There’s nothing to discuss. You crafted it, good job.

The only discussion I’m having now is why this sort of thread is unproductive, and the only reason I’m contributing to it is to try to help you understand that. If you have no desire to listen to me, then I won’t further waste my time.

I’m sorry, but if Cantha and Elona aren’t in the plans for NCsoft or ArenaNet, then to me that makes this game’s future substantially disappointing and not worth investing into. Cantha and Elona were my “homes” in gw1, so to know that they will never come back makes me feel like I’ve lost my home.

When I went back to WoW after the first month of GW2 the most difficult thing for me in WoW was combat. Everything felt so slow. Coming back to GW2 is again a culture shock combat wise because the player has to be much more aware of what is going on.

I would not go as far as to say GW2 has ruined all other MMO’s in this respect but I would say GW2 has set the new standard in how combat will be addressed in future MMO’s. The stand still and beat on things model is going away in MMO’s. WoW progressed it some from EQ1 and now GW2 has progressed it from WoW.

Yeah dodging in Tera is ruined by the rooted attacks.

Makes PVP both painfully dull and also unintentionally hilarious.

Pretty sure PlanetSide2 is doing fabulously.

The best part of GW2 is the dodge mechanic. I can’t play any other MMO that doesn’t let me dodge or evade attacks coming at me — and I’m not talking about using LoS like in WoW. I wish every game got rid of “hit chance”, and just let you either dodge it or not.

If you like it that much, you should give TERA a try. They just went Free2Play.

It’s actually an action MMO (unlike GW2 which just added Dodge), where you can dodge everything once you’re good enough at it. All attacks are skill-shots and hitboxes are more relevant in combat.

I absolutely hate the animation root in Tera. That has pretty much killed any enthusiasm I had for an otherwise very nice combat system.

One thing I’ve discovered is that going back to a “rooted” combat system is a non-starter for me. The fluidity of combat in this game has ruined any chance of enjoying other MMOs that plant you in the ground every time you use a skill.

It’s kind of like going back to your POS Hyundai after driving your buddy’s Porsche for a weekend. I’m just glad I actually own this baby.

Totally agree.

Other MMOs just play like crap after GW2. The dodging, jumping, movement and abilities in GW2 are just so smooth and athletic, it’s great gameplay.

And for graphics etc, forget about it, everything from WoW to SWTOR is just old and ugly in comparison.

Even my stealth dual dagger backstabber in Skyrim feels clunky and blerh after playing thief in GW2 (but at least the graphics in skyrim hold up in comparison, especially with the 4k texture mods etc)

Let me start by stating, I am by no means bashing GW2, haha, faaaaaaar from it! In fact, GW2 has given me almost everything i look for in MMO’s. Fun leveling, awesome armor sets, skinning your armor, voice acting, beautiful graphics, no more repetitive quests, epic WvWvW, crafting exp, and the nostalgic feeling of exploring.

But what my title states, is that i can no longer play any MMO that follows the gruesome quest log, collecting quests, and so on! I’ve been raised to believe all of that is standard and the only way to enjoy MMO’s. But Guild Wars has changed my outlook on online gaming. I know some of you may not fully agree with what i am going say, but Guild Wars 2 has revolutionized MMO gaming, for me at least.

Like today, i was bored, and decided to revisit Aion seeing as it went f2p. Not even 30 seconds in, i gave up because i could not stand reading through the quest logs, knowing i had to kill 6 wolves, and find like 10 chicken eggs. >.<

anyone else experiencing this as well? Anyone else try Visiting/ revisting other MMO’s and just couldn’t stand it?

I just heard news that Cantha might not ever be making its way back into GW2 as an unnamed artist for Anet has said: "NCsoft was firm in its decision to stay away from “Asian” themes and keep it “universal.” ArenaNet had to make adjustments quickly. A small number of you may recall that the human story was originally split by Canthans/Elonians/Ascalonians instead of the current Streets/Commoner/Noble paths. Divinity’s Reach originally had sections dedicated to the three cultures as well (Ossan Quarters & Rurikton are the current “versions” perhaps?) ArenaNet obeyed NCsoft’s suggestion and halted all Canthan productions, including the once-existing Canthan sector of Divinity’s Reach…. Because of time restrictions, they had to erase the Canthan sector of DR quickly. The current result is “The Great Collapse.” It’s an inside joke now, she says. The “Collapse” symbolizes what was once an idea that didn’t make it all the way. She further states that ArenaNet had to come up with some new lore to cover up the lack of Canthan content — hence the Emperor’s decree (read lore on Wiki). That’s all I have."

Regardless if this true or not, it is ridiculous. The game world is made universal because it has more than one type/race of human. In GW1 I saw it like this:
Kryta= Greece, Ascalon =European, Istan and Kourna= African, Vabbi and Orr= Arabic and lastly Cantha represented Asia, mostly China/Japan/Korea. That universal diversity is what made Guild Wars such a compelling game. By trying to represent most cultures, you created something universal. I think it is a huge mistake that NCsoft think that universal should mean some sort of one ‘common race’, that because of sexual mingling has come about. That being the only way for it to come about… It is unbelievable to think that entire continent can be erased from a game for the sake of PR.

Cantha and Factions had some of the very best concepts about it in terms of map design and cultural lore. From The training Island to the main land the entire game was beautiful, and the giant city, felt like a giant city. I have actually gotten myself lost in it many times. In fact for quite a lot of people I know, Factions is what got them playing GW in the first place… I know that doesn’t count for much but still.

But what I am most annoyed about, is that you guys (anet) have always been ‘we talk to our player-base’ If this about Cantha is true, then surely this is something we need to talk about. As this is no small thing, it is an entire section of lore and some of your best work going down the drain for no real good reason. Even if this is a thing set in stone, I think it is unfair that the player-base’s opinions go left unheard. It could even be possible that if NCsoft realise how much we love that part of the game, they might change their minds. After the whole Mass effect thing, I think anything is possible with enough voices.

Anyway I just thought I should say something and hopefully people agree and that we can rescue Cathan from the ideas bin.

Just make one in the Mystic Forge. It’s not that hard. Just keep throwing lv 80 Rares of the weapon type you want, and a Precursor will pop out eventually.

Not necessarily true at all.

Bravo OP.

Funny how it’s mostly the same people with the same old arguments defending the current broken system wherever they can. Makes you wonder about a few things… Maybe they got lucky in Karka event, exploited in the early days, are mega-rich TP power traders or maybe they are just plain ignorant.

What they don’t get is:
1. Nobody wants the precursors “handed to them” as they claim. We want to earn it. What is the point if you just get something for nothing? That is why we are playing an MMO, for kitten’s sake.
2. Most sensible people who complain about precursors already understand that Anet cannot just go in and remove the need for the mystic toilet – the economy will collapse if people are not flushing thousands of items down it every day. However, this is a situation Anet created and there have been numerous ideas and suggestions around keeping the item sink in place while adding progression towards precursors for the unlucky ones.

Oh, and don’t expect any comment from Anet about this. Like many other areas of the game where players have voiced their concern… it is blatantly being ignored.

@op your right, everything I did so far, I did it without money and TP.

I grind my brains out until I got all the bits and pieces this weekend I finish all my loadestones and so far I got gift of mastery and gift of twilight. Now I work my way to gift of fortune. Worked for 3 months over this crap coz I got work and just few hours a day to play, but I’m ok with this 3 gifts, even if they are a pain to do them, because I know what to do, how many things I got left to do and so on. I got control over it.

what I hate is incertitudine, that precursor crap have “a” chance. Its no defence over this. I hate that “a”.

That scavenger hunt is a greath ideea but is also a twist to this. Anet coud set up a huge scavenger hunt just to shut you up… one thing to do is get 500 items who got “a” chance to drop from some mobs, set the drop for 0.000000001% and we will be on square one again. that item will cost 100g and round and round we go.

If you complain then Anet will reply something along the line: you wanted scavenger hunt… now you got it, so stfu and grind.

I will probably finish my gift of fortune… eventualy, then stop coz what ever was in my power I did it all

My take on it is that precursors should have been as common as dirt from day 1. They should never have been special at all.

All legendary weapons start life as a normal lump of wood, metal and leather. It is what its wielder makes it. The journey to converting that pointy bit of common steel into Dawn (for example – I’m after the bows personally) should have what made the weapon legendary in name and legendary in reality.

Yes we should be collecting all that stuff for the gifts and it should be hard or expensive to do, but the edge should be that you should be taking time to do it. This could easily be achieved if you could only suffuse your weapon with the gift at a specific time of the year at a specific location.

Like the Gift of Light can only be infused into your weapon at summer solstice (or some other appropriate lore time) at the Shrine of Melandru after doing a short personal storyline. The ability to do it should be available for a whole week – to give people adequate and varied playtime to achieve it and then that’s it. Tough luck. You have to wait for another 12 months.

Each time you infuse one of the 4 gifts into your weapon, it changes visually and gets a bit stronger.

That way, the acquisition of legendaries could be spaced out instead of people nearly killing themselves grinding 24/7 to get theirs within a month of the game going live and then pricing 99% of people out of the market.

about the supply, there is a huge supply. The problem is there are exploiters that filled theyre banks with dusk and dawns when it was possible to obtain them for nearly nothing and now can control the market forever. All ANet has to do is Add a quest that requires the 3 final gifts to start to obtain the precursor and it would fix the whole mess

The Precursor situation is not moving forward because it has a lot of defenders, their common argument being to save your money and buy it. It’s legendary, you have to work harder for it. Making it easier to obtain will make the weapons feel less legendary.

Precursors ARE a problem. For those of you telling others to save up money for a precursor: WHAT IF THERE ARE NONE LEFT?

Precursors are a problem not only because of awful RNG, but also because the “safe” way to get a precursor (i.e. spend a ton of money on it) depends on the amount of precursors currently existing in the game. So what if I save up 600g +? There are no more Dawns left. Why are you still telling me to save? I will have all the materials and all the resources. I will be able to make a legendary, so why don’t I have one?

Don’t flip back on your argument and tell me to try the RNG in the forge. You obviously didn’t believe in the MF when you told me to save money, you shouldn’t believe in it now just so you can be “right”.

Don’t tell me that only a small percentage of the population should have the weapon either. I will take your elitism further and say there should only be ONE hero of Tyria and ONE of each weapon. But there isn’t. There are millions of heroes of Tyria, that became heroes and commanders of the Pact because they paid their dues and completed the story. Just like I did. I will pay my dues, collect my mats, and save my money.

The truth about legendaries is that they will always be legendary. Just like your hero if you beat the game. But there are millions of other heroes, who accomplished the same feats you did. How does that make sense? It’s a game. It’s an MMORPG to be specific. There’s a time when you have to use your imagination. In my game, I am the only commander. I’m the one who united Destiny’s Edge. I’m the one who united the Orders. And if I craft Sunrise, that will be the only Sunrise in my character’s world. In GW1, my character was the only one to acquire his powerful weapons.

Drop the elitism and pick up some sense. It is not legendary to buy the sword. Excalibur was never bought. Mjolnir was never bought. Gungnir, the Trident, the Lightning Bolt and Kusanagi were never bought. Powerful weapons from other fiction like the Master Sword, Frostmourne, The Heavenly Sword, Anduril, Ice, and The Soul Reaver were not bought. They all had history. They all required challenges and danger and adventure to get to. Buying or Mystic Forging a precursor is not “Legendary” its “Deus Ex Machina”.

Precursors ARE a problem. What is wrong with Anet implementing a scavenger hunt quest for a precursor? How is the precursor being accessible at the back of a dangerous cavern, guarded by a powerful creature not more legendary than this current system? Is it because you want to look cool? If so, grow up. There are people playing this game who are as good a player as you or better, have as much resources and as much commitment to making these weapons. But the market is dry, and gear accessibility should not have to depend on a market, especially if this gear is so highly demanded. The time and effort and skill in making a legendary are not the problem. The problem is that precursors are not accessible

Hopefully, the sylvari player gets his voice made more Caithe and less 12 year old child “OMG, that’s bad, I’m gonna tell Mommy Pale Tree! You can’t do that, because it’s bad!”

There’s a difference in being righteous and a gallant, and a completely cheesy do-gooder fool. I’d like for my sylvari to sound a bit more intelligent and savvy/jaded than the current voice he has.

Not an anti-hero, but crudely put more capable of being a ba-d-@-zz (this word is filtered -_-)

P.S. My favorite story moments were lv 1-30. Could give it up to 40. Then the game completely loses racial identity and order identity and shovels you into the same old “kill hordes of tricky undead and listen to Trehearne ramble in monotone”.

I guess the Order of Whispers and Durmand Priory were wrong about dragons, because we only took Zhaitan down one way, and it was the Vigil way. No puttting him back to sleep, and no gathering knowledge of why he rose and how to properly combat a dragon.

Tarang, I fear you may have misunderstood me, I did not mean how can the player selling them justify it, I am not naive, and would not sell a precursor for less then it is worth myself.

I ment how can anet justify making the precursors so rare that value of the item is increasing at a faster rate per day then what the average gamer can possibly make per day.

Goldi, my problem is not with the item being rare, my problem is with the fact that your statement “a goal that everyone can eventually reach” is wrong, when the price of the item increases faster then what most players can earn per day, you earn 10g, the precursor goes up 11g, see the problem?

And yes I realise that I have not been around as long as some of you, and I am not expecting to get the legendary anytime soon, I do however expect to feel like I am making progress toward that goal.

Personally I feel its a shame anet didn’t take a hint from old eq1’s epic weapons, they took a massive amount of patience, dedication and luck to get, but was no dependant on how big your purse was.
