserved so much better.

That wasn’t fear, but pain – then bold acceptance.

Also keep in mind that she was being starved since the moment of her capture, so she was already weakened – unlike when she fought Kralkatorrik and Zhaitan.

Mind you, I wish she didn’t die. It was overly predictable to the point of “-facepalm- Yup, she’s going to die.” but even I’ll admit that her death was pretty epic. Rather, it’s a shame the Vinetooth died so fast and easily. It’s a bit of a blow when Vinetooths become a rare veteran in the next map though – they should have kept it more unique.

IMO, though, Eir got the death that Tactician Beirne should have gotten. Separated from comrades and facing down a powerful dragon minion alone.

Anyone who’s read the first chapter of the first Guild Wars 2 book knows that even no-name Norn go down fighting. Eir didn’t get that.

She had just stood up to face her foe when it impaled her. She didn’t get the chance to go down fighting – thanks to Faolain. But rather than die running away, she faced her foe against impossible odds.

The only issue with Eir’s death as I see it is that it was too kitten predictable and felt like – as Shiren said – being done for the sake of Braham’s character development. Which, overall, has been happening too fast and too much off-screen (particularly when it comes to Eir). He HATED Eir until Season 2, and all it took to get over all that hate which built up for 17-or-so years was… fighting alongside her once, and talking once. Yeah, that doesn’t happen in reality.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I think anet actually enjoys trolling necros. What good have they done to this class other than set us up to loose even more power. It’s like 1 step forward, two steps back for the necros. Everyone goes forward or advances and we go backwards will getting crapped on. Guess In this game you need a class that unskilled players playing anet’a favorite classes can kill – necros. Thanks anet you get a gold star for trolling a percentage of your population.

My first main was a sylvari necro. Sadly over months I realised how much the class was missing in terms of active defense amongst other things. But I really like the concept so I play it every now and then :P I will give some tips on specific utilities that power builds utilise and how to counter some classes.

Consume conditions: Despite being the only viable heal, it has a massive telegraph. As we lack stability try to use this while out of line of sight as any decent player will attempt to interrupt you. You can also combo this with other CC like flesh golem knockdown, any fear or even well of darkness.

Flesh Wurm: Low cooldown 1200 range teleport with a stunbreak! Decent damage and survivabilty but its best to place it somewhere out of combat as you can be really kittened if it dies. I prefer this over spectral stunbreakers sometimes as it gives me time to recover. With spectral armor for example, chances are ill get stunned again rhe next second.

Plague signet: Not that popular amongst power builds but can be often used in pvp and some niche pve situations for the passive (like burning boss). Better to use this if traited for signets. Active will work as long as you have a target that is within the range. You dont have to be facing him but blind wont transfer so you will miss!

Spectral armor: As others have said its one of the core skills of most builds. Try not to waste it when your LF is full.

Spectral walk: One of the few trolling tools available to a necro. Use it in wvw or pvp and then jump off of a caste, bridge, hill if you cant carry on fighting for whatever reason. Then port back and they cant get to you. Also used to close gaps with rangers that chase you. As far as i know, you can cast it twice immediately before hitting the ground to avoid falling damage, especially useful in exploration and wvw. Even saved my behind a couple times in skyhammer as i ported back to surface before sleeping with the wurms. Did i mention it gives beast swiftness? I love this skill.

Spectral Grasp: nice force and interrupt. Can be comboed with dagger 3 or troll people in skyhammer. Gets out of ranged and obstructed quite easily so beware.

Spectral Wall: rarely used with power builds but its preference, can be useful in pvp whwn holding a point and combo fielding with a mate.

Wells: very useful in putting pressure on points. Darkness is especially usefull against any melee and can be used to safe stomp.

Almost exactly what I want it to be. The one thing where I would like a change is the interaction with the Necro’s self-healing traits and the Regeneration boon. Those should work through Death Shroud.

From my time spent playing with Unholy sanctuary, I can say with confidence Necros would become broken if we got all healing in Death Shroud.

I agree. I play an Unholy Sanctuary build on Necro more often than not these days when I do play. The main reason being that it feels right when alternating to and from Death Shroud when combined with healing regen and high/quick LF gain.

Death Shroud starts to do what it was intended to do: Absorb and outlast enemy pressure/spikes while in DS and be in a position to counter when exiting. For the longest time the latter was and still is missing. Pre-Unholy Sanctuary and in builds without it, your health gets so low that after popping DS once or twice you have no time recover when exiting. It doesn’t matter if you manage to stay in it for 5 seconds or 20 seconds the result is mostly going to be the same: Players will just wait and evade you while you’re in DS and spike/stun you when exiting.

Unholy Sactuary builds punish players who do that when they find the Necro has regained 20%-100% of their health while in DS, forcing them to try and burn through your health and your DS rather than waiting for LF degeneration to do it for them.

So how do we bring the mechanical love of Unholy Sanctuary builds to non-Unholy Sanctuary builds?

Siphons at the very least should work through Death Shroud. Regeneration should also work in Death Shroud, but due to Unholy Sanctuary’s existence it should definitely be at 50% effectiveness. Maybe the same healing penalty should apply to siphons too. As Unholy Sanctuary shows, healing in DS is pretty powerful because whatever you heal in DS is always a 100% net gain of health, rather than being mitigated by DPS. So that 150-300 health per second goes a long way when you have a magical secondary health bar that absorbs 20Kish damage and with the right traits, can be refilled within seconds whenever you get the chance to.

Another option entirely would be to change the mechanics of Lifeforce degeneration so that it’s either not timed based (maybe replaced with small degeneration on DS skill usage instead) or the degeneration is made slower over time. Vital Persistence always seems too… vital for my DS builds.

Edit:

What he said.

If I have siphons or the regeneration boon (such as from my well heal or my blood trait). They should work.

If my teammate sees me low on health and tries to heal me, his heal should work. If I bought expensive dolyak runes, the heal should work.

If I consumed regeneration or siphon food, then those heals should work.

If this is too much healing, then nerf life force generation until it is not too much healing.

I don’t think you would want that. Remember LF gain is truly what would keep you alive in those instances without blocks/stun breaks or invul. Nerfing LF regen for outside heals would just nerf the overall effectiveness of DS trading say 10-15K absorption for a 3-5K ally heal. The better way to balance healing through DS is to penalize the amount healed while inside it, but still having it effect us so things like ally group heals aren’t a huge waste due to impossible timing.

Based off the reason I posted above and even though the numbers would look/be lower, your actual net health gain would be as much if not more than other party members if you were healed in DS at 50% effectiveness by a group heal for example and were all still taking damage.

+33% PvE Confusion? Next, Buff ALL Condies!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

There’s a quick and dirty fix to the condi issues in PvE which doesn’t require fixing what should but cannot be easily fixed (condition stack caps), and it’s been suggested by me and other people before:

To all non-player characters in the game, all damaging conditions do +33% more damage. Or rather, all players have a permanent “condition resistance” of -N% (like 33%).

Here, I fixed it! Suddenly, running condi builds in PvE makes some sense!

The Confusion buff set a precedent and showed that it can be done and is worth doing. (Unfortunately, this negligible buff will still change nothing – apart from the fact that officially the issue has been addressed and something has been done.)

We can even go further and convert conditions applied to Structures to a universal Magical Degradation debuff which turns all applied conditions into a single damage over time effect. It can still be less efficient than direct damage, but wouldn’t exclude condi builds completely from content involving structures (especially since there are no “condi only” counterparts in the game whatsoever).

20 level 80s and counting.

Non-berserker builds should be more rewarding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mapisto.2154

Mapisto.2154

Hi everyone.
I feel like non-berserker builds should be more rewarding, in PVE especially.

The most common stats for armor and weapons is berserker’s, and I can see why,
you kill foes really fast, and basically it is the laziest way do deal a huge amount of damage.

Personally I think its ruining all the fun you can have with your class.
Most of the time you use the same skills over and over again, or just put a bunch of signets and spam the most damaging weapon skill you have.
So I decided to try more builds other then berserker, and the truth is: it is not as good as the berserker build.
They are more fun to play – but not as good.
Iv’e tried it on three different classes:
Thief (which has REALLY FUN skills that NO ONE USES because they are not proper berserker skills.),
Mesmer and Warrior.

It all comes to this: conditions are not that good in PVE and the fastest way to kill a monster is with a good critical damage.
And if you put the right traits, zerk doesn’t die that quickly.
If you are not a zerk, you aren’t welcome in dungeon groups because your’e not good/fast enough.
When was the last time you saw a player wearing a rampager armor? sinister? shaman?

Im not saying “nerf zerks”.
I think condition damage should play a greater role in PVE.
Healing power and vitality are not that important to survive.
Non-zerk builds not rewarding enough.

Hope you guys agree with me.

[Suggestion] Slots for more custom armor sets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tenpenny.6750

Tenpenny.6750

As much as I like collecting skins I recently found myself unmovtivated to continue to do so. Most of my characters have the armor sets I wanted them to have making grinding for new pieces rather pointless.

I have some ideas for new outfits but I don’t want to abandon the old ones. Transmuting them back and forth seems too much of a waste of charges (and money) to me.

Why not adding additional tabs/slots for more transmuted armor sets?

With the ability to add more transmuted armor sets things would get interesting again. My ranger could get some sort of ceremonial armor (not the one from the store) next to her adventuring armor.

You could create different armor sets to better suit the region you’re traveling through.

Guilds could use this to have uniforms when meeting in their future guild halls.

I attached a little “prototype” of how I could look in the game. It’s bascially an extension of the wardrobe tab. People could add more slots by buying them. Slots should be nameable so that players could easily organize their outfits.

Like all the other additional slots in the game this could be a nice feature to monetize. Not only could ANet sell the slots, people would propably buy more transmutation charges.

What do you think?

Über annoying new character system

Straylight.7529

Next to that, what is up with not being able to get the skill point thing on the minimap and the absence of the minimap markers? Every skill point I ran into in Queensdale was blocked for reasons unknown but that I was “too low level for them.”

Skill challenges are unlocked at level 13. I understand it can be annoying if you’re the type of player who rushes ahead but leveling is really super-fast since the NPE (new player experience) has been introduced and I think the average player doesn’t have to do any backtracking to previous zones. You’ll reach level 13 in no time, trust me.

Third, it’s SUPER annoying annoying to be a seasoned player and get all those tutorials popups on screen ALL the time.

But there aren’t that many right? There’s two right at the beginning that point out movement and camera control and another one if you die the first time that points you to to the next waypoint. Oh and the one at the dodging tutorial where you have to doge to get to the chest. I honestly can’t remember any other popups. The vast majority of notifications are summed up in the level-up screen and they only pop up when you decide to click in the little level-up button at the bottom of the screen.

It was MUCH more fun before they changed this stuff for new comers as if the rest of the playerbase doesn’t exist and isn’t going to make a new character.Hope Heart of Thorns does a better job.

Well, I do understand it can feel totally unnecessary for veteran players like yourself but as the name suggests the new player experience was made for new players. I found it quite distracting too in the beginning but I now I’m not bothered by it anymore.
I seriously doubt they’re going to change that when Heart of Thorns launches though. I’m sure they expect an influx of new players when their first expansion launches.

You don’t have to grind in order to keep up. All the grind in this game is just for cosmetics. Sure there is ascended, but that’s only like 5% better than exotic so you don’t really need it.

You guys are a perfect example of how people perceive “randomness”. You think randomness means everything is distributed equally. It’s doesn’t, so stop thinking like that.

True randomness means there needs to be some extremely “unlucky” streaks, and some extremely “lucky” streaks. If there weren’t, it would not be truly random.

I’ll give you a good exercise that might or might not open your eyes.

Write down a series of 0s and 1s in what you think is a truly random sequence. Make it long enough, say for example 100 numbers.

Then, start up excel and enter this formula:

=ROUND ( RAND ( ) ; 0)

And copy it through 100 cells.

Let me know your observations when you compare your own “random” sequence and the computer generated random sequence.

Finally, I would like to say true randomness in an MMO probably isn’t the best way of handling progression and loot. A good system would be random, but would also include a so-called “streak-killer” algorithm, that would cut (at least) bad streaks eventually, guaranteeing a “hit” after enough “misses”.

Why has there been so many conspiracy theorists active lately?

It’s well known that instead of coding the one loot table for everyone, games developers prefer to spend vast amounts of time making fiendishly complicated systems so that some of their players get better stuff than others. Accounts of this are always supported by large quantities of well-documented evidence, which takes into account all other factors that might be influential, so there’s really very little doubt about it.

On the other hand it’s pretty obvious that if someone gets 11 pre-cursors, and others who play everyday since release and got nothing. That there might be something wrong with the rng system.

I thought I just said that. The truth is, there really is no RNG system. Colin Johanson just sits at a desk and individually chooses who gets each precursor and when. Some people he likes, others he’s not so fond of.

I also heard that Colin is actually Santa Claus, but I haven’t found any evidence of that yet.

Or, you know, they could always design combat to require roles.

Current Status Gaile gets it, and is pushing internally to relax some of the more draconian communication restrictions.

Original post:

Before I get a ton of “Well, I don’t have a problem with this, stop speaking for all of us,”, I’ll make it clear that this is my viewpoint, shared in the hopes that it will put some of my negativity towards this game in perspective.

Simply put, I just have no idea what direction the game is headed.

I love running dungeons. It’s really the only reason I play the game. Get a small group of players together, face a challenge, wipe a few times, learn the fights, and eventually succeed. I love that. You get to know people, you have fun, and develop a little social circle of people to just get on and hang out with. That’s what makes an MMO fun.

My guild is (was, most have left the game…) the same. We had a lot of fun learning the original dungeons in the game, and about 10 months after launch, we had them down pat. Not really much challenge left to them after that point, my “usual” group would clear them out in about 15-30 minutes without even paying attention to what we’re doing.

After we got to that point, we thought “Well, this is an MMO. Surely there will be new dungeons added as time goes on” and we waited. And waited. And waited. Nothing.

Not even a word about the possibility of new dungeons. One by one, my guild lost its core players as they got bored with the same content day after day. They stopped waiting and left for other games with higher content output. I didn’t give up hope and stuck around. Then, two years after launch, they let it slip in a gamescon interview: They aren’t working on new dungeons, and they have no plans to add more to the game.

I felt cheated. I spent more than a year waiting for content that they knew a lot of us wanted, but they knew it would never come. And we only found out because someone slipped up in an interview. To this day, we have no idea what they intend to add. New races? Professions? Opening up a new continent? More PvP maps? WvW improvements? We have no idea.

I don’t need exact details about what content is on the way. I (and many other vocal players on these forums) just want to know what sorts of content ArenaNet is even interested in developing. Basically: Will we ever see the content we want to play?

tl;dr What does Guild Wars 2 hope to accomplish in the next few years? What is ArenaNet’s development focus? Will we see more than new open world PvE zerg maps and “accessible to all” (read: impossible to fail) living story instances? From the overwhelming negativity on the forums/reddit (not to mention glassdoor), it sounds like ArenaNet would benefit greatly from sitting down, figuring out what their goals are, and communicating that with their customers.

BTW, I know we had a raiding CDI and that we can probably expect a few raids, which will make me happy. But that’s only one aspect of a large game that at the moment, feels aimlessly adrift.
