Sorrows Furnace
Sorrows Furnace
Why stop there, why not make every character lvl 80, all traits unlocked, all equipment acquired copied, when you have it on another character? Why not give the gold reward for dungeons automatically every day once you have proven that you can finish all paths? Why not put the same amount of resources you farmed into every other characters bags?
It is part of the game to complete maps. If you remove every content from the game another character of yours has already done, then there would be a lot less to do, less play time, less active accounts. That´s how MMORPG work and for good reason, no dev can keep up with players when it comes to content consumption. If you feel the time is wasted, well, then stick to your one character. I have never seen someone play through a “normal” game, then restart it and demand the content already done should be removed, just skip to the credits please.
but meh when i have 3-10% on my other toons it doesn’t feel as good.
This is the problem with ‘Power’ levelling.
People who ignore map completion as a way of levelling and go to EotM or wherever else have made rods for their own backs.
You can easily get 25% – 40% map completion if you’d levelled via map completing instead of the popular, ‘short term quick fixes’ to levelling.
You don’t need to do all map exploration again, just run with your other toons to get some key WPs and done.
Map exploration is character bound for a few reasons:
- Leveling new toons
- For the same reward opportunities with new characters
- Crafting extra legendaries
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
It’s a good one. LOTRO also has very good community.
I take it you never played GW1. What you described is exactly how GW2 works. If you are trying to play group PvE (aka dungeons), no one takes anyone that doesn’t play meta.
No one. No one? Sorry, that’s wrong. I’ve gone along more than a few times with groups wanting a fifth member, and the only thing they asked is I not use Point Blank Shot irresponsibly, and to keep my ears open if they ask me to do something. (Like run through rather than engage things.)
In GW1? You can play whatever you wanted. Even if you didn’t find a party to play with you (which wasn’t much of an issue, considering how the GW1 dungeon community was far less based on speed runs than the GW2 dungeon community), you could simply play with your heroes and beat whatever content you were against. There’s not a single ounce of truth in saying “Either you played the going meta-build or you basically didn’t play” regarding GW1. Regarding GW2, though…
. . . and again, not the case demonstrably. My monk character was accepted a lot more often than my ranger to doing EOTN dungeons, outside guild play. Nobody wanted my warrior character, at all. (“We already have enough.”)
There is an ounce of truth in “either you played the meta builds for your class or basically didn’t play”. It’s far from being universal, because then you have to add “if you’re doing Heroes’ Ascent”.
And then, of course, there’s the builds more or less specifically for dealing with Slavers’ Exile due to how crazy that place was built.
Morning all,
In a few hours give or take (installing GW2 as I write this) I’ll be one of a few newbies in game. I’m a veteran of WoW raiding being a healer and dps when needed. Just a question into which profession would be best to learn the game on for currently the elementalist and Guardian professions both seem appealing to myself any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Don’t rush to level. Just explore the world. Guardian is a good first choice because you can just button smash your way to victory without really thinking.
lvl too fast people complains…. level too hard and too slow also people complains…. i wonder how people measure the word “too”….
Archeage = Farmville with PK
The difference to TP flipping and your real world analogy is that in game, anybody has the ability to TP flip or undermine a TP flipper.
If you don’t want to buy your bread at 25 euros, put a bid in for less. If you don’t want to buy an item at an extortionate rate, don’t. Just be patient.
Here is some information on ArenaNet betas/stress tests that many may find informative (now, and perhaps regarding future Closed and Open Beta Tests/Events/Stress Tests).

Good luck.

Read the whole blog post.
More specifically this part:
The upcoming closed beta will help us test the stability of our new PvE outpost-event content structure.
It is not a bug-finding beta but mainly a stability one.
It also seems rather clear that the area that are accessible is rather small, so 3*2 hours should be plenty of time to run through all or at least most of it several times.
Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
/sigh
Why is everyone so ready to take offense. If you worked for entire days of playtime grinding and farming for one, that was your decision. This is the first closed beta. Those are typically limited in number and time. If you didn’t know that and how long it was is important to you, you should have asked first about typical first beta time lengths. It’s not necessary either to be offended for other people. Let them be offended on their own.
ANet may give it to you.
I do not agree i just test again the mace, it’s way too slow.
the #1 “faithful strike” you have a 1 second attack for few heal
the #2 this symbol have 1sec 1/4 of cast, so for the pvp mcm they have to take all the hit of the symbol to approach the damage of the sword, i mean, i like the symbol in general but this one and the hammer one are in slow motion or what ? why the GS symbol is 1/4sec and mace/hammer is 1sec+1/4sec that’s boring!!
the #3 this is the only counter of the guard and it is a failed counter, look at the other’s counter of the war/ranger or the mesmer. With a war/ranger, you can run blocking everything from the ranged and a nice counter when you’re in melee, with a mesmer you block only once BUT it is a range counter so that makes sense.
Each weapon should have a place in some mode, not be good in all modes. Mace isn’t good for WvW or in a Medi build, but it’s good in PvE or as a Bunker in sPvP. With the new trait it will be the best choice in PvE and still decent with a bunker. Mace doesn’t need an increase attack speed. If sPvP was the only game mode, then yes I would agree, but that’s not the case.
But i get your point that everything except damage is pretty useless
No my point is that the strength of the guardian is his active defense, not his tanking/healing capability.
So… lets see, for all the weapon sets (despite the title of the thread being melee)
VoJ: now does more burning damage, aoe, based on staying close,
VoR, leap, gap closer.
VoC: destroys projectiles, great for when getting kited,
Traits:
Piercing light, bleed for traps, which can obviously used well in melee builds, despite weapon,
Zealots Aggression, free 10% damage to crippled enemies, count cripple from any source
Soaring Devestation: an attack AND IMMOB on VoR.
Defenders dogma: instant VoJ passive on block, good for focus and mace
Bulwark: increase to VoC, bigger range and duration, helps more with dealing with kiting,
Dulled Senses: cripple on knockback, hammer/shield both have knockbacks, and also the honor trait protective reviver. wondering if this works for wards as well, though i believe those are only knockdowns, if so, would like seeing the trait buffed to any actual stuns, knockdowns and knockbacks
Pure of sight: extra damage at range, includes scepter and staff, torch throw, if they ever fix it sword #3….
Hunters fort: free prot on virtue activation, works for any weapon.
Big game hunter: vuln when attacking Voj’ed enemies, GREAT for multi hit weapons such as GS, scepter, sword, and torch, but also allows for free vuln regardless.
So based on the OP saying that the trait line is focused around traps and LB, there is ONE trap trait (which honestly i wish had some more substance to it), and a total of TWO Longbow specific traits in the DH line, Hunter’s determination, and heavy light, which were not included in the list above. EVERY other trait than those 3 can be used with other weapons, or actually help a set of weapons (Pure of sight for ranged, and big game hunter for mutli-hit attacks for more specific examples.)
Honestly, after being gone from the game for a while, and going through the forums about these changes, I really feel like so much of the guardian community doesnt even LOOK at what we have and what we are getting together in a bigger picture. Everyone except a select few look at the specialization and see nothing but Longbow and traps, and doesn’t even seem to look and see what could be done using different combinations.

So the player who doesn’t have a lot of time to walk across the map and therefore doesn’t have the time to farm the necessary fuel items is penalized?
And if you pay for the item with gold, then it’s a pointless change and it should just stay as pay coin.
And I don’t want to have to make sure I play in all areas of the world or on all of my characters just to ensure that I can map on any of my characters from anywhere to anywhere. I want to play where I want with who I want and be able to earn whatever it is I need to travel anywhere. And have what I earn for travel be usable on any of my characters. And I have one of each race.
I waypoint often on my Asuran elementalist (and I only have the one elementalist). She mostly does world boss events these days and they aren’t close to each other. So if there were racial waypoint stuff, she’d always be low if not out. And there’s typically time before some of the bosses to go off and do other things, like farm waypoint stuff and they better drop at a high rate, you have remembered that drops are RNG, right? She’d likely be able to farm enough to fund her own personal waypointing.
But I haven’t been doing world boss stuff and I’m running my Human warrior around for map completion. But what if someone really needs an elementalist for something and I volunteer. But the fee to waypoint to where they need me is more than what I’ve got in waypoint materials. I now have to tell who I volunteered to help that I have to either farm those materals or walk to where they need me. So it’s going to be a while. That’s not good for the community at all. I can’t help with my main because I’ve been playing an alt more often.
It may also create less helping out others on the fly because you don’t want to end up with too few of the waypoint items for a specific character in case you really need them. Death for instance because that happens to the best of us. Or for things we want to do. Like world boss trains or gathering mats across the world, etc.
I vote no for changing what is used to waypoint. Coin is just fine. Everyone earns it. It’s usable for all characters going anywhere from anywhere. And is a much needed gold sink.
About 2 years back on Aurora Glade I used to see a guardian called Tucking Fypo. Stays in my thoughts up till today
Aurora Glade ~ Army of Forgotten Souls miniguild [AoFS]
http://umabbas.net/
I honestly love the Orr maps, for the most part. Why? NO HEARTS! They take so much less time to complete because of that, especially once you have run through the zones a few times. The only things I hate are the labyrinth skill point in Cursed Shore, the (often) bugged Melandru statue skill point outside of the Grenth temple, and those two skill points in Malchor’s Leap that are usually guarded by champions.
Can they replace them with “skillful” utilities now? If it’s useless everywhere why is it there in the first place?
The Dhuumfire thread
Wow… This is pathetic on both parts, honestly. Some of us such as myself like to go to EOTM to wind down after we’ve spent the entire day scouting, roaming and doing all the thankless jobs for our server. Then we find that there are people trolling on every side in Edge and we can’t even get a decent farm there? Fun…
How about people just let it go and accept the fact that Edge is not and never will be a real WvW map and PvE’rs like to farm there. So what if one guild controls all sides of the map a handfull of times a day? Any other times it’s total chaos and there are completely new commanders or very seasoned ones leading a massive train of PUGs.
I will just never understand why people get so infuriated over karma trains… If it were in the borderlands or EBG I might understand but this is freaking Edge, it doesn’t matter. I can’t say I’d support [EotM] for being rude to others but I’ve also seen them be polite. They’re a massive guild with very few requirements, of course there will be some a_sholes in it. You can’t blame the entire guild for a few bad seeds.
Anyway I think the people who just want to troll [EotM] are no better than the ones who are bullying others for defending… If I happen to catch anyone trying to troll, I’ll just troll them… And it’ll be troll on top of troll on top of troll because why not. If that’s how you’re going to combat things…

Grind the Silverwastes for a chance at getting 1000g drops
Grind fractals for a chance at the fractal tonic
Grind fractals for a chance at the fractal weapon skinsGrind the Silverwastes for a chance at getting into the beta
So fed up of this.
Think this has come up a few times already, but here’s my take: grind – mandatory, needed for progress (level grinding, gear grinding etc). Farming – optional, needed to gain items not necessary for progression (skins, tonic etc.).
So you’re farming not grinding.
Excelsior!
So, recently Blatoy.7682 and I have been developing a small web game called “Escape from Rata Sum” and we finally decided to share it. It was really fun to make, and we hope you enjoy it!
The concept is quite simple:
“Recently, Rata Sum has become quite a dangerous place. More and more riots are taking place in front of Moto’s box because of Bookahs coming from all over Tyria. The city is now hostile: you need to escape from Rata Sum.”
Here is a link to it:
http://orikaru.net/ratascape
Notes:
- Controls: Arrow keys.
- Remember that you can accelerate, slow down and hold the “jump” key to jump higher.
- Sorry if there are any lags (should work well for Firefox and Chrome at least).
- Some stuff won’t work on mobile, although you should be see what the game is about, at least.
- Try to get the highest possible score, and share it with us
.
Good luck, and have fun!
P.S. : Any feedback or suggestions would be really appreciated.
Edit 1: Also, thanks to Ealandur.1876 for helping us testing the game.
Edit 2: Added more space before the first cube of the falling phase. (thanks to Rayala.6138 for feedback)

Event-based influence should properly go to the guild you are repping during the event; it even scales up with more people. Attendance influence is based on which toon you are repping at logon.
But as Merchant of Shadows suggests, it’s easy enough to buy influence. A guild stash (50 slots) costs 2,500 influence, which can be bought for only 5g — still a bargain.
Seems like some of the NPCs in Wayfarer Foothills are non responsive.
In particular the Sons of Svanir who had pre-defined animations (sitting, lying down, etc.)
Do NOT attack back at first, in fact, they back pedal away from you with no combat at all, then start fighting a few seconds later.
I have never even seen a non-player backpedal before, it seems to be completely new tech/AI behavior.
Perhaps to be utilized in new AI function to move out of AoE or dodge attacks?! (that would be fantastic)
I will provide video proof if it is needed, easy to replicate though. But if asked, I shall make a quick clip.

My point about the karma vendors really should have been noting how it seems they are abandoning this model, after all where in Dry Top or Silver Wastes can you buy any new looking armor for karma…or any armor for that matter?

The Trilogy is there and Eye of the North is stand alone. You can also pick up the mission pack from there. Far as I know that’s the cheapest way to get them all.
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
I don’t even want a refund on the coin. It was only 600 Gems and I bought them with gold anyway. If they brought back SAB and reintroduced the coin it would probably be more than 600 gems, so I’m content with what I’ve got, even though it’s technically nothing.
For those still confused why anger of the minis is justified, it is because the released the minis just before the anniversary of the original release of SAB. This isn’t a matter of releasing the minis at a time the content wouldn’t be expected to appear. Nor is it a matter of releasing the minis for content there has never even been information about. They know full well that the community associates April Fools with SAB first and random April Fools jokes second, especially the SAB fanatics. Releasing the minis just before April Fools, without any information one way or another, is like releasing Halloween minis a couple days early or Wintersday minis a couple days early, then not doing the corresponding event.
It is a betrayal and devastating. They really should have put out a statement. “We are not bringing back SAB for April 1st. We know how much it means to you, though. So in appreciation of your support, here are the SAB minis. We are thinking about it, we do remember, and we do have plans for SAB in the future. Just not right now.”
People would probably still have Rioted in Rata Sum, but not a single person would have felt betrayed when SAB didn’t show up just like they said it wouldn’t. People would have been happy for the minis and maybe accepted that ANet is thinking about them. The lack of anything, at all, is what upsets everyone. No statement, no explanation, no sympathy. They’re cold and hurtful and makes it look like a cash grab to dupe the believers.

In the description itself, it says something about if you aren’t local, you can fill it out anyway, in case they ever can use people who aren’t local, so I did. Can’t hurt.
I hope this can help you
Guide for WvW map completion
Method 1: (only for active servers)
actively follow the commander around the map as they take things
Method 2: (any server)
transfer to an active server and follow method 1
Method 3: (most popular method for lower tier servers)
Run to objectives on reset night to get exploration quickly (before your server loses things). WvW matchup resets 1 hour and ~5 minutes after the daily reset on Friday night (currently 5:05 PM PST for NA servers)
When the matchup resets, your server has a claim over all the keeps and towers in their Borderland and the keep and 4 towers for your corner in Eternal Battlegrounds.
When reset occurs go to your BL and run like crazy (bring swiftness!) to the 2 southernmost keeps (Bay and Hills) get all the POIs and vistas there. Then move north from them visiting towers, camps, and the garrison. You should have the 3 keeps and all the towers and camps north of Bay/Hills (dont worry if it takes more than 1 week). If your server still has stuff in EB, then go there and pick up your keep, 4 towers and the 2 camps on your side (will likely need more than one week for this and BL). to get the stuff in the south, you have to wait until your color is NOT the same as the BL (go to BLs that are “not your server name borderlands”)(unless you are really fast and can get to that southernmost tower before the enemy gets it). You will need 4 friends. You can activate the commander NPC (seigerazor/siegecrusher) if he is there. He will help you take the tower closest to your spawn. You can also take the 2 camps nearest to your spawn and get the south skill point/vistas.
Stonemist Castle will probably be your biggest issue if your world never takes it. The best way i can see to do it is to follow an enemy zerg into it (be careful they will see you as an easy target). Stealth is your best friend (if youre a mes or thief just equip your stealths and carefully fun around the perimiter picking up the POIs, otherwise bring a freind who can stealth you). You have to follow your enemy through the inner gate as well in order to get the skill point (this should be done after most of them leave).
Tips:
*Be patient, this is a PvP map and it might take some time to do if your server has 0 presence
*Always avoid enemies when you can. Anyone that sees you will tell their 50 “freinds” in map chat and generally try to engage you
*Stealth, speed boosts, and even invulnerability skills are very helpful
*non-peak times can also be helpful if you are against servers where people actually get some sleep
*If you mention what server you are on, you might find someone here that will help you as well
Good Luck with your exploration.
Gates Of Madness
Jewelcrafting to 500!
invisible bag first followed by crafting bag, equipment box and oiled leather pack.
crafting bag takes mats, oiled pack takes junk, and equipment box takes weapons/armor (probably want more than one of these). its not perfect, but might just do what you are wanting. i think invis bags can be made to ignore the compact function (although im not sure if compact will still throw stuff in there if its first). havent experimented with it. Also, this solution doesnt account for things like bandit crests or living story stuff or even champ bags, but it might be your best option

Jewelcrafting to 500!
Apologize if has been suggested. A brief Google search didn’t show anything.
Right now we have the ability to toggle different types of chat filters on or off in different chat tabs. Recentlyish the expanded Combat chat options were added to filter on/off damage and healing from various sources. I’d like to see a similarly expanded tab for ‘Game Messages’.
[ ] Friend alerts
[ ] Loot messages
[ ] Story messages
[ ] Exp gain (Unless it’s located elsewhere)
[ ] Karma gain ( ^ )
Perhaps others? I’m not sure off hand what else is in that chat filter.
The reason for this is that with Game Messages on, the chat tab gets horrendously spammed when looting or crafting. With it off there’s no way to see when friends log on/off without checking the social panel constantly.
