We are sworn together by our blood…
Hello all, I’m on the case still, but want to make a quick statement. If there is any change to ecto salvaging it is not intentional.
I promise you that if we change anything involving ectos, there will be public information on it.
Some may be skeptical if they haven’t interacted with me before, and that’s ok, but as long as I’m working with the economy, information on ecto changes will be public, end of story.
Legit players getting screwed over again, what a suprise. You know it could be fixed by just making it a reward once a day for one character, but no, you’re not doing that for reasons i can’t fathom. Thanks again for screwing over players that actually play and enjoy your game, to be honest this is the first ever time i’ve been dissapointed in you.
Hello everyone, I’ll look into this and get back to you.
The lack of dust on the TP is just one of the signs that the loot system remain completely out of whack in GW2.
Just to take an example experience: While running around the Lyssa temple today, I killed 4 veteran air elementals. I got 1 white hammer for it. Seriously? 3 of them didnt give any loot at all and one give a bloody WHITE item. Its veterans ffs!
Anet need to fix this across the board… But I fear its not going to happen. No, we’ll probably see a new Black Lion chest that has a chance to drop T6 materials for 100 gems a piece instead.
Bah!
Have a friend that yesterday salvaged over 100 rares, with a return of ~50% ectos. This is exactly what everyone else has been reporting.
Looks like ecto rate has gone from 0.9 to 0.5, pretty obvious change.
First thank you for noticing this thread Regina.
But the drop rate is REALLY low compare to a few months ago. I haven’t gotten 3 ectos from salvage for at least 2 months and I salvage at least 2 68+ rares everyday.
Also it’s not just one or two person and many noticed this. It could be some bug? If you don’t mind, please send someone to investigate on that.
Armor level 80 yellow salvaged with Master Salvage Kit
775 Armors
402 Ectoplasm
634 Rune
1120 Common Materials
99 Rare materials
Drop Rate Ectoplasm 51.87
In the past I had 89 % ration on ecto from rare
Dogbite
[BloS] Officer
Sorry if I missed this in the patch notes.
I just salvaged 5000 cof marks converting them into helmets for salvage. I never received more then 1 ecto per hit. I recall usually getting 1-3 per salvage before and have it video documented in my epic world first 20,000 cof mark salvage. Was this just changed today? I checked my records and did receive 1-3 ectos per hit from a mass salvage I did last week.
Edit 5000 cof marks = 166 salvages. You used to get about .9 ectos per salvage using master kits. I got 80~ ectos which is around a .5 per salvage. Which seems to be a 50%~ nerf
My theory so far is that either the lvl of the item (cof is 70) effects the chances or just dungeon bought rares had a nerf where they can only give 1 ecto now while others still can give more. Or that there is truly a 1 ecto per salvage limit with same proc chance reducing the rate from .9 to .5~.

Salvage rates have been corrected!
Despite randoms accusing a conspiracy theory the truth came out and salvage rates were off and were corrected by some of the best staff support I’ve seen in an MMO to date. Salvage rates should be correct now and returned to their .9 rate of ecto with master kits and everyone may salvage once again.
I want to say thank you to the community that was open minded enough to assist in this study and to John Smith for some of the best staff support I’ve seen in an MMO. Although I did have to take a hard hit of 2-4 infractions to deal with the trolls while making my point.
Special thanks to Geotherma who did all of the work and brought his reputation and research to get this problem resolved after the community hurt my feels to much and I had to leave.
Perhaps some gloating at the Stego haters that tried to call me out, and label me a conspiracy theorist or “like all the other ecto posts” specifically Aeonblade.8709.
Thanks everyone for helping to resolve this and although I wish I could have my 8000 cof marks back to resalvage this engagement on the forums was overall quite fun and worth it.
I’d like everyone to take some time and check out the art work of my character I made at the start of my salvage proof video to celebrate:

Imbecile business decision-makers, listen to this:
When we say we are tired of asian bullkitten we mean anime looking characters, exagerated weapons and overly flashy skills. We mean we are tired of all the tropes and conventions found in asian mmorpgs.
We do not mean we don’t want an in-game civilization that is based on real world Asia.
Asian cultures provide some of the most aesthetically (If not the most) interesting architecture, landscapes, clothing… etc.So yeah, get your crap straight.
^This…and I hate using “^This”
Unfortunately GW2 has, so far, done exactly that. Barbie female options, rediculously flashy weapons and armor(for a GW heir), and fighting in even a small group is like being at a disco while on LSD. And the unique human cultural distinctions they had in GW1 are pretty much gone.
There are parts of the game that are very well done, but the overall sugar-coated, circus-feel of GW2 is over-bearing.
I troll because I care

as you now know – you should have made separate ascended backpack and transmuted your jetpack on it.
mystic forge always destroy ingredients and create new item defined in recipe
So far gw2 is in need of a dungeon that can reward us. There is nothing more sad than completing a dungeon and ending with blues and green. I really hope we can have items that are specific to certain bosses and unique.
Fractals used to be that. Then they nerfed it.
For the longest time I didn’t want to give into conspiracy theories but…
it seems right now that Arenanet wants us to make gold by selling gems.
If Arenanet allows you to make gold too easy in game, then they don’t make much money.

This is ridiculous. The moment you removed Lyssa’s “exploit”, crystalline dust went from 25 silvers to 28 silvers, while incandescent dust went up from 1.5 silvers to 1.9 silvers in just one day. This terrible lootless game. And the best part is you guys changed the loot in CS to give… NOTHING. OMG. Why do you spawn 999 spiderlings in melandru that gives NOTHING???
And your excuse?
There were an excessive number of bots at that location on several servers, so the spawns during the event (only) had their loot reduced. No changes were made to any creature outside the event, including wraiths in other locations. We tried to find the simplest, safest change possible. I hope that answers the question, but I really don’t want to get into a debate about “What is farming?” or “Does farming hurt the economy?” or “Economy? It’s a game, who cares?”
- Jeffrey Vaughn
Yeah it hurts the economy. When NO one goes there to “farm”, the price in mats tend to increase! The best part is, it took you a few moments to completely wipe out the entire loot drops in Lyssa, but any adjustments in Orr?
Erm…. Nope! And quite frankly, I don’t understand why you guys think this is a good policy. You nerfed the farm areas repeatedly, and yet you think to give 200% mf on southsun cove, which everyone goes there now. Is this another debate on economy something?
There has been repeated cries about loot drops, so I’ll stop here. I think I’m not buying any expansions when it comes out, because it’s going to be the same “DR” system.
I think I’m going to wait a half hour, try again and if it still doesn’t work request a refund.
Not a good first impression.
Don’t get me wrong Living story is great and all, but it seems that a lot of the game seems half done.
-Useless and Debug icons on environmental items.
-Tonics w/o brawler skills.
-Underpowered skills.
-Unfinished/Inaccessible areas. (why do we go Citadel to Diessa from the main gate but leave through the door to haunted nolani, and where is the main gate in Diessa?!?)
-Game crashes and disconnects.(doesn’t happen often, but many other games have better records.)
-Counterintuitive party window(Why do we need a join and invite?)
-Buggy invite system(right click report only bug)
-Missing Bonus games( bar brawl, polymock, moa racing)
-animation bugs(moving while frozen)
-underwater combat
-Ebonhawk organ still buggy.
-Long term event rewards. (reward merchants, events that change the state for two minutes before it reverses)
-bandaid fixes on many issues. (Guild yaks)
-Zhaitan…
I probably can think of many more, but this is just off the top of my head. I even left out several that where more suggestions than polish. I’m sure many reading this can think of more.
I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that the game doesn’t seem very polished. So, can we have one or two of these monthly updates be less on new content and more getting everything working.
Let’s shine this game till I can see my refection in every yak’s..eerr nevermind… but you get the idea. ^_^
Well my experience is complete opposite. But somehow I just cannot believe all you “lucky” people with no magic find getting exotics all day all night.
Their called Anet Trolls. They stick around and post on the forums and say how good the games doing and how great the drops are and how good the kitten is but they are just talking kitten, they know everyone is pised off, they just don’t want everyone to leave so they didn’t waste all their money on gems so they can eventually turn it into gold and make a huge profit.
I would never buy gems from these idiots, I would much rather pay a modest sub fee and be able to run a hard dungeon and be rewarded for it, is that so hard to ask? God, ESO, where are you when we need you???
Välkyri – 80 Warrior
JQ[Lulz] – Kill fur Thrillz…
I did melandru today (starting from defending the landing site phase), got 24 pieces of loot (blues, greens) and 6 bags. Also some tier 5 mats. Not that much worse than what you get from a dungeon and this takes far less time. I don’t consider it to be bad loot.
Guild Wars 1 players were familiar with the cash shop for items that don’t affect power or pvp, and when Guild Wars 2 added the diamond/gold trade, most Guild Wars 1 players were smart enough to see the direction that Guild Wars 2 was going to take, which is removing pretty much all sources of easy income so most people will just buy diamonds and switch them to gold. At the moment that Anet started slowly decreasing the drop rate on good items, most players from Guild Wars 1 left, including myself. So, in short, Anet wants you to spend money to get fake money, to increase your satisfaction in a fake game. Hope that answers your question.
If you make normal farming doable! I mean what in the world, after union got closed, I went for CS mining run and 9/10 mobs that I have to kill don’t even drop anything. I’m like ok maybe it’s unusual bad luck.
I go back to do melandru (first time in over a month) and guess what, loot still barely drops. I’m talking ANY loot, no porous bones, no bags, no claws. Just XP?
This game is so unrewarding now it’s not even funny. What am I supposed to do? Go southsun only? What happened to playing how you want? Dungeons are a time sink and the reward is not worth the trouble – that is of course ignoring Cof p1.
I’m really wondering now.. legimately. This is not a rant. What I wanna know is what does anet want the players to do now that they’re removing all sources of solid income and pushing drop rates to the limits?
Is something like Guild Calendar going to be added to the game? I would like to see an option like that in the “G” panel, near Guild Missions, Root, Ranks etc.
I think that something like that is very important for guilds, and helps to plan, and organize every ingame action.
In the ranks should appear an option then, who allows some people to modify this calendar, and other to just allow people sign up for any events.
Guild mates would create there events like PvP, WvWvW, Dungeons, Fractals, RolePlay, Guild Missions and other available content.
Look at that from this perspective- when ull have organized guilds in ur game, then people will know precisely the game. Supporting guilds is really important thing in the MMORPG’S, cause without a guilds u havent got a good game at all. When people dont have tools to make it good organized, then some of people login, and just dont know whats going on in the next hours, or just this day, or day after, or this week
Guilds often learn new players, and helps them in the new world.
Ofc some guilds creates their own calendars, forums and do it there (like mine), and it partly works… But i mean, when game has a thing like this tool (ingame), then it works few times better
RolePlay/PvP/Raid
(edited by Xar.1387)
If I’m going to pay money for this game and support them by buying gems I feel I get the right to demand that content be fixed. If they’re selling it and attempting to promote it (like there were when missions were introduced) I expect them to actually be fully working, fair and fun content. This is none of those.
Don’t demand stuff. It makes you look petulant and weakens your argument. People will take you less seriously.
I’m not saying you don’t have a legit grievance, I haven’t tried a guild puzzle yet, but suggesting will get you a lot more traction than demanding.
I’m pretty sure that Anet is attempting to discourage farming because they want us to buy our gold with gems. All these nerfs of farming areas has convinced me of that.
All that’s going to do is make players look elsewhere for another MMO that dos’nt force them to use real $$$$ to get what one can obtain by farming in any other MMO.
Completely agree with Vol. Anet, if you don’t want to farmers block events (or are you fighting against bots? if yes, this is wrong way how to do it), just make ALL zones rewarding loot not only by level of the mobs but also by level of players. For example: Ridgeback scale lvl 20: 30% chance on drop T2 mat, 5% chance drop Tx mat, x=varies according to player level.
Even though it is not true, your game seems to be dead for all new players visiting midlevel zones.
If you don’t wanna players to farm easy low level mobs, well… make high level players weaker. Your current scaling down is not enough
They need to just bite the bullet already and make completing events in zones 30+ offer end game rewards like rares and exotics especially with the problems of a nerfed glob system they have going, and then they won’t have problems like people bumrushing events that have a bug and actually offer rewards.
Offering rewards to the rest of the world thru events will also prevent people from all gathering in one zone which hasn’t stopped because of LS and how that works so the world is continuously empty in many places.
It would be a win alround. I’m not sure who thinks it’s a good idea to keep going the way it’s going but they’re going to continue to lose players as people get hit by DR one by one.
I kinda agreed with Vol, tough Mirta has a strong poin too.
Anyway, GW2 is the most unrewarding mmo ever, to the point that 99% of the loots are just little more than junk.
tldr at bottom
Arenanet,
I liked this game
I’ve been playing this game since release and for the longest time I’ve been your supporter of this fine game. I’ve played most of the content in this game (with exception of sPvP) over 2000 hours and have spent close to $1000 in gems to show my appreciation. I can tell you that this game has been well worth my money and time.
But the changes you have made in the past 5 months have made me very disappointed. I want to play this game for years, but you are making it harder for me to continue playing this game and enjoying it. It’s no coincidence that I have not spent a single $ since December on gems.
I’m sure it is your objective to improve this game so much that people will want to keep playing but I feel you making misguided changes in regards to farming.
Content is not the issue
I have no gripes about the content of the game. Living Story is a fantastic idea and you are implementing it well. I’m not particular into dungeons, but I find that you provide a wide variety of atmospheres and difficulties to satisfy that crowd. WvW of course is loved/hated, but most of my memories in game have come from exciting WvW matches. I’m confident that will improve.
But I’m very disappointed in the decisions to make content less rewarding each month. Constant nerfs to events that are efficient for the playerbase to farm are changed to make it less rewarding. First you nerfed plinx, which was a very popular karma chain but you changed the cooldown time significantly to the point that very few people do it now. Then came the shelt/pen nerfs – through the veteran/champion introductions and then recently the veteran/champion buffs plus loot-less spiderlings (honestly, who wants to beat on a spider for 2 minutes and get not even 1 copper or a porous bone?). Then came the grub farming event at the shores, which probably didn’t even need a nerf since if it got too popular, mobs would die too fast and no one would get any loot!
And now once again, the newest farming point, Lyssa, has been nerfed to the ground. Wraiths apparently don’t drop anything anymore. It’s not a coincidence that the single best reason for this farm was t6 dust came from Wraiths – and they got nerfed.
MMOs and farming go together. You cannot have an MMO that has zero farming. Farming is a PLAYER choice. People who choose to farm are doing content which is most efficient for them. Farming certain events rewards you with the most gold per hour you invest in game. No one will want to do an event that is not rewarding enough. Players will ALWAYS look for the most efficient place to get rewarded. Just look at two of those events that I mentioned. Grub farming and Lyssa farm were both there since release, available to farm. There were no content changes at all that made it profitable to do in the past few months. The only reason why we learned about these events was because players sought out the next best event to farm. After shelt/pen was nerfed to the ground, people on Sea of Sorrows started to notice that grubs was a great farm. So I spread the news to Yaks Bend and it started to gain traction. When the grubs got nerfed, I heard that Lyssa was the best place to farm, so I went there. And I’m confident that now that Lyssa farm is gone, all these people will go to Southsun to farm until it’s gone. After that, someone is going to find the next best place, whether that is in Malchor or FSG.
So Anet, your never-ending battle against people who want to be efficient and farm is a lost cause. You can keep nerfing these events to the ground until you end up with a bunch of events in end-game zones that are not rewarding anymore. Suddenly, new players will look around them at seasoned players and want to get all their shiny weapons and armor. But when they try and do events, they wonder how in the world can they afford that stuff? When loot drops are scarce?

Arenanet, I really want to give this game a few more years, and I will say now that of course I will not quit. But at this rate I cannot enjoy logging in and doing events that are not rewarding. MMOs are supposed to be FUN, yes. But FUN can mean different things to people. And I’m very confident that people find being rewarded FUN. So here is my suggestion in order for you to keep that playerbase that ENJOYS farming and ENJOYS being rewarded for their time
1.) Stop nerfing events – I don’t know what your motives are for nerfing them – perhaps to get players to do other content? Perhaps to encourage people to be less wealthy in-game and get encouraged to spend on the shop? I don’t know, but it’s a losing cause since it’s a natural thing for MMOs.
2.) Make the whole map rewarding. There is a reason why the earlier zones are dead. They are not rewarding! If it were only possible to make 100% of the drops in those zones equal to your level then people would play there! I’d play there!
3.) Make events more rewarding loot-wise – If we players had knowledge of several events across the map that were rewarding to farm, I’m sure many would do it. I’d do it. There comes a point where one event gets too saturated with players that it isn’t rewarding anymore.
4.) Get rid of those silly mobs that don’t drop loot. I don’t know whose idea it was to change the loot table of spiderlings to 0, but it was a dumb move. You spend a minute beating on a veteran, maybe 2 on a champ spider, only to have 5 little spiderlings come out and pull you across the ground. And you try and dodge and fight them off and end up with zero loot? That is NOT fun!
In closing, Arenanet, please do the smart thing and stop making things less rewarding in this game. You have a great game that justifies the sales but you are just souring on those players who have been with you since August.
tldr: Stop nerfing farming since it’s a player choice, farmers will just find the next best thing. Next thing you know, all events are nerfed to the ground and nothing end-game wise will be rewarding.
