I get bothered a bit when I see copyrighted or celebrity names being used. Changing a single character to special character shouldn’t be done. Wish players would try to be a bit more mindful of immersion too. Luckily most are good with naming.
It says unique on the ring.
It’s a really small tag at the bottom of the stats, barely noticeable. And how are people supposed to know what this ‘unique’ tag actually means?
It’s called paying attention, reading something and applying common sense. But no, there should clearly be a fifteen page PDF guide to walk people through this.
It says unique on the ring.
Just want to pick the necromancer community’s brain a bit: what’s your opinion on adding a pseudo-condition (like a guardian’s gs 5), disease, into GW2?
For those who don’t remember, disease was a condition available in GW1 that caused health degeneration equal to poison, with the added bonus that it spread automatically to enemies of the same “type”. If a human was infected, all nearby/adjacent (think 100-250 radius) became infected (friendly fire possible, IIRC). If, say, an undead, beast, or elemental was infected, all nearby/adjacent undead, beasts, or elementals would be infected as well, but nothing else.
There is already an enemy type/species mechanic in the game; potions attest to this. Disease could be a pseudo condi unique to necros, available on a select few skills (say 1-3 across all new weapons or talents). It’s damage would be similar to whatever damage your poison would cause, minus the healing debuff, and spread automatically across all similar targets with normal targeting rules applying (in PVP, for example, if you hit a ranger with disease, and he goes to regroup with an elementalist with Diamond Skin up, the condi wouldn’t transfer while that effect was active. When Diamond Skin loses its effect, and if the ranger still has disease on him, only then would it “infect” the ele).
As for condi duration, whatever the remaining duration is on the “host”/initial target, that’s what it’ll be on the infected (you hit the ranger with 8 sec of disease, he regroups with the ele 3 seconds later. Four seconds later, Diamond Skin finally loses its effect and disease jumps to the ele for the remaining 1 second).
The condition, being a pseudo-condi, would/could not stack in any way.
aka Thalakos Dralnu, Voxt Umultus, and Jalis Haafingar.
Vulgarity is no substitution for wit.
I find most of my characters except necromancer boring to play. I’ve leveled everything except a ranger to 80. I tried dungeons on warrior, guardian, and elementalist, but I don’t find stacking in a corner with the camera completely blocked an appealing form of gameplay. Since I started seeing groups actively saying “No necros” and “Zerker warrior only 3k AP or kick”, I gave up on dungeons entirely instead of adapting to the meta.
I also used axe most of the time with a 6/2/0/0/6 build in dungeons, because being in melee range with a dagger and no constant vigor usually just got me killed or pretty close to it, especially since I tend to jump to revive downed allies faster than I should.
(edited by amiavamp.9785)
to be honest i have found necro more enjoyable in this meta, im running a powermancer zerker and is a blast. i have minor problems in pvp except whit some perma stealth thief or perma dodge.
My advice try to stay out of MM and staff condition necro. I just think wtf is thinking this guy when i see a scepter necro or a “conditionmancer” in spvp in my humble opinion for necro is no good where a brawl can be fast and there is a tons of 1v1.
I enjoy playing my necro, I must be a masochist.
If I wanted to play a class to be L337 I would play warr or guard. I play necro because I like it. It helps that I seem to be pretty ok at it, but I don’t enjoy other classes, except maybe ele.
I think Zombify and his double necro team that won a tournament (one of the weekly ones IIRC) recently would have something to say about this. As much as there are still a few problems with the profession, you can make it work in high tier PvP. There has always been a group of players playing necro at high tier when everyone else says they aren’t viable.
Now, we still have problems, especially if you’re playing anything but condi, but saying that its objectively not enjoyable is a huge stretch.
One might argue that joy itself can only be subjective, but whatevs…
Quite a few traits, including GM traits, are not part of any viable build.
Same for every class.
You might think that a vamp build is viable, for instance. Or an in-and-out DS boon build. Ha! Poppykitten.
No and no.
Everyone knows that vamp builds don’t work.
“in-and-out DS boon build”… lol.
First of all, this will never work. Atm you can get retaliation, fury and stability. No one would give up their entire class mechanic just to have a high uptime of these 3 boons. Besides there are other ways to have a high fury and retal uptime.
Secondly, if you buff boons-on-DS to a point where a build like this is usable, every build that uses them as a nice side effect would be a lot stronger anyway.
… it does exacerbate the problem that necros are kinda crap all-around when compared with (any) other class in whatever its prime cheese build is.
…
And I don’t deny that some people have made it appear to work.
A clear case of skill>build.
Some people appear to make it work, because it does work.
Necro is just not popular atm, among the few people that actually play necro there are even fewer who can actually pull it off to a point where they overshadow other classes as a team asset. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
The chances they haven’t hyped to the theoretical limit of hype a NEW RACE with less than 14 days left until the patch aren’t just low… they’re perhaps the most mathematically perfect representation of the number 0 you will ever see.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

It’s to avoid latency issues. If you put all of the data in the US, the players in EU end up with very high latency. If you put all the data in the EU, you end up with players in the US having a very high latency. And the difference can be fairly large, going from <100ms to >300ms easily.
And if you put it in the exact middle between the two, you end up in the ocean.
One of my friends recently returned to the game. He’s treating it like Skyrim – wandering the open world, gathering, making his own quests and goals, finding loot, and hidden places. It’s all there. That’s one of the best things about this game – its open world. At 80, it really opens up for you. Craft special armor for yourself, find your own adventures. I only wish this game would add more content – the vanilla game was amazing and I still love coming to it. We’ll see with season two.
So I have seen plenty of “Warr/Guard OP” “Only ever need 1 Ele” “Ranger/Engi are trash” types of posts.
It got me thinking about profession balance, and the perceived lack thereof. What if you could take some aspects of the Holy Trinity, but still create variation between the professions?
I split aspects of the game in to 3 sub sections.
Dealing damage – DPS or Condition
Mitigating damage – Tankiness or Control
Healing damage – Heal or Sustain
To explain the differences between Heal and Sustain, Heals are larger, have cooldowns, and can affect your allies, whereas sustain tends to be smaller, more constant heals just for yourself.
I then re-jigged the stats of each profession to fall in to the above.
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/842/ywpbg.jpg
What this now does is give each profession a primary and secondary aspect that they excel at.
Warriors can deal large amount of flat damage, take a good amount of damage, are capable at sustaining and controlling the flow of battle, but little in terms of condition, and are terrible at healing.
Guardians are bottom of the pack DPS-wise, but can tank and heal for England. Conditions give them a bit of extra damage, and their control and sustain are weak.
Engi becomes the medium-armor tank option, but by way of kits/shields/exoskeletons, but is very balanced in all areas, adapting to the situation as needed (kinda like how Druid worked in WoW).
Ranger becomes about heavy control of the battle-field, along with impressive heals.
Thief is like the warrior, but sacrificing tankiness for condition damage.
Ele is the main damage dealer for the light armor crew, can heal well, but takes hits like a wet tissue.
Mes still deals significant damage, but is mainly about control.
Necros condition their way to glory, whilst having the highest sustain out of anyone.
This gives each armor class almost their own mini trinity.
Heavy is great at tanking (makes sense), can dish out damage and heal. Doesn’t offer much in the way of strategy though.
Medium armor gets the most balanced choice, with a tanky option, a damage option, or a support/control/heal option.
Lights are mainly damage focused, but can still offer decent healing and control.
Obviously, for this to work, things would need to be tweaked, like making condition damage more viable in PvE, and working control a bit differently (professions that excel at applying control, should also excel at removing them) making the control aspect desirable for both offensive and defensive purposes.
So rather than your normal trinity set up that pigeon-holes proffs/classes in to roles, this is a middle-ground between it and the current jack of all trades with a single unique mechanic set-up.
STOP over-propagandizing “scarlet’s war”….please honestly. did anybody feel this “devastating war”?…..it went unnoticed to me….completely. please stop spreading this all over the place as if it was a big deal, i mean really, all your fans think season 1 was jsut average content and here you are “ohhhhhh looook let me make 3-5 posts about this”. ok season 1 was was a start to something better (WE HOPE)….but its nothing to brag about or announce repetitively. you did a whatever job, so move on and do better
.
Um, ive been playing this game for a year since today. and it might just be a game, but i almost cried when saw lions arch destroyed and some of my favorite npcs dead or gone. Lol to say that it was devasting means you either dont play much or you are new. not saying you are bad or anything, its just that most people who play mmos invest alot of time in them and get attached to some of these things. All those times goofin’ round’ with guildies in LA and just doin stuff you do in LA, they gonna be missed.
Join us and RISE to the challenge!
DUNGEON
im excited for this room becuase it would add a huge dynamic aspect to houses, it could be pvp and pve at once or just one or the other. but it would be full of traps that you build yourself, some player activated and some automatic, aswell as monsters that you buy and place. dungeons can also have treasure rooms that can be filled with different types of chests, low leveled chests need to be filled with rewards by the house owner but high leveled chests can also give unique and impressive new weapons/armor or house materials
DUNGEON HALLWAYS
just like regular house hallways but not filled with decorative stuff. bones and skulls can be used to make ambient skeletons and blood vials of all sizes can be used with walls to make blood smears of varying sizes but thats it for decoration. TRAPS: floor spikes-made with steel bars and clockwork- these spring out of the ground when you walk over them. WALL SPIKES made with clockwork mechanisms and many more steel bars and activated by switches these spikes deal much more damage and come out of the walls crushing and impaling other players. TRAPDOORS made out of wood and watchwork mechanisms these can be automatic or switch controlled and open a door to a pit of water (or spikes) that the player will have to jump back to the top of to get out, water can be filled with sharks, baracuda, or a new disembodied tentacle monster! FULL DARK TRAP made from runes of the sunless and grenth runes this causes a section of the dungeon to go totally black and cause damage to anyone who walks into it without a torch.
TREASURE ROOM
just like other dungeon rooms and of varying sizes can be filled with some boss monsters both unique and from other areas of the game
PET ROOM
i wasnt sure about this one but it might be a nice spot to keep all of your bets but it begs the question are houses account bound or soulbound? id say account bound because of all the money you would put in them. they could simply be accessed from any home instance. ANYWAY pet rooms would contain a variety of different enviornments (again the size of your pet room depends on your level and if you want to buy the bigger rooms) and you can keep all your unlocked pets (and mini pets maybe?) in this room so you can visit them all at once, you can also build habitats and houses for them like ponds and rock huts and plant trees for birds to roost in, maybe even raise new unique pets from infancy to the age of fighting at your side.
CHAPEL
a room to show off your faith, it has space for lavish carpets down the center and pews on each side (pretty much all sitting furniture follows the same pattern of wood→higher teir wood→even higher tier wood with gold trim→highest teir wood with gold trim and jewels) and pillars around the edge of the room (stone first then fancier stone then marble, then marble with gold trim, then crystal and then colored crystal) stained glass wyndows can also be made although i cant think of how we would get the glass, maybe glass could be a purchasable item and it would require unid dyes in the creation of the windows. the most important piece of this room is the altar, you can pick from any of the human gods, the flame legion’s fire gods, bear wolf and raven norn spirits and the asura’s grand alchemy. altar’s start out as cheap and ugly and finally work their way up to beautiful places of power. praying at a fully upgraded altar lets you sacrifice 4 weapon/ armor skins for a chance at getting one back just like the MF but here you also have a chance of getting a new set of skins based on which god the altar is aligned to! one full set for each god (i know thats a little ambitious) depending on which god the altar is aligned to the room will change. like banners for the god will hang down and the stained glass will show different images.

If they shared the same style they’d be like any other skin set.
Also, less rainbows and unicorns, ty.
It needs galaxies and stars.
Well, the drill sent out a surge that went westward into the Maguuma jungle, and we saw a huge, scaly mouth open deep underground there. Marjory spoke afterwards about investigating the “roar” that was heard, and her Seraph sister mentioned heading into Brisban.
So, altogether, I think chances are good we’ll be fighting the Jotun in their icy mountain lairs in S2.
I think your sense of humor was lost in this thread. ; )
Trahearne will go check it out alone, just like he did in Orr …
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
making the game harder and nerfing gold farming methods accomplishes two things
1. people who are dedicated players who like to farm for stuff will quite, making server load lighter
2. people who aren’t so dedicated but still want gold will end up spending even more money on buying gold because it’s now impossible to make gold by playing the gameit’s very easy to understand these kind of situations once you face the fact that it’s all about the money
inb4 “omg how dare anet try to make money blah blah blah”
yes, anet deserves money for content. however, taking present content and making it harder is not content, and therefore not deserving of money.
it’s sad to say that i’m thinking about leaving too, for wildstar
Do it, you won’t regret it. I approached it with reservations after the severe disappointment suffered with this game over the last year. Wildstar’s what an MMO should be and is worth the $15 a month.
You do understand that you are basically supporting the same company.
And so the game will likely have or get similar money grabbing tactics. In fact the 15 dollar a month might be exactly that. And if your willing to pay the 15 dollar you might just as well start playing WoW as that game proven itself by being successful for 10 years now.
- raises her hand sheepishly, as she rides around on her two person rocket.*
All kidding aside. I am not going to leave gw2 just yet. I am not on playing it, since it’s rewards are all in parts of the game I am not too thrilled about. The manifesto said play how I want, if i go chasing the gold Like a skinner box lab rat…I am not Playing the way I want.
As long as playing the game the way i want is nowhere near as profiteable as farming dungeon runs… I prefer to monitor the Forums for changes… and play… something else.
But the last thing I will do, is give more money to NCSoft.
So whether Wildstar looks good or not, I am giving that a pass.
I think people need to cool it on the “omg if it isn’t satisfying me 100% then I’m not able to play how I want, Anet you lied!” thing. If you want to just do PvP, go for it. You want to mindlessly grind mobs in PvE, go for it, you want to just do crafting and JPs, sure no one’s stopping you, you want to RP, run some dungeons, do some WvW, stand in a circle dancing, whatever, by all means go and do it you can play any way you want! Oh, you want to do any of those things but also make good money doing it? Well, that’s a completely different issue. Not a “play how I want” issue.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Now imagine this content is permanent. At this point, devs will have to step in and do something. The time spent on this cleaning up they could have done creating new interesting ideas for us.
Make raid events instanced and controlled by guild leaders who spawned them – and the problem of non-helpful people disappears by itself, leaving good and useful players happy and devs with plenty of time to create “new interesting ideas”.
some people play 1 hour or 12 hours a day. So that could vary very much.
I can make 50g a day if I farm for 8 hours. I’m sure most people can too.
Nowaday I make maybe 5 gold playing normally.
Cannot be unseen. You have ruined the game for me, I hope you’re happy!
GAH! Can’t unsee >_<
Now that I know, this shall bother me forever XD
The image used for dice on the new black lion menu are wrong. Six sided die are arranged in such a way that the opposing sides add up to seven. So the six and one sides being adjacent is not correct. Or is it a different tradition in Tyria? Please feel free to pull resources from game balancing, alternate SPvP gamemode development, and precursor crafting development as needed to fix this issue as soon as possible. I’m sure I speak for the community when I say that this die controversy is a far greater issue.
I would like some additional LVL 80 zones. Kryta and Ascalon need them badly to round out areas to roam @ LVL 80.
Also, I would like to see some possible instanced zones (possible 5-man content) that connect the existing zones that are higher level and more challenging to traverse (with some possible rewards for using those “shortcuts”). Similar to some of the connecting zones in GW1 GWEN maps.
I suspect that Anet has something similar to GW1 HARD MODE in mind as well. My thoughts are that fine tuning the MegaServer system is the precursor to this in terms of consolidating active Map Zones as adding something similar to GW1 Hard Mode would likely double the needed active Zones. Just some speculation as to how they may be able to add “End Game” content within available resources.

A bicycle may not be broken, but you don’t want to enter a race with it against a car.
Working as intended does not change the fact that we are comparatively weaker when using our kits than other classes due to this fact.I can agree they should change it, but the ridiculous hyperbole is a bit unnecessary.
I wouldn’t call it ridiculous hyperbole, but rather an analogy to illustrate the difference between broken and effective. I find differences of opinions on specific topics are often times simply a matter of perspective. I was trying to clearly explain mine.
