When I see a Charr whose second name is a combination of two words (Fiercepaw, for example) I think it’s dumb and assume the player is an idiot. I’m often wrong about that.

I troll people at world bosses by placing portals right under the chests. In fact that’s why I do world bosses. I go to great lenghts, with mesmer friends and experimental portal guns combined, to teleport people far away and usually down a cliff to die. I always count how many players I got.

I suck at this game. I have a lot of fun, but holy kitten I’m really bad.

I’m terrible even with my main character. I play the cheesiest PU mesmer build in PVP because I can only win with such easy modes. Not ashamed.

I tend to imediately assume all thieves are idiots, but it’s probably because they kitten me in pvp most times. Wait, I tend to think everyone’s an idiot because most classes have a good chance of downing me.

I mess with role players when I find them. They completely ignore me, nicely played. Respect.

I like norn female characters because of how curvy and busty they are. Would totally bang Eir. kitten readheads.

We see the gloom and doom threads way too often, imo – and they are usually posted with a secondary objective (eg, Anet better give me exactly what I want or I’ll predict the failure of the game over and over).

Reality check:

1. The game isnt going anywhere. MMOs can survive (and even flourish) with miniscule numbers. So, the idea that the game will die (defined as losing developer support or disappearing altogether) anytime soon is a ridiculous premise.

2. All you have to do is log in a few times a day to see that there are enough players (and then some) to enjoy every piece of content currently in the game.

3. The only metric that counts to most players is one that only they can measure – how much they enjoy the game day to day.

So, it comes down to the individual. Sure, the game may have died for some, but for some of us, it is as strong as its ever been.

As a secondary note, there is one metric I can measurely personally – how active my guild is. I can say assuredly that my guild is more active today than it was at this time last year, by a large margin. While that isnt the end all be all of metrics, it says alot for me.

"Blink" should never be "Out of Range"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ToxicToothpick.4396

ToxicToothpick.4396

(This applies to all skills like Blink, I couldn’t fit more in the title, and Blink was the most recognizable name and often refers to the mechanic as a whole)

For a skill that instantly move a player to another location, there is a simple Quality of Life change that would make the abilities far easier and more fun to use, while avoiding unnecessary frustration.

There are two fairly simple solutions.

The first, which is less appealing, is to have the ability teleport the user as close as possible to where they click, within range. So clicking 1000m in front of you, would instead teleport you 900m in front of you.

The second, and far better idea, is to have the targeting circle simply unable to move out of the range. If the cursor is out of the abilities range, instead of turning red, it stops moving further away and instead simply stays and close as possible within the range circle. Secondarily, there could also be a thin white circle showing the range while aiming.

These would make such abilities faster, easier to use, and avoid the frustration of having an “OUT OF RANGE” prompt be the reason you wiped on a boss and need to run back for half an hour.

one good change would be that when you purchase an armor set rather than giving you all of the pieces on one character it unlocks the pieces in the wardrobe and gives you the corresponding number of transmuation charges, so 5 transmutation charges for 5 piece sets, or 3 charges for things like Lawless Boots which unlocks just boots for the 3 weight classes.

probably impossible, but maybe have hammer for necro, but not truly wielded by the necro. like have a minion get summoned or something that swings the hammer for you when you use a hammer. make it a ranged weapon, give the hammer X range, hammer-toting minion will go that far to attack, and still fits with the whole “use animations to predict what’s coming”. i mean come on, if you can’t notice the hammer-toting minion coming at you, you need your eyes checked. for skills i got nothing. also, if they target the minion it will automatically target you, since in this case the minion would technically be you.

Hitman… stop embarrassing yourself… For the record, I main a warrior, so let’s dig in:

DS and Adrenaline are two bars, that is correct, both also fill when in combat, also correct… However, the functionality and benefits from it differ greatly…

Warrior’s Adrenaline is not your main source of survivability, whereas Deathshroud for a Necromancer is… You, as a warrior, merely get damage bonusses and maybe some extra healing per second out of it, while you use your utilities, weapons, health and armour to survive…
Warriors have acces to condition immunity, damage immunity, and CC immunity when taking stances, and depending on the build, can sacrifice one of these to get other boons in combat (such as AoE regen, passive strength/defense buffs, or condi removal on shouts w/e)… They have the tools to survive via traits, utilites and weapons…

A Necromancer has to manage his resource way differently however, since they lack everything to survive… They are in essence a huge sponge that has to absorb all the damage hit, since the mitigation comes, and here is the clue, from having lifeforce and being able to go into DS…

Unlike Adrenaline, most Necromancer weapons do not build up Lifeforce quickly, this is a design choice that is more than fitting, since having 100% uptime of Lifeforce all the time would be both stupid and broken… This, combined with the fact that Necromancers’ lifeforce does decay when using it, is the reason it does not decay out of combat, as it is their defensive utility…

If you truly want to make them equal, give Necromancer’s as much acces to Lifeforce as Warriors have to Adrenaline… Trust me, you do not want that, and will likely end up crying so hard that you might wanna refill some water to your body when it happens…

In short, play both, and learn to play…

I agree.

We should also buff signet of the vampire to give the same healing as healing signet. And give necros tons of stability and invulns, and heavy armor, and tons of weapon choices. Actually then we could just call them warromancers, and make life force have a different effect for every weapon!

This is fun. Maybe next time we could make engineers and elementalists into the same class on next week’s episode of coffee at the QQ cafe.

I have a sneaking suspicion we need Rurik himself to fix this, and the sword was fully aware of that, opening a portal to the underworld because it is trying to return to its rightful owner. So within the next few weeks we will travel there ourselves to get Rytlock back, only to meet Rurik, who will probably mention the PC’s similarities to the GW1 PC, and help us. Of course this also means we have to probably make a deal with Grenth to get this done, and there’s no telling what he’ll want in exchange.

how we should have engaged the Elder Dragons

in Living World

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

Instead of each dragon being a “we must all work together” scenario wherein the sylvari ask the charr to help kill Mordremoth, the norn solicit the asura to help fight back Jormag, etc. I’d rather have see each Elder Dragon dealt with (more or less) by the those whom it most threatens.

In this way, the developers could spend more of their resources fleshing out that race’s struggles with the Elder Dragons. They’d be able to tell a more coherent story overall, since they wouldn’t have to worry making sure each race gets face time every Chapter. And the developers could also focus on fully developing the appropriate NPCs (racial leaders, iconic and biconic members, etc).

And we – the players – would get to delve deeper into the lore and take in more of the political and social ramifications of fighting the Elder Dragons. We wouldn’t be stumbling through a loosely connected story one disjointed installment at a time. And we’d be able to develop a connection to the people and places we’re supposed to be saving from destruction (assuming the writers do their job well).

Finally, whether tackling the Elder Dragons as individual nations or a unified resistance, my status as second in command of a military force formed solely to fight the Elder Dragons should be more than just a piece of background fluff. The Pact should be no less a tangible weapon to myself than my sword, bow, or staff.

While the format, of ‘unlocking’ and repeatability for achievements, has done a lot for the amount of urgency and stress related with the LS. I still feel that the LS could and should be so much more than it is now…

Now I know it’s a learning process, and that the method of delivery has changed a lot in regards to season 1 & 2. I still feel that the amount of time spend to polish these stories is just to short. In this regard I am not talking about vine events attracting a fair amount of aphids (who could have guessed). No, I am talking about the little things that feel like they are shoved under the carpet, the part where the story makes a ‘living world’ … as apposed to a ‘perpetuating story’.

And even in regards to the story it can be mentioned that some parts feel rushed. Not even so much in the implementation, but also in the preparation. And how palatable a story is, is (for me at least) directly related to how believable it is. And believable has only little to do with realism! For this I will have to elaborate a little bit:

- See the DryTop place and story felt really good, a lot of planning has obviously went into this. Only criticism I basically read was, where is the urgency with big monsters (by somebody obviously hooked on urgency stress). And, the whole place feels rather ‘linear gated’ due to the layout’, which is just a feature that comes with a canyon system, actually it’s what makes a canyon system differ from an open desert…

- Then cue Part 3, and then mostly convincing these leaders. (using just the Norn) It felt hardly believable that a Norn Leader would come to the summit after destroying one base. Why only one base? There are various places where we could hit the Sons of Svanir, why not use them? A simple list of events to complete would have made it much more believable that we actually dealt a blow to the Svanir. In all honesty I personally ‘ran’ all the way from Hoelbrak to that camp and I culled every Svanir in sight (shouting death to the Svanir in my head – as shouting it for real could wake up people and raise some eyebrows)

OR, for the whole Crown thing, why not send us to Orr to find some piece of text, which Rytlock knows is there but hasn’t been able to get his hands on due to the large amount of Risen still in the area. Which could have been a nice moment to ‘cue’ again that even though Zhaitan has been defeated his corruption still lingers. Well I guess you get the picture..

These things all have to do with the preparation time available, and obviously the implementation time. How can you give your players the most bang for their time by using as much existing (repurposed) content as possible, with the intent to make the story as well as the world as believable as possible…

More time would obviously also give more implementation of the little things I started with. The impact on the world, the part where the story makes the world a living one, because that is not just about the scars it leaves, it’s about the little things. Changing dialog here and there, a Mordi Vine attack in some place we are not ‘led to’ by the story, or even some event with them… How does the story we go through have an effect on the ‘day to day’ world!

Anyways, 2 weeks somehow feels to short, and if part 3 is any tell on what the amount of time available can do to the LS, then I would argue that 3 weeks or even ‘when its done’ sounds like a better way to get the quality up.

We are peace, we are war. We are how we treat each other and nothing more…

Oft times, when a new MMO comes out we see it go through a familiar growth period. A lot of people may flock to said MMO and really play the hell out of it. I’ve been playing GW2 off and on since release. I adore this game. Its not that I just like it or have fun playing it. I literally adore GW2. I left GW2 about 2 months ago to try out Wildstar. Well, here I am.

I don’t quit other MMOs to go back to WoW like most MMO players. We’ve all heard it before. “I’m done with this game. I’m just going back to WoW.” When I quit them I can’t wait to get back to GW2. I think those of us that still play GW2 nightly know that we’re in the middle of something truly special. I think GW2 will go down as one of the greats, unaffected by the movements and goings on of the other “greats”. Guild Wars 2 is special and I wanted to recognize it today as one of the best MMOs I’ve ever played. I’ve been playing since release for the most part and I think just today it dawned on me. Guild Wars 2 is king.

It is for flavor. This is an online roleplaying game. Tyria is a fantasy world with its own flavor, physics and stories.

Would you like it if instead of any actual dialogue, story NPCs would just say: "Your next goal is to kill X. Your next goal is to move to location Y. Click the “REWARD” button to receive your reward."?

How would you like it if swords were no longer called swords, but just “weapon 1”, and shortbows were “weapon 23”, hammers were “weapon 45”?
How would you like it if humans were just called “race 0”, norn were called “race 1”, charr were called, “race 2”, etc.
How would you like it if you discover cooking recipes (wait, I mean “craft 8 recipes”) by combining 1x Ingredient 62, 1x Ingredient 37 and 2x Ingredient 07?
How would you like it if items had no inventory icons at all?

I would have no fun if the game world’s veneer got removed and all I had left was a dull, faceless database to move around in.

[SUGGESTION] Improve Party Kick System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jeskelech.4152

Jeskelech.4152

Alright this is one of those situations which really has to be addressed.

Sure it is nice to be able to kick people from a party, but please change the functionality a bit so that a reason has to be specified and leave the party chat open so that the people kicked can actually address the issue if there is a case of abuse.

I see people getting kicked from parties all the time by others who think they “play wrong” because this or that ability was not used in a specific fight.

Now luckily I am not on the receiving end of this in general, and I will often vote against a kick because someone is trying to play the game the way they want to play it and really doing their best to contribute to the group.

What really gets to me is this silly attitude that you have to play your class in a very specific manner and use a specific skill set for every encounter, and if you somehow fail to do this, you are a bad player and deserves to be kicked.

This rant is a result of being on the receiving end recently, what happened is this:

Person a and b advertises for prople for fractal lv 38 (I am lv 41, and play guardian) I join this group along with a very close friend of mine, and we start off fine killing stuff, moving to the second fractal.

Person c also joins.

On an encounter in the second fractal person a and b are busy doing what person a and b wants to do, and not very communicative in general, then after I fall, and my friend falls, only person c has the sense to contribute to group dynamics and get us up again.

Now after the encounter person a and b really quickly kicks my friend and myself from the group, because apparently I am playing Guardian wrong….

Now let me get this straight, I am not a newbie guardian, and I do change skills as needed, how ever some people seem to think that all they have to do is run around hitting stuff, while they expect the guardian to keep them alive, hit stuff and keep himself alive on top.

This I am just going to do damage and if I die it is the guardians fault attitude stinks and either people need to change mentality, which I have no hope for, or the kick option needs to be improved to require at least 50% in favor of kicking, which means in a group of 5 it would take 3 votes to kick someone, not just 2.

I don’t really want to play with people of this attitude at any rate, but it would be a benefit to not allow this behavior, as they would simply get other people to help them complete what you already contributed to, force them to rage quit instead, so they actually also stand to lose something.

I can’t even be sure that they kicked because of mistakes, or if they simply had two other guild mates they would rather take with them, in effect taking advantage of me and my friend until we were not needed any longer.

Comparing minion and phantasm dps

in Necromancer

Posted by: Bhawb.7408

Bhawb.7408

First off, what game mode are we talking about? This is extremely important because the best tPvP minion build is awful for PvE, and vice versa.

Q1: In PvE its okay, although minions (especially melee) will die, Flesh Golem will discover the joys of flower arrangement and peaceful protesting, and you probably wouldn’t use that exact build which would change DPS a bit. For the best “real” DPS in PvE you’d want to sub out Shadow Fiend for Flesh Wurm (will increase damage when you consider uptimes and projectile finishers), also note that Bone Minions have higher DPS when you just summon them then blow them up immediately, plus that gives you blast finishers for groups.

In PvP minions are going to have a fair bit worse DPS because they will be kited and killed more often, and its hard to say because your build can really change their effective DPS depending on how much you heal them.

Q2: depends more on gear, traits, and team comp, so I can’t really answer this until I know what game mode we’re dealing with.

The playstyles can be similar in PvE, but in WvW and PvP they are vastly different. Phantasm is almost always a DPS oriented playstyle with stealth/damage avoidance to stay alive, and you basically just summon phantasms and let them do their thing, there is no real microing of them after summoning. Minions require the use of their actives, making sure they aren’t kited, keeping them alive with various skills/build setups, and are almost always tanky builds. PvE is really only different because you just summon the minions and then do normal DPS rotations while both of you are in full zerker, and the minion actives are just used for higher DPS.

I cannot understand why players complain about precursor prices. They are needed to make a legendary weapon, the weapon of all weapons.

They are suppose to be rare, they are suppose to be extremely difficult to get.

To retain their epic legendary status few players must have one because if Anet had to heed to every QQ’ers demands precursors would be worthless and everyone would be running around with a legendary to the point where legendary will not even be worth a transmutation stone.

To be very honest, buying a precursor from TP for 1200 gold is not all that difficult either.

To buy mine I did only what I liked.

1) I run AC p1,2,3 & CoF P1 &2 daily.
2) I enjoy EOTM and BL wvw.

Doing the above I made a fair amount of money in a short time.

I have also (every time I had 10 globs banked) dumped them into the mystic forge using the 10x clover recipe.

That alone (considering T6 mat prices) made a massive fortune. That is also how I got the bulk of T6 mats for gift of fortune. The rest came from drops and putting in lower the instant buy offers in the TP.

The fact of the matter is 99% of the QQ comes from people who wants a easy legendary whilst they expect it to remain at legendary status. This is impossible.

The other 1% QQ comes from people who lacks the ability to think out of the box on methods of making money in a game where making money is already extremely easy.

So, be bold, think out of the box, choose an activity you like that provide some gold and you will over time get a real legendary and when you get it, it will feel better then a random blue drop.
