So disapointed

I am being really disapointed for this """"""""Feature"""""""" """"Pack""""

Big Changes to WvW system? a new siege mastery and another trap that’s “controversial”. Plus commander colors (wow yay, they just had to change the icon…) What about all that has been discussed in CDI? I know that thing is not official, but making a """""Feature""""" Pack for changing the tag color feels way too weak for me.

Balancing: Was that post even serious? What did you say that we didn’t knew before? do you really need 24 HOURS to write a post saying what are the current “OPneses” and “UPneses” of each class in 1 paragraph per class?
What about getting into the matter and saying what will EXACTLY change? No “we will improve this class mobility while mantaining it’s damage output” bullkitten.

Seriously. How can you call this a feature pack? For me it looks only like a regular patch, but instead of releasing 2 patches in 2 weeks, just one big patch in 4 weeks. Great.

Seriously, I’m getting really kittened off with this patch. It’d be way better if it weren’t any of this patch at all. This game is awesome, but the way you’re managing this patch kills me.

Why do you need 3 weeks (i repeat 3 WEEKS) to make blog posts that you can write with what? at most 2-3 hours each? SERIOUSLY. You build so much expectation and every post so far (but one, the PvP) was a big big big (x100) disapointment. I don’t think this is the best way to generate Hype.

Changes in the Sept 2014 Feature Pack (WOOT!)

Necromancer

Our focus for necromancers in this balance update has been on improving their survivability through utilities and traits as well as improving the overall effectiveness of their melee and skirmishing weapons. You’ll see that the dagger auto-attack will now hit two targets, while the axe’s animations have been tuned to be more fluid. Along with weapon skill updates, your utility skills have been updated to provide more survivability over time.

Im excited for these changes, and hopefully everyone else is! Can not wait to see what else is in store!! I wanna see what everyone else has to say about this!

Cleave of Dagger auto will help us in PvE, just not likely enough to justify a necro instead of, say , another ele. It still makes us more attractive because it doubles the rate we can take down trash mobs with dagger.

Looks like they “might” have finally gotten it in their heads that we CANNOT get away, so we may as well be able to tank!!

I still hold my enthusiasms until I can actually play the new skills/utilities, but I have a glimmer of hope now.

Edit: I am referring to WvW here, PvE can still use more of a group support role than a 2 target cleave.

Suggestion: notes field to friend list

Add a notes field to the friend list.

I would like to shortly write why I have added a char/player to friends list. Like “ask what weapon; 8/20 16:20” when I would like to ask about a weapon later; date and time is for finding screenshots. Like “in party at Kessex; 8/20 16:20”. Like “ask about guild”.

This is one of my favourite armor pieces, mainly because i find it really feminine. I don’t think it shows too much, though compared to most of the other armors in game, it does, i guess. Maybe i’m just used to much more revealing armors from other games…. anyway, i really like your suggestion, too, it looks cool enough that i can’t decide which i would like more

Ah, but as a duelist you would want to use every advantage against your opponent. Distraction is a subtle weapon.

This said, I agree (partially). That particular armour piece is … impractical.

Are we board with this game or just MMOs

When I played Guild Wars 1, there were times I stopped playing for months. I don’t think I’ve missed more than a handful of days in this game. Possibly its because of the time gated carrots they dangle in front of me. I expect that this shows that ANet read information on how to motivate people to log on frequently. But the main difference to me is, there is always something to do. The daily, work towards my goal of 100% ascended weapons for 8 chars, dungeons, WvW, the new living story, the new achieves. Unlike other MMOs, this one is not static for months/years at a time.

Maybe I’m not “climbing a mountain” on a daily basis here, but constant mountain climbing can get old. Sometimes you just want something you can be comfortable with and enjoy for easy entertainment, chatting with people.

(As to the forums, after being hit with the ‘log in now’ screen once too many times after I typed out a long post, I always copy the post beforehand. Save so much aggravation).

Need for a Trial System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dark.1208

New to the forums. Hope this is in the right place
TL;DR version at bottom

I’ve been trying to get a girl that I’ve been dating to give Guild Wars 2 a try but she spent so much on online games in the past that she just refuses to buy it (or even let me buy it for her) unless she knows she’s going to like it. Unfortunately, it’s a long distance relationship and I only see her once every few months. Last night I tried screen sharing through Skype and it was just a disaster and did a horrible job at conveying why Guild Wars 2.

The only way I think that I can get her to like this game is if she tries it first hand. So I ran a search on these forums using Google and found that it’s been almost a year since the last trial and the general downside was that it would increase gold spamming. Therefore I think a way to counter this is maybe implementing a referral type trial system. So here is how I think the system should work.

First as the name kind of implies, only those that have already purchased the game can send someone a trial which lowers the amount of gold spammers making accounts. The trial should probably last about 3 days.

Then make sure that they agree that if the person they referred is ever banned for gold spamming during the trial period, the referee’s account is also banned as well loses referring privileges for half a year (or more depending on number of repeated occurrences). That means the referee is responsible for their friends.

Finally, the referee’s account has to be at least 3 months old to refer someone and they can only send 1 referral 3 months after their last.

With this system, I think we can get more players to join while at the same time lowering the amount of gold spamming that comes when ArenaNet does trial periods. In my opinion, Guild Wars 2 really needs a lot more trial periods. Even I wasn’t sure the game was right for me when I joined. That’s why I think such a system really would be helpful.

TL;DR
Trial System with following restrictions:

  • GW2 players can send a referral to a friend
  • Trial will last 3 days
  • If person referred is banned for gold spamming during trial, so is referee loses referring privileges
  • Has to have been a member for 3 months to send out trial invites
  • One referral per 3 months after the last

It took me at least 5 extra seconds to kill him, what were they thinking?? Please Nerf DS or at least make it so Necros have degeneration on their regular health bar instead of the DS, or maybe balance it so that using skills DEPLETES death shroud bar instead of filling. Hitman you are playing by far the most op class in game and actually saying a necromancer needs a nerf. Please try playing a class to 80 before complaining about it. A necromancer requires some skill not button mashing like warriors. You lost a fight because they strategically played better then you. Get over it.

Next move, remove rangers pet it knocked me down. Enough said.

Why on earth are you doing a kitten interview than?

It’s unreal how bad anet is when it comes to dealing with media, from the gamescom disaster to this interview lol. How embarassing it is right now…they just keep shooting themselves in the foot.

The “it doesn’t fit in living story” in regards to SAB being added back is such a joke haha.

Who the heck cares about the impact on living story? Ppl play MMOs to have fun, usually with a group of friends, and SAB was an absolute blast for many ppl.

The amount of logic anet has with its decision making is just incredible

Now, I absolutely love GW2, and have come to respect Anet & their way of moving the game forward. At over 5k hours clocked in, I feel that GW2 is the best MMO on the market right now. That said, I speak as someone that is a co-GM of a guild totaling over 140+ members & routinely discusses these issues with my friends. Simply put, the Guildmag interview left me with the impression that Anet has failed in their understanding of what the community wants, & more importantly why. Here are the top issues that stuck out to me.

FoV & First Person View:

Now as I understand it, the reasoning for these two not being implemented has to do with a misinterpretation of the game’s art. Most of the people I’ve spoken to want both of these features because they appreciate the art & want to see more of it in a way that is comfortable for them. I have not heard a single person to date ask for a first person camera for combat, which was their reasoning for not adding it. Quite the opposite, every person I’ve spoken to wants it for screenshots.

The issue of FoV should be plain as day, but it’s not. Need we forget that the devs widened the initial FoV because it made people sick? The other reasoning behind not adding a FoV slider previously, is because it would give people an unfair advantage. But at the same time, 3 monitor setups that give an almost 180 degree FoV are perfectly fine. Siege meanwhile in WvW is not really affected because it requires a line of sight from the player standpoint.

Super Adventure Box:

I’ll just come right out & say it, selling an infinite continue coin for $10, then never having the concrete intention to let people to replay SAB is just plain wrong. One of the big topics that was brought up is the idea that Anet wants players to have less choices, & how that factors into bringing SAB back along with the above. Sorry, but I strongly disagree. If anything, the players want more. Even if it is a “game within a game”.

As for the issue of it “not fitting with the living story”, that is the biggest load of crock I’ve yet to hear from Anet, & I expect better. PvP doesn’t fit either, but it’s getting some overhauls. And it’s not like those covert charr backpacks sure fit well with the struggle against Mordremoth. Or perhaps they do, I’m undecided… So what would it hurt to leave it in the game as another option? As the first living world season proved, people want more to do at their own leisure, not less.

Commander Tags:

Do I really need to even speak about this? I think the community has it covered.

Precursor Crafting:

This is an issue that was brought up several months after the game’s release. We’re now nearing the 2-year mark. First it was delayed because it wasn’t done in time for the first feature pack, & now we’re back to “soon” with no timetable. Just like spring of last year. I can’t count the number of people I know that have either gone on hiatus or outright quit because the endgame of legendary weapons is nothing but a grind for gold to buy one weapon off the TP, or a gamble to flush all of your gold into the forge, possibly getting nothing to show for your efforts.

Mawdrey has shown that we can have items with a combination of time-gating, a bit of grind, and a cool story behind it to make the thing feel special. Entire expansions get released in the same time that precursors have gone nowhere.

Let me just close by saying that once again, I love this game. I enjoy the community and I respect a lot of the choices the devs have made thus far. But if wasn’t a co-GM & didn’t have so many friends here, I would have quit after reading that interview. Simply put, I don’t have faith in Anet’s ability to lead the game forward anymore.

I know a lot of people are upset with the way things are right now. I am too. I don’t play this game nearly as much as I used to. As a matter of fact, I last logged in to the game the first day of Dragon’s Reach part 1 and played the episode. I’m planning on logging in this weekend just to unlock part 2. What bothers me most is the lack of expansions and the lack of communication.

For those that don’t know, posts that include extreme negativity and attacks against devs are deleted. I’m really not sure if the devs can read those posts or not but I do know that awhile back someone created a thread in support and then later deleted his/her post. The support liaison noticed that the post was deleted but could not read the post. So just an FYI, for everyone, if you want the devs to notice your post, please be as constructive as possible.

Also, last but not least, I see a lot of people are upset about the lack of SAB. I never bought the infinite continue coin but if I did, I would be pretty upset as well. I tried SAB, really wasn’t that good at it, got frustrated and gave up. I know giving up probably wasn’t the best thing to do but maybe a lot of other people did the same thing. Raging on the forums is not going to help if the posts/threads get deleted because as mentioned above, devs may not be able to see deleted posts.

Personally I don’t see why people want an expansion at all. I mean what do you think we’d get out of it?

I also disagree with the “game is going nowhere” bit. The living story is evolving and it’s definitely leading somewhere. There could be more love for PvP and WvW but an expansion would necessarily help those either.

Your favorite profession to play as?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: oxtred.7658

Depends on the game mode, i’m always switching between all my characters ( 8 80, 2 currently leveling). Here’s some general usefulness of classes, mainly in dungeons:
mesmer: driving the nerf train, not really wanted except in www roaming and some record runs for portal tricks, but fun class to play, access to powerful burst and stealth in pvp, 100% reflection uptime and great party utilities in pve.
Necro: the least wanted class in dungeons due to their selfish nature, but good in pvp and not so bad in roaming, lack mobility and suffer from being focused.
Elementalist: currently strong in all game modes, rules pve by a large margin, best dps in the game, legendary team support, conjures. In pvp, celestial gives overall tanky build with still a good damage output.
Ranger: average in pve, suffer from the fgs meta, but a well played ranger is a good addition to a team. Some interesting 1v1 builds, lacking in zergs, average to meh in pvp.
Engineer: overall good profession, king of vuln stacking in pve, has access to stealth, proj. reflect, and might in a limited way. Great roaming class.
Thief: good damage output and burst, best roaming profession because of mobility, stealth, and burst, useful in pvp.
warrior: still good in pvp and roaming, easy to play, good solo profession, not really useful in groups except for banner buffs.
Guard: good in all game mode, used in pve for their defensive support and their totally respectable dps, boonspam in pvp and www.

That was for the strenght of each, regarding the fun you’ll get to play them, I find deceptive classes the funniest for roaming ( thieves/mesmers), I usually play engi, war or guard in pvp, and ele in pve. Depending on what you’re seeking, some classes may suits you more than others.

Also, welcome to the game, and have fun!

“Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” – Stephen Hawking

“Enjoying success requires the ability to adapt. Only by being open to change will you have a true opportunity to get the most from your talent.” – Nolan Ryan

Major change is triggered when people face a significant discrepancy between what they expected and what actually happens during change. People adjust to change, not by learning to like what is taking place, but by forming new expectations that can lead to success under the new conditions.

So let us not dig our own graves, even so before the actual changes are made.
On the other hand, discussions of what we can do to counter these changes I support (if they even hit live).

I know we get nerfed all the time, but some changes were, and will be, needed – even if we don’t like the changes. We adapt. Human nature. That’s why we live and not the neanderthals.

Stop making the backpack! You'll doom Tyria!

in Living World

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

Everyone! Stop crafting the new backpack of Mawdrey and Mawdrey II! It’s a trap, a trap to doom Tyria!

Don’t you think it’s odd? ArenaNet, before Season 2, began said that they want player choice to be bigger in Season 2 than Season 1 (where we had the election). But where is that choice? It certainly isn’t obvious. But what can ArenaNet monitor so well that not everyone doing the main story will do? It’s obvious, right? It’s the backpacks! Crafting, or not crafting, the backpacks will affect the future of the Living Story. How, you might ask? Why would this bring about the doom of Tyria? Because they’ll overgrow us and take over in the name of Mordremoth!

In 4 months time, when ArenaNet has had a chance to analize the results and build upon them, the backpacks will grow and the lies of their description being kind and cuddly will be revealed. They will stretch those tendrils around our characters necks and strangle them like they have done to so many NPCs around the world, and our characters will not be revive-able – for they are no longer knocked out like the defeated state, they are dead, and resurrection magic doesn’t exist anymore. Then with the heroes of Tyria gone, Mordremoth’s forces will spread ever eastward, a new day a new zone! And if most instances of the map doesn’t push back Mordremoth’s forces, they’ll take over. But because of all the backpacks, there won’t be enough level 80s to eliminate the threat in Dry Top, our characters that we’ll have to remake will be too low level to do anything in Brisban, and when they reach Rata Sum – no more asuran characters! When they reach the Grove – no more sylvari characters! Divinity’s Reach? The same! Hoelbrak and Black Citadel! You guessed it! And then, when Mordremoth’s forces inevitable encroach on the last bastions of Tyria, Ebonhawke and Deathblade’s Watch, and they fall, the PvE servers, and the game will be nothing but WvW and sPvP. The world of Tyria will be Mordremoth’s vineyard.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Give us a prestigeous PVE armor too

After reading the news about the new exclusive PVP armors, I cannot stop myself from wishing for a similar PVE counterpart. As it is now, the only prestige armor set in game, will be available for the 10-20 people that happen to win elite tournaments….

While I agree that top PVP players should get a special reward for their effords, I strongly believe that there should be a correspondant set for the people that prefer PVE.

I wish Anet would introduce an equally prestegius armor set, that could be craftable through PVE rewards and activities. I wouldn’t even mind paying 100 pristine relics per piece.

Before people start complaining that everything in PVE is easy so nothing will ever be prestigious: we have been lacking any kind of hard to obtain armor set, so now is the time to give us one of those. I am sure plenty of people will enjoy working towards one of those.

No doubt everyone is aware of the recent passing of Robin Williams.

What I am asking for is in some of the upcoming achievements that Anet add some Robin Williams pop culture references or even have some Npc’s go though a skit that Robin Williams made in one of the many films he did during his wonderful career.
